Customizing SSAS drill through action

Hi eb
Is there an easy way to customizing SSAS built in drill through action?
For example adding an export to excel option or exposing some of its fields as filters?
Of course a reporting action comes in to mind but i was wondering if there was any thing
one could do with the drill through action instead of adding another technological layer to the solution?
TIA
Rea

Hi reapeleg,
According to your description, you want to customizing an Action drill through into an exported Excel SSRS report without involving SSRS. Right?
In Analysis Services, it's not supported to create an action which combines both Drillthrough and Reporting. For your requirement, it can't be achieved currently. You have to use a Reporting to navigate to a SSRS report and export into a format(Excel, CSV,
PDF.....).
However, in this scenario, I suggest you directly access the data in SSRS. And you can also implement MDX Dirllthrough action in SSRS. Please refer to an article below:

If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • How to add drill-through action programmingly

I am using a third-party tool to create the SSAS cube. That tool does not have the function to create a drill-through action so I have to manually add the drill-through each time after I overwrite the SSAS database.
Is there a way to add the drill-through action through code, like XMLA? I googled this topics for a while but could not find the answer.
    Thanks.

    HI,
U can use AMO(Analysis Management Objects) to create a whole SSAS Database.
    For example
    http://avinashkt.blogspot.co.at/2008/04/olap-cube-generation-programmatically.html
This example shows the cube generation programmatically by C#. But there are alos classes and methods in AMO for Actions.

  • Multiple filter for cube drill through

    Hi,
I am using MS-Analysis service 2012 to develop cube and office 2013 to browse the cube data.
I knew that drill through action will not work for Excel 2007 and below if the user selected  multiple filter. is there any option available for Excel 2o12?
It is very important for our client to have multiple filter and drill through the details.
    Please help..
    Thanks
    Jithesh

    Hi Jithesh,
As Marco said, SQL Server Analysis Services doesn't support multiselect drillthrough statements currently. Here are some suggestions on the similar thread, please see:

If this is not what you want, I am afraid there is no other approach to workaround this. If you have any concerns about this feature, you can submit a feedback at

  • Error on the reports with drill-through links on SSRS 2012 SP2 -- Invalid URI: The Uri string is too long

Hi, We are migrating SSRS 2008 R2 reports to SSRS 2012 SP2. (PS. SSRS 2012 SP2 has been applied.) Everything went smooth expect some reports which were using reporting services. These reports have some drilin-through actions and was passing in a huge
xml parameter. I referred to some other posts in which there were also some similar issues like "The Uri string is too long."  but they're different. My reports can be opened and the error only occurred when accessing the drill-through actions.
As I know, Microsoft has provided the fix for the known issue "The Uri string is too long." in sp1 but it looks it can't cover this kind of situation since I have installed the SSRS SP 2. Is there any solution? In addition, there's no such
    issue on SSRS 2008 R2.
    Thanks,
    onizga

    Hi onizga,
According to your description that you are migrating SSRS 2008 R2 reports to SSRS 2012 SP2, after migration you got some error like “The Uri string is too long” which only occurred when accessing the drill-through actions, right?
Usually, the issue can be caused when you try to pass some parameters that cause the URL length to exceed 65,520 characters for a Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services (SSRS 2012), you cannot render the report, and you may receive the following error
    message:
The value of parameter 'param' is not valid. (rsInvalidParameter).Invalid URI: The Uri string is too long.
This is an known issue and already have the hotfix SQL Server 2012 Service Pack1 Cumulative Update 9 (CU9) as you know, you can try to reinstall this hotfix to fixed this issue:

  • Creating a Detail Table Based on an Action in Another Table or Matrix to Display in the Same Report (Not a Drill-Through)

    Hello,
I was wondering if it's possible have a matrix which shows total credits by month and have drill-down groupings to display the invoice numbers for each credit.  Then, once the drill-down is expanded for a particular month, be able to click on the invoice
number and have another table under the matrix display the details of the invoice.
I don't really want a drill-through because that opens a different report in the window, what I want to be able to do is stay on the main report.  I also don't want to drill-into the invoice details from the matrix as that expands the matrix out and
makes it unruly and ugly.  I've been playing with subreports but not able to get what I want out of it.
I hope this makes sense - is there a way to do this in SSRS?
    Thanks!!

    Hi AvenueStuart,
After testing the issue in my environment, we can refer to the steps below to work around the issue:
Create a new table with the details of the invoice under the matrix.
Add a parameter named invoice which get available values from the invoice field in the dataset.
Right-click the [Sum(invoice)] cell to add an action with “Go to report” option, and specify the same report with the parameter below:
    Name: invoice
    Value: [invoice]
Right-click the table to add a filter in the table:
    Expression: [invoice]
    Operator: =
    Value: [@invoice]
If there are any misunderstanding, please elaborate the issue for further investigation.

