Custom Interval Dimension

Hi there,
I'm looking for recommendations on a best practise here.
I have a requirement where on a given day I must have an arbitrary number of intervals (think buckets of time which are composed of transactions) where I can have at most N intervals per day. These intervals are like time but can be arbitrary lengths i.e. some are seconds, others are minutes.
How the intervals should be formed is based on my source data. On any given day, we always start with interval 1 and it is unknown the total number of intervals we will have by EOD, each interval is defined by a fixed number of transactions. For every interval I am going to need to know the end time as well.
What is the best approach here? Should I be bucketing my fact table and connecting to a standard hour/minute/second dimension or should I be using my transactional data to be making a dimension that accomidates it.

Hi,
    You can very much add new infoobject to the existing time dimension of the infocube.
so i dont see any problem with that.
thanks and regards,

  • Adding Custom 1 dimension to all Balance Sheet and all PL accounts

    We added the Custom 1 dimension to all Balance Sheet and all PL accounts. Previously we only had a the Custom 1 dimension added to a few PL accounts.
    Now it takes a very long time to consolidate and we are getting warnings in the log files as follows:
    One example:
    The Node cube Scenario = Actual, 1, Year = 2009 2009, Entity = MS_UKD 589, InputValueID = USD 17, contains 110182 records
    We are consolidating a month that does not have any data in the product lines for the accounts where the product lines were added.
    Is this slowness in consolidation to be expected when doing this?
    Is there any rule or best practice to adding the custom 1 dimension to a volume of accounts?
    Thanks!

    Essentially, customs are more like sub-accounts than extra dimensions. The warning you got is not new, but this may be the first time you've noticed it. The node is a subcube that must be completely loaded to RAM on the server to do the consolidations. Take your accounts and multiply by custom 1 to see how many additional records are going into the sub cube (2797 x 232 = 648,904). You may want to have your DBA watch the server as you consolidate to see how many resources are being used and if he/she can tweak some settings to help out.
    That being said, my system has 6000 accounts, 2500 custom 1, and 1000 custom 2, but only 600 entities total in 3 hierarchies. Our full consolidation takes an hour, but doing only impacted for the current month takes about 20 minutes.

  • Deleting custom Period dimension members

    Hi,
    We are in Planning 11.1.2.1. and we created custom period dimension members (while creating application). Now we would like to delete one of those members (whcih is at level0). Obviously we don't see an option of delete in planning web interface. One option is to recreate the application but is there any way we can delete this member in oracle database. If yes, it would be great if you can provide us the table details.
    Thanks,
    Siva

    As John suggested it is not advisible, however you can delete in Essbase using Planning:
    1. Edit custom dimsion
    2. un-select all plan type
    3. cube referesh
    Hope this will help.

  • 101.60 smallest value in custom file dimensions

    I have photo lab that provides 150mm*100mm paper. When I try to put in Custom File Dimensions in Print Job in the print tab I get a number between 101.60 to 2540.00 is required. Closet value inserted. Is it mapping to my local printer? I cannot understand this? I use the export function in library part I can export to 150mm*100mm papers. For me printing is (to jpg) sending to photo lab in town. Is the any workaround?

    Annoyingly, the custom size thingie has a minimum size of 4 inches. I cannot understand the reason behind this. You can circumvent it by simply selecting a lower ppi for the output. So if you want to print a 2 inch wide image at 300 ppi, you simply set the width to 4 inches and give it 150 ppi in the file resolution field.  Remember that the only thing that matters is the number of pixels in the file. The lab will scale it correctly for you to the actual paper size. Also, the lab actually scales a little different from what you see as they have to have a small bleed around the image to avoid white borders.
    Lastly Dorin is right that the lab machines in Europe actually use imperial sizes even though they quote the sizes in rounded metric units. So 10x15 is in reality 4x6 inches or 10.16 x 15.24 cm.

  • Aperture custom crop dimensions change after exporting

    I am a professional photographer that uses Aperture for photo editing and management.  I have very specific pixel dimensions that I need to use for finished work.  I set up my custom crop to my dimensions, but when I export the dimensions are not exact.  For example, my crop size is 2166X1600.  I end up with 2166X1599, 2166X1598, 2166X1601, and 2166X1602.  Any crops off by more than two pixels, I have to go back and try to recrop.  Any thoughts on why the custom crops aren't exactly what you set them up to be?

