Database 8i not restarting !!
Hi,
i had shutdown one of my instances running on AIX 4.3.3 because i wanted to increase Database Buffer Cache but if i try to restart the db i get this error:
oracle_test> sqlplus internal

What does it mean? I need to restart the database.
I get this error while shutdowing:

Please help, i'm still in trouble.
No one has encountered this error before?
The strange this is i'm not able to connect with sqlplus directly from the server.
On that server i have other 3 oracle instances which are running without problems and on which i can connect successfully.
The environment variables set are the same:
oracle_test> env | grep ORACLE
ORACLE_BASE=/OraBin
ORACLE_SID=uat
ORACLE_TERM=3151
ORACLE_HOME=/OraBin/product/8.1.7
oracle_dev> env | grep ORACLE

ORACLE_SID=dev
ORACLE_TERM=3151
ORACLE_HOME=/OraBin/product/8.1.7
TWO_TASK variable is not set.

The command completed successfullyI had a problem of accessing Oracle 10g database homepage. After a couple of days of research and discussions with coworker we found a solution.
Here is the solution:
1. Find out your default browser.
2. Configure your default web browser to connect to the Oracle Database XE Database Home Page as stated
here:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/install.102/b25143/toc.htm#CIHHJEHF
If this does not help de-install Oracle XE and reinstall following the instruction. During re-installation find out your default browser and configure it as instructed.
I suspect when the default web browser changes the Oracle 10g XE Database Home Page stops working.
Good luck -

Database is not comming up. 'ORACLE not available' error
I have two servers and one master backup server. Sun OS version 10 and Oracle 10 standarded edition are installed in three servers. Database files are saved in EMC storage and storage is mounted to the server while transactions are going on. Once I mounted the storage on the master backup server, database is started. This is my environment.
In my case, while database is runing on master backup server, some one has unmounted the storage without shutting down the database. So I manually killed all oracle processes and remount the storage. Then tried to start the database, but database was not comming up and only one entry is there in the alert log saying 'instance is starting' and following message was given.
ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27121: unable to determine size of shared memory segment
: 13: Permission denied
As well as I can't see any oracle processes are running.
Then I tried to mount the other server's storage volumes and start its database on the master backup server. Fortunatly it was started successfully.Then I tried to remount my first server and start the database. Again it was failed. Finally I restarted the server and problem solved. So I need to clarify what the reason to happen this situation. Please give me a proper solution as I am not an experienced DBA.
Each time I tried to log into the database locally.
Thank you.Hey Man,,
I think the problem with the server name or IP try this;
Try to check the host name, I have the same problem (on windows).
I checked the host name in system32/drivers/etc/hosts.
in this file find out the ip and name of ur machine, if some thing wrong there make ur own entry with ur machine ip and name. (do not alter existing entries add your own entry)
and then reboot the system
Hope this will work. -

