Data size growing in TimesTen

I am migrating data into a TimesTen instance from Oracle 10g, however, the data seems to be getting larger for some reason. I generated a csv file for all tables using a script through sqlplus and I am importing using ttbulkcp. The entire Oracle 10g database is ~40gb. I have allocated 60gb of memory to the TimesTen instance. The 3 largest tables generated csv files of 20gb, 4.2gb, and 1.9gb respectively. What I do not understand is, why is TimesTen exhausting all of its allocated space so quickly? For example, when importing the table of 4.2gb, PERM_IN_USE_SIZE went from about 6gb to over 40gb to complete the import. Can anyone point out a setting I might have missed or perhaps something I could have done wrong?

Some degree of storgae space 'inflation' is expected and normal when moving data from e.g. Oracle DB to TimesTen. Oracle DB internal storage formats are oriented towards saving space while TimesTen storage formats are oriented towards maximising performance. The degree of 'inflation' is influenced by many factors; in typical cases it is of the order of 2x to 3x but in some pathological cases I have seen 7x or more.
Can you post the definitions of the 4.2 Gb table (or cache group) as created in Timesten?

Now prior to setting 10 ,I had set it to 30 cleared changelog.data and restarted .It got generated with 28mb size.
After setting 10 also its the same size of changelog that i could see.

PDF file size grows each time form is saved (with no data changes). Why?

I have an SAP Adobe form (PDF) and we are seeing a difference in the Save behavior between when it is viewed in Adobe Reader vs. the adobe plug-in(?) for Internet Explorer.
When the form is viewed in Internet Explorer, every time the user saves the form the file size grows (even with no data changes in the form - i.e., open the form, hit save). This is not true if the form is opened in Adobe Reader.
The form in question has multiple pages but the only fields directly bound to the SAP source are a handful of identifiers (e.g., order number) and a dynamic table. It appears from our testing that the more entries in the table when the form is created, the greater the size increase each time the file is saved. The table length is not changed after the form is first generated.
Is there a known difference in the behavior of Adobe Reader vs. the browser plug-in which would account for this difference? Our users have Adobe Reader X installed on their machines.

If this is an XFA form, as opposed to an Acroform, you should ask in the LiveCycle Desiger forum or a more relevant LiveCycle forum.

Rectangle size grows while uploading in server

hi all,
i put two table inside a ractangle. the two table has some data. while uploading the same in the server the rectangle size grows automatically but while checking in local it doesn't shows any problem. i am using ssrs 2008r2 for creating report. any
help for problem will be appriciated.

In SSRS, when we add tablix in a rectangle, the rectangle would automatically adjusts to the height of the tablix. However, the space white of the rectangle is invariant. We can adjust the rectangle size to fit the tablix to shrink the space area.

Data size bigger than max size for this type - DB Control

All,
We are using a Java Control to fetch and store data
- it fetches data from a webservice through a webservice control
- it stores data in to database using a database control (stores the data as BLOB)
Here currently we facing an error - weblogic.jws.control.ControlException: ControlException on control databaseManager[Data size bigger than max size for this type: 4516]
The data is definitely not overshooting the max capacity of BLOB which is 4 GB. Initially this process was overshooting the transaction time-out limit of 300 sec but currently this is well within the transaction time-out limit and error happens soon after the webservice returns the data.
a. Are there any known issues with using BLOB's with database controls ?
b. what are the options - if we face this error ?

Hi Sudeep. The problem is that WLW is trying to set the datum as a byte array
and the oracle driver won't take a byte array that big. Please check whether
WebLogic Workshop has any explicit instructions for BLOB data. Otherwise, do
contact official BEA support for your WebLogic WorkShop issue.

a charm! Keep up the good work. Here are my questions:
1. When parsing a stored procedure, I get the message "Data
size bigger than max size for this type". Can you tell me what
causes this?
2. Is there any list of all the error messages that can be
given by Migration Workbench?

With respect to your questions :
1. Could you possibly send [email protected] (that is
our helpdesk, a direct line into development) a little more
information about what you were doing. Also, if you could
send us the stored procedure in question (no data required)
then we could try to reproduce the error in-house and better
evaluate what is going on.
2. The majority of errors ORA-**** are actually generic
Oracle errors and can be found in the Server documentation.
As for our specific errors most parser messages can be
found in the appendix "Parser Reference" from the help system.

Why is Data Size in QT inspector twice the size of the file?

I am not asking this to save space. I am just curious. When playing a dv (captured from camera) clip, I notice that the QT inspector shows data size about twice the size of the dv clip size in file system. Is it because the dv is compressed and QT decompresses?
Actually, on clip in QT shows 22GB which is impossible to fit on a miniDV tape.

You'll notice that a DV Stream file has two tracks (audio and video) of the same size when viewed in QuickTime Movie Inspector or the Movie Properties window of QuickTime Player Pro.
Obviously the audio track shouldn't be the same size as the video track. There are separated from the single stream to allow editing.

From 1 DB:Data size bigger than max size for this type

I am getting error while inserting text file as a string in the table (oracle DB)as :java.sql.SQLException: Data size bigger than max size for this type: 11412
This particular column is Long data type.
The mystry is there is: In one DB instance the code is working fine without error but in other DB instance its giving the following Error:

LPX file size grows every time I save (with almost no changes) - WHY?

Hi all,
I am just now starting to move from Logic 9 to Logic Pro X. I first imported a very simple file from logic nine as a folder project and did not import anything except the file.
- Then, I immediately saved it. took more than 30 secs on core i7 - why so long?
- next I "saved a copy as" file 1a - file size 700k - nice and small.
- that I loaded the first logic X file back in and muted a few things and saved again
- I made some other very minor changes like muting and re-saved three or four times.
Here is what is strange –
Original file = 1 MB
main LX file was 2 megs and each subsequent save gained about 1 MB each time I hit save! So, the final grew to 6 MB after just a few saves!
I checked to see if there was some large edit history file I could purge – but it was empty because all I had done was change some mutes…
Q: what is going on with this large file size growing every time I hit save without any major changes – I would like to know what's going on.

It has to do with undo history, backups, and autosaves. You can see these if you right click on the file and show package contents. Explore in there and you should see these growing in the alternatives folder. I would imagine there is kind of a limit to how many of these there are, but haven't looked to closely at it.

UpdateCharacterStream for LONG column gives SQLException: Data size bigger than max

I have a LONG column and when I call updateCharacterStream via the resultset I get the following error:
SQLException: Data size bigger than max size for this type: 2391
I am trying to update the column with a value that is 2391 in length. The column is defined as a LONG so it is plenty big enough.
What gives?
If I use a UTF-8 database it works OK. But if I use a db that is on the default character set I get the error. There are NO multibyte characters, I just happened to test it against my unicode db and it worked.

This only happens with the thin driver. I am using 8i. It also works OK if the target db is in UTF8!

I get the error when trying to update a LONG column using rs.
updateCharacterStream and the THIN driver.
I get the following error:
Data size bigger than max size for this type: 2050
I really need a solution to this!
I am using 8.1.7i and thought (HOPED) it was going to be fixed in it...

By the way, setCharacterStream works OK from a PreparedStatement, it is just updateCharacterStream that I have the problem with.
