i wanna to build data warehous for simple oracle database
what is the tool used to built data warehouse
in sql server its sql server analysis manager but i don't know what its in oracle ?

Data Guard with Oracle 9i and 10g -- have you done it?

We have an ERP system (JDEdwards, db size approx 600 GB) and we'd like to copy the data in this system to a database on another computer. We'd use the remote database for reporting, so we need it to be available. We are looking at using Data Guard running in Logical Standby mode.
The ERP database is Oracle 9i, and we are considering having the Logical Standby database be 10g. Have you done this and if so, what was your experience?
Here's why we want to do this. There are many tables in the ERP database that contain descending indexes. We can't change this, and it is not supported with Data Guard under Oracle 9.2. Tables with descending indexes do not copy to the logical standby database.
We were told that this is corrected in a newer release of Oracle, and we were wondering if a 10g database would properly copy tables with descending indexes.

What you are trying to do might not be possible. Because when you create logical standby you have to create a physical standby first and convert it. Primary and standby have to be same version.
In furture it might be possible because 10G will support rolling upgrade of logical standby.
However even it's possible you have to go through a lot of pain to setup and maintain it because Oracle don't support the setup.
What you could try are Stream and Replication, I will say Stream is very interesting one. Because Oracle say : "Oracle Streams and Oracle Data Guard (including Data Guard SQL Apply) are independent features based on some common underlying infrastructure and technology. "

Data truncation with oracle.toplink.internal.databaseaccess.OraclePlatform

Hello everyone
I use Toplink 10g(9.0.4.5) with Oracle Lite database. I use the oracle.toplink.internal.databaseaccess.OraclePlatform and everything seems to be fine, except that when I pass a String more than the length defined in the Database, data is getting truncated to the maximum possible length in the Database and no exception is thrown. If I run a SQL statement directly on the Oracle Lite database using msql "value too large for column" exception is thrown.
The question is it the default behviour of oracle.toplink.internal.databaseaccess.OraclePlatform to truncate the data for the large Strings? How can i change this behaviour to throw an exception?
Any information on this would be highly appreciated.

But my tests are pointing towards ToplinkPlatform only. I use the oracle.lite.poljdbc.POLJDBCDriver with Oracle Database Lite, and when I do a simple test to insert a large String wiht plaing JDBC and POLJDBCDriver, i receive the following error.
[POL-2403] value too large for column
However if i did the same using Toplink and oracle.toplink.internal.databaseaccess.OraclePlatform, the SQL statement generated by Toplink does not throw any errors. When i query the database, i see that the data is truncated. I use the same oracle.lite.poljdbc.POLJDBCDriver with Toplink.

Create schemas for Reporting Data Warehouse with Oracle XE

There is the possibility to import dw house and loader with the database Oracle XE?
I receive this error ORA-00439: feature not enabled: Advanced replication in CIM log.
I saw that the database, we do not have the feature 'Advanced replication'.

We haven't tested and certified with Oracle XE internally
You need to use an Oracle Enterprise Edition for Advanced Replication
What version of Oracle Commerce are you installing, I cannot tell from the log snippet you have posted

Date issue with oracle

which one I should assume correct one, is there any way to find the correct date.
The following function returns 08/01/2097
select to_char(maturity_dt, 'DD-MON-RRRR HH24:MI:SS') from Product_bak where product_id = 11671877
The following function returns 08/01/1997
select to_char(to_date(maturity_dt, 'DD-MON-RRRR HH24:MI:SS'), 'DD-MON-RRRR HH24:MI:SS') from product_bak where product_id = 11671877
The data type of the col maturity_dt is date.

Sorry i disagree, it does nto have to do with 2 or 4 digit year but with if the nls parmater is YY and RR.

This problem when importing from Data Dictionary can occur intermittently if you have the Oracle 9i or 10g database software installed on your computer.
Ivan provided a workaround in a previous message in this forum Re: Error when testing database connection :
Try to create a batch file (datamodeler.bat) under Data Modeler installation folder and put the following two lines in it:
set ORACLE_HOME=%CD%
start datamodeler.exe
Then double click on this file to start Data Modeler.

I may have been making a mountain out of a molehill.....
My problem while generating classes & descriptors was that Numbers from my Tables were being converted to BigDecimals.
I want these to be converted to Integers automatically as I am importing from approx 100 tables & don't want to update each mapping.
Is there a quick & easy way to achieve this ?
(I'm not being lazy & have spent 1/2 a day attempting to find this solution)

Basically Datawarehouse is a concept.To develop DW , we need two tools mainly. One is ETL tool and other one is Reporting tool .
The few famous ETL tools are
Informatica
Data Stage
Few famous Reporting tools are
Crystal Reports
Cognos
Business object
As a DW developer you should aware of atleat one ETL tool and atleat one Reporting tool.The combination is your choice.It better to finout the best combination in point of job market , and then learn them.
Erwin is Datamodel tool. It can aslo be used in DW implementation. You have already have experience on ORacle,So my adivce is go for Data warehousing with oracle or Data warehousing with Informatica .And learn one reporting tool.I donot is there any reporting tool available from ORACLE.

Using Oracle Dataguard 10g With Oracle EBS

Connect to a data server with topology manager

I've created a master and work repository. Now I'm in topology manager to create a data server from Physical Architecture. I succeed in connecting to this data server with "Oracle Toad" using a service name...so I select JDBC driver and then I insert jdbc:oracle:oci8:@<tns_alias> (with the right service name).

I came to know about OWB and OBIEE, but not sure what exactly these are ?

In order to create and develop a webcenter portal application, you only need to install JDeveloper and download the WeBCenter extensions. That's true.
But this install does not include the WebCenter services like dicussions, document services, analytics,... If you want to use these and integrate them in your portal, then you would need to install the suite as described on my blog.

Problem with date format from Oracle DB

Hi,
I am facing a problem with date fields from Oracle DB sources. The date format of the field in DB table is 'Date base type is DATE and DDIC type is DATS'.
I mapped the date fields to Date characters in BI. Now the data that comes to PSA is in weird format. It shows like -0.PR.09-A
I have changing the field settings in DataSource to internal and external and also i have tried mapping these date fields to text fields with out luck. All delivers the same format.
I have also tried using conversion routines like, CONVERSION_EXIT_IDATE_INPUT to change format. It also delivers me the same old result.
If anybody of you have any suggestions or if anybody have you experienced such probelms, Please share your experience with me.

The issue again in detail
I am facing an issue with date fields from oracle data. The data that is sent from Oracle is in the format is -0.AR.04-M. I am able to convert this date in BI with conversion routine in BI into format 04-MAR-0.
The problem is, I am getting data of length 10 (Output format) in the format -0.AR.04-M where the month is not in numericals. Since it is in text it is taking one character spacing more.
I have tried in different ways to convert and increased the length in BI, the result is same. I am wondering if we can change the date format in database.
I am in puzzle with the this date format. I have checked other Oracle DB connections data for date fields in BI, they get data in the format 20.081.031 which will allow to convert this in BI. Only from the system i am trying creating a problem.
