we can connect simple application with database(no server) using Driver Manager class.
can we use Data Source to connect simple application(standalone) with data base? please guide me
thanks in advance

Consider to use JPA (O/R mapping framework) instead of plain JDBC to access the db.
JPA implementations: Hibernate, TopLink Essentials/ EclipseLinkAlthough it's probably a good idea to use and understand the lower-level APIs at least once before using that. Makes it easier to understand when things go wrong. Well, yes, it might help, but probably not absolutly necessary. At least SQL/ DB/ Transaction knowledge is still needed for O/R mapping frameworks, though.
Don't we have to pay for Toplink?I think for TopLink, but not for TopLink Essentials, which is the reference implementation of JPA 1.0 (EclipseLink is the reference implementation of JPA 2.0 (Java EE 6), as far as I know.)

  • XML data source from Java application

    Hello everyone,
    I want to use BI Publisher reports from my Java application.
    1. I have generated xml from database query in Java application.
    2. I have created BIP template sampleReport.rtf
    3. I need to generate PDF report using sampleReport.rtf and generated xml data source.
    How this (step 3) can be achieved using BI publisher web service? If someone has sample code, this would be great.

  • 9iAS: Programmatically change data source for Java/J2ee bc4j application

    Background: We obtain a copy of our customer's live data daily for support issues. We'd like to be able to keep up to date as possible and get files early in the morning. due to the size of the database, it takes a few hours to download and import into our Oracle database. what I'd like to do is use two different schemas/users for the data, alternating on each day so that the loading of one, does not affect the running of the other. To make this seamless, I'd like to have a script perform the changes after the download and restart the server. The issue is how/where to change the data source so that my application will pick it up each time? I'm using an application specific data source from EM.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    If it is intended to be accessible from Reports servlet then you can use "ssoconn" command line option where by the user name and password is stored in OID (Oracle Internet Directory)
    Pls see publishing reports to web document --> command line options -> rwservlet

    The error suggests to me that the package coldfusion.server.j2ee.sql may still contain throw-backs to JRun, even after ColdFusion 10's move to Tomcat. Adobe's Coldfusion team may have to review their design to detect remnants of JRun that would break in Tomcat.

  • Error creating a new Data Source for Oracle connection

    I'm trying to create a new data source connection to our
    Oracle 10gR2 server using ColdFusion Administrator 6.1 Standard on

    I created a System DSN ODBC connection for Oracle. I can use

    The schema/user is system and the password is alpha-numeric, upper/lower case, no special char ...
    As a workaround I was able to add the password to the entry in the datasources.xml file and restarted BI Pub.
    The JDBC is working ... I can test the connection successfully ... just wont save the entry

    If you are trying to connect using ODBC Socket, this Tech
    Note should help:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_18644
    Make sure you are using the correct driver and have all the
    required information correctly entered under Advanced

  • Jndi data source references at deployment time

    hi,
    i have been thinking and trying for days now, so any hint is greatly appreciated.
    we have an enterprise java application with adf faces, bc4j and jpa all in one ear which runs on weblogic 10.3. we want several instances of the same application running on the same weblogic server, with different context-root's and database connections. what I don't know how to do is how I could create an application-wide jndi link to a jdbc data source at deployment time - because the data source jndi name is listed in bc4j application modules and persistence.xml - so one global jndi link for the application would be great.
    e.g.
    jndi names of data sources installed in the weblogic server:
    jdbc/customer1
    jdbc/customer2
    deployment1:
    context-path: /app-customer1
    local data source name: java:comp/env/jdbc/customer
    deployment 2:
    context-path: /app-customer2
    local data source name: java:comp/env/jdbc/customer
    so the goal is, at deployment time, to create a link to jdbc/customer1 for the first deployment and jdbc/customer2 for the second deployment using .. ?
    thank you very much,
    matt

    hi Anand,
    thank you for your answer. It is indeed a part of the solution I would need to apply - resource references in web.xml to have the bc4j application modules reference a jndi data source under java:comp/env. The other part to it is that we have an ejb jar in our jee application, built with hibernate and a persistence.xml file (yes we are crazy enough to use both bc4j and jpa in one ear). The jndi name of the data source specified in persistence.xml would not pick up a resource reference specified in web.xml would it - actually i should just try this out. So that's the 2nd part of the solution.
    cheers,
    Matt

    Now, when I installed CF 11, it installed on port 8500.  However, when I try changing the port in the setup to 8500, I get this error:
    Connection verification failed for data source: csf
    java.sql.SQLException: Timed out trying to establish connection
    The root cause was that: java.sql.SQLException: Timed out trying to establish connection
    I cannot find anything online on how to fix this!  HELP!!!

