Dangers of Working on Two Machines?

Are there any inherent problems in maintaining a copy of my iWeb "domain" file on two machines? Do they both get updated every time i open iWeb?
Must the "second" copy be saved in my home folder's Library/Application/Support/iWeb/ folder ??
All is working well ... I just would like to update my iWeb site from my mini ....

Are there any inherent problems in maintaining a copy of my iWeb "domain" file on two machines? Do they both get updated every time i open iWeb?
No, they don't. They are on different computers. You have to devise a strategy to use the same file on both computers.
In the old days I used a floppy to transport a file. Now I use a USB Stick. You can also put the file on the server and work from there. Just double-click to open it in iWeb.

  • Working on two machines - what about the media cache ?

I'm a long time user of FCP just getting my head around Premiere Pro CS5.5. I quite often work on the same project at work and at home. With FCP I simply duplicated the media onto another drive and just transported the project file on a flash disk - obviously rendering of effects would have to be done locally.
Now with Premiere I notice there's the media cache which, as far as I can tell, is not necessarily anything to do with rendering and effects but related and applied to every clip.
So my question is, will the media cache have to be built from scratch on each machine every time I move the project file ?
If so, is there a way to avoid this so that I wont have to wait for it to build the media cache ?
....or on a 30 minute film with 15 hours of original media will this will this be a quick process so as not to be a problem ?
I suppose what I'm really asking is how can I easily work on the same project in different locations ?
    Any help appreciated.

At the moment my media cache is in my user library folder on the system drive.
I would avoid using the system drive for media cache files.
The best would be to have a separate, identically named drive
(D for example) for your media cache.
If you use an external drive for your media, make sure that
you assign the same drive letter to this drive on both systems.
... and then duplicate the lot onto another drive ?
I have never tried to wholesale copy media cache files from one
system to another... preferring to allow Premiere to generate a
    cache for each system.
One other thing. Suppose I capture some more media at work, can I just copy this media into the same location on my home drive and then will the media cache on my home machine just update the new media ?
    Yes.

  • OWA not working on two machines

Office 2013 on home and laptop computer.  Home computer obvisouly external network, laptop computer is on network when at work.  Exchange 2013 is setup and my desktop computer at work also has Outlook 2013 with no issues.  No one else (so
far) has reported any issues as well.
Activesync works, like iPhone, iPad, Windows Mail.
Outlook 2013 is just stuck in disconnected state.  I deleted my mail profile on my laptop and recreated it.  Autodiscover fills in all the information automatically but then I get "The name cannot be resolved.  The connection to Microsoft
Exchange is unavailable.  Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action".  With wireshark, I see the traffic going to and from the internal Exchange server but I don't know what it is since its https tls 1.2, so its all encrypted
    data.
If I click OK on this dialog box, I see my [email protected] for the exchange server which matches the working Outlook on my desktop.  What is different however is on the laptop, under mailbox it appended =SMTP: in front of my [email protected]  I
clear this out and it still doesn't work.  It eventually asks for the password and I enter it in but nothing.
On home computer with the same initial issue, since I did not delete the mail profile yet I checked outlooks connection status and I just see my one server name GUID with a status of disconnected.
On my work desktop where outlook works, when I check outlook connection status I see the first line is disconnected, but the next 30 lines with different GUID's are all "Established".  I did a test autodiscover from off network (home) and
on network (desktop) and no issue there, however msrca test outlook connectivity gives me an error 401 not authorized.
Any idea what to check and where to look first?

Ok I got my home computer and laptop working.
I just closed outlook on my work destkop computer.  Remember I said it had 30+ guid's listed in Outlook's connection window?  Well a week ago we were migrating to room mailboxes, and I was giving myself full permissions to them so I could export
a room calendar to a pst file, then import it back in to the new room mailboxes.  Well that was all done and I removed full access to those mailboxes in exchange, but for some reason my Outlook 2013 client still had all the GUID's listed.  I wonder
if that imposed some sort of connection limit with my account and exchange (makes sense why no one else called about this type of issue).
So with outlook closed, in a few minutes I relaunched outlook on my home computer (I am connected via RDP right now) and it worked fine (only 5 GUID's showing in Outlook connection status).  I did a repair on my laptop's Outlook profile and it loaded
fine as well.  7 GUID's are listed on the on-premise laptop outlook connection status and its downloading the mailbox as I type this.
msrca still gives this"An HTTP 401 Unauthorized response was received from the remote Unknown server. This is usually the result of an incorrect username or password.
If you are attempting to log onto an Office 365 service, ensure you are using your full User Principal Name (UPN)." However I can ASSURE you autodiscover works as I tested both on premise and off premise Outlook 2013 test autodiscover feature.

