Ive really want to make this game work in linux.. its a great game and its for free! if anyone has any experience with this game please share.
I havent been able to run it either with cedega 5.1 or wine.
Another plus with this game is that It works great for my laptop, on my gma900 graphics card. That is it doesnt require alot of gpu power, yet the graphics are nice.
    cheers
    Jinn

He is thinking of Trackmania Nations, yes.
the commercial versions are called Trackmania and Trackmania Sunrise (+ eXtreme).
I doubt you'll get it working in wine, though..
You could always post a suggestion at www.winehq.com

  • COD4 Not installing in Cedega from AUR

    Hi,
I am attempting to install COD4 on my new system, i am running archlinux with nvidia drivers, i attempt to install COD4 with 7.3.0, and I get the following error:

So everything looks fine there, and as far as i know i have all the needed libs

I generally play games with WINE and Steam, and use winetricks to get some things going in that direction for me, so I did a little search:

So, if I were in your situation, I would run this to fix the problem, hopefully. Maybe you could go in that direction, because I'm not familiar with Cedega.

  • Warcraft3-Problem (Doesn't connect to Bnet)

    Hi!
I am having a strange problem with Warcraft3:
When starting with wine it starts normally but then hangs on connecting to the Battle.net (it says "initiating connection to Battle.net" but nothing happens, no error-message whatsoever.
When starting with cedega (6.0 and 6.02), it starts perfectly normal but crashes after some 10 Minutes of playing. The System itself is not affected at all, i can kill Warcraft3 and work on normally. Other Games (Like Settlers2: Next Generation) work flawlessly for hours.
Does anybody have an idea what could be the problem?
    Thanks in advance, Hauke

  • Ndiswrapper-beyond package

It seems that in the huge upgrade, there was an update for ndiswrapper-beyond, however this driver seems to be compiled with the new gcc and the beyond kernel is still compiled with the "old", which means that i can't modprobe it:
ndiswrapper: version magic '2.6.16-beyond SMP preempt 686 gcc-4.1' should be '2.6.16-beyond SMP preempt 686 gcc-4.0'.
Anyone might have the old package or something?
This kinda annoys me because I am experiencing crash with cedega and other issues with 2.6.17, so I just want to use the beyond.
I have thought about recompiling the beyond package myself with new gcc, but I got some make error + md5sum mismatch.
    Thank you in advance.

Thats all well and good... Unfortunately I cleared the package cache after upgrading (I know I should have at least waited until I knew that everything worked but well... whoops...)
Still, I expect that the testing repository is for... surpise... testing! NDisWrapper blowing chunks shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone who actually bothered to test it. It's fairly apparent that somebody compiled ndis and never bothered to see if it worked or not. I'm sure it was an honest mistake or oversight but it's still annoying. Things should NOT be let out of testing if nobody has in fact tested them. That's just common sense.
All in all, I'll chaulk it up to a mistake on my part. I should have kept the old package of ndis around in case I had to downgrade. It's happened to me before because ndiswrapper seems very, very fragile for me and I've had troubles before.

  • Playing Warcraft 3

i followed the guide to installing wc3 in the wiki
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Warcraft3
and i got up to the Bypassing Copy Protection
the problem is, the current patch when this was written was 1.20e, now it is 1.21
i applied the official 1.21 patch from blizzard but have not been able to find the no-cd patch.
i have the original wc3 cd in the drive (which i bought), i dont know why i need a no-cd patch to make it work, but im sure there is a reason. anyways, is there someone who can help me and/or update the guide in the wiki?

