Dashboards: Wait for a dashprompt selection before executing Answers report

We have some dashboards consisting of a dashboard prompt and two Answers reports. Because the answers reports take a long time to execute without narrowing the selection, we would like BI to only start executing the Answers reports after a selection has been made in the dashboard prompt. Is there any way to achieve this?

Report will run upon navigating.. I dont think we do have an option that overrides this feature...
One thing I can suggest you to overcome the issue:
the answers reports take a long time to execute without narrowing the selection
Default the Prompt with any String that doesnot retrieve any value.. viz. use string Tax for Tax Reports...

Dear All,
I have a requirement where in I have to make sure the user has completed a particular workitem. The workitem is to open the transaction PP02. I cannot make it asynchronous and use a terminating event as I could not see any logical place where I could trigger the terminating event on SAVE.
Now, I am trying to check if the database is updated on save of the transaction and before I do that I would want the workflow to wait for a few mintues.Is this approach correct?
Is there any way I can make the workflow to wait for a few mintues before it starts the next backgound step?
Please suggest.

I think it is better option to use the WAIT Step
as you said that until you save the data in the trabsaction you don't want to proceed further then, try like this
Create a wait step and use the option wait for condition.
define a element in the workflow of type char01( assume TEST) .
Pass X to this element from the transaction when ever you save the data.
and define the condition for the wait step in such a way that until the value of TEST = X do not proceed further.

That would be very hard to do, as I would have to do a lot of things--including moving furniture to get at the back of a receiver--and I'm not at all sure that the receive could accommodate it.
The process is like this: I dial the receiver to the Apple TV input. The light comes on, like it's connecting, but then the Apple TV goes dark before any connection happens. Then I unplug the power cord, wait a few moments, and plug it back in. Then the Apple TV actually connects, but only after a full reboot (setting time, etc).

Portal asking for Login details again while executing the reports

Our Portal is asking for Login details again while executing the reports individually.
The issue is the if i enter the same PORTAL Login credentials, its showing as Authentication failed.

Waiting for the actions to get executed before submitting it

Hi Guys,
We have a peculiar peoblem wherein we are submitting a report via a job and returning to FM .
In the report we have to execute soame actions on the vehicle being submitted.
The problem is submit is doing its job much before the looping on actions and the status is getting changed with which when it is trying to execute actions its giving an error message sayingh vehicle locked by user/Data has been changed meanwhile.
Its very helpful if anyone providea us a way to submit via job but wait till the report is executed and rerun.

If i have understood your problem properly,
You want to submit a job and return and and want to perform the next few statements only after processing for submitted report is over.
ENQUE_SLEEP is a FM, insert it after submit job..return statement.
you can do that by clicking the pattern button.provide some data for seconds, so it will wait before executing next statement and by the time the submitted report will be processed.
Please give reward point to correct answer and close the thread once you get the correct answer.

Multitasking - Have to wait for card to stop before selecting

I have noticed that when multitasking, I have to wait for the cards to completely stop moving before I can interact and touch them. I am unable to select a card while they are animating. Is this normal?

The app cards. I call them cards, I could be using an incorrect term, but the currently running app windows/screenshots/previews that you interact with by swiping up to close the app or touch to select to go into the app.

Wait for user to select the OK button

For my application I cannot use a simple MessagePopup where the user must select the OK button to continue.
I created a new panel with just a text message and an OK button to act like a MessagePopup.
When I call InstallPopup and the Panel box pops up I want to wait until the user selects OK before continuing just like the MessagePopup.
How can I accomplish this?

You can use GetUserEvent () function. In the scenario you have depicted you must have all controls in the popup panel set as "Normal" and only the OK button set as "Hot" (The default control mode). The callback the must handle the panel can be structured like this:

Wait for a file and start execute a scenario process

What is the best way to achive: Wait for a file and then once the file in droped...execute a scenario process.
Sample scenario:
- Admin user ftp the file to a target directory on Unix (export/home/odi/input/files)
- A scheduled scenario package will be running/scheduled daily
- In the above scenario, The first step is to have one OdiFileWait (with options: Dir:/export/home/odi/input/files, File: xxxxx.txt,wait time and loop over..etc)
/* But for some reason OdiFileWait is not waiting/checking for the file presence define in the option. It seems to run immediately without checking the presence of the file and passing it to run the second step) */
- The second step is the "OdiStartScen" (This will run an interface generated scenario) and since the file doesn't exist as a source to load that this interface uses...its fails.
What's the common practice to accomplish this? Appreciate your feedbacks…

Update:
I increased the timeout and Pollint setting in OdiFileWait option and its working fine now.
When the file exists (or) ftp within the timeout the process goes to next step (OK). But, say the file doesn't exists and the timeout finished...how do i set a KO to OdiFileWait and stop/complete by existing at that step itself with out failure.