  • Workaround for HFM Drill-Through when using custom dimensions ( 4) in FDM

    Hi all,
    we have the following scenario:
    - Target Custom 3 is defined as a combination of Target Product and Target Cost Center
    - Target Product needs to be obtained by mapping field "PRODUCT" in the source file
    - Target Cost Center needs to be obtained by mapping field "CC" in the source file
    So,
One approach would be to enable Custom5 and Custom 6 dimensions in FDM, and configure sequence so these two dims are mapped before custom 3 which has a conditional map to get
values from target c4 and c5 (using varvalues...)
The issue here is that drill-through does not work as the sql query for the intersection is looking for UD5x and UD6X as NULL, N, or [NONE], and these two columns have a value as they were mapped.
Trying to solve this issue, we configured C5 and C6 as lookup dimensions so we could create the mapping tables for them although in order to import data from source file fields we used attr2 and attr3. Besides UD5 and UD6, as expected, were not displayed in the Import and Validate/Export grids
Then the idea was to update the work table with attr2->ud5 and attr3->ud6 in a event script (importaction or befprocmap..) so ud5 and ud6 are mapped.
The problem is that we noticed that ud5 and ud6 are not updated from attributes. It seems that as they are configured as lookup dims, values may be mapped but not copied from work table to tdataseg.
If this would work, then after custom3 is mapped we could set ud5x and ud6x to [none] in order the drill-through query to work.
Having all in custom 3 dim and use mappings on combinations is not desired by the customer as they want to keep product and cc mappings separately.
I was thinking to use a dummy location for product and cost center mappings and then emulate mappings using SQL but would like to avoid this.
    Any other suggestion?
    Thanks!

The criteria for mapping C3 is:
    - If Plan = 6 Then Target C3 = SUBACCOUNT
    - If Plan <> 6 AND Account IN range [70000,70999] Then Target C3 = Target CC
    - If Plan <> 6 AND Account NOT IN range [70000,70999] Then Target C3 = Target CC_Target Product
    Fields in the file
    - PLAN
    - ACCOUNT
    - SUBACCOUNT
    - Source CC
    - Source Product
So current solution actually is to put that logic in the import format so:
    - If Plan = 6 Then Source C3 = SUBACCOUNT
    - If Plan <> 6 AND Account IN range [70000,70999] Then Source C3 = "RULE2"
    - If Plan <> 6 AND Account NOT IN range [70000,70999] Then Source C3 = "RULE3"
In the mapping of C3, we managed a simple script mapping checking the source C3
    If source c3 = RULE 2 -> Target C3 = Target CC
    If source C3 = RULE 3 -> Target C3 = Target CC_Target Product
Else Target C3 = source C3 (which is SUBACCOUNT)
C5 (Cost Center) and C6 (Product) are mapped before C3.
In order to make Drill-Through working, we save UD5X and UD6X in ATTR2, ATTR3 so the user can see it, and we set then UD5X and UD6X to [None] so the Drill_Through SQL Query returns the values from FDM. If after loading the user goes to validate step, he will see [None] in C5 and C6 but actually this does not really matter as C3 has already been mapped and is the value to be loaded. If the want to review target product or target cc then they drill down to attribute information.

  • Drill Through Report Parameters from Graph Series Action

    Hi
    Using ReportBuilder 3
I need some help please on passing parameters to a Drill Through Report, when a user clicks on a bubble in a graph.
In context, I have a Tooltip that provides a count of the sysid field, which on mouse over gives the user the correct aggregate for the bubble they are looking at.
    [Count(sys_id)]
So say I have a bubble that I am hovering over, showing a count of two sysid's, when I click the bubble I want to run a Drill Through report that uses sysid as a parameter.  Therefore I want to pass through the two sysid's that the aggregate has identified.
Now if I go to the action tab and select 'Go to report', select my report and add a Parameter, I need an expression that retrieves the sysid's for the parameters.
At the moment I am using the following expression:
    =Split(Join(LookupSet(1,1,Fields!sys_id.Value,"ProjectMaster"),","),",")
This provides the correct string format for the multi value parameter that I have on my report.  The problem is, it passes all the sysid's actively displayed on the entire graph and not just the two that the aggregate has identified in the Tooltip.
Question - Is there a way of building the expression to lookup the two sisid's relevant to the bubble I am interested in, rather than the dataset for the whole graph?
    Many Thank
    Andy

    Hi Tim
The report has two parameters Based on Group Type and then Sub Group Type.
The expression I am using for the drill through parameters is =Split(Join(Fields!sys_id.Value,","),",")
Below is a subset of the dataset with relevant fields and sample values.

