Cursor events in text frame

hi, i am new to pluigin concept.
i am creating one tracking plugin,for that i need where ever cusor goes the character style has to applied.
pls tell how to make cursor events in Indesign Text frame.

You were looking for the wrong text. Look just for the initial number, ^\d+, nothing else. Then use the loop counter to change the numbers, as in this code:
app.findGrepPreferences = null;
app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = '^\\d+'
numbers = app.selection[0].parentStory.findGrep();
for (i = numbers.length-1; i >= 0; i--) {
    numbers[i].contents = String(i+1)
Select the frame that holds your text and run the script.

  • Multiple selected text frame to table

    I am looking for a script that will allow me to select multiple text frames at one time and have the contents in those text frames converted to tables.
    What I have to do now is place the cursor in one text frame, select all, select menu item "convert to table", the defalt dialog appears and I click ok.
    I have ten text frames on a page (for example). The manual process means I have to do the text to table 10 times per page.
    So, I would like a script that will allow me to select all 10 text frames and convert the content of each frame to a table.
    Any suggestions are appreciated.

    This should do it:
    if (app.documents.length > 0 && app.selection.length > 0)
      for (i = 0; i < app.selection.length; i++)
        try {app.selection[i].texts[0].convertToTable ("\t", "\r")}
          catch (_) {}

    Hi,
    Set selection to this textFrame.insertionPoints - any of them, lets say the first one.
    app.selection = mTextFrame.insertionPoints[0];

  • How to trap the event before unlock of locked text frames

    How to trap the event before the message "You must check out the contents of this frame in order to make changes. Check out now?" for locked text frames?
    I have tried installing the service Responder kUserEditTextCmdResponder
    The responder event is fired after the unlock of text frame in this case.
    I was trying the service kEditCmdPreProcessService, but I could not find the companion interface for this service.
    How to find the companion interface?

    The answer to why i need the event executed if nothing has changed is that in my application the text ring will hold some predefined settings for some other controls. If the user selects one of the predefined settings from the text ring a bunch of other controls will take predefined values. These values in the other controls can now be altered by the user. If the user now wants to re-apply the same set of pre-defined settings as last time it should be as simple as selecting the pre-defined settings from the text ring. If now the same value is selected from the text ring, no event will be executed.
    What you should do instead is change the value of the ring to a "special" value (e.g. using a local variable) whenever one of the other settings change, indicating that the settings have been modified. It seems wrong to show an inconsistent value in the ring, right?
    Now, whenever you change it back to one of the default settings, is IS a value changed event and there is no problem. .

  • How to select a text frame that has been "Sent to Back"?

    Hi Framers,
    In FM 7.2 (all patches up to date, running on Windows XP Pro), I added a note inside a text frame next to an anchored frame holding an image. I nudged the text frame close to the image but it blocked out a tiny portion of the image. So I selected the text frame and from the Graphics menu clicked Send to Back.  Solved that problem, of course. Now I want to change the wording in the note but can't do it because the entire text frame has been sent to back -- how can I select it to Bring to Front so I can edit its contents???
    This MUST be something totally obvious, right?  Can I plead pre-holiday brain freeze?
    TIA,
    Gay

    Hello again, Sheila ;~)
    I selected all and moved my cursor all around the page (around various pages, actually, since Ctrl+A selects the entire chapter), and I see what you mean by the color of the arrow's head changing between black and white. Is it significant that the ONLY time it's black is when I'm outside the frame of the page itself? (That is, in the white, non-editable space around the actual frame borders on the page.) Clicking anywhere, whether inside or outside the active area, deselects everything.
    HOLD THE PRESSES!  Even though I *knew* I hadn't grouped my text frame with anything else, after reading your suggestion, I selected the page frame to make sure I hadn't somehow grouped it with my text frame: I hadn't -- but then, on a hunch, I sent IT (the page frame) to the back -- now I can select the text frame!
    I'm marking your response as answering my question and I'm also going to try to mark Peter's the same way, because each of you in your own way, helped me resolve this problem.
    Thank you both and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!  (Gee, and I didn't get either of you anything... maybe next year  ;~))
    Gratefully,
    Gay
    Hi, Gay:
    The "I-Beam" pointer tool is called the Smart Pointer, because it changes to an I-beam when it's over text, and to the Graphics Pointer tool when over a graphic, or part of a graphic, or when you press Ctrl. It's easy to select the main text frame when you Ctrl+click on its interior text area inadvertently, when you're trying to select an anchored frame edge, or when you use Ctrl+A to select all. It's frustrating to have some of these unintended events happen when you're not expecting them. Always work with View > Borders ON, to display the edges of objects and reduce confusion, and always watch where you click. You can zoom iin to large magnification to see things better.

