Custom 'channel mixer' preset?

I'm editing a lot of underwatervideo's in premiere 10. The autocolour effect gives me a lot of colour-flickering, and I have to adjust colour manually with the Channel Mixer effect.
The optimal settings is just about the same in each clip, but I have to set it up from scratch each time.
Is there a way to edit this effect so that it would start with the correct settings?

Welcome to the forum.
Steve's suggestion is a great workflow. It will allow one to make all adjustments to one Clip, and then transfer ALL of those Effects and adjustments to all other Clips, requiring those adjustments. Note: you can then go into each Clip and fine-tune the adjustments, should they require special treatment. Note: if the Clip, from which one has done the Copy, has other Effects, that will NOT be required on the remaining Clips, one must manually Delete those, after Paste Attributes. For that reason, I recommend doing the adjustment and application of any/all Effects that will be common, then doing the Copy/Paste Attributes first, and then going in and adding any additional Effects, that are Clip-specific.
The Auto Effects, such as Color/Colour, will often cause "strobing," if the lighting and exposure are not 100% constant throughout the Clip - any changes, and one will likely get some strobing, which may, or may not be noticed. I shy away from those Auto Effects, as much as I can.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Channel Mixer Presets

    Hello
I'm using PhotoshopCS2 education version on a Windows XP computer. When I open up the channel mixer window, there is no option for channel mixer presets. How can I load presets into Photoshop? Or is this feature only available on later versions?

the Channel Mixer should have a Save and a Load button which you can use to save and load presets

  • CS6 channel mixer misbehaving!

Can someone help with my problem please? I export a photo to CS6 and use channel mixer to swap the red and blue channel values i.e red from 100 to 0 and blue from 0 to 100
which should give me a blue background for infrared photos then for further PP but it is giving me a green background instead and nothing has changed it has just decided it wants to act strangely
I do have malware on my macbook pro retina so Im wondering if this has something to do with it? Would be great full if someone has any clues?

With the channel mixer to swap the Red and Green channels:
    1. Select Red for the Output Channel
Change the Red to Zero (0) and the Blue to 100
    2. Select Blue for the Output Channel
Change the Red to 100 and the Blue to Zero(0)
You could also save the settings as a preset so you don't have to adjust the sliders everytime

  • Transpose PS Channel mixer values to LR

I use presets of channel mixer for converting images to gray. The presets I have are based on RGB Values. How can I transpose that to the 8 channels on LR ?
In addition to transposing from 3 to 8 channels, I see that moving 3 channels to 0% make a black photo. When all sliders on LR are moved to -100%, the gray shades of original photo are not modified.
    thank you for your help.

You should try it and see the effect I am describing for yourself. Noise reduction is not helpful. When channel mixing is done correctly there is no need for noise reduction. The high-res sliders in Lightroom and ACR, though, do not do channel mixing. They operate on specific hues and can't be used as an equivalent to channel mixing no matter how you move them around.

  • CS5.5 Channel Mixer Effect

The channel mixer in CS5.5 now has presets like "Ambisonic B format to L R Ls Rs" and "Matrixed Stereo to ITU 5.1."  The implication is that AA can turn certain 2-channel files into 5.1 files.  Is this correct?  I can't figure out how to make this work, and the online manual has nothing about this.
    J. D.

This is fun, but not as much fun as you'd like it to be.  Let me explain.
There is one caviat we all need to pay attention to: these advanced functions in the Channel Mixer effect are PASSIVE mixing only, and therefore won't correctly decode a matrixed-quad source such as SQ, QS, or Dolby Surround.  I have no idea what that means for Ambisonics.     But there are some interesting applications for this, to be sure.
Now, having said that, here's what I discovered.
If your source file is stereo, then first you must convert it to 5.1 (or whatever is suitable) using Edit > Convert Sample Type.  Pay close attention to the optional dropdowns.
Now you should have a file with two front channels with audio and 4 silent channels.  Then select all, open the Channel Mixer, and proceed.  The end result should be what you're looking for (unless you need phase-based decoding, which is better done via scripting in AA3).

  • Add Channel Mixer functionality to LR

Something I often do is shoot IR with my Sigma SD-14 by removing the hot mirror/"dust cover." The resulting images are pink-magenta-yellow.
Doing a monochrome conversion in LR really doesn't work, whether auto or something else. Grainy, noisy, looks like crap.
What works great is using the PS channel mixer with the "red filter" preset. PERFECT and OUTSTANDING dynamic range, optimally low grain.
Because the high-precision color sliders in LR don't work like anything at all like the channel mixer, it's not possible to get the equivalent out of LR. You can't just drop out blue and green by sliding them all the way to the left - you get noisy mush.
I would love, love, love to have the channel mixer.

