Database diferences

Hi all,
I've two databases with the same schema name. The first is the actual production schema and the new one contains the new version. I would to know the changes I've apply on the first one to convert it in the new one (add fields, etc). To do it, I'm using the SQL Developer (Database diferences on Tools menu).
On first step I select the two databases (old as origin and new as destiny). After it I select only tables and indexes. I select the schema and all his tables.
When I obtain the report, I see that it propose create too many tables that exist on the new database with the same name, when only needs add a new field.
I've tried repeat the process changing the origin and destiny databases on the first step but, the result still being the same.
How can I know the necessary alter tables to update my production database?
Regards,
Jordi

Hi K,
Even I am getting the table difference as Create.
I am using Database version 11.1.0.7 (both source & target) and using the Sql Developer version 2.1.63 (Nov 5 release)
This difference I see as create in older versions also (both SQL developer / Oracle databases)
My Question is :
Does the Tool take the difference of Storage parameters as I know that the tables are not having the same storage parameters.*
Thanks
Arun

  • Diferences in data from database adapter and EJB

I'm having a strange behaviour in a BPEL that uses a Database Adapter and EJJB for several database operations.
What happens is that when I create records in the database through the adapter, if I retrieve them through the EJB, the records returned do not contain the newly inserted data. It seems that there is a cache in the EJB side that is not updated when an new record is inserted. If I restart the server the records appear. this does not happen if I insert through the database adapter and retrieve thought it also.
Does anyone have a clue about this?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Pedro
What kind of code do you have in EJB to retrieve the data. Are you using the standard JNDI Lookup for datasource and then get connection object. Then run the query on this connection. If so, do you have like any Static variables declared that stores this information. Or do you use the Eclipse JPA layer that uses annotation on the Entities generated for each table. Incase if you use JPA architecture, there are some cache settings and may be that could be the reason.

  • Database Performance (Tablespaces and Datafiles)

    Hi guys!
What's the best for performance in database, tablespace with various datafiles distribuited in diferents filesystems or tablespaces with various datafiles in only one filesystem?
    Thanks,
    Augusto

It depends on contents of the tablespaces, tablespace level LOGGING/NOLOGGING and env such as either OLTP or OLAP and LUN presentation to the server with RAID or without RAID and SAN Read per second and write per second.
In general, tablespace with various datafiles distribuited in diferents filesystems/LUN's is in practice for non dev/system test databases.
Moreover using ASM is better then standard filesystems.

  • How to use a database per customer

    Hello,
I currently design an Application that shall be used by multiple customers. Every customer shall have a database by its own for security and performance reasons. What is the best way to do this:
    - Create a database schema per customer (no problem)
    - Create a persitence unit per customer in peristence.xml (also no problem)
How can I select the correct persistence manager at runtime?
    @PersistenceContect(unitName="customer14") EntityManager em;
Selects the Persistence Unit for a bean at compile time. Any idea how I can do this at runtime? I would prefer to keep with container managed Entity Managers, if this is possible.
Thanks in advance for any help.

If you mention derby, I just found Java DB which is based on derby. So whats the diference? Can anyone recommend one of them?Check them all. Try which one you like best. I think Java DB is the new name of Derby.
Personally I prefer HSQLDB, but I choose whichever you like.
And what about the Table control? Is JTable feasible? It should be configurable and extendible like this:This is an entirely different question, better asked in the Swing forum.
Also, be careful to separate your DB access from your UI code (google for MVC). It will make your application a lot easier to maintain.

  • Compare model with diferent schemas to database with diferent schemas

    Hi All,
I have some tables in diferent schemas that are equal(i.e: country table, i need this table in all the schemas) name and structure are the same but with diferences in some properties like mandatory columns,
the problem is when I try to compare with the database,
Import from datadictionary swap target model,
i select the model and select the diferent schemas in the database,
in the result, the table with the same name is compared for all the schemas in my model with the table in only one schema of the database
and at the end appears a table to be droped for the tables in the other schemas of my model,
the table comparison is giving me differences in the schema but is not comparing with the correct schema table,
I'm not sure if I'm doing something incorrectly or is just a limitation of the tool,
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Philip,
You are righ, if a select this option in the compare tab options
I could filter which elements of the model I will compare with the datadictionary,
But is not too much friendly to change this property every time I want to compare the model,
I mean, I have generated with DDL editor a file for some objects but the flag 'generated in DDL' is not changing so I need to do it manually,
I don't know if I'm not doing correctly the generation or if I have some problem with the configuration,
Could you confirm me that if I execute the generation of DDL with only one object this object will be the only one will have the flag checked??
In my opinion if could be posible to include a step in the compare way to select the objects will be more friendly for the user but is still a solution to my problem, Thanks a lot

  • Datablocks Database

    hello,
    i need your help, I m creating a database, who is difeence in block size 8 y 16 k
i take value 16 for creating tablespaces of 30GB
    thanks

