DAG Database Storage Location in addition to Configuring a Proper Backup/Restore Policy

Hello everyone! I have two questions that have LOTS of detail so I'll jump right into describing our Exchange 2010 layout and then the questions:
EXCHANGE SERVERS:
- cvnit-ex01.***.***.*** - Hub,CAS,MB
Database: MBDB1
- cvnit-ex02.***.***.*** - Hub,CAS,MB
Database: MBDB2
- Both exchange servers have one DB and they are both part of the same DAG.
- Another server is the DAG witness server.
- Only two servers in forest.
- Members of CASArray, using 3rd part DNS for round-robin
- DAG failover has been actively tested and works - users with mailboxes on MBDB2 experience less than 5 seconds of an outage if I shut off cvnit-ex02
OKAY, so here is my question/statement. I spent a lot of time on the storage side creating LUNs for each exchange server to hold its edb and logs. For example, on cvnit-ex01:
MBDB1.edb = G:\
MBDB1 logs = H:\
I then also created a separate LUN, assuming I could tell DAG where to store the passive copies of a database on the target server.
"passivedb.edb" = I:\
"passive logs" = J:\
The problem is, I see DAG copied the DB from cvnit-ex01 over to cvnit-ex02's G:\ drive. Is there any way I can configure it to store the copied databse on that separate, designated LUN (I:\ for edb and J:\ for logs)?
The end goal would be for ex01 and ex02 to have four drives EACH: 2 for its primary db and logs, and two for the passive db and logs. Both edb files are relatively the same size and the capacity of the LUNS holding the passive copies is not an issue.
On to the other one...
Is there any step-by-step instruction on how to properly enable DAG backups of databases so that I can use lagged copies and then in turn enable circular logging? Keep in mind that this is a fresh exchange 2010 installation and implementation, and I still
have time before it goes into production. I don't quite understand the whole "need three copies of databases and a lagged copy" ordeal.
Thank you in advance!

for the 1st question: No, that letters must match. If the Database is on the G: drive and you replicate to another server, G: must exist.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd979802(v=exchg.141).aspx
All copies of a database use the same path on each server containing a copy. The database and log file paths for a database copy on each Mailbox server must not conflict with any other database paths.
I was not a big fan of lagged copies in Exchange 2010. Some instructions:

  • Database Storage location using DBCA

I'm trying to create a database. I would like to put the database on drive M and the logs on drive N.
I'm getting that if I want to do it during creation using DBCA I need to define the location on step 11 - Database Storage.
When I click on Datafile I then click on File Location Variables do I change ORACLE_BASE, ORACLE_HOME or both?
When I click on Redo Log Groups I then click on File Location Variables do I change ORACLE_BASE, ORACLE_HOME or both?
Do I do anything with the Control files location?

In that step you got File Name and File Directory menu.
Change the paths in File Directory menu.
Suppose you have create oradata folder in both M and N drives.
    System01.dbf M:\oradata
    redolog01a.log N:\oradata
suggestion:- Please multiplex controlfiles and redo log files.

  • MC44 configuration for 'storage location exclusion'

    Hi all,
I want to know if it is possible to exclude a certain storage location (1006 in my case) from the MC44 u2013 Inventory Turnover report.
By default i can filter results by several parameters like ABC indicator or material type, but i want to exclude all materials in a storage location. Can i configure it to do so?

  • How to pull inventory from a specific storage location

    Hi guys,
I wonder how can i determine which storage location should we pull  the stock from ... We have a plant, warehouse and a storage lcoation (XX01) and now i need to create another storgae location (XX02) for the same plant warehouse... now when i create the order system pulls the componenets from same old storage location (XX01)... even though i have inventory in the new storage location ....can somebody guide me how to pull from new storage location. Thanks much

In addition to helpful hints from other experts, I would like to discuss on other three aspects:
    1.  MRP Run:  This new storage loc is normally operated by production staff before issuing to production orders.  Therefore, some planners do not want to include this stock in the MRP Run.  You can do so by exclude the storage location from MRP (via configuration or material master - set to 1 - Storage location stock Excluded in MRP).  Alternatively, you can plan your replenishment via MRP run by setting with reorder point concept.  You can maintain reorder point and replenishment qty in MRP4 if you create at plant/stor.loc. level and set Sloc MRP indicator to 2 (Stor.stock planned separately).  Then when you run MRP, if stor.loc.stock falls below reorder point, reservration to transfer (311 movement type) is created.  This can be an alternative to the nex point I would like to mention.
    2.  Replenishment:  If you want the production staff to plan replenishment themselves, you can use pull list (MF60).  With the certain setting in the MF60 variant screen, you can create the transfer from store to prod.sloc. or create manual reservation.  Pull list can combine requirements from many production orders, calculate net req. (prod.order reservation - current stock), and perform the replenishment for you.
    3.  ATP:  Your ATP for component can be set to check the stock at the plant level instead of sloc.level by configuration.  You cannot exclude some of sloc. if you check at plant level though.
In terms of material master setup, besides Prod.Sloc.Location in MRP2, you can maintain the stock determination group.  Then, you can add more rules like first from consignment then own stock of sloc. A, then B, then C, for examples.
    Hope it helps.