Actually, because I really hate to use my original CD, I found a way that worked arround, but unfortunatly it stoped when they released the 1.21 (Well It doesn't work with my fake CD, but anyway I'll describe what I tried)
First I got Cedega 5.2. At first War 3 was unable to start even with my original CD.
Than as root I wrote this:
    chmod a+xr /dev/cdrom
    chmod a+rx /mnt/cd
    chmod a+xr /dev/cd/cdrom-sr0
And magically It started working (this changes the permissions so that user can read/write on CD which is required for the copy protection to verify) (And I think that after you do this and configure your cdrom drive at winecfg as D:\ Copy protection starts working with wine too, but I didn't tested) But as I said above I really hate to use my original CD so I countinued searching new ways to make War 3 run on Battle.net. After searching on Google I found a way to make a copy of my original disk and then (after I wasted several CDs) I finaly got a working CD that I used as my nocd (which, I know, is extremely stupid) and was happily playing war 3 but than blizzard realiased a new patch, which made me miserable. First something went wrong with patch that it refused to recognize my fake CD as original so I finaly gave up and switched to Win to play.
I also found an other way that worked ONLY with wine (although I claimed to work perfectly with Cedega) and fucked up my Gnome screen brightness (But as I'm switching to KDE now I'll see if it would work better) This shell script used the cracked exe to start the game and then it copied the original exe over the cracked (since the battle.net "Unable to verify game version" error comes from the .exe) and you were able to log on to battle.net... However (since I play with higher brighness than the default) when I quit the game the higher brighness still remained and the only way to fix it was ctrl + alt + F1 which I disliked. I can't find a link for that no cd, but I'm share it's somewhere on the net. If I have any succes with the new patch I'll write.

  • Guild-Wars on Arch

I wasn't sure where to put this thread since there's no gaming section.  But anyway, I want to run guild-wars on my arch laptop.. any suggestions on how to do that?  I saw that it works with Cedega 4.3 but details are sparse.  I don't even really know how to get Cedega if I wanted it.  Anyone have any experience with somewhat complex game installs?  Should I try with wine first?

download the client from guildwars.com and pay for an account at plaync.com (it's the same people who did AO, CoH, LineageII, etc - all of which I just bought online like that)
BTW I did just buy it...
I'm going to play it tonight

  • Doubts and problems with CVS Cedega

Well, first, I want to make a question:
    - If I use wine for playing Warcraft III, for example, I must use the -opengl option, and the image quality is reduced. If I use CVS Cedega (I guess it has DirectX compatibility), Can I have a more quality and performanced game using the DirectX? I have tried to run it in wine without -opengl option. The image quality is better, but my FPS go down from 22 to 5 xDDD
Second is about the Wine installer:
I have followed the wiki: Method 1: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Cvscedega (I don't want to pay for cedega xD, and the Method 2 gives me lots of errors...)
After getting the script I had a ./configure error that I have solved doing:
    cd /root/.WineCVS/sources/cvscedega/winex

  • WoW Cedega/Wine problems with new upgrade

    Greetings.
World of Warcraft had been running perfectly on Cedega in ArchLinux, but Yesterday (Oct 29) I upgraded my system, and now WoW crash in game, and not error message is displayed, only the game freezes.
Also Thunar says libdbus-1.so.2 not found, i looked for it and I found libdbus-1.so.3, I linked it to libdbus-1.so.2 but it did not work.
    Any solution?
P.D. Sorry for my bad english.

You can try using WoW repair tool, but I'm unsure if it works on Linux http://www.blizzard.com/support/wow/?id=aww01669p
Some people suggest to reinstall WoW in wine... First you delete evrything in /home/username/.wine and than run winecfg
There are also some suggestions to delete everything in the folders WDB and WTF
Hope that helps... And I have absolutely no idea why does this happen after update...

Which leads me to believe it's either my poor skills, something missing in my system or something wrong with the code. Since I'm the only one reporting this (here) I tend to think it's my system or me.

  • Question: What is the best platform to run exe files? Wine,Cedega, etc.

I've tryed Wine it takes alot of configuration that I'm not to familiar with. I would love to order a commercial version but my credit is shot for ordering software threw the internet. I wish there was a software store in my mall besides the usual stores. There's not enough support out there for Linux. Is there any good websites that describe the best way to run wine or cause I want to utilize my programs and not just my games.

I've tried both CX office and Cedega, but I don't like that much GUI help...
I prefer the raw wine configuration via regedit and winecfg, also wine is getting better and the configuration method are not that hard.
BTW the apps mentioned by thayer also work flawless under wine
Also if I need application, for which I have no linux alternative, and there is no way to run it with wine (like blizzard torrent file downloader, that Blizzard use when they release something new free for download and didn't run well on 0.9.45 (fixed now, though) I use Vbox)

  • Trying to get Oblivion and Morrowind to work with Commercial Wine

I hope this message is helpful and I hope to get some feedback about what could be improved about my approach. I researched some stuff I desided to do a free trial of Crossover "The commercial Wine" Which is more GUI and easier to configure. I've got Oblivion to install Sound works, graphics are supurb but it is VERRRY SLOW I've heard of Open GL but couldn't find it in the local community repo. Oblivion needs from what I understand is direct3d or the ActiveX that installs with the game disk. If there are any solutions. I'd be glad to hear them.  Does Windows directX hinder the running of PC Games on a Linux system or would it be better to get the latest optimized Linux i686 DirectX?

