Customizing Convergence 2 (patch 1) - From address

I am looking for some help on customizing something specific in Convergence 2. It is not documented in the Convergence Customization Guide on the Oracle Wiki for CommSuite (http://wikis.sun.com/display/CommSuite/Convergence+2+Customization+Guide).
I would like to be able to disable the "From" feature that becomes enabled in Options after creating a new message. This option only appears when there are multiple Identities (Local Account + any more). The new Identities get created each time an External Account is created.
I have found how to disable the ability to add an External Accounts entirely but this is a bit too extreme for what I want to accomplish.
Also this (http://wikis.sun.com/display/CommSuite/Customization+Example+-DisablingIdentity+Settings+in+Convergence+2) just prevents users from editing the Identity values. But they still get created when an External Account is created.
I think what I am looking to change is contained in js/iwc/widget/mail/CreateMessage.js .. somewhere around this code
//senderId
dojo.forEach(iwc.userPrefs.senderidentities.identity, function(id) {
var label = '<' + id.email + '>';
if (id.displayname)
label = '\"' + id.displayname + '\" ' + label;
this.senderId.addOption({"label": label, "value": id.identityname});
}, this);
I am not a dojo guru and so need a little help on what changes to make to c11n/allDomain/js/customize.js and then c11n/allDomain/js/widget/CreateMessage.js

  • Custom fields from Address Book on desktop don't sync to iPhone

    I recently switched from a Palm Treo to iPhone. The sync wasn't seamless so I am editing contact info one at a time. I noticed that when I add custom fields to a card in Address Book they don't sync to my contacts in iPhone...why?
    For example, I've created fields for the names of children but when I view the contact on my phone I only get the contacts Bday, Anniv and Notes section. Very frustrating since I'm spending time filling all of this info in. Can anyone help? Thanks!!

    I also migrated from a Treo to an iPhone, and was hoping to have custom field information transfer from my desktop to my iPhone. It would be rather handy when I need help remembering the name of someone's spouse, etc. Has someone created an iPhone app for this perhaps?

  • Creating a drop down to add customer address from Address book in numbers 0

    Hi fellow Mac people,
    I have a numbers invoice created and want to be able to add my customers addresses from address book using a drop down menu or just have it retrieve the info from address book
    Anyone know how to do this
    Any help would be great
    Thanks
    Rob

    You can drag an entry from the address book into a table in a Numbers document. Numbers does not have a way to do add contact information via a drop down menu. The table you drag the contact(s) into should have column headings for each item you want (name, address, phone, etc) as explained in the User's Manual.
    What you could do is create a table for all of your customer contact information. Every customer would be in the table. You could use then one of the LOOKUP functions or a popup menu to chose a particular contact from the table and transfer it to where you want it (such as on an invoice or an estimate or whatever other tables you have in your document).

  • Custom "FROM" address on email sent from iPhone

    We need to insure that all email sent from an iPhone 6 uses a particular company FROM address. That address will not be set up in an email account on the phone, and I'm not able to see any obvious way to configure what we require.
    Is this available?
    Thanks.

    Can you elaborate a little?
    Are you speaking of an email signature? Or something like a custom address?

  • Deleting custom labels from Address Book (& iPhone !)

    Not sure if this has been covered, but I've got a lot of extrraneous custom labels created in Address Book.
    Does anyone know how to remove the ones not wanted any longer ? Just that the list gets longer and longer each time !
    Shame Apple didn't think to have all labels done with the first letter capitalised - looks much better that way.

    I also migrated from a Treo to an iPhone, and was hoping to have custom field information transfer from my desktop to my iPhone. It would be rather handy when I need help remembering the name of someone's spouse, etc. Has someone created an iPhone app for this perhaps?

  • Gmail custom From address - Mail

    This is a great feature for Gmail users that can hopefully be used in Mail.
    Through the Gmail web portal you can select which 'From' address is displayed in that sent message. This needs to be setup prior to usage according to these instructions: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=22370
    *Is there a way to setup custom 'From' addresses in the Mail.app?* More to the point: *Can Mail.app use my Gmail custom 'From' addresses?* Mail.app is using imap/smtp server protocols. Gmail requires that you provide verification for each address you add; addresses that you control.
    Thank you in advance for any suggestions!
    Madison

