Dashboards Drill downs

Hello fellowvDashboard Experts,
Has any one created a dashboard with a Drill down from one chart to another and then to another
For example I have a top level pie chart that I working to drill down to a Bar Chart, I want to be able to drill further to another chart from the second
Pie Chart segment --> Bar Chart --> Bar Chart and possibly another Bar Chart
See attached - I haven't got as far as the second Bar Chart ( I want to be able to select the Team - but Team is a series) and show further dfetails for the team.
Any ideas.
Sanjay

Hi Sanjay,
Find the below screen-shots to understand functionality of Drilldown. Firstly to design a dashboard data arrangement is more important, design data as per your requirement.
This is some sample data... Below screenshot is reference of my sample Excel sheet.
Sample Drilldown Dashborad --> Branchwise - Yearly - Monthly - Weekly Sales.
2) Pie Chart - Mapping
3) Bar Chart Yearly Sales Mapping
Bar Chart Monthly Sales Mapping.
Final Line Chart - General Tab Properties.

  • Dynamic hierarchy-level entering dashboard & drill-down

    Hi there,
I have a requirement to create a report which, depending on the user that opens the report, needs to start at a specific level within an organisation hierarchy. Once the user has opened the report (which will be part of a dashboard), he should be able to drill-down the organisation hierarchy from his entry-point down. I've been able to create that report but when drilling-down it doesn't quite work. No matter at which level a user opens the report, when drilling it will drill-down immediately to the lowest level of the hierarchy, skipping (= not showing) intermediate levels.
    Here are the details:
    Organization hierarchy:
    - Org_Level_0
    - Org_Level_1
    - Org_Level_2
    - Org_Level_3
    - Org_Level_4
    - Org_Level_5
    - Org_Level_6
    - Org_Level_7
    - Org_Level_8
Using an InitBlock each user is assigned it's a session variable ENTRY_LEVEL which contains the user's organization hierarchy level (i.e. '5'). For Testuser5 the session variable contains '5'.
I've created the report containing two columns:
    - A dimension column called 'Organization'
    - A measure column called 'Availability%'
In the dimension column I've entered the following formula:
    CASE WHEN VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.ENTRY_LEVEL)='0' THEN DIM_ORGANISATIE." Org_Level_0"
    ELSE CASE WHEN VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.ENTRY_LEVEL)='1' THEN DIM_ORGANISATIE." Org_Level_1"
    ELSE CASE WHEN VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.ENTRY_LEVEL)='2' THEN DIM_ORGANISATIE." Org_Level_2"
    ELSE CASE WHEN VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.ENTRY_LEVEL)='3' THEN DIM_ORGANISATIE." Org_Level_3"
    ELSE CASE WHEN VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.ENTRY_LEVEL)='4' THEN DIM_ORGANISATIE." Org_Level_4"
    ELSE CASE WHEN VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.ENTRY_LEVEL)='5' THEN DIM_ORGANISATIE." Org_Level_5"
    ELSE CASE WHEN VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.ENTRY_LEVEL)='6' THEN DIM_ORGANISATIE." Org_Level_6"
    ELSE CASE WHEN VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.ENTRY_LEVEL)='7' THEN DIM_ORGANISATIE." Org_Level_7"
    ELSE CASE WHEN VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.ENTRY_LEVEL)='8' THEN DIM_ORGANISATIE." Org_Level_8"
END END END END END END END END END
In the Column properties/Column Format tab for the dimension column I've disabled Column Heading Interaction but I've set Value Interaction to 'Drill'.
When opening the report as Testuser5, the Dimension column shows the correct dimension object from that user: Org_Level_5. However when then clicking on the dimensionvalue, the next dimension displayed is Org_Level_8, instead of Org_level_6.
Any suggestion on how to obtain the desired result?
    Thanks!

Check in the RPD in the BMM in the dimension wheater all levels have a key that is set to use for drill down. It seems that only Org_Level_8 (the last level, detail) has key - use for drill down checked. This allow columns on the level to be displayed when driiling from up level to the current one. So maybe this is a reason that you get only Org_Level_8 data when driiling from any level from the case statement.