Does Windows directX hinder the running of PC Games on a Linux system
    Yes
would it be better to get the latest optimized Linux i686 DirectX?
There is none. directx is strictly microsoft stuff.
Wine translates directx calls to opengl calls on the fly.
The easiest way if wine doesn't work is to buy cedega, which would have pretty up to date directx "support".

  • I may be helping Cedega produce a package for Arch... any thoughts?

It is possible I may be helping Cedega produce a *.pkg.tar.gz for their product line. I figured this may be good experience as well as helping out the community, in general. I am aware that some people like Wine and some may like Cedega, in addition. I would like to hear some thoughts on how this would help benefit ArchLinux community. Currently, as I know it, there is only a *.tar.gz file for Archlinux. Which means they have to compile it in order for it to work. However, I feel it would be nice to have a Cedega-<ver>.pkg.tar.gz that people can download. They seemed to be interested in my offer. I wanted to to know what ArchLinux community's opinion, would be, however, before I decide on such an endeavour. All comments are appreciated, of course!
P.S. Should I have a Poll on this?

And, I believe it is the current version. However, on the Cedega forum, not many are aware that it exists for this distro. Perhaps I may just "spread the awareness".
Oops! I just now realized that it's still not in *.pkg.tar.gz format. Does this mean I should continue with my original intent?
There is no reason to offer a pkg.tar.gz file of cedega, that is what the AUR and makepkg is for. You alter the PKGBUILD to however you like and then run the command makepkg in the directory of the PKGBUILD and when its done u will have a compiled binary.
No need for anyone to host a binary package, anyone wanting to use cedega has a computer that is easily capable to compile the program with makepkg.
TO ANY DEV THAT READS THIS: this is what I mean by awareness of the AUR. AUR is the answer to all this OP's questions yet he is unaware of the process to complete such task. Just another friendly reminder.

  • Cedega; can't play any win game

I used it for some long time, and i thought there would not be problems ever. But suddenly cedega stopped working for me, and the reason unknown
I used to launch my games like
    cedega file.exe
And what i got in console is this
/usr/lib/transgaming_cedega/gddb.py:24: RuntimeWarning: Python C API version mismatch for module gddb_parser: This Python has API version 1013, module gddb_parser has version 1012.
    import gddb_parser
    wine: Unhandled exception, starting debugger...
Well, i think the last line is matters something, but i put all the stuff showing to me.
Does anybody know something about it?
    Thanks

You probably issued a system upgrade with that upgraded python and changed some libraries or simlinks. Look at your /var/log/pacman.log to see detailed information about recent upgrades and see if a python package upgrade is a problem. If that is the case just go to your /var/cache/pacman/pkg/ and issue:
    pacman -U older-version-of-the-python-package
If that is not the case post your problem at transgaming forums since they are more likely to know what is causing the issue... (Or some of the users here might know better than me)

  • Cedega on Arch64

I installed arch64 to replace gentoo (amd64) last night and so far things are gone quite smoothly. Today I installed Cedega, on tests it says OpenGL Direct Rendering failed but 3D acceleration passed. I also got some errors to console when running tests:
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
I got geforce 6600gt and drivers installed:
    $ glxinfo | grep direct
    direct rendering: Yes
For games oldie Jagged Alliance 2 (2D) works but Civ4 (3D) doesn't. I was wondering is this 32bit vs 64bit issue or xorg 1.3.0 issue maybe?

I had that problem last week after the installation of arch and lib32-nvidia-utils solved it too.
But today I had the problem again. In terminal I got the error message:
NVIDIA: Direct rendering failed; attempting indirect rendering.
Error: API mismatch: the NVIDIA kernel module has version 173.14.09,
but this NVIDIA driver component has version 173.14.05. Please make
sure that the kernel module and all NVIDIA driver components
    have the same version.
There was an nvidia update the last days, I guess it has something to do with this update. Must there be an update of the lib32 too? Or does anyone have the solution?
