Data security concern while using JDBC

My java application connecting to a database to read patient information. Do I have to worry about encrypting the data? I am using oracle jdbc driver. Is there any chance, anyone can read the data on transit?

In theory it is possible. In practice I don't know that there are any recorded instances outside NSA. I've read that there are no known cases of credit card numbers being harvested from plaintext IP traffic.
Your question should really be directed to your employer or the customer.

I created a basic DBAdapter in JDeveloper, got the xsd file, wsdl file, .jca file and the topLink mapping file imported them into OSB project.
Then I used the .jca file to generate a business service, and tested, then the error occurs as described above.

Then I decided to use eis/DB/SOADemo for testing.
For JDeveloper project, after I deployed to weblogic server, it works fine.

You may need to configure the connection settings in the deployment descriptor (i.e. DbAdapter.rar#META-INF/weblogic-ra.xml) and restart the server. This exception is considered not retriable, likely due to a modelling mistake.

Retrieving data from Microsoft Access using JDBC

I noticed that when i tried retrieving data from Microsoft access using JDBC, I realised that it was throwing SQLException when the column names were two word with spaces between them, e.g. Date Birth. But after i removed the space from the column names, my SQL queries were retrieving data. Was it because of the space in between the column names of the table?

Yeah, as far as I know having two word column names isn't allowed in SQL. There might be some way to escape it, but generally it's sensible to avoid it.

Is there a way to retrieve data from database wihout using JDBC while using JPDK?

I want to create a portlet using JPDK with extra render modes and edit/Edit defaults mode too. The detail and show renderer mode jsp's/servlets render data from database. Based on the personalized paramter, the data rendered in detail and show mode will be obtained from database.
The articles in the PDK zip asks not to use JDBC for security vulnerability. Does that mean , I should not use JDBC to connect to db to get data. If not, what should I use ? How do I connect to database ? Is there any class which helps to connect to db without using JDBC ?

I'm not sure what articles you are refering to, because there is no other way to access a database from a java program. Generally, security related docs tend to be a little paranoid (and so they should be), but you have to balance high security against getting the job done.
Obviously, if using JDBC, you need to be careful about protecting your config files because they will contain connection information.

Data records rejected while using Data Manager Packages

Hello all ,
We have configured the dimensions and applications in SAP- BPC 7.5 NW. However , while loading the data into the application using a data manager package , all the records are rejected. The following is the error :
Line 3 :Dimension: P_CC member: SALESTEAM1 is invalid or is a calculated member
Line 3 :Dimension: PRODUCT member: PRODUCTA is invalid or is a calculated member
However , these member are present in the dimensions and are processed as well !! Any help is appreciated .

The message seems to be saying you have a dimension forumula defined for those two cost centers. Please check your dimension members master data and make sure there is nothing defined in a property column called "Formula" for those two members. If there is something populated, then delete the cell contents and save and process your dimension. Then try your data manager load again.

To use Excel as a datasource, you need to defined a named range in the spreadsheet, with the first row containing the column names.

The exception is coming after executing the login code (not login exception).We logged into our application using weblogic user(even for any other user in OID,shared by OIM, is having same behaviour). The code is being executed from integrated webogic server and oim_server is running on a different server under a separate domain.

Cellular data usage spiking while using WIFI

Over the last couple of months, we have noticed a HUGE spike in our Cellular Data usage. We have had an iPhone 5 for a little over a year and have always been under our 2GB limit. However, during October our "usage" spiked to almost 4GB resulting in additional charges. In November, we saw our "usage" spike to almost 5GB. We do not stream music nor videos and have gone as far as to turn off data for apps and images on emails. Additionally, we use WIFI at home with multiple access points to ensure complete coverage. This is maddening and extremely frustrating knowing we have not drastically changed our usage and have most likely decreased our usage based on our awareness of the issue. Verizon's solutions are to increase our plan, turn off cellular data while on WIFI, and wipe the phone. All of which are not acceptable. The suggestion that 4G results in higher data usage than 3G is just ridiculous. I will be watching our usage this month very closely and refuse to pay any overages. If it continues to climb, I will make my voice heard the only other way I know how by walking to another carrier. I have been a Verizon supporter and customer for almost 10 years however, this is unacceptable.