    Export at 72 dpi and it will be the original pixel dimensions. The  1025 px dimension dived by 150 dpi is 492 px. As for the PDF version, never seen them export differently than the page size (plus bleed, etc if added). ID assumes 72 px per inch.

  • Custom Period Dimension

    Hello!
    I have a question.
    There is a great need for such hierarchy of "Period" dimension:
    Year - quarter - month - week - day.
    I know that when creating an Planning application I must choose Time Base Period "Custom" and Periods Per Year = "365".
    But how then create the rest levels of this hierarchy? (week, month, quarter)
    Big thx.

    Have a read of the following post - Re: Custom Period problem
    It is based on weeks but the logic is the same.
    Cheers

  • Sort order for customer hierarchy dimensions

    I am using custom hierarchies in a universe and have created several calendar hierarchies as follows:
    Year
    Quarter
    Month Name
    When drilling in WEBI the Month Name is sorted alphabetically. Is there a way to display month name, but sort by month number (as there is for LoVs)?
    I would prefer to use month name in the hierarchy rather than month number as this is more informative to the user.

    Hi,
    WebIntelligence only provides alphabetical order (ascending or descending) and custom sort.
    So for dates it is recommended to concatenate the month number and the month name to have an sort working.
    Otherwise I recommend to do a custom sort in the document.

  • Custom video dimension

    can i create a video that is custom size - say 190 px x 850 px and how?  I want to create a flash video banner for my website using premeire pro.

    Dear John,
    I followed the following instructions from Collin for custom sized video:
    "When you create a new sequence, on the General tab you'll see an option  called Editing Mode. One of the choices is "Desktop" which will let you  set up most/all parameters to your specifications. If it's something  you'll be doing a lot, set it up once, and then save it as a custom  preset."
    I output as flv file.  I can upload to youtube as is or if I want to add to a webpage I import it into flash and either embed or link it to a "player"  and then add to my page.  Here is an example (I don't think that I used a custom size on this video) http://segalmediaproductions.com/sophie/fitzpatrick.html.
    As far as using in a banner I am experimenting with using a pre-packaged gallery (webassist.com) so that my clients can make changes to the banner as they please.
    Hope this helps,
    Lisa

  • FCE Custom Sequence Dimensions?

  • Custom interval to check mail?

    Hi all,
    is there a way to have Apple Mail check for email every 4 hours or so? I really want it to check for mail 3 times a day, but I do not want to have to set it to manually - I know that way I could not resist checking it more often (funny, isn't it?).
    Maybe there is some plugin or app or terminal thing I could do? I'd appreciate if anyone knows of a way to do this...
    Pit

    you can set mail to check for Mail automatically every 5 min, 15min, 30 min or every hour in Mail preferences->general. there is no built in way to set longer intervals between automatic new mail checks. You can set them up yourself as follows:
    Set Mail preferences to check for mail manually.
    paste the following into Script Editor and save it as an application.
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #ADD8E6;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
    tell application "Mail" to check for new mail</pre>
    then set up a launch daemon to run this app every 4 hours.
    Use [Lingon|http://lingon.sourceforge.net> to make a daemon.

  • Workaround for HFM Drill-Through when using custom dimensions ( 4) in FDM

    Hi all,
    we have the following scenario:
    - Target Custom 3 is defined as a combination of Target Product and Target Cost Center
    - Target Product needs to be obtained by mapping field "PRODUCT" in the source file
    - Target Cost Center needs to be obtained by mapping field "CC" in the source file
    So,
    One approach would be to enable Custom5 and Custom 6 dimensions in FDM, and configure sequence so these two dims are mapped before custom 3 which has a conditional map to get
    values from target c4 and c5 (using varvalues...)
    The issue here is that drill-through does not work as the sql query for the intersection is looking for UD5x and UD6X as NULL, N, or [NONE], and these two columns have a value as they were mapped.
    Trying to solve this issue, we configured C5 and C6 as lookup dimensions so we could create the mapping tables for them although in order to import data from source file fields we used attr2 and attr3. Besides UD5 and UD6, as expected, were not displayed in the Import and Validate/Export grids
    Then the idea was to update the work table with attr2->ud5 and attr3->ud6 in a event script (importaction or befprocmap..) so ud5 and ud6 are mapped.
    The problem is that we noticed that ud5 and ud6 are not updated from attributes. It seems that as they are configured as lookup dims, values may be mapped but not copied from work table to tdataseg.
    If this would work, then after custom3 is mapped we could set ud5x and ud6x to [none] in order the drill-through query to work.
    Having all in custom 3 dim and use mappings on combinations is not desired by the customer as they want to keep product and cc mappings separately.
    I was thinking to use a dummy location for product and cost center mappings and then emulate mappings using SQL but would like to avoid this.
    Any other suggestion?
    Thanks!