  • Workflow with two machines

Just wondering how people out there manage working from two machines. I have an MBA that I take on the road and use when I'm sick of my office and want a change of scenery. And, I work on an iMac at my home office.
I'm new to Aperture, and am wondering how people work between a laptop and desktop. How do you sync up files? My MBA hard drive is obviously small, so I'd like to just just keep some core photos on it or maybe even just my most recent photos to work with along with a few older albums.
Any suggestions or techniques for workflow and syncing between machines?

Although various user workarounds exist, the issue of synching your laptop Library with your desktop Library has not (yet) been addressed by Apple. IMO Apple's failure (still) to address this key issue is a travesty; Apple's single-user Filemaker has had that capability since the 1980's.
I suggest going to "Provide Aperture Feedback" under the Aperture menu and requesting that Apple provide single-user synch capabilities for two Libraries (such as the laptop/desktop setups that you and I both have). Note that it is important to specify single-user, two-Libraries, because multi-user scenarios are entirely different solutions that - unlike single user solutions - are usually very complex and expensive.
Laptop drives are now available with up to 500 GB capacity, so you may want to consider upgrading the size of your internal laptop drive and using the removed stock drive for backup in an external case. In addition to added speed, the extra internal drive space can allow temporary internal storage of Referenced Masters while in the field if that is desired; or for help with whatever workaround Library-synch methodology is chosen.
    Some workarounds include
    • Exporting total projects that include Masters from your laptop Aperture for usage on your desktop Aperture.
    • Keeping a single Aperture Library on a large external hard drive, and moving the external hard drive among computers. Obviously not ideal for portability, and substantial slowdown usually occurs because in most cases connection is by some method much slower than SATA. New Macbooks with their limitation to only USB are the worst.
I ask that Aperture users with two Macs go to "Provide Aperture Feedback" under the Aperture menu and advise Apple of our need for single-user synch of two Libraries.
    Thanks!

  • How to work on the same project on two machines at the same time and also exchange progress seamlessly using Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014?

We are working on a film project on Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014. Two editors are working on the same film project (same pproj file ) on two machines. As a result the bin structure and the file structure is exactly the same. We even bought two licenses for the respective machines to make matters simple (at least we thought it would).
Now when we share a sequence between the two machines, every time we have to import and re-link media. Also each sequence import comes with its own set of files, which are actually already present in the project. Basically the new sequences are looking to re-link the media to the original/ source files only and are completely ignoring the file structure present in the project.
In all editing softwares, timeline/ sequence sharing is a very common practise when working on multiple machines. Why is it so tedious in CC 2014? Every time we share a sequence between the two machines the media gets doubled and tripled in the project. As a result the project file size is increasing perpetually. Already Premiere CC 2014 is extremely laggy and slow, and this stupid bug is making it more difficult for us to finish our work on time.
Has anybody ever faced this issue? How do we solve it? We are willing to try out any workflow that you can suggest.

Concurrently working on the same project it requires a specific implementation in all editing programs like Avid's Unity/ ISIS shared storage. That's what you are simply not considering. none of your issues would be any problem if your projects resided on a commonly accessed server or something like that. Check respective hardware solutions.

  • SSO logon tickets not working in two different OS

    HI All,
We have sucessfully implemented SSO logon tickets concept to access a j2ee application through portal on windows OS.
We could able to do the samething on two j2ee instances installed on two different machines on same domain. I mean, deploying our application in one j2ee instance and accessing the application thru portal of another j2ee instance thru SSO logon ticket by adding some configuration steps in Visual administrator given in help.sap.com. This also we did in same OS windows.
But now the problem is, when we try to implement the above scenario in two different OS, say application is deployed on HPUX machine, and accessing that application through Portal from Solaris machine, SSO logontickets is failing. Means we couldnt able to access the application. Both the OS are in same domain only.
What extra configuration steps need to be done in VA, to get work with two different OS?
    Please share ur ideas.
    Regards,
    Satish.

    Hi..
I guess probabaly the internet explorer doesnot accept the sso ticket.
What you can probably check is that the compatability of explorer for the solaris and HP UX os with Windows OS.
Also, please check whether the SSO ticket is getting populated and What error are you getting exactly when the SSO fails and that will give some idea to proceed further
<u>deploying our application in one j2ee instance and accessing the application thru portal of another j2ee instance[/u
What the above mean...how are you deploying ?? what tool ?? which J2EE instance out of the two ??

  • Two VGA monitors don't work with two different G4s, but both work with G3!

I recently acquired two used Power Mac G4s (one of them is a mirrored-door dual-processor that I got from school and was told should work, the other is a Gigabit Ethernet model, and should also work), from two completely different sources. They both turn on (I get a power-on light, I hear HDDs churning, and I get a power chime from one of them, and they react to the usual Mac stimuli, mouse and keyboard light up, reset button works, etc.) but I get *absolutely no video*. The monitor syncs for a second, like it gets a quick signal, then goes immediately back to the "CHECK SIGNAL CABLE" message.
I have tried them both with two generic PC VGA monitors (though they were both kind of old and crummy ones, they work on my G3 and other computers. I've tried the working PCI video card from my G3, that doesn't work, nor does swapping their video cards. They both have Apple-supplied ATI AGP video cards, both with Apple's proprietary ADC interface, though one has only DVI out (with a DVI to VGA adapter that came with it) and the other has a straight VGA port.
The weird thing is that, even though these computers have never, er, met before, they have the exact same problem. The only thing these things have in common is the monitor I'm using. This leads me to believe
The only thing left I can think of is to hook them straight from the DVI port to my HDTV, but I don't have a DVI cable, much less know ANYTHING about DVI. Could it be that these particular VGA monitors don't like AGP video cards, or some sort of weird incompatibility that isn't well known?
I figure if anyone's seen something like this, you guys have. Here are the AppleHistory entries on these machines, if it helps:
    http://apple-history.com/body.php?page=gallery&model=g4giga&performa=off&sort=da te&order=ASC
    http://apple-history.com/body.php?page=gallery&model=g4_mirror&performa=off&sort =date&order=ASC

The software on the hard drives may be set for a video setting that won't work with your monitor. A few things to try (in order):
    1) Reset PRAM. Hold down Cmd-Option-P-R when booting until you hear the third Boing.
    2) Hold down Option when booting. Should show symbol of hard drive, plus a couple of arrows.
    3) Boot from a CD (Install disk or, preferably, Hardware Test Disk).
    4) Safe boot. Hold down "S" just after the boing. Release it when (if?) you see the turning gear.
If it is a scan rate problem, one of these should show some video.

  • Is it possible to configure Time Capsule to work with Time Machine (MBP) and Genie Timeline (PC)

I have an Apple Time Capsule (2TB) and I need to configure it to work with my MBP and Time Machine and also back up my a PC with Genie Timeline Pro 2013 (or any other suggested PC back up software).
Setting it up to work with Time Machine is simple enough but the PC access is proving to be difficult.
    http://www.genie9.com/support/KB/KnowledgeArticle.aspx?KBID=198
I followed the above steps but still can't connect to the network drive.  I have reformatted the TC and will be walking through the steps again.  My concern is that the two different operating systems (Win8 and Mavericks) can't share the same destination drive.
I have created two user accounts with drive sharing activated.  One in my name for my MBP and the other in the name of my partner for her Dell laptop.
Should the Time Capsule be partitioned?  Can it even be partitioned?  When I use Drive Utility it can't see the TC.  The only way to connect to it seems to be via Airport Utility.
On a seperate note the TC Router Mode is set to OFF (Bridge Mode).  I have connected it to the ADSL modem/router (WiFi Off) via the WAN port.  All seems to be well.  Am I loosing any useful functionality by doing this?
The internet settings are set Connect Using DHCP.  I have no issues but I am not really sure what it means and if I should be using other settings.  The ADSL modem/router seems to have all the PPP0E settings.
The WiFi on the TC has been set up with a 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz network as well as a Guest Network.  I then plan to introduce 2 Airport Express (MB321LL/A). One will be an access point for AirPlay and the other a wireless extender with AirPlay.
There is also a Canon WiFi printer that accesses the 2.4Ghz network.  It has an Ethanet port so I am wondering if I should disable the wifi connection and cable it and if so to the TC or the DSL modem/router.