  • Need to exclude storage location from MRP.

    Hi Gurus,
Is there an option to exclude a specified storage location from MRP at configuration level. But not at material level as in MRP4 view.
We have excluded the stoarge location in config OMIR, however the system considers that stock if the same is not excluded in MRP4 of that material.
Now, the problem is every time i need to go to the material master of every material  i have to excude from MRP, which is very time consuming..!
Please advise me is there any option in point of view of Storage Location,  just simply  define the storage location to be excluded from MRP run.
    Thanks in advance.
    Naveen.

    Dear,
Yes you can do it though OMIR or MMSC 1-Storage location stock excluded from MRP.

  • LSO 600 Configuration - Central Storage Location for XSLT Files

    Hi,
We are implementing LSO 600 with enhancement pack 2 and I am haiving trouble figuring out what do do with the configuration steps
Enter Address of Central Storage Location for XSLT Files
    and
Enter Address of Central Storage Location for Templates.
The config notes indicate that these can be a directory or network path with the format
    servername\filename\.
As I understand it this is is the address of the file on the Portal Server where  XSLT files and templates be stored. The problem that I am hearing from the basis team is (I am qouting an email from them) "who accesses the share? Is it the server, the client PC or both? We’re running in a linux environment so I don’t have any shares the PC can access."
    Does anybody have any input?
    Thanks,

  • STO Between Storage location configuration

    Hi,
We are using STO configured for Plant to Plant stock transfer.
Now we wish to configure STO between Storage Location
We wish to know whether STO between Storage locations can be used along with STO between Plants.
    We are in ECC 6.0.
    Regards,
    Kiran

    Hi Kiran,
Yes, you can use STO with plant to plant as well as STO with st.loc to st.loc. but the plants have to be differnet plants.
Check the customizing for st.loc. sto in ECC 6.0

  • HU Configuration for Storage Location

    Hi everyone.
In the following point of config, there is something I do not understand.
I hope somebody can explain it to me.
HU Requirement for Storage Locations and Default Values for Deliveries
Are the Vendor and Customer needed in this table?
If they are, what purpose do they serve? What are they needed for?
And again, if they are, do they represent the Plant? or what?
Should they be created with special characteristics?
I know a lot of questions, But I do not understand.....
    Thanks,
    Alain

    Hello Alain,
When you are making the storage location is HU managed, and when you try to execute any IM transactions like stock transfer, transfer posting, system doesn't directly post a material document unlike in regular non HU managed locations.
For example if you try to execute MB1B-311 from HU managed location to non HU location, system tries to create an outbound delivery document. And to create this outbound delivery document you need a customer and this is the place where system gets that customer information. Same is the case for vendor in inbound delivery.
And it doesn't require to create deliveries all the time if you want to execute these inventory transactions. VLMOVE transaction can be used to posting material document without deliveries.. But not all business scenarios will use VLMOVE as it has its own limitations.

  • ATP at storage location level

    Hi Gurus,
Can anyone help me how to check ATP at storage location level in the plant in Order and delivery processing.
I have seen configuration that ATP will happne at the plant level.
    Venkat

    Hi,
Availability Check at Storage Location Level
    Example:
Plant stock (1000 pieces) is made up of the stock from storage location 1 (800 pieces) and the stock from storage location 2 (200 pieces). Requirement 2 in amounting to 500 pieces is to be withdrawn from storage location 1. This storage location currently contains 800 pieces. However, requirement 2 cannot be completely confirmed at plant level as only 300 pieces are available. Therefore only 300 pieces are confirmed for requirement 2. If the system confirmed the full requirement quantity, the availability of the confirmed issue 1, for which the issue storage location has not been specified and which draws on plant stock, would be jeopardized as it would be short of 200 pieces.
If the storage location is excluded from planning or if it is planned separately, then there is no longer the need for an additional check at plant level since stock from this storage location is not contained in plant stock.
If a storage location is excluded from planning or if it is planned separately, the check cannot be activated without a storage location (see Scope of the Availability Check).