    Hi,
    Is that SQL Express edition? If so perhaps TCP protocol is not enabled. Is Windows firewall turned on? Check port 1433 is open.
    Normally you would not create a datasource to apache port 8500, that is a web server not database server port.

  • How to do sorting/filtering on custom java data source implementation

    Hi,
    I have an entity driven view object whose data should be retrieved and populated using custom java data source implementation. I've done the same as said in document. I understand that Query mode should be the default one (i.e. database tables) and createRowFromResultSet will be called as many times as it needs based on the no. of data retrieved from service, provided we should write the logic for hasNextForCollection(). Implementation sample code is given below.
    protected void executeQueryForCollection(Object qc, Object[] params, int noUserParams) {
    Iterator datumItr = retrieveDataFromService(qc, params);
    setUserDataForCollection(qc, datumItr);
    hasNextForCollection(qc);
    super.executeQueryForCollection(qc, params, noUserParams);
    protected boolean hasNextForCollection(Object qc) {
    Iterator datumItr = (Iterator) getUserDataForCollection(qc);
    if (datumItr != null && datumItr.hasNext()){
    return true;
    setCallService(false);
    setFetchCompleteForCollection(qc, true);
    return false;
    protected ViewRowImpl createRowFromResultSet(Object qc, ResultSet resultSet) {
    Iterator datumItr = (Iterator) getUserDataForCollection(qc);
    Object datumObj = datumItr.next();
    ViewRowImpl r = createNewRowForCollection(qc);
    return r;
    Everything is working fine include table sorting/filtering. Then i noticed that everytime when user perform sorting/filtering, executeQueryForCollection is called, which in turn calls my service. It is a performance issue. I want to avoid. So i did some modification in the implementation in such a way that, service call will happen only if the callService flag is set to true, followed by executeQuery(). Code is given below.
    private boolean callService = false;
    public void setCallService(boolean callService){
    this.callService = callService;
    public boolean isCallService(){
    return callService;
    protected void executeQueryForCollection(Object qc, Object[] params, int noUserParams){
    if (callService)
    Iterator datumItr = retrieveDataFromService(qc, params);
    setUserDataForCollection(qc, datumItr);
    hasNextForCollection(qc);
    super.executeQueryForCollection(qc, params, noUserParams);
    Issue i have:
    When user attempts to use table sort/filter, since i skipped the service call and set null as userDataCollection, createRowFromResultSet is not called and data which i retrieved and populated to view object is totally got vanished!!. I've already retrived data and created row from result set. Why it should get vanished? Don't know why.
    Tried solution:
    I came to know that query mode should be set to Scan_Entity_Cache for filtering and Scan_View_Rows for sorting. I din't disturb the implementation (i.e. skipping service call) but overrided the executeQuery and did like the following code.
    @Override
    public void executeQuery(){
    setQueryMode(callService ? ViewObject.QUERY_MODE_SCAN_DATABASE_TABLES : ViewObject.QUERY_MODE_SCAN_ENTITY_ROWS);
    super.executeQuery();
    By doing this, i could able to do table filtering but when i try to use table sorting or programmatic sorting, sorting is not at all applied.
    I changed the code like beolw*
    @Override
    public void executeQuery(){
    setQueryMode(callService ? ViewObject.QUERY_MODE_SCAN_DATABASE_TABLES : ViewObject.QUERY_MODE_SCAN_VIEW_ROWS);
    super.executeQuery();
    Now sorting is working fine but filtering is not working in an expected way because Scan_View_rows will do further filtering of view rows.
    Question:
    I don't know how to achieve both filtering and sorting as well as skipping of service call too.
    Can anyone help on this?? Thanks in advance.

