Data Guard configuration-Archivelogs not being transferred

Hi Gurus,
I have configured data guard in Linux with 10g oracle, although I am new to this concept. My tnsping is working well both sides. I have issued alter database recover managed standby using current logfile disconnect command in standby site. But I am not receiving the archive logs in the standby site. I have attached my both pfiles below for your reference:

  • When I plug in my iPhone to sync, it starts but does not complete the process and several pieces of data are not being transferred to my iPhone from my MacBook Air.

    Problem:
When I plug in my iPhone to sync, it starts but does not complete the process and several pieces of data are not being transferred to my iPhone from my MacBook Air.
Any help that you can provide in helping my iPhone accurately sync with iPhoto and iTunes will be greatly appreciated.
    Symptoms:
    1)   Sync:  It’s not completing the sync.  Below, I’ve provided all of my settings from the iTunes Summary tab so that you might tell me if I’ve selected any incorrect options.  I prefer to sync the “old school” way – by connecting to the computer – as opposed to syncing over the cloud. Perhaps this is what’s causing the problem? Here is a list of the steps displayed in the iTunes window as the sync progresses:
waiting for sync to start (step 1 of 7)
backing up (step 2 of 7)
preparing to sync (step 3 of 7)
determining apps to sync (step 4 of 7)
preparing apps to sync (step 5 of 7)
importing photos (step 6 of 7)
waiting for changes to be applied (step 7 of 7)
syncing apps / copying 1 of 4 (App name) (step 7 of 7)
    canceling sync
    apple icon
    2)   Photos: I've selected only certain of my iPhoto albums to sync to my iPhone.  All of the albums are correct/complete in iPhoto.  All of the albums are listed on my iPhone, both before and after the sync, but the albums are empty (no actual photos) before and after the sync. Perhaps this is tied to the fact that the sync isn’t completing, but because “importing photos” is one of the steps that the incomplete sync displays, I don’t know.
    3)   Apps: When I launch iTunes and click on the Apps folder under the Library listing, then click on the Updates tab, iTunes searches for any Apps needing to be updated and provides a list.  If I click on Update All, the Apps are successfully updated in iTunes.  But, when I plug in my iPhone so that the updates will transfer to the apps on my iPhone, the updates don’t transfer to the apps on my iPhone and those apps still reflect that they need updating on the iPhone.
    Other Potential Pertinent Info:
The flash memory hard drive on my MacBook Air recently died (perhaps a month or two ago).  Apple had emailed me about a known issue and literally the next day, my MacBook Air crashed.  I installed a new flash memory drive and re-installed everything from a backup off of an external hard drive.  Everything seems to be working fine; it recreated accurately all of my software and data, including iPhoto and iTunes, the pictures and songs (respectively) for which are stored on that hard drive, as opposed to being on the flash memory in the MacBook Air itself.  However, I don’t recall if the start of the sync problem described herein started happening at the same time that I replaced the flash memory drive.  All I know is that the computer is working perfectly in all respects and that even as the sync is failing, it at least says that it’s doing the right things and looking in the right places (e.g., the list of albums on my iPhone matches the list of albums in iTunes, etc.).
    Settings/Status:
    MacBook Air
    OSX v. 10.9
    iPhoto ’11 v. 9.5 (902.7)
    iPhone iOS 7.0.4
    iTunes v. 11.1.3 (8)
    Summary Tab
    Backups (This Computer)
    Options
Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected
Sync only checked songs and videos
    Photos Tab
Sync Photos from iPhoto (429 Photos)
Selected albums, Events, and Faces, and automatically include (no Events)
    Albums – 9 are selected

You need to download iTunes on your computer. iOS 6 requires the latest version of iTunes which is 10.7.

I did notice that something went wrong with the standby creation but i did not get much feedback from Grid Control. The last thing I did was to view the configuration, see output below.

At the end am presented with a review of the selected options and then the standby database is created
Has any body come across a similar issue?
    Thanks,

    Any resolution on this?
I just created a Logical Standby database and I'm getting the same warning (WARNING: No credentials available for target ...) when I do a 'Verify Configuration' from the Data Guard page.
Everything else seems to be working fine. Logs are being applied, etc.
I can't figure out what credentials its looking for.

  • Display Data Guard Configuration

    Hi All,
We have two Windows 2008 VMs with Oracle 11G configured as primary and standby.
This configuration has been defined by a partner who is no longer working for us.
We have broken the correct application of the redo log on the standby when we have not correctly restored some snapshots on those two VMs.
I would like to create a new Oracle server that will become the new standby. For that, I need too :
    - Display the full dataguard configuration to reproduce it on the new server
    - Stop (delete ?) the configuration on the primary server.
We also have the current problem that RMAN refuses to delete old archivelog since they have not been applied to the standby.
Thanks for any help about those subjets,
    Eric FRIGOT

    Welcome to OTN Forums!
Then, you must restore same time snapshots both machines.
If not same time snapshots, then
    1. Restore primary server snapshot.
    2. Create a VM for standby again.
    3. Safety remove DG configuration from Primary server.
    4. Create new standby and DG configuration again.