Lion, 7.6.1 firmware and iCloud offers remote access.
    http://www.apple.com/au/support/icloud/back-to-my-mac/
To do it without the iCloud service your issue is static public IP address.. if you have one this is simple to the point of trivial. If not it is very hard, as Apple did not put in a standard dynamic DNS service.. (ensuring you were roped into their cloud accounts). Static IP from your ISP is the best solution.. if it is possible go for it.
Then the actual protocol for access is AFP, so the only device you can do this on is a Mac.
Do you have the TC as the main router?
If you want any other kind of access, or to avoid icloud use vpn.. which teamviewer is a kind of.. but buy a real vpn router, and bridge the TC.. you can then vpn into your network with full security and get windows access via smb..

  • Final Cut Pro to work on two computers simultaneously?

I have two iMac computers running the same version and serial number of Final Cut Pro. But, only one computer can work with Final Cut at a time. I have to log out from FCP to be able to open FCP on the second computer. This limits our ability to work more efficiently on the same project. Is there a solution for this?

I think you're talking about Final Cut Pro 7. You need to ask your questions about that application on the Final Cut Studio forum.
No, there is no solution for you aside from taking the computers off the network.
P.S. If you are using two machines simultaneously you should purchase two copies of the software.

  • Migrate 8.1.6 to 8.1.7 between two machines

on linux rh 7, I have installed 8.1.7. On another machine I have a database called chem on 8.1.6.
How do I export the table structure from 8.1.6 in an sql file that can be used to recreate my structure in the new version?
How do I EXPORT the data...will the file created by the export command in 8.1.6 be compatible with 8.1.7?
Is there a better way to do this?

I hate to answer my own question...
Upgrades of lower versions of Oracle to higher versions can be handled directly by the export/import. I found by going to the usenet oracle group, they had many posts which covered this issue.
If its not on the same machine, and you need to essentially copy you database from one to machine to the other, these are the steps:
    1. In the lower version machine, execute an export. You can do this from the sql*plus prompt, or on many os's just type exp blah-blah, and you will have exported your database. These can be quite large files, and enterprise data could be in the multi-gigabyte size. Obviously, this can be an os issue.
    2. On the other machine with the higher version, create the various empty tables and the same users for the database with the same name as the database on the older version.
    3. Use the import command on the sql*plus or imp blah blah in some operating systems, and this will import your data into the new version of the database. Go have a cup of copy, because this is going to take awhile.
You can probably write a script to do this, but I couldn't find one anywhere...if anybody has one, please post it here.
A faster alternative would be to use jdbc/java and use metadata to create the new tables in the new database, and then use selects on one database, and inserts on another database to insert the data. This only works if the two machines are networked together.
The migration assistant seems to work only if the versions and databases are on the same machine.

  • SSIS package works on one machine and gives conversion error on other machine

    Hi All,
I have 150 + packages, I am fetching data from Oracle (11g) and loading in SQL Server. My problem is all the packages works fine on one machine whereas some of the packages give error "cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode string data types"
on other machine. Please note I have implemented data conversion in all the relevant packages and I have used SSDT for the migration.
My question is why the packages are working on one machine and not on another machine? How can I fix the issue without changing the packages (as it works on one machine) and where should I look for the problem?
    Thank you for your help!!

One more observation, the machine on which all the packages are working reads char, varchar, nvarchar and nchar data type from source as DT_WSTR whereas on other machine it reads as DT_STR and DT_WSTR.
Can you check the datatyype mapping definition file under
    <installationdrive>\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\DTS\MappingFiles
and see if two systems have any difference in file contents for Oracle to SSIS mapping?