    Group   Subtype

  • SSRS Drill through report - Text Box Properties, Action - Go to Report

Apologies for the potentially very basic nature of my question, I am fairly new to using SSRS (using SQL Express 2014) and struggling with creating a drill through report using other reports.  Where the problem is, is when I go to the Text Box
Properties - Action - Go To Report.  Where it says to specify a report, I click on Browse and it only allows me to look in 'Recent Sites and Servers' - I therefore cannot navigate to where my other report that I wish to link is stored.  What am I
missing? Any suggestions appreciated. Thank you

If you dont have the report to which you need to navigate within the same project, you should be using jump to URL option and specify full report server url of the second report with only parameter part replaced by the actual field from which you need to
    pass the value
Another way is to create a linked report for the report to which you need to navigate within the same project  as your first report and then use jump to report option to include the linked report along with its parameters and corresponding values.

  • Drill through reports are not working fine in share point server

I Have a master report with four parameters and child report with two parameters
I deployed these two reports in share point server , my scenario is i am navigating from my parent report to child report using action (Drill Through Report Concept)
First i clicked on parent report it will ask select parameters , i have selected all parameter and click on apply in share point it will display the parent report content .
In parent report i have link to navigate child report . if i click the link it will redirect to child report and displays the child report content perfectly. upto this step every thing working fine now problem is comes to picture
I have back to in my child report when i click the that button it redirects from child to parent
But earlier selected parameters values are lossed and the parent report again asked for me to select parameters
Can you please explain me because we have migratiojn from ssrs report manager to share point .

    Hi All,
Finally i got the solution there is small difference between SSRS Native mode and share point integrated mode
To overcome this issue explicitly we have to change our report expression code for SharePoint Integration mode before deployment. We have to change URL
Preparation code in the expression in report.
    Below is the sample URL
    ="http://<<site url>>/ReportServer/RSViewerPage.aspx?rv:RelativeReportUrl"+"=/ssrs/INT/Report.rdl&rp:parameter1="+CStr(Parameters!parameter1.Value)+"&rp:parameter2="+CStr(Parameters!parameter2.Value)+"&rc:Parameters=True"
The only difference between our SSRS Report manager report expression and share point integrated mode report expression is
    “rp:”
    value prefixed with every parameter.
After fixing this code I am able to see the previously selected values in Parent report below are the screen shots

  • Javascript Problem for Drill Down Action in SSRS Report when integrated to PPS 2010

    Hi all,
I have a SSRS report which is integrated to PPS 2010(Performance Point Services) and it is having a drill down action through Go to URL action(I wrote javascript:void(window.open('xxxxx')) to open drill down report in new window).
This report has 5 parameters and all are multiple valued. Drill down report is opening very well when I open the report form Report Manager for any number of parameters values selected. But when I integrate the same report is PPS and deployed to SharePoint
then it is working only for 23 parameter values selected in PPS filters. If I select more the 23 values in PPS filters then the drilldown report is not opening.
But it is working well in Chrome, I verified in IE and Mozilla, both browsers are having problem.
When I look at Error Console of Mozilla, it is showing a javascript error as "Error: uncaught exception: ReferenceError: window is not defined" but the same report is working well if I select less than 24 filter values.
    Please provide me the solution
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Vasu,
The issue might occur due to the Microsoft security update MS11-100 which limits the maximum number of form keys, files, and JSON members to 1000 in an HTTP request. Here, I suggest that you modify the Web.config file of the SharePoint site as follows:
    <appSettings>
    <add key="aspnet:MaxHttpCollectionKeys" value="10000" />
    </appSettings>
If the SharePoint site uses the port 80, the web.config file of the SharePoint site is located in the C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80 folder.
    Reference:
An ASP.NET request that has lots of form keys, files, or JSON payload members fails with an exception
If the issue persist, please check whether there are any related errors in the Reporting Services log file which is located in <Drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRSXX.<Instance Name>\Reporting Services\LogFiles.

  • FDM drill-through to source data residing in SQL Server

    Hi-
I am trying to create an FDM app allowing for drill through down to the source residing in SQL Server tables. Is it currently possible with a custom integration script which pulls data from the source and some out of the box functionality which traces back to the source data? The drill through stops at FDM work table but I need to be able to see live data in the source. What do I need to do or install to achieve that? Thank you in advance.