  • Some pages use master text frame, others don't. Fix?

    It turns out in my document, some of my pages have a master text frame and others don't. Many don't. It must be the way I created the frames, accidentally creating independent frames. Is there a fool proof way not to accieentally create independent frames and is there a good way to make sure all these pages with independent frames are turned back into master text frames?
    What I can do is delete the independent frame, then link the previous frame to the inside of the master text frame (I think I used to drop the link on a ruler too often and that creates an independent frame that is in most cases indistinguishable from a master text frame). This is tedious to do for the entire document. Is there an easier way?

    It sounds like you understand what happened. Clicking the place gun cusror on any type of guide will ignore your master frames. Overriding a master text frame before placing the text and Shift-clicking in the overridden frame will also ignore the master frames on subsequent pages.
    The bes thing you can do is keep your eyse open to watch the shape of the cursor. If ID is going to use an existing frame the cursor will be surrounded by parentheses and a new frame will use a cursor with a square upper left corner. You should also develop the habit of clicking in empty areas away from guides if you are using existing frames -- you don't need to click at the top of these frames.
    It's also possible that you did everything correctly and you are working in a facing pages file and at some point added or deleted a single page somewhere other than the end. That would cause all following pages to switch sides and master objects would be reapplied behind any overridden frames.
    There is no easy way to deal with extra frames. If they are not causing a problem you may be able to simply ignore them.

  • Set top and bottom inset spacing values in Text Frame Options via jsx script

    I am looking for a way to set the top and bottom inset spacing values only to 2 points in Text Frame Options via a .jsx scrpt.
    For years, I have used a script that sets Preferences, such as:
    with(app.storyPreferences){
        opticalMarginAlignment = false;
        opticalMarginSize = 12;                // pts
    I would like to add the code to this same script that would make Top = 0p2 and Bottom 0p2 but leave Left and Right as 0p0.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Here is the full .jsx file that we now use to set preferences.

  • Text Frame Options

    Hi, I am using CS6 in Saudi-Arabia. When I put a new text frame with more than one column on a page, the cursor automatically jumps to the right column. In English texts I can't get it to start on the top of the left column. Who can help?

    Are using indesgn ME?, try to draw text frame with Type Tool (T) and not ME Type Tool, and make sure the language is english on control panel.

  • Double-click to enter a text frame - selecting text unresponsive

    Ok.
    So frustrating...I haven't been able to find a solution to this anywhere online.
    Let's say I've got an InDesign document open, and have my selection tool (V).
    I double click on a text frame (that is full of text), see that there is now a cursor inserted in the text frame, so I go to swipe or double-click to select/highlight some text, and NOTHING HAPPENS (it is unresponsive).
    I wait a second, and then I can select text.
    But this was not an issue in CS6 on the Mac I used to use for almost 2 years.
    I could double click on a text frame and quickly swipe text to select, it was very fast.  This second-long delay in responsiveness trips me up every time, disrupts my flow and is really, really annoying when I am selecting and editing different text boxes hundreds of times all day long.  I am using ID CC on a Windows machine now, but the CPU is super fast (16 GB ram, i7 processor) and should not be having any lag issues in InDesign.
    Does anyone else have this problem?  Is there something in the InDesign preferences that I can change, or is this a bug?

    de_fault, please send a complaint to Adobe otherwise they won't fix it:
    Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form
    Problem description: When switching from the Selection tool to the Text tool (by double-clicking in a text box) there is a 1-2 second delay before you can select text.
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. Make a text box and fill with text
    2. Select the Selection tool (V)
    3. Double-click in the text box so that you see a cursor
    4. Immediately try to select text
    Results:  You have to wait 1-2 seconds before you can select text.
    Expected results:  There should not be a delay.  There was no delay in previous versions.

  • What is the best way to import a graphic? & How do I create a text frame for a figure caption?