    Thanks for the response Ernie, here is a bit more info on what I'm hoping to do (or as you suggested questions/thoughts for finding a workable alternative).
    Through Gmail (via browser) i'm able to select which address the recipient will see when they receive my message. This is done in the Compose Message phase. I currently have two email addresses that i'm using; my university account and personal (gmail) account. For correspondence through school I would like to reply via my university address. Fortunately using Gmail (via browser) this has consolidated both emails to one place where I can receive and send from both addresses.
    I was hoping to use my IMAP/STMP connection so that all my emails, calendar entries and contacts are located on Google's services. Having everything on my Google account allows me to send & view emails, calendar, and contacts from my phone, computer or campus computer.
    As you explained Gmail maintains Authentication through SMTP. I guess what I should be asking is how to add (if possible) outgoing mail servers to Mail. I may be confused on exactly what Gmail is doing when sending my various custom 'From' emails but I believe they are just manipulated so that messages are received from the selected 'From' account. Unfortunately, if I don't use my Gmail STMP those sent messages aren't saved in Gmail.
    When using my MacBook though I wanted to have this functionality through Mail.app so that I wouldn't have to use the browser.
    *If you have some suggestions for alternatives I would be interested in checking them out.* I do have a ISP email account, but I foresee a bit of a mess; as stated using Google has allowed me to unify all my communications and access them easily, instead of having various accounts to constantly check and update.
    Thanks again,
    Madison

  • Custom image from Address book not syncing to Exchange.

    I am running Mac OS X v 10.7.5. I have added custom images to contacts in address book. I have an Exchange account which will sync the data (ie name, address, email) but not the custom image. Is there away to have custom images sync to Exchange/Outlook?

    I'm Running Mac OS X Lion, and have seen that changes made in the mac address book do not sync to gmail contacts but changes to gmail contacts do sync to the mac address book.
    Making a change to a contact on my phone does sync to gmail contacts, and then to the mac address book.
    Another test I ran was to change the same contact in gmail and mac address book.  I made a change to a mobile number and notes in one contact on my mac address book, attempted to sync, and the change does not appear in my gmail contacts.  I tried multiple times, restarted my web browser, restarted mac address book, the sync would not work.  I changed the same contact mobile number in gmail with a slightly different change to the notes field so I could see when an update occurred, and when I told mac address book to sync it recognized a conflict. When I select the mac address book change to resolve the conflict, the gmail contact is not updated.  When I repeated the experiment and selected the gmail contact to resolve the conflict the change is made in the mac address book.

  • Setting a Custom Gmail "From" Address in iPhone Mail

    I'm trying to set a different "From" or "Reply-to" address in the iPhone Mail app when using my Gmail account. I want the messages I send out to look like I've sent it from another e-mail account and not my gmail account. I tried the way Gmail recommends: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=81375# but that doesn't seem to work. It might be a different function with the iPhone 3G/iPhone 2.0 software.
    Anyone know of a workaround?

    Jrags, you can do this by setting up your email on your iPhone not using the "Gmail" option under "Add account" but rather the "Other" option." You can then specify the "from" address you want. You then also have to enter all the settings yourself for the Gmail incoming and outgoing servers.
    While in general it works just fine, there is one quirk you should know about. When you set it up this way, and you also choose to have the copies of the messages you have sent saved on the Gmail server, it can take up to 24 hours for them to appear there. If you save the copies of your outgoing messages on your iPhone they are saved instantly.

  • Kmail and custom from address

    I have started to use kmail and I want to set my own from address on out going e-mail.
    I have my own domain but it forwards to my rogers account. How do I set up kmail to show my domain name.
    ie: [email protected] instead of [email protected]
    I was able to do this in thunderbird but I can't figure out how to do it in kmail

    Settings->Configure->Identies.
    Here you can add and modify your identities. This includes name, email-address, and so on.

  • How/can I change the "from" address in Mail?

    I just upgraded to Mountain Lion, and have come across a problem.
    I use iCloud for my mail account, but I want to change the "from" address - so the return address on my messages is NOT icloud.
    I could do this in Lion.
    In the mail account settings, there's an option that says "alias" and it lists (me)@mac.com, (me)@me.com and (me)@icloud.com, and then "custom" is an option.
    Great!
    So I choose Custom, and then I can type in the "from" address that I want.
    However, when I go to save those changes, it tells me the SMTP server can't be left blank.
    What?
    It's not blank! I didn't touch it. The icloud server is still there!
    Furthermore, it's greyed out, so even if it WERE blank, it's not like I can edit it!
    Once this happens, the only fix is to delete the whole account from mail, and to disable mail in the icloud control panel, then re-add it.
    Has anyone figured out to work around this?

    Apple's outgoing mail server - just like 99.9% of all other SMTP servers, does not allow "relaying", meaning you use a domain in the 'sent from' address that is different from a domain hosted by the server. The simple reason is to make it harder for any spammer - not assuming you are one - to abuse the server. While bandwidth, server capacity and server load are some issues, the main fear for ISPs is to get blacklisted, and consequently mails from such server being refused by all others.
    It's a general rule, and while exceptions might be technically possible, it would be a manual act which at a certain rate would become unmanageable.
    If you want, read about the antonym, open mail relay servers, here.
    You see, it's actually good behavior and absolutely in your interest to prevent you from using a "non-in-house" 'sent from' address.

