Daily Export

I want to schedule a daily export using the EM on all my databases, but this seems to be impossible?
When you define an export using the EM, you can schedule it, but there is no repeat option? Also in the job tab you can create new jobs, but there is no specific Export job.
What I tried was scheduling an export, and then do an edit of this job. Then you can put it on repeat and safe the job in the library. But when you try to submit the job, you get en 'One or more required job paramters are missing.' error.
Does anyone has a solution for this problem?
Regards,
Stevne

I have the same problem.
So i looked around and found this answer on Metalink by Oracle:
"However please note that Edit is not supported for this job type, only general information about the job can be updated. Therefore you cannot schedule repeated executions for this job type. This is an enhancement request. "
It is ridiculous that they took something out that was always in there. Because they want to push export/import back, they just kinda quit supporting it in this way.
I'm a big fan op RMAN, which they support totally, but with database that are not running in archivelog mode, i'm much more flexibele with a dump file so i can correct little errors (like a dropped table).
A big thanks for nothing goes out to Oracle!

All depends, what do you want to do? Do you have enough space to save a backup and export daily?
In my opinion with one backup is enough to save your database. I'm sorry, I can't agree with that. I've been in situations where the first, second and THIRD backup sources have been unavailable in the event of a Production restore. I had to go to Plan D and cross my fingers (and sweat a lot). That might be overkill, but you should never rely on just one backup method/source for Production data.
Not only that, but, obviously, you can also use an export of the data and import into another database or a schema inside the database in case you need to address any logical corruption. We also use the exports to refresh test databases.
We have many similar sizes of databases and we take exports weekly, instead of daily. An export will be an incomplete backup, obviously, though you can ensure consistency by giving it an SCN to use as a datapoint. You can also run Data Pump in parallel which does speed things up.
If you use it as part of your backup strategy, I'd make sure I had regular backups of the parameter file and the controlfiles (both binary and trace). I'd also make sure I had regular txt files showing the necessary information for the tablespaces and the datafiles which you can use to recreate the files in case you needed to.

  • Unattended Daily Exporting of Query to Flat File

I am VERY new to Oracle and SQL Plus. I've been tasked with automating a query to run unattended daily to export data and store it in a flat file with structured naming convention (CC_MMDDYY.exp). I need to have it be able to an "on demand" query to flat file too. Any help would be appreciated.

search asktom.oracle.com (temporary unavailable right now) for keyword flat file to obtain a procedure to write the result of a given query to a flat file and that's it. You can then schedule it's execution using DBMS_SCHEDULER or execute it on demand.

  • Schedule Daily Export Using Datapump

    Hi
I want to schedule my datapump daily full export using the oracle database features,Such as Enterprise Manager,
    How can I do it?
Please tell me complete Solution, cause I have tried it so many times But...
    Thank You In Advance

    hi hesam
u should better go with the shell scripting and add the script as the cron job at the required time that will be better
    cronjobs :
    http://www.quest-pipelines.com/newsletter/cron.htm
there are some problems that the exp commands will not work in the cronjobs
    try below
or whatever your ksh shell is located.
    # ! / bin / ksh
    # setup the environment
    export ORACLE_SID=TEST
    export ORAENV_ASK=NO;
    . oraenv
    FILE_STUB=/u02/backup/$ORACLE_SID/exp_$ORACLE_SID_full
    exp system/manager file=$FILE_STUB.dmp log=$FILE_STUB.log full=y direct=y
or, alternatively, you can setup your environment in your crontab:
    10 0 * * * (/bin/ksh "export ORACLE_SID=TEST; export ORAENV_ASK=NO, . $HOME/.profile; $HOME/your_export_script_goes_here.ksh")

You should further specify and break down your goals in at least two tasks, one for the export and the other for the ascii dump (that's what it seems to be your goal), and don't expect to get the 'magic' script from the forum.
In order for you to be able to get ascii dumps from a table you should be able to master the SET commands in sqlplus CLI so this tool can SPOOL the output to an ascii text file without 'garbage' in a tabular format, or in a variable size record format.
Next you should schedule it, if you are on unix by means of cron, and if you are on windows by means of the windows scheduler.

  • Export (exp) taking long time and reading UNDO

    Hi Guys,
    Oracle 9.2.0.7 on AIX 5.3
A schema level export job is scheduled at night. Since day before yesterday it has been taking really long time. It used to finish in 8 hours or so but yesterday it took around 20 hours and was still running. The schema size to be exported is around 1 TB. (I know it is bit stupid to take such daily exports but customer requirement, you know ;) ) Today again it is still running although i scheduled it to run even earlier by 1 and 1/2 hour.
    The command used is:
    exp userid=abc/abc file=expabc.pipe buffer=100000 rows=y direct=y
    recordlength=65535 indexes=n triggers=n grants=y
constraints=y statistics=none log=expabc.log owner=abcI have monitored the session and all the time the wait event is db file sequential read. From p1 i figured out that all the datafiles it reads belong to UNDO tablespace. What surprises me is that when consistent=Y is not specified should it go to read UNDO so frequently ?
There is total of around 1800 tables in the schema; what i can see from the export log is that it exported around 60 tables and has been stuck since then. The logfile, dumpfile both has not been updated since long time.
Any hints, clues in which direction to diagnose please.
Any other information required, please let me know.