    Hello all! I've been working from the FM book for almost 2 hrs trying to figure this out, so now I need your help. I am almost to this point:
    Problem I: Importing a graphic
    First of all, which is the best way?
    -Insert an anchor frame and then import the graphic into the frame OR
    -Just insert the graphic and get the anchor frame by default
    Here’s my importing and sizing problem:
    I hit ENTER to make a new paragraph line (side note: the book says make a new paragraph by hitting ENTER, import the graphic, and then ESC m+p to shrink wrap so that you can avoid the graphic overlapping the above text. I do exactly this (I believe), but my graphic still overlaps the above text when I shrink wrap. What the...?)
    I insert an anchored frame with position Below Current Line and alignment CENTER (I chose to the insert anchor frame, since this way I have control over its alignment, correct?)
    Anchor frame is selected when I import my image file
    In the Imported Graphic Scaling box, what do I select if my file is HUGE (3072x2304)?
    -Fit in selected rectangle (when I choose this the image imports small and fits in the anchored frame with lots of white space around it)
    -72 dpi
    -75 dpi
    -150 dpi
    -300 dpi
    -Custom dpi: 96 (I’ve tried changing this to a smaller number (20) and I get a message that says “cannot handle a bitmap of that size.”)
    I’ve had the best luck with selecting FIT IN SELECTED RECTANGLE, and then I just scale the image with my shift+click. If I choose 72 dpi or Custom, my image imports HUGE, and I just can’t manage it. I don’t have a method for resizing these images outside of FM.
    Problem II: Creating a text frame for a caption
    Once I have chosen FIT IN SELECTED RECTANGLE, I try to insert a text box underneath the image (and inside the anchor frame) to type a caption in it.
    In Create New Text Frame box, the default is Number 1 and Gap 0.25. I click SET.
    Next, I double-click inside the text frame to begin typing, but the cursor is OUTSIDE and UNDERNEATH the text frame! What the heck??? I’ve done this before and it has worked just fine. Then I had another problem where when I did get the text inside the text frame, I would select the text frame to move it, and it left the text behind! (I moved the frame but the text was separated from it and left behind.)
    THANK YOU in advance for your help. I hope I wrote this out clearly enough. I appreciate those who respond. P.S. I'm in FM 10.

    My favorite method is to use a one-cell table for graphics and captions.
    Import the graphic by reference into the table cell. Create a "Caption"
    paragraph tag and assign it to the table title. (The title can be set
    for above or below the table cell. I prefer below.) Now, whenever you
    insert this table, it will be ready for graphic and caption. Another
    advantage of this method is that graphic and caption always stay
    together at page/column breaks.
    When you create the table format above, assign it to have a -2.0 space
    above. Then, create a paragraph tag, such as "TableAnchor" and assign it
    -2.0 pt font size and -2.0 space below. (You can substitute a different
    point size, but it must be the same in all three places. The TableAnchor
    paragraph will hold the table and these settings let tables fit against
    the top margin where necessary. Otherwise, they dip down a bit.
    I wrote this from memory, so I hope I remembered all the steps!

  • Unable to type text in Text Frame

    After I draw a text box on my first page, I am unable to add text to it.
    There is nothing else on the that page, but the blinking cursor never shows up no matter how many times I click on the text frame.
    I checked for preflight errors, there is none.
    All these happen only on the first page. The other pages are fine.
    Im still new to Adobe In Design, so I need your help!

    Twice in one day... See http://forums.adobe.com/message/3790080#3790080 for starters, and having the file available will save lots of guessing if yo don't figure it out yourself. Check the master page, by the way, for a master text frame that might have text wrap applied to it erroneously.
    To shZAre your file, zip it and put it on a server someplace, then post a link here. If you don't have your own server, you can send it to yourself using a service like YouSendIt.com and post the link.

  • Check if Text-Frame was deleted

    Hi,
    i tried "before.." and "after delete" as events to check wether a text-frame is deleted. But it seems that all "objects" in InDesign except the document and placed images/PDFs do not trigger events.
    Therfore i have to questions:
    - can i "do" something to my text-frame to become an event-triggering obejct?
    - if not, how can i check if an text-frame was deleted?
    regards,
    Frank

