Custom ADF Faces Component - Up-to-date Documentation Requested

Hello,
I am evaluating Oracle ADF for an upcoming project where we expect to create some custom components (we have internal data-entry users, and the happier we make them, the better we're doing).
I've gone through the most likely use-cases, combining base components using EL, and customizing functionality ( well, creating a ClientConverter for DateInput). I have one last requirement, but seem to have hit a wall.
I've found the page in the [Oracle Docs|http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24382_01/web.1112/e16181/ad_custom.htm#insertedID2] that should take me through the process... unfortunately, It seems the documentation seems out-of-sync with the current release of JDeveloper.
So, First off, I'm hoping someone can point me to some better documentation... I'm really hoping I was looking in the wrong place, or that someone has taken it upon themselves to have a blog post somewhere that I'm not able to find with Google.
Secondly, for any Oracle employees in the room, here are a list of issues in the current documentation (just in the first two pages):
- 31 - There should be some way to download an archive of the 'example' TagPane project.
- 31.2.1.1 - There is no "Generic" application. In order to get the ability to deploy as ADF Jar, I had to use the project setup from
[this tutorial|http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E18941_01/tutorials/jdtut_11r2_40/jdtut_11r2_40.html].
- 31.2 - Example Files - All of these files exist in META-INF, however, when following the above tutorial, most of them are created in WEB-INF.
- 31.2.1.3 - This isn't required if you use the setup from the tutorial.
- 31.2.1.4 - The folder /jdeveloper/modules/does not contain the specified jars in the current release of JDeveloper... It is located in Middleware\oracle_common\modules.
- 31.2.1.4 - The XSD "web-facesconfig_1_2.xsd" does not exist in the current glassfish.jar
- 31.2.1.4 - The XSD "trinidad-config.xsd" contains an error when adding: 'Error: Line 263, Column 33: invalid facet "pattern" for type "simpleType"'

I have found files and try to import it... Everything looks ok except for 'trinidad-config.xsd'... Oh it is for version JDEV_11.1.2.2.0.
/META-INF/faces-config.xml JDEV_HOME/oracle_common/modules/oracle.jsf_2.0/jsf-impl.jar!/com/sun/faces/web-facesconfig_2_0.xsd ('cause we are using JSF 2.0?)
/META-INF/trinidad-skins.xml JDEV_HOME/oracle_common/modules/oracle.adf.view_11.1.1/trinidad-impl.jar!/org/apache/myfaces/trinidadinternal/ui/laf/xml/schemas/skin/trinidad-skins.xsd (Error: Line 263, Column 33: invalid facet "pattern" for type "simpleType" occurs and I set 'Ignore errors and continue registration', hope it will be ok)
/META-INF/trinidad-config.xml JDEV_HOME/oracle_common/modules/oracle.adf.view_11.1.1/trinidad-api.jar!/trinidad-config.xsd
/META-INF/adf-js-features.xml JDEV_HOME/oracle_common/modules/oracle.adf.view_11.1.1/adf-richclient-api-11.jar!/adf-js-features.xsd
Now I hope everything will work ;)

  • Problem deploying ADF Faces component demo to Glassfish 3.1.2

    Hi,

    Windows 7 (64-bit)
    Following the instructions on https://blogs.oracle.com/shay/entry/deploying_oracle_adf_applications_to I'm able to deploy and run a very simple ADF Faces application.
    But when I try to deploy ADF Faces component demo (rfc-dvt-demo.war) I get following error:

    - to re-create the WAR file with "platform=Glassfish" in the deployment profile but with the same result
    - to create an EAR file with "platform=Glassfish" in the deployment profile but with the same result (I have read in the ADF docs that for ADF applications deployment of WAR files only works witin EAR files)
    From my knowledge the ADF Faces Component demo should be deployable on the certified and supported version of Glassfish as it consists of ADF Essentials features only.
    Anyone already succeeded with deployment of ADF Faces demo application on Glassfish?