  • Dashboard Drill Down in Chart with Tab-Linking

    Dear All,
after searching a lot i couldn't find a thread discussing these requirements.
i have 3 views in 3 tabs in one dashboard, i want to drill down from chart in Tab 1 to the Tab 2 which contain the result in a detailed level.
is this kind of drill down possible? and how to achieve this?
    thanks,

thanks for the suggestion sjain ... but I've seen ppl here on the forums saying that it doesn't work in cross tab...So I'm not sure if that can be done but I'll try .

  • Dashboard drill-down behavior

    Hi,
I have a bar graph chart on the dashboard, and I'd like to drill down the chart normally. However, when I reach the lowest level, I want to be able to click on any bar in the chart, and then it'll take me to another pre-built Answer request (or another dashboard) filtered by the values passed over from the bar that I clicked on (i.e. a particular product ID).
Is that possible? If so, how would I go about doing it?
    Thanks.

Unfortunately, this is a request that comes up all too often and it's not one that's easily fixed.
The only real option is to create a navigate function on the bars, navigating to the "next level" of the hierarchy, creating a new report for each level. Effectively faking the hierarchy functionality of OBI. It creates many more reports than should be necessary, but gives you a lot more flexibility to add additional functionality to specific levels of reports.

  • Drill Down in Pie Chart not working in IE8 / Mozilla 5

    Hi Experts,
In my dashboards, drill down feature in Pie charts are not working if the flash is viewed in IE8 / Mozilla Firefox 5.
In IE7 it is working. Is there any browser settings required for this ? Pls suggest.
Drill down in column chart is working fine.
    Xcelsius Version: Xcelsius 2008 SP3 FP 3.5
    Browser Version: Firefox 5.0 / IE 8
    Many thanks,
    PASG

    Hi,
You may want to download Xcelsius 2008 with SP4.
SP4 will support the newer IE 8 (32 bits) for Xcelsius related issue.
As for FireFox 5 that came out last week, this won't be supported anytime soon.

  • Changing the table name while drill down at the dashboard query

I have a DAY fact table that has about 1B rows.
The purpose of this table is to store on hand quantity for each item per day.
On the presentation layer I have a dashboard that will display average on hand qty per year and then user can drill down to quarter/month/week and then by day level to see the actual value at evey level.
Its hard to run aggregation on fly as all my 3 TEMP tablespace 32gb each filled and then I get error can not extent TEMP file.
So I thought I will do the aggregation at the database level and store the aggregated data in another table. So at first dashborad will read this new aggregated table to display qty at yearly. As soon as user drill down to quarter the dashbord should query the actual DAY fact table by filtering for specific year and quarter.
IS it possible? Can I change the table name while I drill down to lower level?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi use,
Yes. This is possible in OBIEE. You need to use Action Links to have navigation between reports. The main idea is to have 2 analysis. One with your aggregated data by year (using your aggregated table), and another one with the rest of the hierarchy and data (using normal fact table)
You add an action link on this report, that can navigate to the second report. showing "the details" (in your case would be the rest of the time dimension).
Please refer to http://www.rittmanmead.com/2010/07/obiee-11gr1-action-framework-and-conditions/ for actions links.
Another way is to create 2 analysis, then go to the 2nd analysis, and filter the column year as "Is based on results of other analysis" and you select there the first analysis. In this case when you click on the year in the first analysis, this value will be passed to the second analysis so you can filter the rest of the hierarchy based on the year you clicked on the first analysis.
    If helpful, assign points.

  • Drill-down and how to change to the correct value in the dashboard title

    Good Morning,
I have a problem on the presentational side, which some of you might have seen as well.
My dashboard page looks like this:
    Dummy Prompt 1: YearFrom
    Dummy Prompt 2: YearTo
    Prompt 3: Item
All three prompts have a presentation variable to show their respective value in the title of the dashboard page.
Below the prompts is the report, which is filtered by the three prompts and contains a column "year" with the option to drill-down.
When I drill-down on a "year" value, a column "month" appears and shows the values of the year by month.
Problem : After the drill-down the title still displays the old "YearFrom" "YearTo" values and not the year I drilled-down on
Question: How to I change the title to the correct year?
Optional: In the drilled-down report I would like to hide the column "year".
    Every idea is appreciated