  • Printing multiple envelopes from address book with Lion

    I am having trouble getting envelopes to print properly from Address Book in Lion.  I have specified size #10 envelopes.  When I print them, the text printed on successive envelopes moves further and further down the page until the address drops off of one envelope and is then printed at the top of the next envelope.  If I print to PDF, I see the same behavior.  I have an HP Photosmart Premium printer.  I didn't have this problem before I upgraded to Lion, and all my settings are the same as they were prior to the upgrade.  I have seen that other users have the same problem on the forums, but there isn't a clear cut answer to how to solve the problem anywhere.  I also tried using the easy envelopes widget, and I still have the creeping further down the envelope problem.  HELP!!!

    It seems to be a bug in Lion. Try the solutions provided in other disucssions about changing print size and orientation. Create a custom size and save it. You should be able to test it by printing to pdf first to check it. That way you won't have to waste paper.

  • Email 'From' address in Mail

    In OSX Mail.app, you can now select 'Custom' from the pop-up menu for Aliases and enter whatever you want, even if they're not Apple addresses. But, how can one do this in iOS? All I can see in iOS Settings for an iCloud type account is the list of aliases set up in iCloud on the web (something you actually cannot do from iOS bizarrely), which can ONLY be iCloud.com addresses. Am I missing something here?
    At the moment it seems to me that Mail in OSX and iOS have entirely different capabilities. I need to be able to use different addresses to send From. I can do this when on my Mac, but I cannot seem to do that from any iOS device. With all the recent furore about Mavericks and iOS 7, I would have thought they might have noticed this glaring inconsistency.
    Anyone know if it is actually possible to use alternate (non Apple) From addresses in iOS Mail?

    I just checked something else. My mail account is a hotmail one, so I decided to log into hotmail proper and see how it displays there. The same thing happens on the hotmail site, so perhaps it's a sender issue.
    That would mean that Mail takes its 'from' field from the sender's metadata rather than data that's on my machine. Is this how it works?

  • How to rewrite the from-address on the 5.2 messagingserver

    We have recently upgraded our mail server from Netscape Messaging Server 4.15 (DS 4.11) to iPlanet Messaging Server 5.2 Patch 1 (including DS 5.2). Now we have the following problem:
    With the old Netscape Messaging Server 4.15 it was possible to rewrite the from-address so the from-address would look like:
    From: my_name <[email protected]>
    The alias 'my_name' is the cn (common name) from the ldap attribute belonging to the emailaddress [email protected]
    With our new messaging server 5.2 the from-section in the mail header is in the form of:
    From: friendly name <[email protected]>
    The value for 'friendly name' can be changed depending on what is filled in by the email client software.
    Our question: Is it possible to rewrite the from-address on the 5.2 messagingserver to the same form as it was on the 4.15 messagingserver (using the cn instead of the friendly name which is filled in by the mailclient) , how can we do this?

    There are a variety of rewrites available with 5.2, not quite as obvious as they were with 4.xx...
    Most likely the easiest would be to create a
    MailAlternateAddress for your user(s) that matches what you want to see. That'll rewrite the outbound.

  • Can I print Dymo labels directly from Address Book?

    That would be cool. But I end up launching Dymo's crap app and cutting and pasting every address into a label I want to print.

    I agree with the previous posts that Dymo's Label Software is satisfactory when you choose to use Apple's Address Book app. However, I frequently want to print a single label from Address Book, and I don't like to waste time launching Dymo's app and scrolling (no search function!) through my addresses.
    Here's the solution I have used to print a single address label from Address Book (v. 3.1.2) to my LabelWriter Twin Turbo:
    (1) With the address selected in Address Book, got to File > Print ...
    (2) Choose "Dymo Labelwriter" from the Printer drop-down menu
    (3) Under the "Layout" tab (not "List"), be sure "Dymo" & "Shipping Labels" is selected from the Page drop-down. (It seems counter-intuitive to select shipping labels when you're printing address labels, but it's the only workaround I've found, and you'll modify the margins in step #4.)
    (4) Now select "Define Custom ..." from the Page drop-down menu and give it a new name (e.g. "Dymo Address") (+At this point, the label preview on the left should look like a big shipping label still+.)
    (5) Modify the margins of your custom page layout (in inches) to Top=1.200 Bottom=0.000 Left=0.500 Right=0.250
    (6) Print a sample copy and adjust margins to suit your needs
    If you wonder why this circuitous route works, +so do I+. If you don't want to read my proposed explanation, simply follow the steps above and stop reading. If you'd like to know what I think is happening, feel free to read on:
    As best I can discern, Address Book is sending the print job to the Labelwriter, assuming the label spool is *centered on the spindle*. As you know, that's not the case. However, when you tell Address Book you're printing on a large shipping label, which takes up most of the spindle anyway, you can then adjust the margins (esp. the top margin) to print only on the "bottom half" of the shipping label. That means you've defined margins suitable to print on the actual address labels installed on the left side of the spindle.