  • A two machine cluster

I found this tutorial and followed it. http://vimeo.com/1799266
Only problem is it doesn't work for me.
My two machines are connected via ethernet. I've set up the qmaster system preferences as per video. Qmaster admin shows them up as twice as many machines as there are in the bottom panel. Also I can't select a controller.
Both machine on same OS. I have run the compressor repair app minus the preference delete.
In previous attempts I was able to set up a cluster and even see it in compressor but it either failed or would only run the local machine and the other sit idle.
    Help please someone?

Thanks so much for this response. I exported a reference QT movie retaining my markers and indeed it appeared to work. The messages told me that everything was successful but upon playing the transcoded videos it was obvious it hadn't worked. Both HD and SD versions had long segments of either total white or total green bars. As it seems that compressor splits the video into segments and then reassembles it(?) I'm guessing that means that one of the nodes simply didn't do its job. It didn't do its job twice so again I'm left scratching my head. Would love it if anyone has any suggestions.

  • Keeping two machines 100% synced

    Here is my setup:
    1.  MacBook Pro with 128 Gb SSD boot drive and 1 Tb secondary drive (using a caddy in place of SuperDrive)
    2.  Mac Pro desktop with 128 Gb SSD boot drive and 1 Tb secondary drive (have additional drives in remaining 2 slots, but they aren't relevant to this)
I use the MBP in the field when shooting video and photos to dump files, do quick views and minor edits, even some minor word processing if I am on a client site and need to generate a form, and email/web searches, etc.  At home, I will sometimes use the MBP for full editing in a secondary office.
I use the MP for pretty much the same thing apart from the portable aspect.
    Here's my question/desire/wish:
Is there a method or application whereby I can keep these two machines 100% synced once the MBP rejoins my home network?
Example 1:  I store the video/photo files on the 1 Tb secondary drive of the MBP.  When the MBP arrives home, it should immediately start syncing those files over to the MP's 1 Tb secondary drive in the same folder structure.
Example 2:  I install a new application on the MP.  That application (or files which the installer puts into place on the MP) get automatically installed or copied to their respective locations on the MBP.
Example 3:  I begin editing a Premiere project on the MBP.  I save it, get up and walk to the other office and sit down at the MP and open the same project and pick up where I left off on the MBP.  And vice versa.
Essentially what I am looking for is a "roaming profile" set up but with the redundancy of having two locations for everything, kept in total sync with each other, and reflecting changes as I make them, near simultaneously.
Ideally, and to make matters even more complicated, I would like this same set up to work with an additional machine, my wife's iMac.  She shoots alongside me in the field and we could both dump our files into the MBP, do whatever initial work needs to be done, and then pick up at home, she on her iMac looking at her photos, and me on the MP editing video.
I'm suspecting a possible solution involves a series of Automator scripts and folder actions, but I was hoping to find a more elegant, one-click idea.  Thoughts?  Suggestions?  Flame for requesting an entirely unreasonable feature?

Synchronizing data between devices is a complex issue, and there's no really ideal solution. This comment is an oversimplification.
Mail can be synchronized by storing it on a mail server that uses the IMAP protocol, such as iCloud. The mail stays on the server, so it's automatically in sync with all mail clients.
Several other kinds of data can be synced via iCloud, such as calendars, iWork documents, photos, Safari tabs and bookmarks, and keychains. Some third-party applications can also sync with iCloud, but not many. iCloud is easy to use, for the most part. The drawbacks of using it are, first, that it doesn't sync everything; and second, that some of your private information will be in the hands of strangers. Read the iCloud feature list and privacy notice carefully before deciding whether or how to use it. There should be no privacy concerns with iCloud keychain, because the data is encrypted end-to-end and is not accessible to anyone at Apple—but you have to take Apple's word for that.
A more comprehensive solution, and one that doesn't raise any privacy issues, is to set up an OS X Server on your network and create mobile accounts on your other Macs. You will then be able to synchronize all files in the home folder automatically at logout, or at any other time manually. The main drawback here is that OS X Server would be hard for most non-technical users to set up and maintain. Another is that the synchronization only works with Macs, not mobile devices.
Third-party software such as Unison can also be used to synchronize files over a network. Unison is free, but it's not easy to set up in a way that doesn't lead to conflicts when files are modified on different devices between synchronizations. To synchronize more than two Macs in this way, you'll want to use one as the master, and sync between it and the others.
