Customizing Favorites portlet **PAGE**

I would like to change the page style of the Favorites portlet but I don't see the needed pages in the Portlet Repository.
Are they in a JSP or servlet somewhere?
/d

Doug,
Styles will most likely meet your needs. You can apply them to an entire page group, page or page region. Templates are more useful when you are certain of your site's layout and want to enforce design standards for a large enterprise effort. Even then, since templates use styles, you'll want to define your styles first.
You may want to check out Report #40050 at portalcenter.oracle.com, Design an Attractive and Compelling Portal Interface for a good overview of the various design features of Oracle Portal.

• Custom Search Portlet: How to specify a page in the auto query?

I want to specify a page in an auto query (Automatically display search results).
I'm able to specify a pagegroup (Tab What to Search), but unable to select a specific page and to include/exclude subpages.
This option is available on the SearchForm Tab. We are running 9.0.4.

A similar question was asked in this discussion:
Custom Search Portlet
A Portal Search Team member replied that this feature might be included in 9.0.4.
We are testing 9.0.4 and it's not available. When is feature this scheduled?

• How can I put "Favorites"portlets for various users in a page?

How can i put in a page two "Favorites" portlets (one for each user that log on into the page and one for each group of users that logon into the page),so each
user can customize (add favorites,delete favorites,..) it's own "Favorites" portlet and the other "Favorites" portlet is only customizable by a
group of user,so if the user log on is not in that group can't customize the portlet.

The favorites portlet is set up to work this way automatically. You put one version on a page, and the customizations are stored for each individual user. So the same portlet displays different favorites based on the logged in user. At this point, there is no way to define favorites for a group.

• Single click to add "current page" to favorites portlet

Hello all,
Ok, I'd like to construct a hyperlink and have it on every page in our Portal. Clicking on it automatically adds the "current page" to the Favorites portlet.
Anyone have any ideas? Does the Favorites portlet expose any interesting api solutions?
Thanks

Hi,
A bit late for a response to the original posters though others may benefit.
The Portal Smart Link "Favorites" performs this function. Add it to your template and you are done. Note, it is not Tab aware if your page has them.

• URGENT: Favorites Portlet Problem

Hi
I have edited the links on the Favorites Portlets and deleted the one that were the default ones like Oracle, Oracle Help or Oracle Technology Network but when I load my page they are there, I don't understand why.
Please help me I need to show my links instead of the default ones.
Thanks in advance
Ana

My version is:
Oracle Portal Version: 3.0.9.8.2
The problem is that I have customized the portlet, I removed the default links, but they don't disappear, they still there when I load my page but when I login then my links appear, so I really don't understand the customize of this portlet.
Thanks

• How to create a custom search portlet that groups results by category

Hello,
Is it possible to create a custom search portlet whose search results are displayed on a page grouped by Category? Basically the results page should have Category heading followed by search results.
I realize this is not canned functionality but any ideas on how to accomplish this using PLSQL APIs is also welcome.
Thanks.

hi,
one workaround i could think of is using the CM views to search for content that belongs to a category and display it in a custom way.
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/portal/html/plsqldoc/pldoc904/wwsbr_api_view.html
this only allows you to search for the meta-data available in the CM views but not the content of an item that is available when doing a search.
in the next major portal release we will have a publich search API that can be used for these type of requirements. you can execute your search and format the results in the way you want.

• Custom Search portlet : how to sort the result in sequence (Portal 10.1.4)

With a Custom Search portlet how to Sort the Result By Sequence. i.e. by respecting arrangements of the items in the page of contents?
Actually the Results Options "Order By" are : Create Date, Author, Creator, Date Updated, Display Name, Last Update by, Publish Date, Score.
Is there an action to add the "Sequence" Order By result Option?
Great thanks for your kind help.

No, I agree that it is functionality that should be added to the product, but it
is not a bug because it was not written to do this.
It is a short coming of the product.

• Custom Search on Pages

Portal 9.0.2.3.0.b
We wish to use a custom search portlet to allow users to search pages (not items) based on keywords. We have selected the keywords attribute but the search still looks at the display name and description as well. Is this expected behaviour? I thought the custom search should only query against the selected attributes.
Thanks
Lisa

Yes, this is expected behaviour for the "search term" ie. in the "Search For" field. It varies slight depending on whether Oracle Text is enabled or not. If it is not:
Searches are performed on the page attributes, such as title, description and keywords.
If it is:
Searches are performed on the page attributes creator, description, keywords, name, title and updator.

• Customized search portlet

In the configuration of the customized searh portlet I have two question:
1. How can I force the research in a page and it's subpages whitout give the choise to the user?
2. How can I force the research on a item type only?
For example, I have an item type with name Faq, and I wold give to the user a search box for to search in the items Faq in a fixed range (a page and it's subpages).
It's possible with the custom search portlet? What is the right way?
I have Portal 10.1.2
Thanks.

Hi Smignani:
I've not had much luck funding how to limit a custom search to a specific page and its subpages. You can certainly limit it to a specific pagegroup if that helps. It is on the "What to search" tab. You can also take away their ability to choose a page by clearing the pagegroup and page check boxes on the "Search Form" tab.
If you don't want to give your FAQs their own pagegroup, here's a trick I have used with success in the past when dealing with a custom search and custom item types:
Create a new attribute called 'searchable' or 'faq'. Assign the attribute to your custom item type FAQ with a default value of Y. Set it so it is hidden (does not appear on create or edit). Now, edit your custom search and add the 'searchable'/'faq' attribute to the "Search Criteria" tab with a value of Y. Finally, remove the attribute from the search form and results display tabs.
This will cause the custom search to only return your FAQ item type. If used in conjunction with the removing the user's ability to select a page or pagegroup, this should effectively give you what you wanted I believe.

