Database deployments in SQL Server 2008 R2

Hi, We have SQL Server 2008 R2 implementation and we are wondering how to do deploy new or modified objects to Production. As of we just provide scripts to DBA and he takes care of it. But we would like to automate this at the click of a button. We are using
TFS as the code repository. Well all I am trying to understand is what are different ways to accomplish this, best practices & if I would have to rely on any third party tools what are they?
Thanks in advance.............

  • How to hide not all but a specific database on a SQL Server 2008 R2 instance?

    Hello everyone,
I need help from all the SQL Server database security experts out there. Any solution/help or work-around will be really appreciated. Here is the scenario; our client is using our application which is a windows forms application
having in backend as a database under SQL Server 2008 R2 instance. We have successfully installed the SQL Server software with mixed mode authentication on client side, our application is running smoothly and everything is working fine. Our database on which
application is running is quite intuitive, in the sense, all employees information is stored in EmployeeMaster and all departments information is stored in DepartmentMaster and so on. It consists of more than 500 such tables, stored-procedures and views. We
have encrypted stored-procedures and views, problem is only with tables.
We don't want table structure to be visible to anybody in SSMS (or tables must be hidden from all the users) but at the same time the tables should be accessible from the application. And we don't want to go with the option of encrypting
the tables data and changing the names of all the tables to T001,T002..etc. as that is not feasible. And one last thing, we cannot restrict 'sa' login's password, it has to be shared with the client.
    Regards,
    Sumit R. Santani

Also, will you please enlighten me more on what you said as "couple of choices" if I want to lock out plain users only?
Assuming that you are selling a solution to a client, it's more an issue for your client's IT department, that do want their users to connect with Excel or SSMS.
Anyway, I have a brief overview here:
    http://www.sommarskog.se/grantperm.html#Othermethods
Again my question on that is how much reliable will be that license agreement?
That depends on the lawyer you engage to write the license agreement.
How would I come to know what they are doing with our database?
Trust. Trust is extremely important. It is very difficult to make business if you don't trust people.
That said, there are basically two reasons you want to hide the application from the client. One is protecting intellectual property. To this end, I know of nothing else than trust. And maybe after all, your application is not so fantastic that it is worth
    stealing anyway.
The other reason is that you don't want the client to change it, and then open a free support case when he has messed up. To this end there are some technical approaches you can take to detect such tampering. For instance, you can sign all stored procedures
with certificates using ADD SIGNATURE WITH SIGNED BLOB, and then ship only the public key of the certificate. This permits SQL Server to verify the signature, but the client cannot change the signature and sign it with that certificate, because the private
key is not available to them.

  • Database Migration MS Sql Server 2008 to Oracle

I have downloaded the latest updates for SQL Developer and am attempting to migrate my SQL Server 2008 DB to Oracle 11g. I get the following error when attempting to test my Sql Server connection:
Status : Failure - Test failed: I/O Error: SSO Failed: Native SSPI library not loaded. Check the java.library.path system property.
After attempting and following several posts, I have been unsuccessful in getting past this error - I have downloaded and placed in the specified directories the various .dll's suggested....
Any help is of course appreciated.

Boy do I look foolish. I told this guy that the owners of the application answer questions here... suerly he would get a reply.
Such is the problem with "free" software. No one to blame when it doesn't work.

  • Database upgradation from SQL Server 2008 to 2012

    Hi Experts,
I am upgrading MSSQL 2008 to MSSQL 2012. This box contains all of the DBs for our Sharepoint installation.
We have identified that we can run the setup wizard to change the database and basically restore a backup from the 2008 database onto the 2012 database running in 2008 compatibility mode. But what should be done about the SharePoint Foundation database running
    on the 2008 database?
Help  me to resolve the issue.
    Regards
    Prakash M

    Hi Prakash,
Here you are the steps i have used while doing such upgrade:
To Migrate SharePoint DBs from SQL Server to another either same version or to a new version (2008 to 2008 or 2008 to 2012) you can follow the following steps:
Stop all SharePoint and IIS Related Services.
    Stop IIS.
Detach all related SQL Server databases.
    Configuration database
    Central Administration content database
    Content databases
    Service application databases
Move all database files (.mdf, .ldf, and .ndf) to the new server.
Set up same user permissions on the new SQL server.
Attach your databases to the new SQL Server.
Verify ports in your new SQL server.
Go to your SharePoint server and create your SQL Server Alias.
    Start all your SharePoint service
    Hope this is helpful

  • How to attached a sql server 2008 database on sql server 2005

    Hi,
I have a backup of database designed over sql server 2008. I need to attacched this on a machine where sql server 2005 is installed and I am getting the message while attaching the database.
"The database can not be opened because it is version 661.
the server supports version 611 and earlier"

You need to install/have another instance of SQL Server 2008, restore over there the database and perhaps create a SSIS package to move objects and data into SQL Server 2005

    Hello,
    >>'\\DBBackup\SharePoint_backup\DB_backup_2014_02_13_122719_5314660.bak'. Operating system error 5(Access is denied.).
This clearly points out to fact that your SQL Server service account does not have permission of read/write on shared location, simple.
    >>But when I open the shared path in the Windows Explorer it opens successfully.
This is because when you are browsing through explorer your windows login credential is used to access that folder but when you are running backup your SQL Server service account permission is used to write backup on shared folder ( which I assume it does
not have ) so the access denied error.
    Hope this helps
PS: I reffered the link its maily how you specify backup path its not about access denied error due to SQL server service acount not having privilege

You are trying to attach SQL Server 2012  database files to SQL Server 2008 R2 which is not allowed, you either need to upgrade your SQL Server 2008 to 2012 or alternatively you can generate all scripts from SQL Server 2012 and execute it in SQL Server
    2008 R2.
You can refer below link to how to generate script.