  • Database automatic export keeps failing after running for about 24h

    Hi,
We have a Sql azure database that is not that big in size (+-4.5 GB) but does have a reasonably large schema (+-12700 tables) Until recently (01 august) we had a daily export scheduled of the database to use as backup. However since the first of
this month, we get daily mails that the export has failed. No other indication is given as to why.
We did notice that the time it took to take the backup increases a lot over time. the time it took to take the export has gone up in one month from 13h to 19h, while the data size of the bacpac file has increased from 647MB to 727MB.  has anyone encountered
a situation like this before? My only guess is that the export takes to long to take.
Are there any other options to take a backup? We never needed a backup up until this point, but we don't want to wait with addressing this issue until we actually need it...

  • EXPORT using OEM10g

    Hi All,
I am trying to export(Instead of running a daily backup using RMAN, I want to schedule a daily export) a Oracle 11gR2 non-ASM database to ASM file system that we have on the server. Basically I want to use ASM file system as the backup directory to backup my Non-ASM database. I have created a directory in ASM file system for this particular database under +FRA but when I am trying to test if this path exists through OEM 10g, it does not recognize the path. I have created a directory from back end oracle database using the "create or replace directory command" but still OEM doesn't recognize the path. Please advise.
    Thank You!

    Hello,
Even if it's a test Database, you should take at least a Cold Backup of it.
For that, RMAN (which is recommended) is not needed, just shutdown cleanly the Database and copy all its files on a safe place.
Imagine that someting happens on the server and you loose a file then, without any Backup, you may loose the Database and have to recreate it from zero.
The export may just help you to get back the data, objects and logical structure, you cannot recreate completely the physical database structure (for instance the redolog files, control files,...) from a dump.
    Else, about your problem:
I have created a directory from back end oracle database using the "create or replace directory command" but still OEM doesn't recognize the path. Please advise.Which error did you get ?

  • Scheduling Export in database control

Hi , I just want to know what is the best way to schedule daily export(datapump) in Oracle for Windows. Should I schedule one export and use the SQl script to schedule a SQL script job or use the host command job to do the Export?
Is there another way to do it? What's the best practice please

    JP,
Do you have EM dbconsole setup on your machine? If you do you can use that to schedule a daily export job using datapump
Here is a link with example how to use Datapump API and you can use DBMS_SCHEDULER to schedule a daily job

  • Backup or Export workspace images

    Hi,
I use APEX 4 and embedded PLSSQL gateway.
I need to daily export all the images of my workspaces (image are in the database) into a folder or a compressed file. I know how to do this manually using the APEX interface, but I want build a script that can do this automaticly.
Can you help me to do this ?
    Regards,

    hi alberto,
i have looked there and am considering that after my post.  but one thing that is a little confusing at this point is that i have been using my new MBPro for a few weeks and have a lot of things set up already.   after posting i checked my new computer and that keychain already has about 60 entries since i've been installing software and going to some websites, etc. for a few weeks...  plus i have made some entries that don't exist in my old computer, such as icloud, and other sites for new things i've set up on my new computer.  so what i'd prefer to do is export some things but not everything, like secure notes where i keep all the serial numbers for the programs and perhaps some passwords, but not everything else from my old computer.  i don't want to transfer the certificates since there will be some that i don't need anymore...
configuring, installing, and transferring things to 10.8 has been unusually difficult.  so it has taken much longer...  anyway, it still seems strange that the export doesn't seem to work in keychain 4 (10.6).  interestinly enough, i thought i might export the keychain data in keychain 7 (10.8) and then try different ways to get data in the data file.  that way if importing a file messes up things, i can revert to what i've saved.  but "export" in 10.8 is grayed out also.  so something is amiss with this export command.
so i guess i have another question now.
has anyone tried to merge the keychain data?  for example if one imports a file, will it overwrite existing entries?  or make duplicates?  i'm assuming that one must import data, like mail does.  it might not work to just replace files in ~/library/keychains, right?
    anyway, thanks for your reply-

  • Automated export appearing on database list

    Hello,
I have an Azure SQL Database (Web edition) with an automated export set for daily exports.
Sometimes (like today for instance) when I log into Azure management portal, I see an additional database listed with the name of my export.
As far as I know, an export should not be listed as a new available database, right?
Why this is happening and how can I fix that?
    Thank you,
    Igor
.NET Software developer for industrial internet and automation system.

    Hello Igor,
Thank you for asking this question.
The Automated Export service creates a database copy of the database you are exporting. It then will perform the export operation on the copy of the database. This is done to guarantee transaction consistency during the export. After the export has completed
the database copy will be deleted.
You can learn more about Import/Export and Automated Export here https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/hh335292.aspx
Additionally if you are interested in our Basic, Standard, or Premium service tiers, they come with built-in restore capabilities.
You can learn more about these capabilities and other business continuity capabilities here https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/hh852669.aspx
If you would like to share more about your scenario or discuss Azure SQL Database's backup and restore capabilities in further detail please email me at Elfish at Microsoft dot com.
Thanks and I hope this helps,
    -Eli