Customer security concerns with using OWC (Beehive)

My customer is currently using strtc for OWCs but I believe that this will move to Beehive very soon.
Their security team has locked down strtc and need answers to some security questions.
When using Beehive for conferencing, can you answer what the support teams will be able to access please?
The type of things that their security team want to know are:
"we need to give them details of what can be done by Oracle Support while we are linked together via this site. Is this something you can gather details together for and send over to me? Type of things they want to know are whether files can be copied from our network / linked pc, can files be dropped onto our network / linked pc, can you explore our network via the linked pc without us knowing etc."

Beehive Web conferencing has similar capabilities to STRTC and the transfer of files between the server and the client is not one of our capabilities - the system allows co-browsing to be enabled to allow the customer to show the support staff the problem in situ and the capability exist for the support staff to control the remote users desktop - with their approval should it be thought valuable to solving the problem. The session can also be recorded.
So we cannot do anything on the remote PC without their knowledge and approval.
File movement between support and the customer is done via the Oracle Support portal not the web conferencing system.

Best strategy for data definition handling while using OCCI

Hi, subject says all.
Assuming to use OCCI for data manipulation (e.g. object navigation), what's the best strategy to handle definitions in the same context ?
I mean primarily dynamic creation of tables and columns.
Apparent choices are:
- SQL from OCCI.
- use OCI in parallel.
Did I miss anything ? Thanks for any suggestion.

Agreeing with Kappy that your "secondary" backups should be made with a different app. You can use Disk Utility as he details, or a "cloning" app such as CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper that can update the clone periodically, rather than erasing and re-copying from scratch.
[CarbonCopyCloner|http://www.bombich.com> is donationware; [SuperDuper|http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html] has a free version, but you need the paid one (about $30) to do updates instead of full replacements, or scheduling.
If you do decide to make duplicate TM backups, you can do that. Just tell TM when you want to change disks (thus it's a good idea to give them different names). But there's no reason to erase and do full backups; after the first full backup to each drive, Time Machine will back up only the changes made since the last backup +*to that disk.+* Each is completely independent.

How to update date field in oracle using jdbc

Hi all,
In my database i have a column LAST_UPDATED_DTTM which is used to store last updated date . when i try to update using the following query stmt
update MD_TABLE set LAST_UPDATED_DTTM= + " new java.sql.Date(c.getTime().getTime()) where PROD_ID=" + msdn ;
' c ' is instance of Calendar Class as below
Calendar c=Calendar.getInstance()
it gives the following error
ORA009:Expected date got number
can anybody please help with this?

can't i do that without prepare statement?If you insist on stuffing that String, then format it in some convenient String format using SimpleDateFormat and call the TO_DATE function in Oracle, so that the database understands your Date too.

Error while using jdbc pool

Hi ,
I tried to create an oracle pool by admin server. When I tried to ping it I got an error something like the cache name is already used.
When I tried to use it in my code I got another error :
'java.lang.ClassCastException: com.sun.gjc.spi.DataSource cannot be cast to oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource'
The pool properties I used are :
Url : dbc:oracle:thin:@servername:port:dbname
DataSourceName: OracleDataSource
ConnectionCacheName: cache2
ConnectionCachingEnabled: true
The code I used to get the connection :

You should not be using com.sun.appserv.jdbc.DataSource in your code.
Neither OracleDataSource.
Change your code from
"poolConnDs = (OracleDataSource)jdbcContext.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/jndi_pool_name");"
to
"poolConnDs = (javax.sql.DataSource)jdbcContext.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/jndi_pool_name");"
