DAQmx 8.7 + VISA 4.20 no TCP/IP-Devs in MAX

Hi Group,
i have installed DAQmx8.7 + VISA 4.20 on an Client Workstation.
I can't create an VISA-TCP/IP Dev in Max there is only PXI like
on my developer maschine, unfortunately my scope is connected
by ethernet.
What else do I have to install to have full VISA-TCP/IP-support?
Ingo

Howdy
Ingo,
I'm going to assume that your client workstation runs a NI-VISA compatible operating system like Windows 2000, XP, etc. You will want to create a new TCP/IP Resource in MAX for your scope and then reference this resource in your application. A KnowledgeBase article here explains how to accomplish this.
You may find another KnowledgeBase article, Connecting to an Ethernet Controlled Oscilloscope useful as well.
Warm regards,

  • Built application can't find DaqMX devices with VISA Find Resource VI

My application programmatically finds all of my PXI devices using the VISA Find Resources VI with the following regular expression:
    (PXI[0-9]*::?*INSTR){VI_ATTR_S:LOT >= 0}
This works with my built application on a PXI-8186 controller with LabVIEW installed, but when I created an installer to put it on another PXI-8186 controller without the LabVIEW development system, none of my DaqMX devices show up in my list of VISA resources.  They all show up in MAX, however.  I even tried creating a simple app that just has the routine which gets the resource list.  Ironically, the only PXI device that shows up in the list is a ZT1000PXI made by ZTEC Corp.  I also have a number of PXI-4437s and PXI-6120s in the chassis.  I tried setting the PXI option in MAX to report all PXI devices, not just registered ones, but that had no effect.
This is a Windows 2000 OS running on a PXI-8186, with DaqMX 8.5.0f3 and NI_VISA Runtime V4.1, and LabVIEW Runtime V8.2.1.
Does anyone have a clue why this isn't working? I've tried uninstallng and reinstalling NI-VISA Runtime, but it didn't matter.

    Hi wired,
As I understand it, you built an application in LabVIEW 8.2.1 on a PXI-8186 controller. When you moved to a new controller, one without LabVIEW 8.2.1, the program to find your PXI cards returns only a third party device and not your DAQ cards, despite the devices being visible in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX). You have an Installer for your application that installs the runtime engines for VISA and LabVIEW and the DAQmx driver.  Is my understanding correct?
You mentioned that you had tried setting the PXI option in MAX to report all PXI devices, not just the registered ones. By this, did you mean that you set the VISA option to Show all devices accessible to VISA? If you did not mean this, then I would suggest doing so. In MAX, you can expand the Software tab in the Configuration Tree to the left. By selecting NI-VISA, the VISA options become visible. You should select show all devices accessible to VISA as seen in the attached screenshot.
If you did in fact select this option already, can I ask if you also enabled the NI-VISA tulip Passport? In order to do this, on the VISA Options page, under General Settings, if you select the Passports option a list of checked boxes appear. Select the Tulips option as seen in the second screenshot and then click the Save button at the top of the MAX window. You will then need to close LabVIEW or your application and restart it.
I built a simple program to test this post, and until I followed the above steps, the only devices that appeared were my com ports. After doing this I was able to all of my DAQ cards.
Could you clarify some things for me? When you said that the application works on a PXI-8186 controller with LabVIEW, was this the development machine or just a controller you tried the executable on and it worked? What is in your installer? Is the VISA version on the test controller the same as that on the development machine? And lastly, in MAX, do the DAQ cards appear under DAQmx devices or under PXI systems and can you communicate with them using a test panel?

  • Has anyone used a USB device server with a DAQmx or NI-VISA USB device?

    Hi,
I have an application where I need to communicate with USB devices (some through DAQmx, others through NI-VISA) that will be more than 15 feet away from the controlling PC.  I could use USB-ethernet-USB dongles, but I also see that there are USB-over-ethernet device servers available (like this one: http://www.usbgear.com/computer_cable_details.cfm?sku=USBNET-400&cats=104&catid=187%2C188%2C104%2C65...).  Has anyone used these or similar USB device servers successfully with LabVIEW?