  • Channel Mixer in Aperture?

I'm curious, is there a channel mixer in Aperture 3... a hidden feature somewhere? I'm starting to do infrared photography (color) and currently I have to do the channel swap in Photoshop.

They say that the Hoya 72R is similar but not tantamount to an IR conversion but only with some cameras. The camera makers have gone to great lengths to filter out IR because of the problems it causes with visible light. I almost went that route but decided to buy an 830nm converted 10D. It's B&W, but I only ever shot one roll of color IR film. Mine stank, but my friend got a really cool shot of a purple cow in red grass. (Now, there are people who know nothing about Photoshop who would say, "That's just Photoshop" if they saw it.)
If you want to go BW, you can find a custom white balance on your camera that will make it look BW, but you'll still need to do a BW conversion to make it right.
If you're really interested in IR, you should read Kodak Publication #M28 Applied Infrared Photography. You can get it used on Amazon so cheap that shipping will cost more than the Publication.
I have an article on true IR vs software IR that's almost ready. I'll post a link on this thread when I have it up. Any questions you have about IR, hit me up, and I'll answer if I'm able.

  • Compositing - Channel Mixer Help

I've been using AE now for a few years, (since v5.5) and mostly use it for motion graphics. Using CS3 now. But right now, I'm beginning to work through Steve Wright's book, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Compositing-Film-Video-Second/dp/024080760X">Digital Compositing for Film and Video</a> to focus more on true compositing.
The author's aim is to keep the lessons application-independent and present concepts in a way that would be applicable to most software packages. (However, considering the author's frequent references to "nodes" and his well-known status as a Shake user & <a href="http://movielibrary.lynda.com/html/modPage.asp?ID=408">Shake instructor</a>, it's apparent that using Shake, while reading this book, would lead to the least bumps in the road, when attempting to follow along.)
But I'm not using Shake, I'm using AE and have encountered a small bump in the road. Regarding luma keys he mentions how luma values are represented in the individual colors R,G,B. To cut to the chase, he says, "One standard equation that mixes the right proportions of RGB values to create a luminance image on a color monitor is:
    Luminance = 0.30R + 0.59G + 0.11B"
Great. But I can't figure exactly how to mix the RGB values with the above proportions in AE. It's quite easy & straight-forward in Photoshop, using the Channel Mixer. <a href="http://www.geocities.com/kevincbrock/channel_mixer.png">Example here</a>. But AE's Channel Mixer does not seem to work quite the same way as it's counterpart in PS. There are values there, for instance, "Red-Red", but they seem to run in values from -200 to 200, not percentages, like PS. So my question is, how do I achieve the same channel mixing results in AE that I can in PS?
I'll add this: I was able to achieve the desired result in AE, but by using a round-a-bout sort of tactic. Instead of using the "Channel Mixer", I applied the "Set Channels" effect to my sample shot. By changing the "Set Red to Source 1's LUMINANCE", then doing the same for Green and Blue, setting them all to LUMINANCE, the resulting image is identical to the sample shot that was tweaked in Photoshop. Again, it worked, but I'd like to know how to change the proportions of RGB to other values than those represented in the formula above.
    Hope this all makes sense.
Oh, and while I'm here.....I'll throw this in: In AE, when you apply the "Curves" effect, can you input precise values for input / output. Again, this is simple in Photoshop, but unless I don't have some display items turned on in the Curves editor in AE, I don't see a way to enter precise values. Is this possible?
Thanks in advance for any input.
EDIT: for some reason, the links I've posted aren't showing up properly. So if your'e interested in following any of them you'll have to copy/paste on your own. Don't know why......

    >Great. But I can't figure exactly how to mix the RGB values with the
    >above proportions in AE.
You could use expressions... You create sliders for each input, then feed their output to the actual effects. Something like
    //----begin expression
    linear(value,0,100,-200,200)
    //----end expression
should do in most cases. Still, be careful. Not everything written in that book directly applies to AE. It does not figure in any specifics of color management nor different Gammas which could massively skew results because the source footage will already be pre-adjusted and the comp will add another level of adjustments.
    >Oh, and while I'm here.....I'll throw this in: In AE, when you apply >the "Curves" effect, can you input precise values for input / output.
Nope. AE's Curve effect will adapt to the project bit depth as a lot of other effects, presenting you with the problem of which values to actually use. This would only make sense if the effect itself would be independent from AE and process in float all the time and only the inputs were presented as different normalized ranges. There was/ should have been an alternative Curves effect from Frischluft, but at this point development has reached a dead stop, so it's doubtful it will ever be unleashed upon the world.