• Linking to individual custom database portlets

When we create menu items in Portal normally we can link to an individual form or report component created in oracle portal and exposed via url for show or other routine. We need to setup menu items each to link to our custom database portlets. Is there any API or any other way of invoking this programatically?
For e.g. if I have a portlet helloworld_portlet can I invoke helloworld_portlet.show directly? Any examples would help.
Also there are undocumented API's to link to tabs or to pages or via query of sbr views. Are there any documented API's to link to tabs or subtabs?

Hi,
I dont think what you want is possible, the whole idea of a portlet is that its part (building block) of a page and not being a webpage by itself.
There are perhaps some workarounds
- try displaying the portlet in detail modus
- perhaps create a hybrid portlet, that is a servlet & portlet at the same time
In one of my portlets im also linking to a portlet on another page. I keep the durable link of the page where the second portlet resides as a setting in my database

Travis,
You can change the display names via the JSP tools. Login to the tools, and select
the portal for the "everyone" group. The procedure is the same as for group portals.
In future, please post all WLP related questions to the weblogic.developer.interest.portal
newsgroup.

I have a question regarding portlet names. Referring to the stockportal that comeswith portal server, I notice that the name for one of the portlets is "About Avitek."
In the ebcc the portlet is identified as "AboutAvitek." So, I am wondering how the
space got in the middle of the two words. I found that in the PORTLET_P13N table
that the value in the Display_Name column was the "About Avitek." I would like to
control the title bar name of the portlet for non-logged in users. Has anyone else
notices and overcome this issue? My desired goal is to allow the ebcc user to control
the title bar name through the ebcc. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Travis,
I just spoke to the engineer working on this for the 4.1 release and it has
already been implemented. If you want to do some custom coding I think you
can also write a JSP that exposes the API methods to your users to change
the display name.

Actually, I think the "display-name" is the more appropriate element toedit.

This is a bummer; this appears so naturally for the example, when in factits going
to be nearly impossible for a "Business User" to edit such a file. Iguess my main
request to the EBCC group is if there is an option in any of theassociated schema's,
e.g. the "display-name" element in the portal-1_0.xsd schema, then providea way
to edit it via the EBCC.
Thanks,

Travis,
It looks like you are going to have to edit the XML by hand to introduce
the
space into the portlet-name. E.g.
<portlet-name>ReviewNewsletters</portlet-name>
goes to:
<portlet-name>Review Newsletters</portlet-name>
I will take this up with the EBCC engineers and file a CR. Please let me
know if this does not solve the problem.
Thanks (and sorry),

Subbu,
I've been all over the ebcc. Even inside of the xml files. Nowhere dois
see the
possibility of manipulating the "Display Name" of the portlets in theebcc
at all.
Of course when you create a new portlet you can name it but that namehas
restrictions
against it, e.g. no spaces.
Do you know specifically where I can manipulate that attribute in theebcc?

• Changing look of Favorites portlet

Is there a way to adjust the space between and space around the items in the Favorites portlet? I want the spacing to match the spacing in rest of the portlets on the page.

An improved version of my previous example to list the properties. This one shows the keys in alphabetic sequence and the value types.
UIDefaults def = UIManager.getLookAndFeelDefaults();
TreeSet ts = new TreeSet(def.keySet());
Iterator iter = ts.iterator();
while (iter.hasNext()) {
Object key = iter.next();
System.out.print(key);
try {
System.out.println(" : " + def.get(key).getClass().getName());
} catch (NullPointerException e) {
System.out.println(" : null");
}Then you can can change the fonts (for example) for certain components like this
JPanel p = new JPanel();
Font font = new Font(getFont().getName(), Font.BOLD, 24);
UIManager.put("Button.font", font);
UIManager.put("TextField.font", font);
UIManager.put("Label.font", font);

Both can be found in the portal images directory (\oracle\ora9ias\portal30\images). But of course, it now won't show anywhere.
Your best bet is to make a custom portlet and then let it show an IFRAME. That way, users can scroll. You can't customize the stock "my favirites" portlet, since the code in the database is wrapped :-/

• Changing colors/style sheets with custom header portlets?

We would like write a completely custom header portlet (a standard portlet that is designated as a header, notusing the branding server), but I can't seem to find a way to change the style sheets in subportals when I do this.
Am I missing something? Do you have to use the branding engine to control style sheets in subportals, or is there another way?
Chris StoffelPortal DeveloperHalliburton KBR

------- developersupport wrote on 12/11/03 4:24 PM -------
The way Branding accomplishes what you're looking for is by setting a portlet setting called "Portal-Style" on the header portlet using the EDK. This setting can be set either as an Admin level or CommunityPortlet level setting. When the portal loads a page with a header, it will check to see if the header has this preference set (first on the CommunityPortlet level, if the header is on a community, and then on the Admin level). If so, the portal will cause everything to use the stylesheet specified in the setting value.
The setting value is the name of the stylesheet. For example, if you wished every page displaying the header to be orange, you could set the "Portal-Style" Admin setting on the portlet to a value of "mainstyle17", the orange-themed stylesheet.
Perhaps I'm not setting the preference properly. Sniffing the HTTP headers between the gadget and portal servers, I do see:
[HTTP_CSP_GLOBAL_GADGET_PREF] => Portal-Style=mainstyle17
(I also tried it with Portal%u002DStyle, but neither works)
The remote server header portlet doesn't seem to be picking up the fact that there is an admin pref to override the main page's stylesheet. Did I create the portlet wrong, or am I setting the preference incorrectly, or what? Thanks
