Database Crash in Windows

Hi,
I have a Database with the RDBMS software installed on the server's local C: but the database itself installed on a SAN ( via the E: )
My system disk has crashed i.e. C: and there is no backup of this drive - so it is being replaced ! Hence I have lost my RDBMS software ( which I can reinstall ok again ) - which I presume will sort out some new registry entries. I can even reconfigure the Listener if required
However what do I do about the Services that have been lost which effectively start / stop my Database and Database Services
Can I simply manually recreate these services - how is this done ?
thanks,
Jim

use oradim utility to create DB service

I tried another machine, 64 bit of course, as I want to deploy my application on a 64bit PC, but still got the same problem.
This other machine was from HP, iCore 3 (4 CPUs) 2.2GHz, 4GB RAM and running Windows Professional 64 bit.
Now as I see it, it could be a Run-time environment mis-match error.
For this I tried installing a 64 bit LVRTE from NI, but still no sucess.
I checked DEP, for all 3 PCs and it was set to the following
Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only (first option).
I am confused. I can not find a solution for this and it is really frustrating.

But I am assuming that when I make the installer, the 32-bit Run Time Engine is appened with the installer, as show below
Since from the picture you can see its including the support installers from '\Program Files (x86)\'
The application runs queries to fetch data from database in SQL server 2008, and for that I am using a Microsoft SQL Native Client 2008 R2 64 bit ( this is the only version that installs on either PC, even the one on which I developed my LV Application).
I am not using any driver, only toolkits for reports - and for that I un-checked the "Remove unused polymorphic VI instances" when making the executable, otherwise LV throws up an exception that share variable are not being included.
Yes I did reboot every time after I ran the installation.
    Still getting the same error.

    Hello,
    What is MOS?
MOS stand for My Oracle Support (formelly called Metalink). You'll find below their link:
    https://support.oracle.com/
You'll need the Customer Support Identifier ( CSI ) to get an account.
As soon as, you can logon to MOS, then open a Service Request and send them the Alert log, trace file, ... and if possible an Incident Package so that they can diagnose the error you got.
As you are in 11.1 you can generate an Incident Package with the help of the Automatic Diagnostic Repository ( ADR ). You may follow the procedure below to create the Incident Package and manage the call with MOS:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e17120/diag002.htm#CHDJDBCH
    Hope this help.
    Best regards,
    Jean-Valentin

    Estimation/Indication of Database Crash
    Hello,
Its an open question that can you tell me the errors/warnings (at least 3) which are exists in alert log at present, whose meaning is that your database will be crashed in next one hour. I mean which ORA-NNNNN or other in alert log; whose indication is same that your database (not instance) is going to be crash within next one hour definately, so that i may get backup or export. Please let me know that question is clear or not.
If you can please elaborate in view of different oracle version and/or OS, it will additional helpful reply to question.
    Regards
    Girish Sharma

"there is already a service disruption"
If the archiver stops, then there is no service disruption until all redo log groups are full, so you do have time to fix the problem before then database hangs.
Most archiver hangs are due to disk full which you can avoid if you monitor disk usage, flashback area usage, and have automatic jobs to backup and purge archivelogs.
Archiver hung also happens due to bugs, controlfile locks, disk errors (NFS etc) or network errors (Dataguard), and in these cases you can't predict them with monitoring, so you won't know about them until you get alert log errors.
Another error with a similar result would be ORA-19809 :-
ARC0: Error 19809 Creating archive log file to '/oraexport/d1122/DB1122/archivelog/2010_01_06/o1_mf_1_240_%u_.arc'

Is the Windows firewall active? Have you enabled the port on the firewall, if it is?

  • Firefox was working fine in the morning, after half a day, it just crashed and now every time i try to start FF it crashes, i reinstalled FF, even tryed FF 4 beta, every time same crash report window, and nothing happens.

After a half day working normally, FF just crashed, and now i reinstall it, even tryed FF 4 beta, and still getting crash report. Cant even start in safe mode, same crash report window pop up.
Checked for viruses, malwares. Nothing helped.