Have to wait for Time Machine disk before opening or saving

I can't tell you how irritating it is, when it click open or save (any program) , to hear my Time Machine hard disk begin to spool up. As soon as hear that sound, I know that means I have to sit and wait for the Time Machine disk to initialize and get all set before I can save my work. This is majorly ticking me off.
This problem is present on any document i go to save/open.
Why is the OS trying access the Time Machine disk when I try to open or save anywhay??? There's no reason for that! No one is ever opening up and saving to Time Machine while doing normal workflow! The only thing the Time Machine hard drive should be responsible for is backing up!
I swear, I'm thinking about disconnecting my Time Machine disk while I'm working and just reconnect it when I'm away from the computer...it's getting that bad. I shouldn't have to do that. That's ridiculous.

The system will wake ALL hard disks when the save dialog is opened TM is not excepted from this. There is nothing very special a TM volume other than its icon.
There's no reason for that! No one is ever opening up and saving to Time Machine while doing normal workflow!
There are many users who use a TM drive for data other than TM backups.
What make and model is your drive? Some drives have power management controllers which have to be set with disk management software. If you have one of these drives you may need to turn off the hardware power management with this software. The problem here is that some manufactures only provide this software for Windows. Seagate is one such manufacturer

Waiting for approval item does not execute attached procedure !

Hi.
Using 3.0.8 on Solaris.
Create one custom item type and associate one on plsql procedure to be run in place when item is listed within its folder.
Go to folder, add item, look for the plsql result : Good it's working !
After that create an item as a create with approval ACL and come back as folder owner, look at the plsql result : NOTHING !!!
My PLSQL procedure is displaying some attributs in order for the folder owner to approve or not the waiting item. So if wainting for approval items does not execute associated plsql function as they are "waiting" (active=0) then I've got some problems!
Any suggestions ?

1. I checked to see if WS14500013 was defined as general task; it was not and this has has now been rectified. Went through the other workflows also.
Double checked the contents of the tables:
APPROVAL_TABLE, ITEM_APPROVAL_TABLE, ITEM_APPROVAL_OBJECT.
All appeared OK.
Created a simple one line SC. Invoked approval preview and the message: 'Approval step without ad-hoc capability. No preview possible' was displayed. This is odd since WS14500015 and sub-workflows do not use AD-HOC approval. Or am I not understanding this correctly.
Followed Smitas suggestions but to no effect.

[Solved] Wait for external usb disk before mounting partition

Hello,
I have a fresh setup where 3 btrfs subvolumes are supposed to be mounted on /var /home and /opt. Those subvolumes are on an external usb drive (root fs is on a sd card).
During boot, systemd tries to mount /var first but encounter "var not empty, mounting anyway" (probably due to several boot attempts) and then "special device uUID=12f15a3e-cf5c-4bc2-9475-6b4686a30f90 does not exist" where 12f15a3e-cf5c-4bc2-9475-6b4686a30f90 is the correct id of the drive.
From journactl extract it seems that usb drive is not ready yet when /var is being mounted.
Is there a way to make systemd wait for "the disk is ready" before trying to mount /var ?
Information:
- mounting /var in rescue mode works perfectly (mount -o subvol=var /dev/sda /var)
- device is a raspberry but I think it has no link to the issue (except maybe being slow to send power to usb)
- the usb drive is behind a 4 port usb hub (externally powered)
- the usb drive indeed take some time to be powered up
- /home and /opt are mounted in rescue mode automatically a few seconds later

Variable-Selection before running the report

Hi Bex experts,
i have a Web-Report with Navigation block.
Before user run the report he should enter a value for Profit Cetner.
In Query definition, I defined a simple variable ( typ: user entry/default value).
Profit center has an attribute u201CStatusu201D.
We have in system let say more than 1000 profit centers and only 200 of them are with Status u201Cactiveu201D. Like below.

PC2 non-active
PC3 activ

Before user run the report, he clicks on Selection Button for Profit Center and he see there all Profit- Center from masterdata but he want to see only the active Profit -Center for selection.
Is it possible ?

in Backend Level (RSA1) Make STATUS as a Navigational Attibute, insert it as a Nav Attr in Infoprovider
in Query Designer: create a Manual input variable for the Profit center Status - (Nav Attr)
when you execute the report, in the variable screen you will have 2 seperate variables
1) Profit Center
2) Profit Center Status (Nav Attr)

How to run a procedure before executing the report in BI Publisher

I got a requirement when I should execute a procedure before running the report.
Here is my requirement
I have created a temp table and created a stored procedure (temp_proc) which will insert sysdate value.