  • Discoverer Drill down Dashboard

    Hi,
How to create a drill down dashboard?
    Thanks,
    G. Sathya Priya

I agree with Puppethead on this as well.
Many times clients say they must have drill-down, but it many cases, it just confuses end users. It is cool when you have something like gl_companies in a summed up worksheet and you drill on the company to say, the division, then to the account, etc. - and all from just the one company. But again, most end users I deal with don't need that functionality.
They'd be just as happy to have a summary worksheet showing just the total values for, in this case, the gl companies, labelled say ... oh I don't know ... summary?
And then have a detail wroksheet showing much further detail for those companies labelled ... well let's throw the sheets to the wind ... detail?
And this please most end users.
So I would suggest writing a report like described first and then seeing if this is what the end users really wants. If they want drill-down, then fine, but just from experience ... few end users really do (they just like the term - drill down).

  • How to drill down and stay on the dashboard

    Hi:
    OBIEE 11.1.1.6
I created an Action Link that calls another Answers report, and I display the report on a dashboard. The drill down works, but the target report opens in a new window. How can I provide this simple drill functionality but remain on the dashboard?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
by selecting "Drill in place" then it work as your expected way.
steps: just to edit that dashboard --> your dashboard page object section --> properties -->set it as "Drill In Place" save it and then test it.
    Thanks

  • Org Chart Drill Down Dashboard

I have a requirement where I need to have an Org Chart display of data. The requirement is to get the money spend by the whole department. Then when you drill down on the department the dashboard has to display all the managers under that department. When the user clicks on the managers name the dashboard has to display the amount spend by the manager. When the user clicks on the managers name then the individual details has to be displayed.
I am basically looking like an ORG CHARD display dashboard. What is the easiest way to do this? I want the dashboard to shrink if there is no drill down and expand when itu2019s drilled down. Any ideas will be of great help. I want to do this using crystal Xcelcius.

    Hi Srinivasa,
Xcelsius is mainly recomended for pure Dashboard Application where the intention is to view summarized data at a single snapshot. Usually drilldown reports are built using WEBi. These WEBi reports can be linked to the Xcelsius Applications.
This is one way you can acheive your requirement.
Such Drilldown reports are also possible through Xcelsius but a lot of data massaging and parameter maintaining at Excel level is required.
    All the Best.

  • Drill down and Navigation in OBIEE Dashboard

    Hi,
We have a requirement to navigate to another report by clicking the drill down column.
For. E.g. The Existing Drill down in the report is as follows: Country -> Region -> Area.
Now, when the user clicks on Area , it should navigate to other report which will provide more details.
Since, Area column comes only after drilling down(i.e. It does not exists in the Criteria of the report) how to use Navigate option or GO URL to navigate to other report or dashboard.
    This is urgent. Please help...
    Thanks.

  • Drill-Down from several Charts to Same Target

    Hi,
we have built a dashboard with 3 (soon to be 6) column charts and one line chart below. The colum charts represent 6 KPIs aggregated for a year for different warehouses. Each warehouse is a specific series (because we want them to have a individual colors). When the user clicks on a warehouse in one of the column charts, we want the line chart above to show the
For this purpose, we have all column charts store drill-down values to the same two cells:
    - One cell stores the series name (warehouse selected)
    - One cell stores the name of the clicked line chart (we use a single cell with the chart name as source for the first series of each chart. After the first series is selected as the default drill-down, this source and destination seems to be used for every series selected, which might be a bug)
Our problem is, all queries for the charts are loaded at startup. The default drill-downs for all charts are done, and we have a random chart in the drill-down destination. If the user clicks the same chart again, we do not notice this as the value of our target cell does not change. We have tried several solutions for this, but nothing is really satisfactory.
Does any of you have an idea, or a similar dashboard maybe, where the drill-down of several charts (preferably with several series per chart) is stored into a single target chart?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sebastian