    You can't do this and this is the wrong approach anyway. The quick answer is triggers are not supported on sys objects, this is to prevent you from corrupting the data dictionary. The longer answer is that v$ views aren't in fact views of tables they are views of memory space of the Oracle executable, made to look like views. They aren't 'inserted' or 'deleted' in the way that regular tables are, the views are 'updated' by the Oracle code updating it's own memory during the course of execution.
    To track an application that has no instrumentation, you would need to trace the database session(s) that the application uses. You need to read about sql_trace (AKA event 10046) and the dbms_monitor package (on 10g) or dbms_system.set_ev packaged procedure (9i and earlier). You very unhelpfully did not provide your Oracle version. This will produce a trace file that can be anaylsed using tkprof (comes with the database), trace analyzer (requires Metalink) or any of a whole number of 3rd party trace file tools, some free, some commercial.
    If your application uses PL/SQL, the DBMS_PROFILER package is also very useful.
    Google, search these forums.

  • Apply different font styles in single text frame

    hi all
    how can i apply different font styles in a single text frame using indesign script ?
    for example :
    "dasdnasndasndlasndnasdlasdasdas"
    may i know is it possible to do that and how to do that ?
    thanks

    You can set (as well as read) every single property of any text range with scripts. This is javascript; it assumes you text cursor is inside a frame with some text.
    * Setting some specific characters to a color:
    app.selection[0].parentStory.characters.itemByRange(5,10).fillColor = "Red";
    * Change the font of words:
    app.selection[0].parentStory.words[3].appliedFont = "Arial\tBold";
    * .. or just the style:
    app.selection[0].parentStory.lines[2].fontStyle = "Italic";
    * .. or any other attribute (this one requires you to have at least 5 characters selected):
    app.selection[0].characters[5].underline = true;
    Of course these operations are not limited to something you select; they work the same with any text frames you can refer to.
    app.activeDocument.textFrames[1].paragraphs[2].appliedCharacterStyle = "charstyle";

  • Problem replacing content in text frame

    I am bumping my head against this. Its something I thought I know. I have a labeled text frame when I alert(mySpineTxt.getElements()); it tells me [object TextFrame] that sounds good to me then I use this
    if(mySpineTxt.getElements().length != 0){
        with(mySpineTxt.parentStory.words.itemByRange(0,0)){
                mySpineTxt.contents=(String(myResp))
    and it tells me that mySpineTxt does not support parentStory. I think it should.
    Please add any corrections that I am missing.

    #targetengine "session"
    //Creates a simple event listener.
    main();
    function main(){
        var myEventListener = app.addEventListener("beforePrint", dateChanges, false);
        var myEventListener = app.addEventListener("beforeSave", dateChanges, false);
        //var myEventKill = app.addEventListener("beforeClose", killDate, false);
    function dateChanges(){
         var myDocument = app.activeDocument;
    var myPageItems = myDocument.pageItems.item("myDateLabel");
    if(myPageItems==myPageItems){
    if(myPageItems.getElements().length != 0){
        //alert ("I want to change your date")
        var myDateText=myPageItems
    var myDate=new Date();
        myDate=String(myDate);
        myDate=myDate.slice(0,15);
        myDate=myDate.slice(4,15);
        alert(myDateText);
        with(myDateText.parentStory.words.itemByRange(2,4)){
                        contents=(    ""+myDate)
    }//ending bracket for dateChanges function
    function killDate(){
    app.removeEventListener("beforePrint", dateChanges, false);}
    this is an event listner that changes the date. This works when I use myDateText.parentStory when I plug it in to the other script i am using same stuff. it doesn't work its object is also listed as a page item.

  • Can't create a text frame

    I started a new two page, two column document and added all the text id multiple text frames in both columns on p.1. When I try to create a text frame on p.2, I only can get the cursor in the upper left corner of p.w in the margin, not in the defined area of the document.
    Can anyone please give me a suggestion as to what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks!
    Larry

    Every document uses a master page, even if you don't choose to add new objects to it. The default master page will have a text frame or frames fitting the defined columns structure if you check off the "Master Text Frame" box in the document setup dialog.
    It doesn't really sound like this is what is happening, though, in your particular case. A master frame would need to be overridden to interfere with creating a new frame on a document page. What it does sound like, though, is that you drew a frame to hold a background image or something similar that is filling the entire page area, but didn't actually put anything into that frame before trying to add your new text frame.
    By default, clicking with the text tool in any empty frame or shape converts it to a text frame. If you understand this behavior you learn to work with it pretty quickly, or you can change the setting in your preferences if you find it annoying.