    Okay, so my problem was that the URL I was using was the OC4J launch url (http://host/applicationname and my welcome-file-list was
    <welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file>LoginPage.jsp</welcome-file>
    </welcome-file-list>
    I tried these two variations
    <welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file>LoginPage.faces</welcome-file>
    </welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file>faces/LoginPage.jsp</welcome-file>
    </welcome-file-list>
    and neither of these worked either. (I did restart the OC4J node between each attempt.)
    I finally created an index.html file for the application with an automatic refresh content="0;URL=faces/LoginPage.jsp" and this is working.
    Should the welcome-file-list have worked? Am I doing something wrong here?
    Thanks for the help. Mark

  • Change default text in adf faces component in Webcenter Spaces

    Hi ,
    Here is the link that I found to change the default text in adf faces component. http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/adf/learnmore/49-skin-component-labels-169191.pdf
    Scenario is simple :
    Taskflow "ABC" is used in webcenter space through imported Library in spaces App. Taskflow "ABC"  have the pageFragment "view1" and fragment has a adf table on that page. I was trying to change the "Detach" text using below code in above provided instruction.
    { "af_panelCollection.LABEL_DETACH_TABLE_DLG", "Any name for the Detachable Table" },
    { "af_panelCollection.LABEL_DETACH_TREE_TABLE_DLG", "Any name for the Detachable Tree Table" }
    Query/Problem : I did change in the trinidad-skins.xml of DesignWCSpaces app ... redeployed the war.. But the text didn't changed. The above steps worked fine for individual ADF application ... SO what's wrong with implementation on Webcenter Spaces ?

    Hi.
    Basically you have to do the following:
    Create an ADF JAR Library including your Skin (JS, Images, CSS Skin, Resources Bundles and trinidad-skins.xml)
    Deploy the ADF JAR Library as Shared-lib in WebLogic.
    Include in your weblogic.xml of the WebCenter Portal (Formerly Spaces) deployment via DesignWebCenterSpaces or the new extension the reference to the shared-lib.
    Restart WebCenter Portal (Spaces). When starting WebCenter Portal (Spaces) it looks inside of the Classpath for all trinidad-skins.xml files.
    Setup your custom skin for a Space and test.
    If the Skin is not selectable in the Administration Console then register your new skin downloading/updating/uploading from the MDS the generic-site-resources.xml file of the default scope GUID.
    If you still have issues then may I priorize a Blog entry explaining this .
    Regards.

  • ADF-Faces table and mass data

    Hello Oracle,
    we consider to use ADF-Faces with Spring and TopLink or Hibernate that supports all important commercial databases.
    We need a solution for selecting mass data and show them using a ADF-Faces component.
    ADF-Faces table looks great and is fine for for some hundred datasets. But we have customers who could do a select over 80.000 or more datasets and it cannot be the solution to load them completly in collection-model in memory.
    Do you have a solution or do you plan somthing? A JSF data table component for mass data (e.g. load from database on every "next or "previous" click)?
    Regards
    Florian

    I'm pretty new to ADF Faces etc. but I know the ADF Table component supports paging. If you're using ADF Business Components as the persistence framework it supports paging out of the box giving you exactly what you're looking for.
    If you're using EJBs or Toplink I think you have to write your own paging interface but I don't know this for sure.