Other applications print okay? If so, try deleting the Preview .plist
You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for the .plist. Hold down the option key while using the Finder "Go To Folder" command. Enter ~`/Library. Delete the .plist(s) for the application.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below. It does work with Mountain Lion:
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/22/access-user-library-folder-in-os-x-lion/
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.2. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

  • I'm getting popup notices that Firefox has a problem, and Windows is looking for a solution; then it closes Firefox and says Windows will let me know if it finds a solution. No crash report window comes up.

Firefox is my default browser on my new laptop, with OS Windows 7. I've now had several instances where a Windows popup comes up saying Firefox has developed a problem and may have to close. It also indicates Windows "is looking for a solution to the problem." No solution is found, however, and Firefox is forced to close, with the happy notice that Windows will let me know if it finds a solution to the problem. If there is any tech data on the crash, I'm not sure where to find it, and no Firefox crash report window comes up. I thought it was an anomaly the first time, but this has now occurred at least 4 times in the past several days.

Well it came installed on my brand new Windows 8 pro w530 I received 4 weeks ago and has never worked. When you try to open power manager it just crashes. If you uninstall it the Lenovo software just keep reinstalling it. If you uninstall the Lenovo PM driver but do not reboot you can then open Power Manager. The minute you reboot the Lenovo software reinstallls the driver.
Why would Lenovo install software on a brand new Windows 8 laptop that is broken and useless? Tech support is absolutely no help they transfer you to the software department which wants to charge you to fix a problem that Lenovo created!!! It is crazy!! I was hoping someone here could solve this problem or maybe someone at Lenovo would see this and get the problem resolved. Tech support has been useless. I reported the problem to them at least 5 times.

  • How do I rename an XE database on a Windows 2003 Server?

Ok. I'm attempting to rename a freshly installed XE database on a Windows 2003 Server. It looks like there is no getting around the fact that the database gets named "XE" during installation. Because there could potentially be multiple installations of XE in my organization, I thought it'd be a good idea to disambiguate the installations by renaming them to match their function. In this particular case, I'd like to rename the database to "CTXMGMT". It will be a data repository for our Citrix farm administration programs.
Here is what I've performed thus far:
    1. Installed Oracle 10g XE on one of our Windows 2003 Server, Standard Edition machines.
    2. Verified that the installation was performed correctly by making sure the 'Database Home Page' loads correctly through Internet Explorer, and by performing a few Select statements on the database (i.e. select name from v$database;)
    * * I then began following instructions from this document (http://www.utexas.edu/its/unix/reference/oracledocs/v92/B10501_01/server.920/a96652/ch14.htm#1004735) to rename the database. Note: I'm only trying to change the name of the database, not the ID.
    3. Shutdown the database
    4. Opened the database in MOUNT mode
    5. Ran the NID utility. Here's the actual input/output to/from the NID utility:
    C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN>nid target=sys/manager@xe DBNAME=CTXMGMT SETNAME=YES
    DBNEWID: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production on Mon Jul 10 15:55:10 2006
Copyright (c) 1982, 2005, Oracle. All rights reserved.
    Connected to database XE (DBID=2476560070)
    Connected to server version 10.2.0
    Control Files in database:
    C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\CONTROL.DBF
Change database name of database XE to CTXMGMT? (Y/[N]) => Y
    Proceeding with operation
Changing database name from XE to CTXMGMT
    Control File C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\CONTROL.DBF - modified
Datafile C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\SYSTEM.DBF - wrote new name
Datafile C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\UNDO.DBF - wrote new name
Datafile C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\SYSAUX.DBF - wrote new name
Datafile C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\USERS.DBF - wrote new name
Datafile C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\TEMP.DBF - wrote new name
Control File C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\CONTROL.DBF - wrote new name
    Instance shut down
    Database name changed to CTXMGMT.
Modify parameter file and generate a new password file before restarting.
    Succesfully changed database name.
    DBNEWID - Completed succesfully.
    6. After running the NID utility from a separate DOS Window, I attempt to shutdown the newly renamed database from the first DOS Window I used in steps 3 & 4 from above (i.e. to shutdown the database and then start it in MOUNT mode) but I receive this error:
    ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
This is somewhat expected since the SQL*Plus connection in this window probably had "the bottom pulled out from under it" when the database was renamed.
However at this point I'm unsure about what state the database is in. Is it down? Is it up? Logic would sort of dictate that the database was left in the MOUNT state, which is the state it was in when the database name was changed. However, the only way I'm able to get back in to the database is by doing the following
    a. Opened a new DOS window
    b. entered "set ORACLE_HOME=C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server"
    c. entered "set ORACLE_SID=XE"
    d. entered " sqlplus "/ as sysdba" "
    e. at SQL> prompt, entered "startup"... which produces:
    SQL> startup;
    ORACLE instance started.
Total System Global Area 285212672 bytes
    Fixed Size 1287016 bytes