    Hi Sebastian,
You cannot have drill downs from different charts to the same target.
As per your scenario you have 3 column charts with warehouses displaying their respective 3 KPI's values. I believe you would have created a series each for available warehouses. If you have selected drill down on load for all the column charts with one single target then at load all the three column charts will try to place the destination of their selected series(based on warehouse selected) to the same target.
And also as you mentioned when the user tries to select the same chart again the target doesn't change, the reason is the same as all the charts are trying to put the destination of the series in the same cell.
Instead of doing it this way, what you could do is to name the series of all column charts the same and have the series name put into one cell. Then based on this series name you can lookup the data for that warehouse and display it in the line chart.
Here again the user has to select the same warehouse in all the three column charts else it wont work.
    Hope this was useful =]
    Thanks & Regards

  • How to reset drill-down column-chart based on map-chart?

    Hi guys,
I'm facing pritty common issue while designing one of my dashboards.  Let me describe a little bit  more:
    1. I have some data extracted from BW using Query as WebService into my Xcelsius spreadsheet.
    2. I have map-chart - regions for some country.
    3. I have a drill-down column-chart, which displays data for a selected region.
At the beginning column-chart displays results for entire country (which, in fact, is not exactly drill-down). The issue I'm fasing is, that in case I select any region and the data is drilled-down into my column-chart, I have no option to show data for the entire county in the column-chart anymore (the only one way is to restart the report).
Are there any possible way to do this, or am I doing a design error while displaying data, which is not drilled-down, into a chart which is intended to display drill-down data only?
Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Ivaylo Mutafchiev,
I understand your problem now. So your column chart data which is coming from the QAAWS query should be having a prompt which is bound to some cell in excel. and your map might be passing the values for prompt isn't it? in your case the map might be passing a region.
All you need to do is put the prompt in the web service for region as a optional prompt. Now pull in a check box or a Push button(name it as reset or something.). while binding the data to the check box or push button (source data) bind it to a blank cell. when user clicks on it , it passes a blank vlaue to the region(this is ur input for region) which will inturn makes the prompt optional for the region web service. which should pull all the data for all the region.
The whole idea lies in somehow passing a blank cell to your  web service whose region prompt is optional.
    Thanks,
    Karthik

  • Dynamically display drill-down column in report

We have two drill-down hierarchies 1. Calendar Year and 2. Fiscal Year.
In a report, we have year column along with some other measures. The year column must show the values based on user's choice - If the user is interested in fiscal then the year must show fiscal year else the year must show the calendar year values.
We thought of the following approach
    1. Use a prompt - which displays Calendar/Fiscal.
    2. Store the user selected prompt value (Calendar/Fiscal) in a variable
    3. In the report, for the year column, use CASE logic on the variable to decide whether Calendar year or the Fiscal year must be shown.
This works well but the drawback is - the year isn't drillable anymore.
Any other alternatives to solve this ?
    Thanks in advance

Are you showing the report on a dashboard or just in Answers? Do you want in-place drilling or can you jump to a new report?
One option is to enable navigation on the year column data and set it to jump a new report - you will need to pass the cell values as arguments in the URL - but if you want to just use plain old drill down (within the same report) I think you will have to use two reports, one for fiscal and one for calendar. Here we can get a little creative and use guided analytics to choose which of the two reports to show on the dashboard based on the selection made.

  • In OBIEE charts, how do you make drill downs work on custom formulas?

I posted this over on Linked In and didn't get an anser, so I'm hoping someone here has an answer.
I'm writing a summary query / chart for a dashboard in OBIEE 10.1 with a drill down (technically it's a "navigation") for more information. This chart breaks down the data by fiscal quarter and by geography (both are columns in the subject area) and I can get this drill down to work just fine. But I also have this chart broken down by some custom calculated fields (CASE WHEN statements) that classify revenue into Forecast / At Risk / Upside etc. (which are not columns or values of columns within the subject area).
When I add a drill down or navigate function onto those calculated columns, I'm getting a full data set ... not a filtered data set for that particular calculated field. (Yes, I have all of the IS PROMPTED filters set up correctly, and yes the formulas in the source and destination queries are identical).
Does anyone have any ideas on how to make the drill down or navigation work on custom formulas?
    Thanks
    Ted