    Dbb wrote:
    The diference is the size...
There are not relation between size of block and size of tablespace...
The block size is use to performance the I/O in relation of the rows size and the objects type.
    Look this:
    http://www.dba-oracle.com/s_oracle_block_size.htm
    http://www.nextre.it/oracledocs/blocksize.html
    http://www.rampant-books.com/t_oracle_blocksize_disk_i_o.htm
The third link contains a few vague generalities and some irrelevant and misleading material. The first link contains a number of bits cut-n-pasted from Metalink and the Oracle manuals which show how easy it is for even the official documentation to produce contradictory points without any intelligent support. The first link does, however, contain the following note:
    <ul>
+"Using multiple blocksizes effectively requires expert-level Oracle skills and an intimate knowledge of your I/O landscape. While deploying multiple blocksizes can greatly reduce I/O and improve response time, it can also wreak havoc in the hands of inexperienced DBA's. Using non-standard blocksizes is not recommended for beginners."+
    </ul>
It's a wild exaggeration, of course - but it contains an important element of truth. If you're a beginner you won't really know why it might be a good idea to pick a special block size for some of your data; and you probably won't be able to make an informed decision about the single best block size for you data. In such circumstances it's probably best to stick to the default block size offered by the DBCA - which is usually 8KB
The middle article contains some interesting ideas and thoughts on testing - but the results (apart from one) seem to be rather inconclusive. (larger block sizes can do better if you're using DD, but slightly worse if you're trying to do tpc-c, and so on).
There is one interesting anomaly with the tests of imp and sql*plus with the 200MB and 500MB cases tested against 4KB and 32KB - the load times for the different block sizes are so different that there's obviously a flaw in the test (which is a comment I make because (a) the laws of physics don't change with blocksize and (b) on every occasion to date when someone has demonstrated anything more than a slight variation I've been able to point out the flaw in the test.)

  • RMAN can backup/restore diferent versions of Oracle DataBases regardless OS

    Hi,
I am evaluating Recovery Manager to backup and restore Oracle databases.
I have to backup/restore diferents versions of Oracle database, these databases are running in diferents operating systems (AIX, LINUX, Windows)
    For example:
Oracle DataBase 9 in AIX 5.3 system
Oracle DataBase 10 in Lunix system
Oracle DataBase 9 in Windows system
I want to have a single RMAN server in order to backup/restore all my Oracle DataBases, is it possible?
A single RMAN server can backup/restore diferent versions of Oracle DataBases regardless the operating system?
If the answer is yes, do I need to have an specif operting system in my RMAN server? (AIX, Linux, Windows, etc.)
    Thanks for your help;

    Hi,
    Your question:
I want to have a single RMAN server in order to backup/restore all my Oracle DataBases, is it possible?
    Sounds more like a machine.
    If you would have asked:
I want to have a single RMAN recovery catalog in order to backup/restore all my Oracle DataBases, is it possible?
I would have confirmed as like the other two.
Be aware the catalog version needs to be equal or higher as the highest database version.

  • Oracle diferences

    Hello,
i have install oracle rdbms and Oracle-OraDb10g_home1, who is diference between, i want desinstall oracle rdbms but i have a database,
if desinstall oracle rdbms the database it delete's. ?? the two is install in same machine.
    Thanks

What do you mean by the statement
I remove oracle software rdbms not databaseRDBMS is an acronym for relational database management system. RDBMS is a synonym for database so you can't have removed one and not the other.
and install Oracle-OraDb10g_home1As jjk points out, that looks like the name of an Oracle Home and implies (but does not guarantee) that you installed either the 10.1 or 10.2 Oracle database in that Oracle Home. The name of an Oracle Home is just an arbitrary string that hopefully identifies why the software was installed-- you could name your Oracle Home "Oracle_OraDb10g_home1" or "Accounting" or whatever other naming convention makes sense in your environment.
i dont undertand the direrences between softwares.I'm not sure that I see where you have identified two different pieces of software that were installed. We can speculate that you probably installed either the 10.1 or the 10.2 Oracle database in one Oracle Home. I don't see anything that indicates that you installed a different piece of software or the same piece of software in a different Oracle Home.

  • Doubt about diference between SAPconsole and SAPmobile

    Hello,
I have been many doubts about diference between sapconsole and sapmobile, if anyone could help me I appreciate.
    1) I have ECC6 instaled, the SAP Mobile is compatible with ECC6 or I need of Netweaver Instaled ?
    2) If Possible to Install Sap Mobile in ECC6 , I have to Buy a license of sap mobile ?
    3) in any product instaled Windows CE have possible to install sap mobile ?
    4) In sap console what is the requirement for to do this configuration?
I Anybody to know about this informations please explain for me ?
    Thanks