    Redo Buffers 2904064 bytes
ORA-01103: database name 'CTXMGMT' in control file is not 'XE'
    SQL>
From here I don't know what to do. According to the ORA-01103 error message, it looks like I need to change the database name in the control file to "CTXMGMT", but I'm not sure how I should go about that. The control file is a binary file, so I can't just open it up with Notepad and type in a new database name.
I suspect that even once that is done that the listener.ora (and maybe the tnsnames.ora file?) will have to be edited to include the new "CTXMGMT" name, but I'm not sure how exactly those files should look to incorporate the new database name.
Also, would the names of services have to be changed in Windows as well? (i.e. Would the Windows service named "OracleServiceXE" have to be renamed to "OracleServiceCTXMGMT" ?)
In short, I really just need to know how to rename an XE database on Windows appropriately. The steps described above represent as far as I've gotten. If I'm going about it incorrectly could someone shed some light on the correct steps to follow? The more detailed the better. Thanks.

    Okay, I've....
    1) Reinstalled XE, to start from scratch
    2) Went in to SQL*Plus, did a "create pfile from spfile;"
    3) Shutdown the database
    4) Started it up in MOUNT mode
    5) Ran NID, to change the database name from 'XE' to 'CTXMGMT'
    6) Shutdown the database again
    7) Edited the pfile to change the database name (i.e. "db_name='CTXMGMT'")
    8) Started up the database
And that worked! So that's good... but now my question is:
How do I change the SID for the database? Currently, the instance name for the database is still 'XE'....
    SQL> select instance_name
    2 from v$instance;
    INSTANCE_NAME
    xe
I'd like it so a connection could be made to the database with the tnsnames.ora file looking like this:
    CTXMGMT =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(Host = rodin)(Port = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = CTXMGMT))
Could someone explain how to get the database to this state? Thanks.

This is the only application I'm having trouble with. The error occurrs as soon as the software starts up.
    How do I fix this?
The problem with using Explorer to copy the files from the camera disc is that the raw files are in a format that
my movie making/DVD burning software doesn't recognize.  Using PMB on my older computer isn't really an option, because the files are big and hard to transfer to this computer. Is there any other way to import movies from the camera onto my computer?

hmmm ok, so it seems that you dont use RMAN to backup your database...
It seems there that your have a controlfile problem after a disk crash. I hope your database is on ARCHIVELOG mode.
Does your database crashed during activity or was idle ?
    1. Mount the database
    2. set autorecovery on ;
    recover database using backup controlfile ;
media recovery complete <= this means that all is ok now
    3. alter database open resetlogs ;
if #2 doesnt work cause of redo log problem such as corrupted redo log, or some transactions "blocked" in theses redo log cause of a big crash during the database activity, Oracle will tell you that a redo log is corrupted and will give you the hour of the redo log log entry that Oracle need to recover.
So you will have to make an incomplete recovery (that means you will lose some datas, no much but some) until time.
For example, your redo entry has been corrupted at 12:00:50
    1. recover database until time '2003-08-25:12:00:00' ;
    2. alter database open resetlogs ;
    3. Make a full backup of your database !

  • How to monitor oracle 11g database sessions on Windows 2008 server?

    Hi Experts
How to monitor the Oracle 11g database sessions on Windows 2008 server (other than SQL Developer tool), which procedure or query is taking more time with Java application.

Recently i found this tool- myorasql on the net to monitor the performence of database, easy to setup and check the performence.  i never tested it but seems impresive.  It is free and i think it would be use ful to you.

You can also use Quest - Toad or sqlplus if you are very good at sql commands and all dictionary tables or OEM/EM grid if it is configured .
