Data Workshop; identifing Foreign keys

Good morning ~
I am having some difficulty loading tables from Excel, utilizing the Data Workshop. The tables and data do load, however, it is not giving me an opportunity to identify foreign key relationships in tables which already exist. It is allowing Primary keys and sequences to be identified, but I am not being given the opportunity to identify foreign key relationships. From past experience, I remember always being given the opportunity to identify foreign key relationships, and I am confused as to why I am not being given that option now.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!
All the best,
-Robert

I don't seem to get it right,
I have three tables, like in the figure in my initial post.
In table CHILD_A  I create a foreign key (with check required) linked to the field ID in the table MAIN.
When I add a new record to the table MAIN, I get the error message that I defined in the foreign key.
What I expected was this error to occur when I added a field to table CHILD_A that didn't have a corresponding record in table MAIN.

  • Foreign key Mapping based on Data - in SQL Developer Data modeler

    Team
Do SQL Developer Data modeler supports Foreign Key mapping based on the Data in the Schema rather defined at the DDL ? For e.g if we implement a Objects Relation ship mapping in Data base, we don't define Foreign keys at table creation.
Toad does this feature through "AUTOMATIC FOREIGN KEYS MAPPING IN TOAD DATA MODELER" more info at (http://toadworld.com/Blogs/tabid/67/EntryId/905/Automatic-Foreign-Keys-Mapping-in-Toad-Data-Modeler.aspx)
any one know how to implement through some scripts also helps me

    Raj

If you have table PKs defined and the candidate columns match those PK columns, then you can use the Discover Foreign Keys utility. Right mouse over the relational model name (node) in the left browser. It is about half way down the menu. I did a blog post about it last week on kentgraziano.com.

  • Traversing data along foreign keys?

    Hi,
I am just wondering whether the following scenario is possible.
I have three tables A, B and C, The relationship between them is:
    A ----> C ( many-to-one )
    B ----> C ( many-to-one )
Now user updates the table C and I know I can capture what has changed by oracle triggers. Now I need to find the corresponding record in the parent table ( either A or B). Is it possible to somehow traverse the data along the foreign keys and when a record in table C is modified figure out whether the corresponding row and its columns/values belong in table A or table B.
Could this be done and where should I refer for more information about this use case.
    Thanks

    Your scenario is not clear.
You say A--->C (many to one, which I would understand as many A to one C) but then say that either A or B is the parent in which case an ER model would show an arc:
    C >--|------- A
    C >--|------- B
ie C has foreign key columns A_ID and B_ID, and a check constraint to allow only A_ID or B_ID to be set, but not both.
Back to the trigger question; while updating C of course you can read data from A and B; is that what you are trying to do, or are you trying to insert a parent A or B if required?

I also try with se14 (Activate and Adjust database) but error still.
how can i remove key field from zpr_emp and active table without loss data and without any change of
    module pool/reports
    pl. help

    Diagnosis
ZPR_EMP table is defined as a check table. For reasons of consistency, changes to the primary key of the table are not allowed.
    Procedure
If it is essential that you change the primary key, you must delete the relevant foreign keys. Refer to the where-used list to find all tables containing a field that is checked against this table. Delete the foreign keys for these fields.
If necessary, maintain the deleted foreign keys again.
Value table - It's a field in a domain it helps in domain level data validation.
Check table - unlike value table it helps in feild level data validation.
The relational data model contains not only tables, but also relationships between tables. These relationships are defined in the ABAP/4 Dictionary by foreign keys. An important function of foreign keys is to support data integrity in the relational data model. Foreign key fields may assume only those values allowed by the check table, in other words, values occurring in the primary key of the check table.
A foreign key provides a link between two tables, for eg.,T1 and T2 by including a reference in table T1 to the primary key of table T2. For this purpose, Foreign key fields assigned to the primary key fields of T2 are included in T1. Table T1, which is the one being checked, is called a foreign key table, and table T2 is called a check table. The terms dependent (foreign key) table and referenced (check) table are also used.
VALUE TABLE:If the domain of the check field has a value table, this is proposed by the system as check table in the foreign field maintenance. The key fields of the value table are in this case assigned fields of the foreign key table with the same domain. These fields may assume only those values allowed by the value table.
The value range of the domain can be defined by specifying value table. All table fields referring to this domain can then be checked against the corresponding field of this value table. In order the check can be executed, a foreign key must be defined for the value table.