2. The solution
Ok, we see here that all datavolumes could be read but that the logvolume is somehow broken.
What is necessary to do now is: recreate the logvolume.
But what about the data in the logvolume? The logdata would only be needed if the last shutdown of the database was NOT sucessfull. So we better check this in the krnldiag.err file:
2008-03-01 00:23:44 ___ Stopping GMT 2008-02-29 23:23:44 7.5.0 Build 032-123-111-699
2008-03-01 01:07:37 --- Starting GMT 2008-03-01 00:07:37 7.5.0 Build 032-123-111-699
2008-03-01 01:07:43 31 ERR 11000 page0io_ Illegal file format
2008-03-01 01:07:43 31 ERR 11000 page0io_ blocksize wanted: 8192, blocksize found: 0
2008-03-01 01:07:43 15 ERR 11000 vattach dev0_vattach returned FALSE
2008-03-01 01:07:43 15 ERR 20014 IOMan Attach error on log volume 1: Could not open volume
2008-03-01 01:07:43 15 ERR 20017 Admin RestartFilesystem failed with 'I/O error'
2008-03-01 01:07:43 15 ERR 20010 Admin ERROR 'disk_not_accessibl' CAUSED EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN
From here we see that the last shutdown before the error occured was indeed successful and that the error occured right the next time the database was started. So the logvolume cannot contain any data changes that are not yet in the data area.
Therefore it is safe to recreate the log area.
How can that be done? Up to MaxDB 7.7 there are only two ways to create the logarea and the logarea files:
1. create a database
or
2. recovery with initialization.
From MaxDB 7.7 onwards a *clear log' will do the same - but here we are on MaxDB 7.5.
For this problem only option 2 is feasible: RECOVERY WITH INITIALIZATION.
Although this is a standard DBA task, the customer told me that there is no experience available on his site he needs a step-by-step description how to perform this recovery.
Even more: the DBMGUI tool is not installed on this machine, so he needs a explanation for the dbmcli.
Here we go:
1. bring the database in ADMIN mode:
dbmcli -d <DBSID> -u control,<pw>
dbmcli on ... > db_admin
2. connect to the Utility Session
dbmcli on ...> util_connect
3. perform a complete data backup
dbmcli on ... > backup_start <medium_name> DATA
(this is needed because we want to recover the current data area)
4. perform a recovery with initialization:
!!! ATTENTION THIS IS THE POINT OF NO RETURN! MAKE DOUBLE SURE THAT THE BACKUP TAKEN IN STEP 3 IS OK !!!
dbmcli on ... > db_activate RECOVER <medium_name> DATA
After this db_activate has been sucessfully finished the database will be online but in HISTLOST-state.
Now a new backup is required to be able to perform new log backups again.
That's it sofar.
Anyhow it's HIGHLY recommended to use the DBMGUI tool which can be downloaded in SAP Service Marketplace or here in the SDN download area.
The whole process of backup/recovery is of course fully described in the [MaxDB documentation|http://maxdb.sap.com/documentation/].
P.S.
The <medium_name> is the name of the backup template to be used for backup or recovery.
To display all available mediums use the
medium_getall
command.
If a new medium should be created (for the backup of step 3 this is recommended to avoid the overwriting of any existing backups) the following command can be used
medium_put FULLDATABACK /tmp/fulldatabak file data
The medium_name here is FULLDATABACK. The backup will be written to a file - the file will be /tmp/fulldatabak (the complete filename has to be put in here).
The medium can only be used to perform complete data backups.a3fae627-3a4e-4efc-9a09-0200c1a958ca wrote:

SQL 2008R2 Database status not reflecting on SCOM 2012
Hi Everyone,
I am using SQL server 2008R2 with 2 instance and 9 database, SCOM agent installed on that server.
When i put 2 database offline i am not getting any alert, and i also delete 3 database its not reflecting on scom server.
I also verified SCOM services running and done re-install the agent.
Please suggestHi,
Have you imported the proper version of SQL MP for SCOM?
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=10631
The details below are related to SQL MP.
SQL MP has database status monitor - the information from user manual:
"Periodically the monitor checks the status of the database as reported by SQL Server. This is done by running a query against the master database of the SQL Server instance and returning the state of the database. If you receive
an alert from this monitor, an action is required in order to bring the database back to an operational state."

Alert is generated when monitor switches to Critical (red) state.
Deleted databases will disappear after the next DB instances discovery which is performed every 4 hours by default. In order to initialize discovery manually you can restart SCOM Agent Health service on SQL Server and wait for a while.

Thanks.I mean this not Oracle's internal crash because of bug and etc - the reason is here OS and such problem occurs mostly in Windows platform. F.e: Try to drop tablespace including datafiles - tablespace will be dropped, however datafiles will be there. However, Oracle will never return error if it can not drop datafiles. You have to restart DB in order to free up datafiles from locking mechanizm of Wndows.
Case here, is different, REDOLOG is heart of Oracle's life - could not write and crashed. That is I call normal :) -

I have tried to find the missing archives on the primary database, but was unable to. They have been deleted (somehow) regularly by the existing backup policy on the primary database. I have looked up the backups, but these archive logs are too old to be in the backup. Backup retention policy is 1 redundant backup of each file. I didn't save older backups as I didn't really need them from up to this point.
I have cross checked (using rman crosscheck) the archive log copies on the primary database and deleted the "obsolete" copies of archive logs. But, v$archived_log view on the primary database only marked those entries as "deleted". Unfortunately, the standby database is still waiting for those logs to "close the gap" and doesn't apply the redo logs at all. I am reluctant to recreate the control file on the primary database as I'm afraid this occurred through the regular database backup operations, due to current backup retention policy and it probably might happen again.
The standby creation procedure was done by using the data files from 3 days ago. The archive logs which are "producing the gap" are older than a month, and are probably unneeded for standby recovery.
What shall I do?
Kind regards and thanks in advance,
MilivojOn a physical standby database
To determine if there is an archive gap on your physical standby database, query the V$ARCHIVE_GAP view as shown in the following example:
SQL> SELECT * FROM V$ARCHIVE_GAP;
THREAD# LOW_SEQUENCE# HIGH_SEQUENCE#
1 7 10
The output from the previous example indicates your physical standby database is currently missing log files from sequence 7 to sequence 10 for thread 1.
After you identify the gap, issue the following SQL statement on the primary database to locate the archived redo log files on your primary
database (assuming the local archive destination on the primary database is LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_1):
SQL> SELECT NAME FROM V$ARCHIVED_LOG WHERE THREAD#=1 AND DEST_ID=1 AND 2> SEQUENCE# BETWEEN 7 AND 10;
NAME
/primary/thread1_dest/arcr_1_7.arc /primary/thread1_dest/arcr_1_8.arc /primary/thread1_dest/arcr_1_9.arc
Copy these log files to your physical standby database and register them using the ALTER DATABASE REGISTER LOGFILE statement on your physical standby database. For example:
SQL> ALTER DATABASE REGISTER LOGFILE
'/physical_standby1/thread1_dest/arcr_1_7.arc';
SQL> ALTER DATABASE REGISTER LOGFILE
'/physical_standby1/thread1_dest/arcr_1_8.arc';
After you register these log files on the physical standby database, you can restart Redo Apply.
Note:
The V$ARCHIVE_GAP fixed view on a physical standby database only returns the next gap that is currently blocking Redo Apply from continuing. After resolving the gap and starting Redo Apply, query the V$ARCHIVE_GAP fixed view again on the physical standby database to determine the next gap sequence, if there is one. Repeat this process until there are no more gaps.
Restoring the archived logs from the backup set
If the archived logs are not available in the archive destination then at that time we need to restore the required archived logs from the backup step. This task is accomplished in the following way.
To restore range specified archived logs:
Run {
Set archivelog destination to '/oracle/arch/arch_restore'
Restore archivelog from logseq=<xxxxx> until logseq=<xxxxxxx>
To restore all the archived logs:
Run {
Set archivelog destination to '/oracle/arch/arch_restore';
Restore archivelog all;

Database does not open when starting NT service
Database does not open automatically when starting NT service. It can be opened manually only, through the one of administrative utilities. Can this problem occur due to small SGA size? (in my case - 32 Mb)
OS: Windows NT SP6

Ilya.sounds more like your permissions aren't set correctly on the services startup menu. you could also have a post-job to run after the server restarts - using oradim you can start the service and the db all at once.

Saposcol service in SuSE Linux11 is not restarting:
Hi all,
Please help to come out of this issue:
Our SAP ERP ECC6.0 was smoothly running on SuSE Linux11 with Oracle10.2.
Due to some power failure our SAP was down.
When I first tried to restart the service by entering the command:
su ora<sid>
lsnrctl start
the service is unable to restart for database and the SAP is not restarting.
Thanks n Regards
eashsan.Try to bring-up the database from sqlplus and update this message.
If you are able to open the database, then the issue would me minor with integration.
Paste the ERROR lines of trans.log (After executing R3trans -dx) once your DB is up.

Question: 10gR2 database can not see the 11gR2 ASM diskgroup?
Hi there,
env:

Single server(non-RAC)
note: we don't want to upgrade 10gr2 database into 11gR2 yet. But we created the 11gR2 ASM, then a 11gr2 database on ASM, and plan to migrate datafile in 10gR2 database to 11gR2 ASM
1. oracle 10gR2 installed first version: 10.2.0.3.0
2. then install 11gR2 Grid Infrastructure, and created ASM (version 11gr2)

MattThanks Rene, I have updated the ticket with the required information. In the mean time I am interested if anyone else had had a similar problem during an upgrade. We did have an initial error with the crtsidusr command ( setting CLASSICUSERCONCEPT + removing some of the SPCAUT) seemed to fix that. At this point the upgrade failed and we had to manually APYSAPKRN, the log shoewed it wanted the NON UC which was odd as we are including the UC in the upgrade.