  • No VISA Resources in Labview but all present in MAX

    Hi,
I am unable to find any VISA resources from LabVIEW, however, all NI hardware is available and working in MAX. I have just installed a PCI-8433/2 as well as a NI PCI-8512 CAN/HS Card. As part of the installation I believe MAX was upgraded to version 4.6.2. I will attach the max configuration report for those who are interested. I am working with LabView 8.2. I also uninstalled an agilent GPIB card and as a result the NI-GPIB card is the sole controller and is GPIB0... instead of the agilent card.
I have had a similar problem before that was a result of a corrupted database, but I was unable to find this problem on the forums this time and I am not getting any errors. Just an empty VISA Resource control.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Now that IS odd.
Can you show a couple screen shots from MAX?
First expand the software tab and post a png of the screenshot (I'm not yet convinced you do not have SOME driver issue)
Next select MAX>TOOLS>NI VISA>VISA Options- Wait for the new screen then expand Mysystem General settings and select Aliases.
You could also try "Clear all aliases" from there and reboot.

  • Setting up a VISA for a TCP/IP connection

I am trying to write a program in LabVIEW that will allow me to take data from my LeCroy Wavejet 354 and display it in a LabVIEW interface.  I have installed LeCroy's VICP passport.  I have no problems pinging the device so I know my ethernet connection to the computer is good.  It is not clear as to how I can use VISA to establish the desired connection for TCP/IP connections. In MAX, the remote systems function doesn't detect the o-scope's IP address.  I also tried creating a new device under devices and interfaces in MAX and after "create new" it gave me no option to create anything.   Do you have an example VI that can help me see how VISA can be used to establish this connection or know of some other way I could get this to work?  Thanks for the help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi BYULab,
Alan from LeCroy Tech Support here...    Unfortunately, the "Accepted Solution" isn't correct.
When using the VICP Passport, you cannot create a TCP/IP resource in MAX for the scope. You can create an alias in MAX via the VISA Options... but it isn't necessary at all.   In fact, you don't need to do *anything* in MAX to connect to the scope.
To connect to the scope, simply enter into the VISA Resource control the following string:  VICP::<ip address> (example: VICP::100.100.100.1)
    I've attached a screenshot...

  • Using HTTPS and SSH from LabVIEW VIs

I am currently using custom VIs, built over the TCP/IP LabVIEW VIs, to access to a distant machine with the TELNET protocol, and to access a HTTP server with the HTTP protocol.
In a near future, I will have to use more secure protocols such as SSH and HTTPS, that my VIs will no longer support.
Does the NI Internet toolkit support SSH and HTTPS?
And if it doesn't, what are the solutions?
Using PuTTY with a command line for SSH is suggested by NI and I have already tested this successfully.
Have someone other solutions and an idea for using HTTPS?
    I'm currently using LV 6.1.

  • TLA APplication and NI VISA

    Hi,
I am using LabVIEW 8.2 and NI MAX 4.1
I am using Tektronix TLA7016 with TLA Application 5.1 SP1. In NI MAX I added VISA TCP/IP resources with IP address of TLA. It detects Mainframe and all the modules of the TLA. But while I open TLA Application, TLA APplication does not reconise TLA modules! Does any body use this and found some solution for this? Could you please help me?
    Regards,
    Vishal

    Hi Vishal,
I assume you are using TekVISA in addition to NI-VISA. Correct? If you delete the TCP/IP resource from MAX, are you then able to access your TLA modules using the TLA application? I notice you posted in this thread; Are you still having trouble even with just one vendor's VISA installed? Also, does the "switching" utility you mentioned get rid of this issue? Thanks!

  • Can VISA and DAQ driver work simultaneously?

I can program digital I/O with VISA driver(generated
by VISA driver development wizard ),using ibus. But in Max , it can’t
find Daq device. I update driver ,using daq7.3, my program can’t work.
I trace the error, the VISA function “viFindRsrc” doesn’t return the
correct PXI device number. I want use VISA driver to operate serial
DIO, at the same time , use Daq driver to acquire data. Is it feasible?
Can the E series pci devices work under two drivers ( using VISA and
    Using DAQ )simultaneously?

You can use the MHDDK and NI-DAQ on the same device, but you should only have one inf pointing to them.  If you have NI-DAQmx installed, NI-VISA will be able to find any of the NI devices in your system.  Just go to MAX  Tools Menu >> NI-VISA >> VISA Option ...  Check the box for "Show all devices accessible to VISA."  You can then remove the inf you created with the Wizard.

  • How are VISA sessions managed by executables?

I have noticed that VISA sessions opened in the development environment (Labview version 6.0.2) do not show up in the VISA I/O reference control of compiled executables and visa versa. I assume that each EXE has its own memory space for open VISA sessions. Is it possible to get separate EXE's and the development environment to use the same VISA memory space so that all applications and uncompiled VI's show the same open VISA sessions?