    }Issue i have:
    When user attempts to use table sort/filter, since i skipped the service call and storing of userDataCollection, createRowFromResultSet is not called and data which i retrieved and populated to view object is totally got vanished!!.
    @Override
    public void executeQuery(){
      setQueryMode(callService ? ViewObject.QUERY_MODE_SCAN_DATABASE_TABLES : ViewObject.QUERY_MODE_SCAN_ENTITY_ROWS);
      super.executeQuery();
    }By doing this, i could able to do table filtering but when i try to use table sorting or programmatic sorting, sorting is not at all getting applied.
    I changed the code like below one (i.e. changed to ViewObject.QUERY_MODE_SCAN_VIEW_ROWS instead of ViewObject.QUERY_MODE_SCAN_ENTITY_ROWS)
    @Override
    public void executeQuery(){
      setQueryMode(callService ? ViewObject.QUERY_MODE_SCAN_DATABASE_TABLES : ViewObject.QUERY_MODE_SCAN_VIEW_ROWS);
      super.executeQuery();
    }Now sorting is working fine but filtering is not working in an expected way because Scan_View_rows will do further filtering of view rows.
    If i OR'ed the Query Mode as given below, i am getting duplicate rows. (vewObject.QUERY_MODE_SCAN_ENTITY_ROWS | ViewObject.QUERY_MODE_SCAN_VIEW_ROWS) Question:
    I don't know how to achieve both filtering and sorting as well as skipping of service call too.
    Can anyone help on this?? Thanks in advance.

  • Multiple Data Sources and Accessing External Java APIs

    Hi Everyone,
    I have a couple of questions for which I was not able to find satisfactory answers in the forum search, so here they are. I would be really grateful if you can help us out with this.
    1. Accessing two Data Sources in the same report: We have a requirement to access two data sources in the same report, and use the data from one source to run a query on the other source. Our product (OIM) has its own DB. And it integrates with BPEL (another Oracle application) for some functionality. BPEL has its own DB. A few reports need data from both these repositories. For simplicity, consider that we need to join two tables, but one table is in OIM DB and the other is in BPEL DB. I guess such a join is not possible. So to work around it, we would like to run a query against one DB and then use the results to run a query on the other DB, which will basically simulate the join by running two queries.
    Is something like this possible in BIP? If not directly available, can you suggest something which can act as a work around to achieve this?
    2. Calling External Java APIs from BIP: We need to call some external APIs (for achieving Data Security) 'before' we run the queries in BIP. Basically the Java API will specifya set of keys which will have to be used in an 'in' clause. I looked at the section "Building a Data Template" in the BIP User's Guide (http://bipublisher.us.oracle.com/doc/prod_docs/BI_Publisher_10_1_3_3_3/bip.1013/b40017/T421739T434255.htm). As far as I can see, it discusses how to invoke a PL/SQL procedure using <datatrigger> but the usage is not clear to me. Is there any other document that discusses this in detail? Also, I am not sure if it is possible to access Java APIs. Has it been done before? If yes, then can anyone provide some sample code (sample report bits) which I can refer to to get this thing working?
    Also, the data coming from the Java API may not be in the correct format. We may have to do some additional processing (like converting data in a Java Object to something like comma separated list to be plugged into a query). Is that possible? What will be the best approach here?
    Sorry for the detailed post!
    Thanks,
    Jatan

    Yes you should be able to use both - for example using a Flash Variable to pass in the URL of the XML that you want to load.
    FlashVars are only supposed to be passed in on startup and they are defined as part of the OBJECT/EMBED tag for the HTML.
    Actually it was possible to update FlashVars at runtime in Xcelsius 4.5 with certain JavaScript calls but not in Xcelsius 2008 (because Adobe Flex which Xcelsius 2008 is based on does not allow the same mechanism).
    FYI, for those that are interested in Xcelsius 2008 you pass values into/out of Xcelsius at runtime using External Interface and JavaScript instead.

  • Automatic Creation of ODBC Data Source From Within Java App

    Good Day Good People :)
    I was wondering if it were possible for a java application to automatically set up an ODBC data source for a JDBC connection in a windows environment.
    This is the method I call to initialise a connection to my database:
    public void initialiseLocalConnection ()
    url = "jdbc:odbc:ICUDB";
    try
    Class.forName ("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
    icuCon = DriverManager.getConnection (url);
    catch (Exception e)
    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog (null, "Error Creating Connection to ICU Database!\n" +
    "Please set up an ODBC data source pointing\n" +
    "to the icudb.mdb file located in the data\n" +
    "folder of the ICU directory and call the\n" +
    "connection 'ICUDB'.", "Database Connection Error", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE);
    Is it possible to create the ODBC data source ICUDB if it does not exist from within my application.
    All information regarding the possibilty and the application of doing this would be greatly appreciated.
    Kind Regards
    Matt

    Thank you.
    During my search I for dsn-less connections I found the soloution:
    url = "jdbc:odbc:Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ=" +
    System.getProperty ("user.dir") + System.getProperty ("file.separator") +
    "data" + System.getProperty ("file.separator") + "icudb.mdb";
    try
    Class.forName ("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
    icuCon = DriverManager.getConnection (url);
    This works.
    Thanks for the replies.
    Matt :)