  • Foreign keys

I have a summary table that was created off a fact table. The summary table has similar fields as the fact table, including keys that link back to dimension tables. My question is, should there be foreign key constraints defined on the summary table, since the data is coming from a fact table that already validated the data with the foreign keys defined on it (fact)?
    create table fact1
    (factkey number,
    ,amount number(21,6)
    ,state_id number,
foreign key to state_dim table on fact1
    Create table summ1
    (total number
    ,state_id number
    populate summ1 from fact1
foreign key to state_dim table on summ1 ---- is this redundant?

    select table_name from user_indexes where index_name = (select
    r_constraint_name from user_contraints where constraint_type
    = 'R' and table_name = <child_table>)
I think that should do it.

  • Constraint Problem in Foreign key --- Very Urgent - Help Needed

    Hello All,
There are 2 tables and their associated fields
    EmpProj

    eff_from_dt(pk)
    ProjDesc
    Proj_id(fk)
    eff_from_dt(fk)
    Proj_name
I have created the 2 tables like shown below
    CREATE TABLE EMPPROJ
    (EMP_ID NUMBER,
    PROJ_ID NUMBER,
    eff_from_dte date,
    PRIMARY KEY(EMP_ID,PROJ_ID,EFF_FROM_DT)

    EFF_FROM_DT DATE,
    CONSTRAINT S2 FOREIGN KEY(PROJ_ID,EFF_FROM_DT) REFERENCES EMPPROJ(PROJ_ID,EFF_FROM_DT));
Now whenever i try to create a foriegn key table it gives an error message like "No matching parent key found."
The columns in the foreign key should be same in number, same datatype and size. you can't create a foreign key with one column for a primary key of two columns.
What i need to do to refer only the two columns in the Primary Key by a Foreign key?
Please suggest anyway to resolve this problem.
    Thanks in advance.
    Captain

    My question is
The foreign key can not refer only partial column of primary key as the rule of RDMS.
How should i achieve that by other alternatives?
    Please suggest any method.

  • Problem creating table with foreign key in SQL Workshop

    Application Express version 2.2.1.00.04
Get error message "Number of referencing columns/data types must match referenced columns"
Master table SLS_SUPPLIERS has primary key SLS_ID NUMBER(8,0) and when creating table SLS_PRODUCTS with FK SLS_SLP_ID NUMBER(8,0) using the create table wizard I get the above error.
The name of the FK is SLP_SLS_FK, key column is SLP_SLS_ID, referenced table is SLS_SUPPLIERS and referenced column is SLS_ID.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    James Edey
I should add that if I create the table without the foreign key constraint and then create the constraint separately in SQL Workshop then it creates OK. It only fails in the create table wizard dialog.

Obviously no-one interested in this - just thought it may be a bug in v2.2 that the development team would find useful.

I replied to the other thread on this too -
there is a bug on that page when you click Next. If you define more than one fk but then navigate using the links on the process chart on the left (Constraints, Confirm, etc), the page works fine. We do have a bug on this now and I just added the notes I will need to get this fixed in 3.1 (I have already assigned it to me - must have some rogue validation that fires on next).
Sorry it took so long for this to get noticed - I am glad I checked the forum this morning -

I have started working on ADF and can anybody inform me in ADF how can i insert data in multiple table if they have foreign key, please?
    Thnak you very much.

    Hello,
Still no luck.I am surely doing silly mistakes.Anyway,Here are my workings-
    1> student_mst (id(pk),studentname) and student_guard_mst(id(fk),guardianname)
2> created EO from both of the tables, made id in both EO as DBSequence and an association was also generated.
3> i made that association composite by clicking the checkbox
    4> i created 2 VO from 2 EO.
5> put those VO in Application Module.
6> dragged and dropped 2 VO on my jspx page and dropped them as ADF Form.
    Now what to do please?

  • SQL Developer Data Modeler - Relation to Foreign Key Generation

SQL Developer Data Modeler 2.0.0 Build 584.
I am having trouble with Relations to Foreign Keys when Forward Engineering a Relational Model from a Logical Model.
First of all, the Naming Standard is not applied to the Foreign Keys when I perform the Engineer to Relational Model.
So I right click on the Relational Model from the Browser and Apply Naming Standards to Keys and Constraints.
I uncheck everything but Foreign Keys.
Now, Foreign Keys are named according to my Naming Standards.
However, this process also performs renames on the Column Foreign Keys even though I specifically unchecked that option.
This appears to be a BUG in the software and I haven't found a way around it.
I tried using {column} instead of {ref column} in the Naming Standard Template for Column Foreign Key, but that simply resulted in renaming my columns to "{column}".
Please confirm and/or let me know of any work-around for this.
    Thanks,
    Dan

    Hi Philip,
    Thanks for the reply.
Is this recorded as a bug to be addressed in the future?
Should I submit this problem via Oracle Support?
The other work-around I came up with is to override every Relation name in the Logical Model with the name I want to use in the Relational Model.
When the Relational Model is Engineered, this becomes my Foreign Key name.
Of course, this is not how I want to do things, so I am hoping for a bug fix someday.