    My apology,
The Basic Diference beteween SAPConsole and SAPMobile is :
    SAPConsole ==>
1 ) Don' t need a new Hardaware for to configurate
2 ) Only need a Machine with the IIS service installed
3 ) The SAPGui CD content the SAPCOnsole.exe for configuration
4 ) The equipment like Pocket and datacolletor has been to configurated in a Network( but if to have a entrance in the SAPGUi indicate a SAProuter in another factory is possible to have acesses.. ) is a mandatory. Cause the SAPCOnsle folow the SAPGUI entrances and need a LAN or a WAN configurated.
    Advantage
    simple to congurated and chip.
Easy to create to new window cause the SAPConsole only plubish this window in Browser.
    Disadvantage
Need a lincense for each Poket or Datacolletor, wherever the equipment you will use.
Doesn't have a Database  using through Browser (IE6 or IE7) this way , during the processes lost network you go to lost the information not saved.
    SAPMobile
1 ) Need the a good Machine  with a instance of SAP configurate
2 ) Have to found the EXE in the MarketPlace
3 ) is not publish, and yes a client with the database configurate in equipment
4 ) The equipment like Pocket and datacolletor has been to configurated in a Network
    Advantage
Need only one SAP License, doesn't metter how many equipment  in use you have.
As the SAPMobile has a Database in the client , if you lost the network it goes to save in the local database and when the network come back , it will to synchronize. This way you don't need to work online every moment, you get to synchronize after.
    Disadvantage
You profit in license is your lost in the Machine cause the price of Machine is expensive.
is configurate only in windows Mobile.
The window only can be create for a Developement and not in the SAP, have been created in windows Mobile.
A tip, the both is good but you can do a simple mathematics.
In the SAPConsole how much money you go to spend is the least of the Machine s Price.
If yes confurate the SAPConsole , if not configurate the SAPMobile

  • Hana is a Database or Memory and why BW on Hana?

    Dear Experts,
I have read few documents regarding Hana and I am confused?
Following is my understanding. Correct me if I am wrong in my understanding?
    1. I believe Hana is a database(a different kind of data base with Software and hardware) which stores the data and is very fast.
This Hana Database comprises of both Drive and Ram. Hana's Drive is for storing the Data permanently and Hana's Ram is where the full data from Drive is transferred to Ram and in-memory calculation happens which is very fast.
    2. I read that we can have 2 options,a Standalone Hana which reads data from SAP ERP and BW on Hana. Why do we need to have BW on Hana, we can just have Hana itself right, because even without BW its faster?
Please correct me if I am wrong.
    Regards
    Sam

    A) hana is a database, which combines memory and technology.
A common hana server has at leaste 128gb ram. why? because the tables (or columns of that tables) are loaded in memory and are consumed from there. Hana uses compresion (1:11 ratio) and use columnar tables, because it speeds up the data reading from the database.
Hana have 3 parts of storage:
    1) memory (explained above)
    2) data: the disk where data is recorded
    3) log: the disk where the last transactions are logged and it provides with recovery fails
    B) you can have diferents scenearios (I will explain some of them):
BW on hana: it speeds up the data access due to hana technology
suite on hana: ERP and BW on hana
Hana has your DW database: you can use hana like a common database and benefits your organization with the speed of hana.
    hope it helps.

  • Are SAP HANA implementations on HANA as a Database or HANA as a Modeling tool

    Hi all,
I've a general question today about the HANA as a product.
I want to know if most of the SAP HANA implementations that have been carried out in the last 3 or 4 years, were they mostly on HANA as a InMemory Database product or was it implemented as a Modelling tool. What I understand is most of the implementations on HANA have been done with HANA as a database replacing the customer's existing databases mostly Oracle or SQL Server. There are lots of case studies available on this situation. But I am not able to find any information on the clients who have chosen HANA as a Modelling tool along with HANA as a database.
In other words I am interested in knowing a rough estimate/number of customers who have implemented SAP HANA Modelling as a tool. Are there any success factors or case studies available giving facts and figures as to how customers have benefited by modelling on HANA. Assuming that the customer/s who have implemented HANA Modelling were on SAP BW 7.0 earlier I want to know how did they benefit by going for HANA Modelling using HANA Studio and why did they move from BW Modelling to HANA Modelling and what were the benefits they have reaped in.
How is it different from modelling data in BW DSOs and Cubes and MultiProviders, and modelling the same in Attribute Views, Analytic Views, Calculation views and native HANA SQL.
    Please explain.
    Thank you.

    Pavan.

    - the third error type send mail when the first time appear
    - all others send mail when appear two or more times
Is possible to implementing these metrics

    This has come up before.
The standard metric works off a perl expression.
You may be able to get most of what you want with defining different values for warning and critical thresholds, and setting up notification rules accordingly. Also remember you can consider multiple users in grid and uder defined metrics

  • Diference between RAC and Grid

    I have 9i r2 RAC.
What is the diference between 10G RAC and 10g Grid?
What are my options to migrate?
What are the advantages and disadvantages between migrating to 10g RAC or migrating to 10g Grid?

A lot of the differences are cosmetic. Parallel server in 8i became RAC in 9i became Grid in 10g. There is no such thing as 9i Parallel Server, nor is there such a thing as 10g RAC, at least from a marketing standpoint. Once you understand that, the major differences are incremental-- 10g is probably more maintainable and easier to set up than 9i, 10g is probably more scalable as well.
Migration is just a database upgrade. The upgrade guide will enumerate your options.