  • Using RAC One Node as a primary database in a Data Guard configuration

Is it possible to use RAC One Node as a primary database in a Data Guard configuration ?
Oracle doc states: "Supports Oracle Data Guard such that you can run physical or logical standby databases on it or even we can NOT run primary databases on it either if the primary databases have DG"
I guess it is not possible but can you folks confirm?
    Alessio

    Hmmm.... still unclear.
I've submitted a comment which the documentation team should pick up :
"+This sentence : "Supports Oracle Data Guard such that you can run physical or logical standby databases on it or even we can NOT run primary databases on it either if the primary databases have DG"+
    +is not very clear.+
+I can understand it upto the words "on it" but the second part of the sentence, beginning with "or even we can NOT ..." seems mangled and unclear.+
+Can you clarify whether RAC One Node can be used as :+
    +a. A Primary in a DataGuard configuration+
    +b. A Standby in a DataGuard configuration ?+"

DG broker is the way to go. There are only minor points you can't control - like when you have standby redo logs and no redo application delay, dg broker will always start real-time apply.
Also, DG broker is the only way if you want fast-start failover (10gR2 feature).
What is the latency of your nework, especially under load? Add this latency to each commit - will the commit time be acceptable? If not, you cannot use sync.
What version do you use? In 10gR1, there are issues with async - there is only about 50MB buffer, and if you get such backlog, even with async commit will wait for standby. (In 10gR2 this is solved, async will read from disk redo logs.)
NET_TIMEOUT - set it low for sync (so commits won't hang long), higher for async. Default is 180 seconds, Oracle recommends minimum value to 10 seconds. I would start with 10 sec for sync, 180 for sync. The main question is, how reliable your network is, and how long brownouts you want to survive without affecting data protection (with the expense of performance).
Regarding the proper setting of all bells and whistles of archive_log_dest_n - I had best experience with leaving it to dg broker. Just set LogXptMode property to sync/async/arch, and let dg broker set everything else (service, valid_for, affirm, retries...).

If you are on 10.2.0.1 - 10.2.0.3, please see metalink bug 5578157, 5587231 - if sqlnet.outbound_connection_timeout is not set, the lgwr can hang even if net_timeout is set. (Yes, real-world experience:-)

  • Can I make a Data Guard configuration using EM console without Grid Control

Can I make a Data Guard configuration using EM console without Grid Console?
Can I download Grid Console software from Oracle website without cost?

    Assuming this is for 10g,
You could use Oracle® Data Guard Broker
Even you can download Grid Control software for free from Oracle site, you can't legally use it without license.

  • Photos are not being transferred from my iPhone

When I plug my iPhone into my Mac Mini running Lion my photos are not being transferred to my mac even tho the sync completes. The phone is running ios 5
    Help

I'm just clarifying here.  It sounds like you are using iTunes to sync your iPhone, which is fine, but iTunes isn't built to remove the photos off your phone and put them on your computer.  Try opening iPhoto and importing all your photos there.

  • Data Guard: standby archivelog files not the same as the primary archivelog

From reading the Data Guard doco, one gets the impression that that the standby redo archive logs are just a mirror of those from the primary, that the shipped and applied archived redo logs from the primary are what end up in the standby archive directories.
However I have noted that the files are not the same (md5sum is different), which is concerning as using Oracle's archive log naming recommendation, the files have identical names.
Does this mean that the Standbys redologs can not be used as a source of redo logs if one had to restore using a backup of the primary database?
i.e. Can you recover using an RMAN backup of the primary, and redo logs from the standby?

Hi MSK, I agree, that's exactly what I thought. I'm confused though why the logs do not match. Perhaps it is just metadata in the log that has changed, not redo data.
Anyone have any knowledge on why the archivelogs are different on the standby to those on the primary?

    Hello,
I'd like to créate a Data Guard from Cloud Console.
The primary database is a RAC of two nodes, but the standby node is one node and I dont't like to use ASM.
The wizard , ask the target node , the Standby Instance Name, but in the step 3 show this error:
No ASM instance is being managed as an EM target on the selected standby host.
To create a standby database on the selected host, an ASM instance must be added as an EM target.
Is not posible to use from Cloud this mix of storage configuration?

    Hi,
It is recommended to use ASM on both sides. Normally OEM Expects the Current DB structures on STBY OEM.