  • Mapping error at deployment with foreign key data rule

I have created data rules for enabling foreign key constraints. There are 4 foreign key constraints on the fact table.

    Hi AW,
How can I overcome this situation ?The best solution as suggested by Jörg is use of surrogate keys.
For every production key (composite or single) generate a corresponding surrogate key using sequence operator in staging area.
This will not just solve your problem but it will be faster also (the joins will be faster with system-generated sequence numbers),
In a data warehouse use of production keys as primary key for linking with (foreign key) is not recommended, keep the production keys as additional attributes.

  • SQL data modeller -- how to create 1 to 1 relationship foreign key ?

    hi guys...
    i got 2 tables..
    table 1 - CFR
    CFR_ID = primary key
    table 2 - USER_PLAN
    USER_ID = primary key
    PLAN_ID,
    CFR_ID = foreign key reference (table 1)
The business flows go like this..
insdie CFR table, it contain all records / transactions of a particular user/plan. everytime a new transaction occurs for a plan/user, a new CFR_ID / row will be generated.
after which, the newly generated CFR_ID for the new row , will be updated to the CFR_ID in USER_PLAN
Thus, there is always a 1 to 1 relationship between the 2 table regardless how many CFR_ID is generated for a particular USER_PLAN. as the CFR_ID in the USEr_plan table will always be the latest one generated inside the CFR table.
However, in the data modeller, i am unable to create such foreign key relationship... ANY idea how do i create a 1 on 1 foreign key relationship ? or there is no such way..
    Thanks and Best Regards,
    Noob

    Hi philips,
    Thanks for the wonderful reply..
Just to double comfirm with you,
even if i had set a unique constraint on CFR_ID(foreign key column), inside the relationship model, the relationship between the foreign key is still showing as a 1:m relationship right ?
just that a character 'U' will appear beside the CFR_ID column.
However the diagraphm is still showing a 1:M relationship.
    is this correct ?

  • SQL Developer Data Modeler not drawing foreign key relationships

I'm having trouble with SQL Developer Data Modeler when I importa a DDL that has foreign keys. I export DDL files from SQL developer and choose various subsets of files. Sometimes Data Modeler will not recognize a foreign key if I include say a dozen files in the DDL file, but it will if I include just a few. Worse, even if the foreign key is recognized, sometimes it is not drawn in the Data Modeler and I have no way to make it be drawn. To be specific, I import a file containing the DDL for just two tables -- I see the foreign key! I import a file containing the DDL for a dozen tables including the two, I don't! Is there something I am not understanding about when Data Modeler will draw foreign keys or is the tool simply quite buggy?
    Much thanks!
    -ttamon

    Hi Philip,
I believe I have isolated the problem. Apparently if a field is named "FOREIGN..." it interferes with the tool recognizing foreign keys. Try to import a DDL file containing the following text:
    CREATE TABLE "SAMPLE"."SAMPLE_ONE"
(     "ID" VARCHAR2(255 CHAR) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "VALUE" VARCHAR2(255 CHAR),
         PRIMARY KEY ("ID")
    TABLESPACE "SAMPLE_DATA" ;
    CREATE TABLE "SAMPLE"."SAMPLE_TWO"
(     "ID" VARCHAR2(255 CHAR) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "FOREIGN_NAME" VARCHAR2(255 CHAR),
         PRIMARY KEY ("ID")
    TABLESPACE "SAMPLE_DATA" ;
    CREATE TABLE "SAMPLE"."SAMPLE_THREE"
(     "ID" VARCHAR2(255 CHAR) NOT NULL ENABLE,
"VALUE" VARCHAR2(255 CHAR) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "ALT_ID" VARCHAR2(255 CHAR),
         PRIMARY KEY ("ID")
    TABLESPACE "SAMPLE_DATA" ENABLE,
         CONSTRAINT "FK6DF8294F2288190D" FOREIGN KEY ("ALT_ID")
         REFERENCES "SAMPLE"."SAMPLE_ONE" ("ID") ENABLE
    TABLESPACE "SAMPLE_DATA" ;
You will discover the foreign key is not recognized or drawn! Now, if you swap the location of the third table (put it up first) everything works fine. This is how I discovered the problem, various subsets would work, others would not. To confirm the problem is with the field named "FOREIGN_NAME" use the DDL as specified above but change the first letter in the word "FOREIGN" to something else, and it will recognize the foreign key. Looks like a bug to me (took me about 4 hours to isolate this!). I am using Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler version 2.0.0 Build 584.