  • Customizing ADF Faces Look & Feel. Some questions & suggestions

    Hi everybody,
    We are developing an application with ADF Faces using JHeadStart. For the moment, I am studying the way we must modify the JHS templates to adapt each element to our needs.
    As it's told in the JHeadStart Developer's Guide, there are two ways to customize Look & Feel:
    1) Modifying the templates
    2) ADF Skinning
    I'm using both methods, but I feel that thay are not good enough to adapt the L&F to our customer requirements.
    My main problem now is in the ADF Table customization. I want to use ADF Table because it offers us a lot of features that are not in the jsf table (the selection column, the table overflow...), and is very usefull combined with the generated JHS code. But at the same time, it doesn't offer a lot of functionality in the look & feel customization. Using JSF Table, I can set the CSS style for headers, rows, columns, the table, I can set the border, cellspacing and cellpadding. But I cannot do
    any of these thing (or at least, I don't see how) with the ADF Table.
    Our customer (a government) have a strict definition of the look & feel of his web applications. They want we use their CSS styles definition file, so they can modify at once the Look & Feel of all their applications. Modifying the L&F through skinning generate other styles, not use the style classes in our CSS (o so I think).
    So, the questions:
    1) There is any way to set the suitable styles for the ADF Table components (headers, rows)?
    1bis) Why, If I have defined a new skin, with only just a few selectors, some styles from oracle are applied? Maybe because the render kit in the 'adf-skins.xml' is "oracle.adf.desktop"? If it is true, how can I make that they are not used, I must implement a render kit or can I use another existent?
    2) Can I decide how looks the select column (for example a button instead of a radio button)? Can I decide where does it goes (right or left)?
    3) There is any way to hidden the text Show/Hide of the showDetail in the table (the tableOverflow), as I can change the icons through skinning? If it is not possible, How can I overwrite the text. I need it in Catalan, but it is shown in English for this locale. Where is the message bundle I should overwrite?
    4) There is any way to force a tree to start fully expanded?
    5) There is anywhere documentation about the javascript functions used in ADF and their meaning? I think for example in the previous question. If I knew which javascript function I should call for expand the tree and its parameters, I could put the call in the onload event of the body.
    6) I use a selectInputDate. I have skinned the launch-icon, and I would like to do a similar thing in the chooseDate that is opened in a new window. But It seems not to be affected for my skinning directives (if I put a chooseDate in the same page, its L&F follow the skinning rules I've defined). I don't know if this dialog is an ADF feature or a JHS generated feature.
    7) There is any way to keep unmodified the id I've choosed for a component? (I mean, an inputText with id="hello" in a form with id="form" will have in the HTML an id = "form:hello", but I would like it to be simply 'hello')
    8) How can I control the position and the size of a dialog (the chooseDate dialog or a dialog I've created)? In the cases I've been testing, it seems the dialog is forced to resize depending on the content. I would like to know if I can establish a fixed size.
    9) There is any way to open a non-modal dialog? (which I could keep open at the same time that another instance of the same dialog)
    For the moment, I think I have no more question. But give me time.... :-D
    The suggestion I've to do is basically more flexible components for a better customization (for example, the styles settings I've talked about previously). ADF components are nice and powerful, but I think they should generate pages that follow the tendencies in the web development: tableless pages (I cannot understand the utility of the objectSpacer existing the margins), use of CSS for layout...
    Any answer, comment or suggestion will be welcome.
    Carles.

    I have been able to make the UIX 2.2 and ADF Faces LAF look near identical by updating the oracle-desktop.xss file within UIX 2.2 as follows
    <!-- Change the accent color ramp to tan -->
    <style name="DarkAccentBackground">
    <!--<property name="background-color">#cccc99</property>-->
    <property name="background-color">#d2d8b0</property>
    </style>
    There are still some differences:
    1) A black line appears on the ADF Faces on the 'menu1' facet selected tab below the text. DON'T KNOW HOW TO REMOVE THIS FROM ADF Faces or add it to UIX 2.2!!!
    2) In UIX 2.2 a bulleted list uses the HTML <li> tag. In ADF Faces it doesn't use the HTML <li> tag rather it constructs the bulleted list using lower level HTML tags with the 'bullet' becoming an image, in my browser this means the disc is smaller in Faces. The motivation for this change I think is explained via this post. Since I have no control over how this specific HTML tag is rendered it forces me to replace the /adf/images/bltdscn.gif file in adf-faces-impl.jar with a larger disc!

    May update this again if there are other things I notice.

  • ADF Faces Component Missing

    I follow the instructions found here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/howtos/10g/adfjsf/how-to-adf-faces-10gjdev.htm?_template=/ocom/technology/content/print
    When I get to the section:
    Creating a simple ADF Faces application to test your configuration
    My component pallet is missing the following item:
    "JSF Core".
    What do I need to do to install this component?
    Thanks.

    I tried to download and follow the instructions for the early access release, and test the configuration of the project I built off of the .war file within jdeveloper but found that the .zip files you have to download from Sun are empty. I thought I would look here to see if anyone else had run into this problem. Check to see if the jsf-api.jar from the jsf-1_1.zip has anything in it.