Well thats news to me. I know there are some custom solutions offered by partners which can drill back to any ODBC source but I've not seen a Oracle offering. Marketing literature is not always the most reliable source of information :)

  • Drill-Through

    Hello All,
I got two reports developed in obiee. I wanted to create a drill through from report 1 to report 2. I was serching for option but i couldn't find and i searched one the web also didn't get any usefull help either. can anybody guide me to achieve this task.
    using
    oracle biee 11.1.1.6
    oracle database 11.2
    Thanks in advance

    Hi bi_man,
The easiest way to filter report B and show those values would be to use presentation variables.  You also mention that report A is filtered for period, so you already have a prompt for that.  Within that prompt, set a variable P_PERIOD.  In report B, filter the period using P_PERIOD.  You can use a narrative, static text, etc. to show the selected values stored in P_PERIOD.
    Do the same thing for area.  Create a prompt, set a variable, filter report B using that variable.  If you don't want the user to see the area prompt, you can hide it by setting the custom CSS to display:none;

  • Drill through using Ragged Hierrachy from Essbase

    Problem Description
I have a requirement to provide the drill through functionality after drilling down to the lowest level for unbalanced ragged heirrachy but the issue was that
the lowest level grain was shared across different level. This we overcame in RDBMS by introducing skipped ( jumping the all leaf level to the last column) or Psedo balanced
( repeating the leaf level till the last column) and then using the Action link and providing the leaf level member as the parameter.
But now the problem is we need to do the drill through in Essbase sourced cube in obiee where the heirarchy is ragged unbalanced and I cannot change it to skipped / psedo balanced.
Pls. suggest how to achieve the drill through after drilling down to teh leaf level as the leaf level is shared acros sdiffernet levels.

  • Passing different (multi-) values for parameters to drill-through report, based on clicked subtotal in main report

In Report Builder 3.0, I have made a main report in which the user can filter the underlying dataset using three parameters (all multi-value). The report shows totals grouped by these three parameters, as well as a grand total. What I want is to click
on a total, which then opens the drill-through report for the corresponding records. I have achieved this for the grand total; the action in the corresponding text box passes all selected values of the parameters to the drill-through report.
What I cannot figure out is how to make this work right when clicking on a subtotal. When I use the same expression as for the grand total, the same values for the parameters are passed, instead of the subset that apply to the corresponding text box in the
main report. I expected this to work, because Report Builder /does/ correctly calculate the SUMs for the different levels, even though the expressions are the same.
My question is: how do I pass different drill-through (multi-) values for parameters, corresponding to the respective subtotals in the main report?
(FYI: I am using Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 and Report Builder 3.0 .)

    Hello Katherine,
Thanks once more for your quick reply.
I was aware of the textbox action "Go to report", and how to pass parameters in general. My question concerned how to determine the scope of the passed multi-value parameters (to the values that apply to the respective group/subtotal). The article you linked
to is informative, but not a solution to my problem.
A colleague of mine came up with a pragmatic solution: instead of trying to determine the scope of the parameter values, now I "look to the left in the results table". The two screenshots below should illustrate this. (Screenshots are in Dutch. Specific information
    is pixelated.)
Unfortunately, I am not able to post images. Once my account is verified, I will edit them in. For now, I hope the text speaks for itself enough.
[Screenshot: Drill-through parameters - 01: Report Builder tablix with subtotals]
[Screenshot: Drill-through parameters - 02: Textbox properties (selected in screenshot 01) - Action - Go to report]
The first screenshot shows the tablix in the Report Builder. The second screenshot shows the properties of the textbox selected in the first.
Notice that I do not pass parameters for the first two columns, but the actual values. I only pass the parameter (containing /all/ user-selected values) for the third column. In the textbox below the selected one, I pass the actual values for the first column,
and parameters for the last two. In the textbox above the selected one, I pass the actual values for all three columns.
The only (cosmetic) flaw this approach has is that in the drill-through report, the list of selected parameters might show values that do not occur in the (corresponding part of the) results, and only for those parameters for which the main report passes (all
user-selected) parameter values, and not the actual values in the results. The results are correct, though.
If there is a way to directly determine the scope of multi-value parameters for passing to a drill-through report, I would still like know. But for now, this seems to work.

  • Drill Through in EIS

I am having an issue with EIS metaoutline. Below is my scenario,
We have a metaoutline for drillthrough from ASO cube with multiple hierarchies enabled. So by default the dimension becomes 'Label Only' and the dimension data value is inherited from the first member under the dimension. So when the cube retrieval is done the value of the dimension is displayed as the value of its first child but when a drill through report is launched at the dimension level the result is the sum of all the members under the dimension. I have the dimension marked as label only in metaoutline and changed the consolidation for only the first rollup as '+' whereas others as '~' but still for some reason the drill through SQL is considering everything. Is there anything I am missing on this design which I am not aware of or is it a known issue in EIS?

I haven't used EIS for a while, but I would be surprised if drill-through cares about consolidation properties. You might be able to work around it by using custom SQL with a CASE condition on the top-level member.
That said (not sure which version you're on), the 9.3.3 release notes for EIS (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/eis_93300_readme.pdf) state: "When working with drill-through reports for alternate hierarchies, you must create a separate drill-through report for each hierarchy."