    The criteria for mapping C3 is:
    - If Plan = 6 Then Target C3 = SUBACCOUNT
    - If Plan <> 6 AND Account IN range [70000,70999] Then Target C3 = Target CC
    - If Plan <> 6 AND Account NOT IN range [70000,70999] Then Target C3 = Target CC_Target Product
    Fields in the file
    - PLAN
    - ACCOUNT
    - SUBACCOUNT
    - Source CC
    - Source Product
    So current solution actually is to put that logic in the import format so:
    - If Plan = 6 Then Source C3 = SUBACCOUNT
    - If Plan <> 6 AND Account IN range [70000,70999] Then Source C3 = "RULE2"
    - If Plan <> 6 AND Account NOT IN range [70000,70999] Then Source C3 = "RULE3"
    In the mapping of C3, we managed a simple script mapping checking the source C3
    If source c3 = RULE 2 -> Target C3 = Target CC
    If source C3 = RULE 3 -> Target C3 = Target CC_Target Product
    Else Target C3 = source C3 (which is SUBACCOUNT)
    C5 (Cost Center) and C6 (Product) are mapped before C3.
    In order to make Drill-Through working, we save UD5X and UD6X in ATTR2, ATTR3 so the user can see it, and we set then UD5X and UD6X to [None] so the Drill_Through SQL Query returns the values from FDM. If after loading the user goes to validate step, he will see [None] in C5 and C6 but actually this does not really matter as C3 has already been mapped and is the value to be loaded. If the want to review target product or target cc then they drill down to attribute information.

  • Large Custom Dimension

    We have a requirement to have an application with forecasts performed at supplier level (in conjunction with accounts). I know that the question of how big can a dimension be is not a straight forward one and depends on several factors. However, I am having to answer it for a client and would like to ensure that I have the right starting point.
    My initial view was that a custom dimension of 18,000 (eventual) members is, in itself, not a great design approach. But, budgets and forecasts will be managed at this level of detail (by supplier), so I need to find a way to do it without ending up with a badly performing beast. WFP apps often have large employee dimensions, so I am thinking that (with everything else designed simply and optimally and adequate hardware being in place), maybe we can have a very large custom dimension and not have to endure massive performance issues?
    My first question then is, is it achieveable to have such a big, custom, sparse dimension? Has anyone else done this (maybe with a large employee dimension in an WFP app)?
    What major issues should I be concerned about? To some extent, I feel that I need to design and build the app to fully know what the issues and performance will be. But, before launching into that and failing due to size, I am hoping that someone here can give me some words of encouragement that it isn't outside of the realms of possibility to manage a very large dim.

    Thanks Alp.
    I have quite a few Planning implementations behind me, but this is the first time I have needed to go down the route of creating such a large sparse dimension, so your advice is very helpful and comforting!
    The "how big" can x be with Hyperion is often an essential and flaky question generally with an even flakier answer. There are obviously many factors involved, but all the same is something that crops up from time to time, so I appreciate your response. Many thanks!
    Absolutely, we will be managing this meta-data within it's own database and summarising to the main app. I will also have a think about th move to a single dense dimension and will do some calcs for block size. I assume that you mean to possibly change account and period from dense to sparse and make the custom dimension dense?

  • Why Custom dimension is required

    Hi all,
    Custom dimension provides additional detail of Accounts.
    My question is could we build the HFM application with out custom dimension or its a mandatory to have at least one/two custom dimension to build an application.

    Hi reachsubbiah,
    I agree with Paul.
    Custom dimensions allow you to store additional details associated with accounts, such as products, markets, channels, balance sheet movement, or types of elimination.
    For example, custom dimensions could include Product Line, Region, Channel, or Customers.
    Bear in mind you if your application uses exchange rates and currencies, this data is stored within the Custom 1 and Custom 2 dimensions.
    They are system defined currency members in the Custom1 and Custom2 dimension for each currency in the application.
    You enter currency rates in data grids using these grid settings:
    - Row Dimension = Custom 1
    - Column Dimension = Custom 2
    - Row List and Column List = The member lists you created that contain the application
    currencies, or the System List [Currencies]
    Cheers,
    David