  • Plant and Storage Location determination at Item level during Copy control

    Hello Freinds,
We are experiencing issues within Sales Order creation when the line item is referencing a contract. The plant and storage location is being determined from the contract - this should not be done, we have an enhancement in place for sales order plant/storage location determination which is how these values should be determined.
Kindly suggest, if it can be achieved through configuration setting at Copy control level, to avoid the Plant and Storage location determination from Contract in to Sales Order.
    Thanks,
    Anup Bansal

    Hello
You can mention the additional logic of redetermining Plant and storage location whenever copied from contract.
In a sale order, i think you are maintaining a enhancement in prog MV45AFZB & user exit userexit_source_determination.
YOu can maintain the coding at same place.
    thank you

  • Use of Vendor and Customer in 'Define Shipping Data for Storage Location"

Under the stock transfer order configuration, there is a IMG step <b>"Define Shipping Data for Storage Location".</b>
In this at storage location level, we can assign, sales org/distribution channel, division and VENDOR and CUSTOMER to storage location.
The customer number is used a sold-to-party in outbound deliveries.
<b>But I am not able to figure out what's the use of VENDOR number we are specifying in this step.</b>
If I am assiging the VENDOR Number here to every storage location, then when I am creating cross-company code Stock transport order, which vendor code I will select the one assigned to PLANT or one Assigned to Storage location.
<b>Also I need to know what vendor account group I will use for creating this storage location vendor.</b>  I have more than one storage locations) under one plant. Soif I used account group as "0007" plant, SAP doesn't allow me to assigne one plant code to 2 vendors and in vendor master on 'additional purchasing data' screen I am not seeing storage location field, it has only 'PLANT' field.
    <b>So I need to know-
    1. Which account group to use for creating storage location vendor
    2. What's the ultimaye use of this vendor code
    3. What vendor # I will use while creating cross-company PO (one for plant or one for storage location.</b>
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Define Shipping Data
Here in this step you maintain the customer number of the receiving plant. This customer number is used in SD shipping processing to identify the goods recipient (ship-to party) if stock transfer to be carried out with an SD delivery
A goods receipt can be planned in the receiving plant.
You can enter a vendor (transport vendor) in the stock transport order
In IMG step "Define Shipping Data for Storage Location".
You can assign sales org/distribution channel, division and VENDOR and CUSTOMER to storage location through Plant only.Means this Vendor is created for entering in the STO .This vendor is created for the the Plant (Supplying Plant)so as u can create STO.

  • Help required !! For MRP at Storage location level

    Hi ,
we need to have separate MRP fro two storage locations with direct procurement from Storage locations. Right now we have MRP run at Plant level for all the storage locations. we donot want the materials in these two storage locations to be planned at Plant level only with Separate storage locations. Plant level MRP will run for the other storage locations .
I have created separate MRP areas for the storage locations & activated MRP for MRP Areas client level. material masters for the two storage locations have been asigned the MRP areas & maintained the MRP area data in material master .
When we run the MD01, the Planned orders are getting created at both MRP areas plus at the Plant level.we donot want the planned orders creation at Plant MRP area level-only at the storage location level for those two storage locations MRP areas.
Can anybody guide me -how to achieve that ? Did we miss any configuration?
I tried to maintain scope of planning & getting error for parallel processing .
Do i need to maintain parallel procesing with servers ?
Pls need your input on this. Any help will be highly appreciated .
    Thank you in advance.
    Regards,
    Krish.

    Hi Krish,
Go to following IMG path and check out your settings -
    IMG>>>Production>>>MRP>>>Master Data>>>>MRP Areas>>>
    (1) Activate MRP for MRP Areas    -
      Is that activated?
(2)Define MRP areas>>>> Do setting s as per Storage Location
    Then run MRP.
    MRP Areas
In this IMG activity you define whether MRP is to be carried out with MRP areas. In addition, you define the MRP areas for each plant in which you would like to carry out this type of materials requirements planning.
The MRP area represents an organizational unit which carries out materials requirements planning independently. The results of the planning run are displayed specifically for each MRP area. An MRP area can include one or several storage locations of a plant or stock with a subcontractor.
You can assign a material to various MRP areas.
Basically, there are three types of MRP areas:
    Plant MRP Area
Initially, the plant MRP area includes the plant with all its storage locations and stock with subcontractors. When you have defined MRP areas for storage locations and for subcontractors and you have assigned the materials, the plant MRP area is reduced by exactly this number of subcontractors and storage locations, as they are now to be planned separately.
    MRP Areas for Storage Locations
You can define an MRP area that consists of a particular storage location by creating an MRP area and assigning the storage location to it. Material requirements for this storage location are then planned separately from the rest of the plant. You can also group several storage locations into one MRP area by creating an MRP area and assigning the storage locations. These storage locations are then planned together.
    MRP Areas for Subcontractors
You can also define an MRP area for each subcontractor. Using an MRP area, it is possible to plan the components to be provided in subcontracting, by defining an MRP area for each subcontractor and assigning the components to be provided. You can therefore plan the requirements to be provided for these components for one subcontractor separately from the usual requirements.
Up to now, MRP at plant level had been carried out. The various requirements were combined in the planning run and procurement elements were created for these pegged requirements with unknown sources.
The introduction of MRP areas enables you to carry out material requirements planning and know the source of the pegged requirements and to be able to distinguish between them. The source of the pegged requirements can be, for example, production on a particular assembly line or a subcontract order.
Material requirements planning for each MRP area allows you to have specific control over the staging and procurement of important in-house production parts and purchased parts for each shop floor and assembly area.
Hope this will give you more idea about the same.
    Satish