  • ADF FACES: Drag&drop of ADF Faces component set all prefixes to af: or :afh

    First i create a JSF page without ADF Faces components;
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
    "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    <%@ page contentType="text/html;charset=windows-1252"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" prefix="f"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" prefix="h"%>
    <f:view>
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"></meta>
    <title>
    untitled2
    </title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <h:form>
    <h:outputText value="outputText0"/>
    </h:form>
    </body>
    </html>
    </f:view>
    Then i put the ADF Faces components <af:inputText (or <af:table>) label="Label 0"/> per drag & drop to my JSF page:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
    "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    <%@ page contentType="text/html;charset=windows-1252"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" prefix="f"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" prefix="h"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/faces/EA11" prefix="af"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/faces/EA11/html" prefix="afh"%>
    <f:view>
    <afh:html>
    <afh:head title="untitled2">
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"></meta>
    </afh:head>
    <afh:body>
    <af:form>
    <h:outputText value="outputText0"/>
    <af:inputText label="Label 0"/>
    </af:form>
    </afh:body>
    </afh:html>
    </f:view>
    !!! All tag prefixes are changed to af: or rather afh: !!!
    Why? Is this a feature? WHERE CAN I DISABLE THIS???
    I read in docs that ADF Faces components works well together with RI components or other and i can mix them.

    I posted about this recently and didn't get a single response. I've scoured the project setting/ preferences and was unable to find any pertinant setting. The workaround i've used is to design the entire page and then use notepad(yep notepad) to add the adf tags. Don't bother trying to open the .jsp/.jspx again in jdev or it will modify the tags. I'm assuming this will be addressed in the production release and am hoping this is not a branding issue.
    I'd love to hear a products person address this.

  • Adf faces component SelectOneChoice

    Is there a way to keep the SelectOneChoice from dynamically sizing itself? When this field changes size it completely messes up the rest of the screen. There is no width attribute to this component. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi tspragg:
    Do you want fix the size of the SelectOneChoice or the entire table?...
    The table and each column have a property of width sizing. There you can put a number in pixels or in percentage, that is best...because that will dynamically sizing your table to the percentage what do you want. However, that size means the minimum size to your column or table, i mean, if the data in a field is larger than your preffered size of the column or table this will grow more than do you want. Other option to fix that is.....in the properties of your outputText component who is in the table, you have to put a number of character where the data will be truncated if exceed that numbers of characters. ( this "truncate" propertie is only in view nivel, i mean, that will dont truncate your data on the database )
    I hope it helps you.
    PD: Sorry, but my english is not the best, if you dont understand something, please tellme here,

  • ADF Faces: Making a component non-navigable. How?

    Hi,
    Is it possible to make an ADF Faces component non-navigable? Something like specifying
    tabindex="-1"in HTML.
    I need this most for buttons.
    Best regards,
    Bisser

    That's right. JSF produces such IDs. They are causing problems with JAAS login forms, so we should use plain JSPs for login, but for the rest of the tasks such IDs are okay.
    What I meant is that currenty the buttons are not rendered as
    <input type="button" ... />but as pictures embedded in hyperlinks (&lt;a>).
    It's possible, though not likely, that in some future version of ADF Faces some component will be rendered as an HTML element that doesn't support tab ordering (although I haven't really considered if there are such elements). Then the trick with manually setting the tabIndex of the parent HTML element won't work.
    Of course, I deeply appreciate the fact that you take the time to help us on this forum. In fact, I will go ahead and do just that -- I will dynamically set the tabIndex via JavaScript. I was simply wanting to make sure that I wasn't taking such a hack-like approach, if there was a better method.
    Thank you again.

  • Problems with combination of ADF Faces, Tomahawk, Facelets and MyFaces

    Hello,
    I am trying to combine all things named in the Subject and run into several problems:
    1. ADF Render Kit forces the Tomahawk Components to be rendered in a wrong way or stop there functionality.
    Example 1: The clickable parts of the t:dataScroller Tag can not be accessed because an empty a Tag will be rendered after the outputText.
    Example 2: The t:commandSortHeader Tag can be clicked but the table content will not be sorted anymore.
    The given examples works if i remove the default-render-kit-id element from the faces-config.xml
    2. The ad:table Tag runs into an ClassCastException, only when I put a simple example code snipped into my xhtml file.
    Code snipped:
    <af:table>
    <af:column>
    <f:facet name="header">
    <af:outputText value="Firstname"/>
    </f:facet>
    </af:column>
    <af:column>
    <f:facet name="header">
    <h:outputText value="Lastname"/>
    </f:facet>
    </af:column>
    </af:table>