  • How to send PLAIN text email from sp_send_dbmail using SQL Server 2008 R2?

I have configured Database Mail in SQL Server 2008 R2 (64) and it sends emails just fine. However the destination is recieving the body of thes message as Base 64 encoding.
    Snippet:
    EXEC msdb..sp_send_dbmail @profile_name='Outmail', @recipients = @recpts, @subject = @subj, @body_format = 'TEXT', @body=@body2;
As you can see I set @body_format to TEXT, but it still sends Base 64. I need to send plain ASCII text. How can I change this?

I am having this exact issue too.  I have a trigger that sends an email using a stored procedure.  The dbmail is sending the email using the Exchange 2010 server SMTP.  It does not login so the email is relayed as user = "Anonymous".
The SQL dbmail email header is showing the following:
    Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8"
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
    MIME-Version: 1.0
    X-MS-Exchange-Organization-AuthSource: MX01.domain.local
    X-MS-Exchange-Organization-AuthAs: Anonymous
Here is the header if I send via Outlook profile using the legacy program I am trying to automate using SQL Server 2008R2:
    Content-Type: application/ms-tnef; name="winmail.dat"
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: binary
    MIME-Version: 1.0
    X-MS-Has-Attach:
    X-MS-Exchange-Organization-SCL: -1
    X-MS-TNEF-Correlator: <[email protected]>
    MIME-Version: 1.0
    X-MS-Exchange-Organization-AuthSource: MX01.domain.local
    X-MS-Exchange-Organization-AuthAs: Internal
    X-MS-Exchange-Organization-AuthMechanism: 03

  • MS SQL Server 2008 -- Daily Backup

    Hello,
My real need is simply to do a daily backup of a database : I have SQL Server 2008
    ( not express ) .
My user is    sa       and has full control on the database.
I have searched the web and found many places where they say to do a     Task -> Backup    and then click on "script action to job". This option is greyed out ( and it is NOT express) and I am using the   sa
    user will FULL privileges.
    I read here ( http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/4c5b5ff3-f2cd-4439-b878-de0891a5eedf/sql-server-management-studio-express-script-action-to-job-grayed-out?forum=sqldatabaseengine )  that I may need to    "Install
    Integration Services"   .
However, when I go to do this  (
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143731(v=sql.105).aspx ) , I read:
You can install SQL Server Integration Services on a computer that has no previous instances of SQL Server.
Well, my server is already installed and running in production.
Q: can I "Install Integration Services" even if I have an SQL server installed and running ?
Q: do I absolutely require to have Integration Services to automate the backups?
Q: any simple way to just dump the database every night to a folder ?
    Thanks!
    Johnny

You can use the Database Maintenance Wizard to setup a daily backup job.
BOL: "Use the Maintenance Plan Wizard
This topic describes how to create a single server or multiserver maintenance plan using the Maintenance Plan Wizard in SQL Server 2014. The Maintenance Plan Wizard creates a maintenance plan that Microsoft SQL Server Agent can run on a regular basis. This
allows you to perform various database administration tasks, including backups, database integrity checks, or database statistics updates, at specified intervals."

    Hi,
we have MII 12.0.11 and we need to access a database on Microsoft SQL Server 2008.
I need a suggestion on the driver  choice...because the Microsoft JDBC  drivers for SQL Server 2008  on the following links officially need at least JDK 5...and for what I know our MII version is based on Netweaver 7.0 on Java 1.4.

  • SAP and Database Encrption on SQL Server 2005 or 2008

Hi.  I searched as best I could for any existing threads on this topic, and could not find any, so I hope it's OK to raise a new one.
We're running SAP ECC 6.0 on a SQL 2005 database.  Database size is around 3.3 TB, with Trans Log of about 550GB, storage is HP EVA.
I've been asked to report on how Database Encryption would impact our systems, both from the perspective of enabling it initially and then how it would affect performance going forward.
I've read a few White Papers,  for example:
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/4ab89e84-0d01-0010-cda2-82ddc3548c65?QuickLink=index&overridelayout=true
.. and from what I'm reading, it looks like I would want to be moving to SQL Server 2008 as a first step.  Does anyone have any experience of implementing SQL encryption for a SAP database, either in 2K5 or 2K8?
All comments or help will be welcomed.
    Thanks

  • Difference between database features - SQL Server 2008 R2 navtive vs SQL Server 2012 with SQL Server 2008 compatibility set?

Yes there can be difference and impact there are few features deprecated in SQL Server 2012 you must be aware about that. Please see

The Error clearly shows that MDF files and LDF files are not matching or LDF file is corrupted.
You can follow either of the one option below
    1. Restore a recent backup rather attaching the MDF file
    2. Attach  single MDF file without LOG File( Warning: All the log transactions will be gone and new log file will be created)