This answer, while correct, doesn't address the issue of some VISA classes and how Labview addresses open VISA sessions. It is quite correct concerning the listing of available resources, that is not the nature of my problem. The heart of the matter is the Open VISA sessions and how they are returned by the "Open VISA sessions.vi" vi in the vi.lib utilities. Also, the VISA reference control does, as you say, display currently available resources (for some classes), but it also displays currently open sessions below a dividing line for those resources not usually displayed.
The best example of this is for the TCP/IP class. Resources of this class are not displayed unless a session for them has been opened.
I have written and compiled an executable tha
t opens a VISA session for a TCP/IP resource. After opening it, the session is displayed in the executable's VISA resource control below a dividing line that separates it from the available serial and GPIB resources. If, however, I have an uncompiled VI with a VISA control open in the development environment at the same time, the open session is not displayed in that VI's resource control. If I run the compiled executable as an uncompiled VI in the development environment along with other VI's containing VISA resource controls, the open TCP/IP session is displayed in all VI's. The same holds true for the "Open VI sessions.vi". Sessions opened by compiled VI's are not returned by this subVI when it is run from outside the executable.
As I stated before, it appears the executable creates its own separate memory space for listing open VISA sessions.
I would like to create a small executable that logs in to TCP/IP resources and makes those sessions available to other VI's that ar
e either uncompiled and running in the devel environment, or are running as separate executables.
    Thanks for your comments

  • Visa write connection has been lost

When I tried to use visa write, sometimes I will get an "1073807194" error on VISA write. "Connection for the given session has been lost" The only way to get rid of the error is to reboot computer, but the communication only be good for a while, then I got the same error again.
Anyone know what it means? I searched the forum, back in 2001, someone post the same question, and the solution was to install NI VISA 2.5.2 But I am using LV8, NI VISA is 3.4 now.
    Thanks,

    Hi DGU,
I'm assuming that you are using VISA to communicate over TCP/IP.  This error is indicating that a connection has been lost with the network.  You can enable or disable this keep-alive checking using a VISA property node.  Here's a link to the LabVIEW 8 Help information on how to use this:
    http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/371361A-01/lvvisaprop/tcp_keepaliveinstr/
There a few more helpful links in the Resources section of this page.  Also, here's a KnowlegdeBase entry that explains how this keep-alive property works.
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/072E607EE6E48AA986256F43005D2969?OpenDocument
Since rebooting fixes this issue, the problem may be with how Windows is handling this network.  Is Windows reporting that the connection is being lost?

  • PXI-6052E Labview VIs

I have a PXI crate with LabVIEW 2009 and a PXI-6052E board in the crate.  I cannot hook the computer to the internet and was wondering what is the fastest way to get basic VI examples for the PXI-6052E.  I just want a couple of the analog inputs to be read in.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,
the PXI-6052E is supported by the NI-DAQmx driver. So if you can find the board in MAX, the driver is installed correctly and you should be able to run the examples, that are installed in the \LabVIEW\examples directory (use the example finder in MAX).
If NI-DAQmx is not installed yet, you need to do this (e.g. by using an USB DVD drive).

    Jochen

  • Error -200220 occurred at DAQmx Create Channel (CO-Pulse Generation-Time).vi:1

    Hello,
Just a couple of days ago I was given a task to complete. To transfer a Labview program from a desktop computer to laptop.
The program itself uses a marlin camera to count the number of seeds.
The transfer was fine I installed Labview 8.2, installed the DAQmx drivers and labview vision.
I then transffered the program files over and ran the program on the laptop in labview and found an ERROR: Error -200220 occurred at DAQmx Create Channel (CO-Pulse Generation-Time).vi:1
I remember that the desktop had a kind of board attached to it: some NI board dont know the model etc.
can this be a problem? I have ensured that the problem is not the camera by checking it in MAX and it works fine.
When i do step by step debugging the problem comes to a VI that uses a palette called DAQmx trigger - data acquisition palette.
    please see the attached picture!!
Is this VI the problem then and is this palette the main problem that is not enabling this program to work??
    thankyou
p.s. Will it be necessary to use the NI board then? if so i dont think it will work on the laptop then as you will need to install the daq card
which can only be done on a desktop i think!!

    Hello Rob W,
Yes I only use a Firewire to connect the camera.
And also i am sure that the device shows up in MAX under NI-DAQmx devices and not under Traditional DAQ. and it works under max.
I am sure the problem is as shown in the image. because i have not connected to the NI board on the laptop and the program is designed to work with the board.
but i have also tried removing the parts in the program that use the board but because of the complexity of the program i.e. wires i had some other problems i think
    must be the wiring etc
    thankyou