    I followed all steps for the ADF installation and the suggested steps for using ADF with Facelets.
    Used versions:
    - Oracle ADF Faces 10.1.3 Early Access
    - myFaces 1.1.1
    - Facelets 1.1.1
    - oc4j 10.1.2.0.2
    Has somebody try to use these things together, too?
    Thanks,
    Carsten

    Hi,
    Inside our fusion applications(ADF/Webcenter) using combination of JSTL and ADF Faces is good practice or pitfal?
    To suggest a a rule of thumb: Try ADF Faces on-board functionality first before reaching out to JSTL. The difference between JSF in general and JSTL is that the JSTL expressions are evaluated at page compile time wheras JSF expressions are evaluated deferred. This difference may have an impact to PPR refreshes and the data rendering (which in many cases I assume you can fix by setting the ADF Faces component content delivery to immediate instead of deferred). On a training slight I flagged JSTL with a "heads up" alert because of this

  • Adf-faces-demo.war for 10g - where can I download this demo package?

    based on Oracle JDeveloper 10g (10.1.3) Documentation this package can be downloaded, but it's not there any more. Anyone know where I can download a copy?
    About the ADF Faces Demo Files The ADF Faces component and feature demonstration files are available in adf-faces-demo.war, which you can download from the Oracle Technology Network at
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/java/jsf.html
    or,
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/htdocs/partners/addins/exchange/jsf/index.html

    The 10.1.3 version of the file is now linked from

  • Create dynamic code on a JSF with ADF Faces

    Hi,
    the next is just sample, nothing to production system, but if I can do the sample I can do something to production system.
    Fine.
    let's suppose that I want to create a html link
    in run-time over a JSF page with ADF Faces component.
    I can do that, I did using javascript and Custom tag,
    but the html link is placed out of the body of the page instead of put it over the place that I put it in development-time
    so, now my question is:
    how I can generate dynamic code using ADF FACES component commandButton or any others.
    any suggestion??
    P.D. if you need more info ask me.

    Hello Jeanne.
    You are right, I used <f:verbatim> element to wrap all my non-JSF elements and it work. :)
    so good so far.
    but, dynamic code mean generate code in this case HTML in run-time.
    That is to say: write code HTML just in time I invoke a page.
    That is posible through Custom Tags.
    You create a Custom Tags this tag generate HTML code after to process any Business Logic. then you put the tag in the page that you want to use it
    someting like this:
    <afh:rowLayout halign="center">
    <afh:cellFormat halign="center">
    <ESE-utilities:populateMenu/>
    </afh:cellFormat>
    </afh:rowLayout>
    the just above bold line is my Custom Tag that generate HTML code
    and not work.
    but, if I replace the tag directly using HTML code in the page, for example:
    <afh:rowLayout halign="center">
    <afh:cellFormat halign="center">
    <f:verbatim>
    prueba
    </f:verbatim>
    </afh:cellFormat>
    </afh:rowLayout>
    it work
    so, now my new question is:
    ¿How can I use a Custom Tagthat generate HTML code, and that code have been written inside of my body page?
    Thanks in advantage for your reply.

  • ADF Faces af:table support java.util.Set

    I was using a java.util.Set in my model classes, as implementation of the Collection interface. And wanted to show the Set using a <af:table> after a while I discoverded that the documentation did not mention support of java.util.Set, only List.
    Now I have to convert my collection to List in the backing beans of my view.
    Is there a better approch than converting every Set in the view using
    new Arraylist(set)?
    And what is the reason of the missing Set support (or General Colelction support)?
    Thank you

    Deepak, I don't think you know what you're writing about.
    No, we do not support java.util.Set in <af:table>. For that matter, neither does <h:dataTable>.
    The "why" of it is that we require indexed access into the table for operations like "Display rows 526-550". java.util.Set does not offer indexed access.
    By the way, one corollary - do not use java.util.LinkedList with tables (ADF Faces or the JSF data table). If the list is small, then it won't be a problem, but with a large list, you'll get brutal performance.

    You're here in the Sun JSF forum, not in the Oracle JSF forum.
    Try here: JDeveloper and ADF
    If the ADF datatable is technically comparable with the RI datatable, check http://balusc.xs4all.nl/srv/dev-jep-dat.html to get some insights how to retrieve the selected row object.
