Dashboard not in dock

When I installed Tiger 10.4, I didn't the the dashboard icon automatically placed in the dock. I can use widgets, but I would like the icon in the dock. How do I do that?
Thanks.

The Dashboard application should be in your /Applications folder; just drag it to the Dock to add the icon. But you really don't need to do that. You can just hit the F12 key to bring up the Dashboard and dismiss it anytime.

At least close all your sessions once and refresh your dashboards again, just to be sure that there's no other problem.

    AJL02,
Have you searched for iCal with Spotlight, or is iCal just missing from your Dock?
If you find it using Spotlight, just move it back to the Dock.
    To reinstall iCal:
    1. Insert the Leopard Installation disk into the computer.
    2. The disk will appear on the desktop.
    3. Double click on the "Optional Installs" folder.
    4. Double click on the "Optional Installs.mpkg."
    5. Click on (Continue) in Introduction.
    6. Click on (Continue) in Software License Agreement.
    7. Click on (Agree) to agree to the terms of the software license agreement.
    8. Click on the disclosure arrow ▶ next to Applications.
    9. Select (✓) iCal.
    10. Click (Continue).
    11. After iCal has been reinstalled, download and install the Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update to bring iCal up to the most recent version.

Apple have thrown money in the Blu-Ray camp. And with the success of Blu-Ray in the "format wars", Blu-ray on Mac is inevitable. The real question is when.
That's what they said in 2008!

The startup disk may need repairing ...
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click:  Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If DU reports errors, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you should be able to acces the built in utilities in  OS X Recovery

Since downloading ios 6 my iPhone 4 will not play itunes when docked - plays ok when not on dock.  Has anyone else had this problem?

At least I'm not the only one with the issue. I was looking it up so see if others had the same problem and found a bunch of posts about it. I'm assuming it's not the phone then, it's the software. Should I bring it to the Apple Store? Replacing the phone seems stupid, because the phone isn't really the problem. It's the software! Maybe the iOS 5.0.2 will fix it???  I don't really want to wait though, it's a pain. If a lot of people have this issue it should get Apple's attention. They need to do something to fix it, ASAP!

  • Dashboard not loading widgets + Crashing the Dock

I updated to Leopard yesterday, and today my dashboard stopped working. I can bring it up on my screen, but none of the widgets load - its just their blank skins. I can add more widgets, but they do not load. Also, when I try to close a widget the dashboard+dock just crash. What is going on here?
    Please help?

From what you write here, there seem to be other issues involved. I am not sure if the applications were in reality deleted (perhaps moved?) but there will be no gain in disk space until the Trash is emptied.
You are clearly au fait with the OS (not everyone would be looking inside packets or playing around in Terminal), so I am sure that you are able to make more checks than I could suggest. I know that there have been problems with renaming of Home folders, or accounts losing admin privileges and would tend to agree that there comes a time, when a clean start might be more useful than pulling one's hair out and shouting at the kids or kicking the dog.
The way to get the applications back is to use the packages on the install disks; the way to make sure is to start again and since my Archive and Install (or the erase and install on the eMac -- again my fault) everything has been smooth.

  • Dashboard icon on Dock disappeared

I accidentally deleted my Dashboard icon from the dock and can't figure out how to get it back. I tried finding it in Finder, but I can't find it in Applications (maybe I'm not looking in the right place).
I can still get to the Dashboard with mouse clicks, but would like the icon back as well.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks.

  • Dashboard not running...

I have not used dashboard until now. i tried to open it and it wouldn't open. i dragged the icon from my apps folder to the dock, the arrow was under it, but the application would not "show". i can't see, adjust, use, or anything with dashboard.
    HELP?!
    matt
ps- while i'm here, does anyone know where to find the widget to translate text from english to spanish and vicea-versa?
    thanks for the help!!!

    Matt,
    You are welcome.
You asked: 1. how is it that what worked?.plist files, contain instructions for recording and executing tasks associated with the the application or function that owns them. They can and do become corrupted. If you look in the Preferences Folder you can usually guess what application or function the .plist serves by analyzing the name. com.apple.Safari.plist for example stores information for Safari. When an application malfunctions, deleting the associated .plist file is often the best first troubleshooting step. Proper identification of the appropriate .plist is not always obvious, but if you have a problem with an application take a look in the Preferences folder and try the removal procedure as a first step in troubleshooting.
You also asked:2. is it cool to place these files back in the preferences folder now you think?!Since Dashboard returned to normal after removing the .plist files, this proved that the files were corrupt and it is not cool to return them to the preferences folder. You should trash them. New default .plist files were automatically created when you removed the originals which caused the problem.

  • Dashboard not working

I just updated my computer from a Powerbook G4 to a MacBook Pro for college. I, transfer all my info from one computer to the other and when I go to mess with dashboard and I find that it does not work. I click on the icon (or hit F12) and the only thing that happens is my dock goes away. The screen doesn't dim, there are no widgets, no add widget button on the bottom left corner of the screen, nothing. So i go back to activate my dock (it is in auto-hide mode) and instead of coming back up normally, it comes up from the center and then spreads out, like a bird extending its wings or something.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on or how I can fix this?

i'm having the same problems on my G5.
    i tried deleting (yourHome)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist and dashboard.plist
    i tried repairing disk permissions
i tried these terminal commands "defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled boolean NO" and "killall Dock"
i turned off all of the parental controls (which is when this problem seemed to appear) and even went so far as to delete the guest account that i had been tinkering with parental controls and adding a new guest account, to which the dashboard works fine.
still, nada. when i click for dashboard, it's blank and when i tried to add a widget, it returns me to the desktop.
    i miss my dashboard.

  • DashBoards not loading // Cant create new dashboards

    Odd one here guys
On my win7 machine, I Cannot load or create any dashboards on my production system. Any attempt to creates an app crash and event ID 0 in my windows log.
The description for Event ID 0 from source Application cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:

The console dashboard remains blank as per screenshot below. this happens on two seperate management groups on my machine. however, a third seperate environment renders absolutely fine.
However If I use a jumpoff windows 2012 server with the console installed, everything works fine on all three MGs.
I have tried repairing .Net as recommended in this post
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/systemcenter/en-US/e329b91b-cdf0-453e-ad77-900c30ddfc2b/all-scom-dashboard-views-are-blank
And I have also run the VSAE repair tool without fixing the error.
Has anyone else come across this? What could be the cause? I cannot pinpoint a single point of failure as the dashboards render OK via Server 2012 console, and one Management group renders OK from my win 7 machine.
    its infuriating!

    Hi,
Make sure that your Windows 7 has Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 hotfix installed.
Please try to remove the console and then reinstall it following the below link:
