  • Unable to restore database using RMAN in oracle 10g

    Hi Everyone!!!!!!!
I have following scenario. In which I don't want to drop newly created tablespace (test). So, let me know how to restore database from existing backup without dropping new tablespace and taking new backup?
    1. I took database backup as
    RMAN > backup database;
    2. Create one tablespace "test"
    3. Then I tried to restore database as (In mount mode)
    RMAN > restore database
    4. But I can't restore database. Even I tried after taking "test" tablespace offline , It returns error as follow
ORA-01119: error in creating database file 'D:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\ORADATA\TESTCAT\TEST.DBF'
    ORA-27038: created file already exists
OSD-04010: <create> option specified, file already exists
Please suggest me step/way so that I can restore database without taking new backup or dropping new tablespace (test).........

    Hello;
    Rename this datafile :
    D:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\ORADATA\TESTCAT\TEST.DBF
    Then try the restore again.
If this isn't a test database stop and think about how you will recover if this does not work. That is how will you recover from the recover if it goes bad?

and niether in Oracle® Data Guard Concepts and Administration 10g Release 2 (10.2) B14239-04

In F.1.1 page F-2 it is said :
See Chapter 3 for a complete discussion of physical standby database preparation, including initialization parameter settings. You must perform all necessary preparation tasks described in these chapters before RMAN can successfully create the standby database files and mount the standby database.
Any way I'm looking for a procedure or clear article to create it.

I have done Cold backup and Hot backup for the database instance HRCS90 but both get the same error message.

    My question is:
Can any folk tell me the specific steps (command by command) to backup a single database instance in Oracle using RMAN ?
    Thanks.

    Folks,
Hello. Thanks a lot for replying. My database instance named HRCS90 is going to be backed up. My backup directory is /backup_Database_Instance_HRCS90.
If database in open state, we must back up in archive log. If database in mount state but not open, we can back up in noarchive log.
I have tried to back up HRCS90 in archive and noarchive log when database in mount state but not open as below:
    SQL>startup mount;
    SQL>exit
    [user@linux bin]$./rman
    RMAN>connect target;
    RMAN> CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT '/backup_Database_Instance_HRCS90/full_%u_%s_%p';

  • Duplicate Oracle Database 8.1.7.0 using RMAN

An old database needs to be duplicated... :(
We have an old database named TAPES running on Windows 2003 (32bit) and Oracle 8.1.7.0
The team wants to duplicate / clone this database to another location. We have setup another server, with Windows 2003 and installed Oracle Software 8.1.7.0 with
starter database. The two machines A and B has no network connection (they are on different sites). Also the structure of the machines are different (the location of the database files are different)
How can I duplicate this using RMAN. We cannot afford any downtime on TAPES prod. The idea is:
-backup TAPES prod using RMAN (hot backup)
-copy and tranport the backup files to the remote machine B
-restore (and recover) the RMAN backup to Machine B
-the duplicate database has the same name
In oracle 9i, 10g and 11g, this is easy...and i must admit...i dont know how to do it in Oracle 8.1.7.0...
    I need help... :(
    thanks a lot!

thanks...i saw one article with this approach..but the document did not present the detailed process...do you have one? i am still searching for a good procedure to follow...since it is an old database and focusing/studying old versions like this is a pain in the a**... :(

  • Restore Database with Oracle 9i with a New Host using RMAN

    Gurus,
I am trying to restore a database from some RMAN created files on a new host with a new directory structure for some testing. I do not have access to the source database.
    The database is Oracle 9i.
The files that have been created are the following:
'C-2995630462-20110214-00' is the control file and SP file backup.
    'B_ABM4KAJ5_1_1' is the database backup.
B_ACM4KARS_1_1 and B_AAM4KAIV_1_1 are archived redo logs
Here is the RMAN listing from when the files were created:

I am new to using RMAN and I'm hoping someone could point me in a direction of some documentation to assist with the scenario described above. I've looked at several Oracle documents but have been unable to find a way to separate out the spfile from the control file.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Thanks Meeran.
I have attempted to follow the directions from the RMAN document that you posted and have run into the following error:

  • Migrate Oracle 11g database from Windows To Linux using RMAN hot / cold  backup ?

    Hi Friends,
Is it possible to Migrate Oracle 11g database from Windows To Linux using RMAN hot / cold  backup ? ( as i would like to perform Point In Time recovery)
(or) The only way is to use RMAN convert as mentioned here  - Transporting Data Across Platforms
(or) Is there any other method (except exp/imp and data pump)
    Regards,
    DB

    HI
his post describes the procedure required to migrate a database from Windows to Linux using the RMAN Convert Database command.
Both Windows and Linux platforms have the same endian format, which makes possible to transfer the whole database, making the migration process very straightforward and simple.
To migrate between platforms that have a different endian format, Cross Platform Transportable Tablespaces (XTTS) needs to be used instead.
List of Steps Needed to Complete the Migration
The migration process is simple, but as it has several steps it is convenient to be familiar with them before running it.
    1. Check platform compatibility between source and target OS
    2. Start the database in read only mode
    3. Check database readiness for transport from Windows to Linux using DBMS_TDB.CHECK_DB
    4. Check if there are any external objects
    5. Execute the Rman Convert database command
    6. Copy converted datafiles, generated Transport Script and Parameter File to Linux
    7. Edit the init.ora for the new database
    8. Edit the Transport Script and Parameter File changing the windows paths to Linux Paths
    9. Execute the Transport Script
    10.Change the Database ID
    11.Check database integrity
    Thank you

  • Apps Cloning using RMAN

    Hi,
I am doing Apps 11i cloning with rapidclone.
I have cloned the database using RMAN.
As per the metalink note 230672.1 I have to run following script on DB node.
    perl adcfgclone.pl dbconfig <target context file>
However I dont have the context file for the new instance.
Should I copy the context file (for DB) from source instance , rename it and use it?
If I run the adcfgclone.pl using the source instance context file (present in the target db node), it throws
    error for database connection.
Platform - Oracle Ebusiness Suite 11.5.10 on Oracle enterprise Linux 4 and Oracle 9i database.
    Pls advice.
    Thanks,
    rane

However I dont have the context file for the new instance.Did you run "perl adcfgclone.pl dbTechStack" before issuing "perl adcfgclone.pl dbconfig <target context file>"? This should create the context file for you.
Should I copy the context file (for DB) from source instance , rename it and use it?No.
If I run the adcfgclone.pl using the source instance context file (present in the target db node), it throws
error for database connection. This is an expected behavior since the context file of the source node cannot be used on the target node.

  • Backup procedure using RMAN for 11i Instance

    Hi,
    we have 11.5.10.2 instance
    Node 1 = Application Tier ( 11.5.10.2)
    Node 2 = DB Tier ( 9.2.0.7)
as of now, we are taking daily cold backup of both instances.
we want to implement RMAN online backup for DB and take cold backup every week end only.
so, what are the best procedures for implementing RMAN for 11i Database.
Please share your experience, if you have anybody implemented?
which one you prefer in RMAN backup ( backupsets or copy option or backupsets with compressed option) interms of performance.. our db size is 60 GB only.
we apply apps tier patches very rarely . so we want to take RMAN online backup for DB daily and take cold backup for entire apps and db in the week ends.

    Hi,
This time, i am going to implement for Oracle 11i Database. thats why, i need you guys advice regarding 11i Database.Well, the same is applicable to 11i/R12 databases. You just need to configure RMAN the same way you configure it on any standalone database.
If you have implemented any where RMAN, can you share, how you are taking RMAN backup? I can share the scripts we use for backup using RMAN. If you are interested, let me know and I shall send it by email.
if we want to clone, are you cloning the TEST instance with RMAN backup or using cold backup. We use both, depends on the time frame of the cloning task and whether it is possible to use cold backup for cloning or not.
Please have a look at the following notes, it should be helpful.

  • Ebs r12 cloning using rman online backup

    dear all,
how are you guys? i have ebs r12  on multi node and i want to clone db tier and apps tier using rman online backup, can  anybody provide me the detail steps of cloning ebs(db tier and appstier ) using rman online backup and  directory structure on source and target database is also different.your help highly appreciated thanks in advance.
    regards.

    Hi,
You cannot use RMAN to clone the Apps tier of the EBS and you may use RMAN only on the DB tier. For a complete backup, as mentioned by Hemant K Chitale, you will have to use the rapid clone utility.
To perform a rapid clone using RMAN there are plenty of step by step instructions in google which may guide in addition to support.oracle.com, Let me google that for you
    Thanks &
    Best Regards,