  • How can I get back all the factory channel strip presets?

    Hi Guys
I have deleted some of the channel strip presets in Logic 8, is there any easy way of getting back all the original factory ones?
    Cheers,

    Hey there,
    Thanks for the quick reply!
Once I find them, do I just drag them into a specific presets folder on the Mac? (if so, which folder?)
Or can the installer be run just for the channel strip presets?
I don't want to end up with duplicates by mistake, either!
    Thanks again,
    Mike
    Yes, you drag them over.
Roght click on the installer packages on the DVDs, and click on the "show package conte4nts" button. This will open the installer package, then navigate until you find the presets. If you have several DVDs, it may take time to get to them, but they're there.
You'll have to place them in your drive here :
Macintosh HD / Library / Application Support / Logic /
That is where all the presets are found. You might have to enter your admin password to copy them over.

  • Can't apply custom channel strip icons in MS v2.2.2??

Hi all.  I've been adding and using custom channel strip icons (in addition to patch icons) in MainStage for a couple of years now but have only just noticed that I can't apply custom channel strip icons in MS v2.2.2....for some reason I can only apply Logic's default icons for channel strips in v2.2.2.  When I try to apply a custom icon to a channel strip, the icon region is blank.  However, I have no problems applying custom icons to patches.
I've never had an issue with this in v2.1.x.
Is anyone else able to apply custom icons to channel strips in MS v2.2.2?
    Cheers
    Gary

CCT, I worked it out.  For starters, you should be able to get custom Channel Strip icons working in MS v2.1.3 if you put the icons here: user\Library\Application Support\Logic\Images.  My installation directory is the root Library but I've realized in the past days that others' installation directory is their user library.  This seems to be the reason why custom Channel Strip icons don't work if placed in the root Library for those users.
For MS v2.2.2, the icons need to be placed in the MS app itself i.e. Show Package Contents: \Contents\Resources\Images.  Don't ask me why but they appear correctly when placed there. I wouldn't be surprised that this situation is a bug that was overlooked by Apple when they developed v2.2.x
I have both versions of MS on my system and in v2.2.2, my icons are duplicated because they're in the v2.2.2 app as well as ~\Library\Application Support\Logic\Images.  However, only those icons located in the v2.2.2 app actually work.

  • Saving  custom white  balance presets

It would be so helpful to be able to store custome white balance settings as presets, just like for most other areas of the program)
Can this be incorprated into the program please?!

I believe the OP is asking for the ability to add custom White Balance presets inside the Basic panel along with the LR presets As Shot, Auto, Daylight, etc. To my knowledge there is no way to do this currently.
I can see where this would be useful, since the Adobe provided settings" are just approximations, and will vary due to differences with each camera's sensor, electronics, lens, UV filter installed, etc. With exception of the 'As Shot' preset none of the Adobe WB presets are accurate with my cameras and have variations of 200K or more. The ability to "create" your own set of WB presets (or change the ones provided) using a simple gray or white balance card for specific lighting conditions would be very useful. It would also be helpful to have them "automatically" associated with the camera model, same as the ones provided by Adobe.
I just checked the Feature Request site and found a post from 7 months ago with this request:
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/allow_users_to_store_custom_white_ba lances
Oh well, another good idea with few "likes." Maybe the OP could post a new request and add more detail as to "why" it is needed. I'm sure you have other reasons for wanting it, so fire away!

  • Curves or Channel Mixer - which is better?

Which do you think is better for colour correcting/adjustment (especially CMYK images)

When you add up the ink percentages of your four ink colors - Cyan+Magenta+Yellow+Black, you'll get your total ink density, which is what I'm sure Alan is referring to. Set one side of your Info Palette to read Total Ink, and then you'll easily be able to monitor that. If you have too much ink density, magazines are very likely to kick your file back, asking you to fix it, making you miss your deadline. If you have too little ink density, your blacks may look weak.
Alan is correct, Curves, Hue/Saturation, and Selective Colors are the first choice tools for CMYK color correction and Channel Mixer is usually for making huge fixes which will usually require Curves to bring back into line anyway.

    Hi everybody
I Have Photoshop Elements 5 and I would like to upgrade it to a later version. Now I need to know if PSE 8 would have Channelmixer, which I need for my work. If not, can I upgrade to a Adobe Version with Channel Mixer ? And how can I do this ?

but that does not help me.   Did this promotion end, or am I missing something?  Do you happen to know how long the offer will be on the table?