I have written a query in the Data Model section with a new Dataset as SQL Query Type. Now I want to run this report so that the procedure should be executed and it should insert a value in the temp table. I cannot create a datatemplate instead of sql query as it will consume more time.
I am using BI Publisher 10.1.3.4.2 Standalone version. Please help me out.

better to ask a question about BI Publisher in BI Publisher Forum than here in Reports Forum.
You can create a template in your rtf wich you reference in your header. With BI Desktop in Winword you can use a different header for first page than the others.

Calling an applescript inside a Javascript, waiting for it to complete before moving on.

I've got a handly little applescript compiled as an app that performs an Adobe Illustrator action which exports the current file's artboard #1 to a specific location at 300ppi. I can even call it from a javascript... which is great because I want a javascript that will loop x times, changing text and exporting on each each loop. But, each loop will export a file with the same name... not a problem, I'll rename the file after each loop, and javascript will wait patiently for me the export to complete before moving on to the next step, right? Wrong! Javascript just keeps moving through the script.
So, how do I get Javascript to wait until the AppleScript completes the export? I can't have it wait a specific amount of time...export might take between 2 and 180 seconds.
My ideas:
1) can the applescript fire some sort of event letting Javascript know to move on?
2) Is there a Javascript equivalent to AppleScripts "do javavscript " command, which would allow me to move the Applescript code into my core javascript?
3) I could kludge a stopwatch on the first loop, checking every 10 milliseconds to see if the exported jpg file has been written... then using that as a baseline timer to pause later loops (not great, because the file will exist while AI writes it, and JS may rename it and try to export the second loop before the first is done).

I'd love to stay in one language, but since we're stuck on CS5 here, I have to make do.
My task for the script:
1) pop up a window to collect: 1a) number of copies, 1b) custom text, 1c) choice of three radio buttons -- I can't figure out how to do this in AS besides popping up three separate dialogs, I have it working great in JS
2) loop step 1, write a named text frame with an array value containing a concatenation of 1a, 1b, 1c -- pretty easy in either
3) loop step 2, export the file at a higher than 72ppi resolution with artboard -- currently controlled by an action, can't be done programmatically in either AS or JS using CS5
4) loop step 3, rename the file to match what was written to the text frame -- again, pretty easy in either
In CS5, neither JS or AS have the ability to control the resolution of a jpg when exporting.... just the scale. So an action is required.
My window JS has some of the basic edittext, statictext, buttons, panels elements, not too tricky:

Asynchronous Call - collect values without waiting for sub VI to finish executing

Hi All, I'm relatively new to LabVIEW and for the first time I'm attempting to make use of Asynchronous calls in a program.
What I would like to accomplish, generally, is this: At the beginning of the main vi, begin running a sub-vi in the background. This sub-vi is collecting streaming data from an instrument with a refresh rate of 50Hz. At various points in the main vi I would like to call the instantaneous value of that streaming data from the sub vi, passing it back into the main vi, while allowing the sub-vi (the streaming data collection) to continue running. The reason for this, is that I need to collect the data from this instrument many times wihtin a loop, and the connection initialization to the streamin data instrument is both slow and faulty, and takes too long if I have to initialize the connection, collect the data, close the connection, each time I wish to collect the data. I would prefer to initialize the connection once at the beginning, have a stream of continuous data being collected in the background, and then at certain points within the main vi loop, query that streaming data for its instantaneous value, but allow the streaming data sub vi to continue running.
I recognize that a method to allow the streaming data collection sub vi to run in the background is to use the Asynchronous call method - however, to collect the data I need to use an asynchronous wait, which will only collect the data if the streaming data sub vi finishes executing. How can I collect the data at a particular instant while still allowing the subvi to keep running (thereby minimizing the number of times the connection to the instrument needs to initialized)?
Any suggestions or alternative methods would be great!

This is typically solved in a different way than what you envision. Have your parallel deamon post its current values to a buffer. This could be a global variable (gasp!!) or an intelligent global variable (a VI with loop that executes always once and has an unitialized shift register that can either be initized or read based on a control input). You can add extra code to the read and write selection such as scaling etc to turn the intelligent global into an action engine that does extra things on its different methods.
