Photosmart 7520 I lost wireless scanning

I was scanning documents with the PS 7520 and Adobe Pro XI, when for no apparent reason, I lost the ability to scan.  I received the following error message - "Error while interacting with the scanner: the selected scanner was not found."  The printer/scanner has been properly set up within Windows and the device is shown as selected.  I have been able to gain back the scanning functionality by rebooting and updating the printer IP address.  Wireless printing of documents appeared to be unaffected.
My question is ... what happened, why, and what do I need to do if this problem occurs again?

if you search this forum you will find many posts about the 7520 having intermittant wireless connectivity affecting scanning, etc.
would suggest that you CALL HP SUPPORT and start a case.
if your printer is new, in the short term you should be able to return the printer to the store for a refund....
however, in the long term, at a minimum, having a case opened may provide some level of financial protection for yourself in the event this keeps happening (and it likely will)..
so you will have some ability to request for HP to issue a warranty exchange or refund.

  • Can't scan to PDF file on HP Photosmart 7520 printer

I have two HP Photosmart 7520 printers  - one in my home and one at summer home.  On one when I scan I get the option of document or photo and PDF or jpeg.  On the other printer, I am not given any options and it automatically scans into a jpeg file.  How can I get the PDF format option to work on printer number 2?

    Hi @healthdesigner,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that you cannot scan to PDF on your HP Photosmart 7520 printer. I am happy to help you with your scanning!
For further assistance, I will need some additional information:
If the printer is connected, Wireless, Ethernet, or USB.
If you are using a Windows or Mac Operating System, and the version number. To find the exact version, visit this link. Whatsmyos.
If the power cable is plugged into a surge protector, or directly to the wall outlet. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
If the printer is able to make copies.

  • Slow scanning with photosmart 7520

I am scanning a bunch of old photos for a collage.   Often you hear the scanner quickly scan the photo.  Then it gets hung up for a long time showing a partial of the photo and a box that says "scanning" and a green progress bar.  Sometimes it hangs up for 1 - 2 minutes.  Some pictures only a few seconds.  They are all about the same size photos.  I am scanning on 200 dpi.  Why does it take so much longer on most of the photos?

    Hello @rmayes,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're experiencing a slow scanning issue when scanning from your HP Photosmart 7520 e-All-in-One Printer to your Windows 7 computer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue. Thank you for including that you are scanning your photos on 200 dpi. Rather than a printer, driver, or software issue I do believe that we're dealing with a connectivity issue or a firewall issue. When you print only 1-way communication is used. The computer sends the print command to the printer and the printer will then print the job. However, when you scan 2-way communication is required as the computer and printer send the scanned data back and forth until the full image is on the computer for you to work with. Because of this slow scanning issue I believe that something is interfering with the 2-way communication.
In order to provide you with accurate support I will need to clarify how your HP Photosmart is connected to your computer (USB, Wireless)?
In the meantime, I am going to have you run an MSConfig on your computer. This will allow us to temporarily disable all the background programs from running on your computer. Once the background programs are temporarily disabled I will have you test scanning again to verify if the speeds are faster. If the speed is faster with the background programs disabled than that will tell us that there is definitely a program on your computer causing this issue. Please follow the steps below.
    Click on your Start menu
In the 'search programs and files' box right above Start, type msconfig and hit enter on your keyboard
When the System Configuration Window opens select 'Selective Startup' and uncheck Load Startup Items
Click the Services tab. Check the box at the bottom for Hide All Microsoft Services
    Select Disable All
    Select Apply and OK
    Restart your computer when prompted
Once your computer comes back on please test scanning again.
Please respond to this post with the result of running the MSConfig. Should the issue persist be sure to let me know how your printer is connected to your computer. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • HP Photosmart 7520 printer window displays "Loading" can't copy/scan/fax from printer.

Our power went out approximately five days ago.  Once the power came back on I unplugged our computer and printer, replugged them in tried to restart each.  We are set up wireless....through our landline phone service and satelite TV.  The PC works fine, I can print from the PC with the HP Photosmart 7520 printer and it prints fine.  However, the printer does not display any functions in the printer screen.  I am unable to get it to come back so that I can copy/scan/fax.  The printer window just keeps displaying the word "Loading" and the circle keeps going around on the printer screen (for 3 hours today.....same thing before....I keep shutting the printer down and retrying to no avail)  We did get a message of some error "syntec" not connected.  We have no idea what that is.  Everything is connected exactly how it was prior to our power going out.  The printer is just over a year old.  We seem to keep having issues of various kinds with this printer. We are not very tech savy but, can usually get things accomplished on our PC and we have used the printer often to copy/scan/fax.  Thanks for any help, much appreciated.

Welcome back to the HP Community @logger2 !
I saw your post about how ever since your power went out, the display on the printer will not function properly, causing you to not be able to scan, copy, or fax. My best suggestion would be to try another power reset (below), and if the screen still does not work properly, to contact us directly to see what your replacement options are for another printer.
    Reset Instructions:
Press the Power button to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.
Make sure the printer is plugged in directly to the wall outlet, avoiding power bars and surge protectors. This ensures the printer is receiving full power.

  • HP Photosmart 7520 not connected to computer when trying to scan

    Hi!!
I have an IMac.  I can print from my computer, and my computer recognizes my printer (HP Photosmart 7520), however, my printer will not connect to my iMac...Help!  ;-)
When I am trying to scan, the exact warning is:  "No Connection:  No computer is connected.  See printer Help and documentation to troubleshoot the connection."
When I go to printer Help and doc, it says to install the HP software on my computer.
I already went through most of the troubleshooting steps I could find (on my computer and online) - they only dealt with my computer not recognizing my printer...not vice versa...
The little bluetooth light is lit and going strong...
    Thanks in advance!!!

  • HP Photosmart 7520 - Cannot Scan to email, says I have no connection

    Hello,
I am having problems with the scan to email option. The printer is connected to internet and all the apps work on the printer screen. I've tried shutting it off (both wifi and printer) and turning it on again. I also tried changing the DNS Address Configuration, but nothing works. This is the only problem I am having because I can print wirelessly from my Mac and I can even scan to my Mac. I've had this printer for a year and I've used the scan to email option many times and this is the first time its failed me. Please let me know what else I can do.
    Thank you.

    Hi @NGP84,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums.  I see that you are unable to use the scan to email feature of your Photosmart 7520 printer.
If you haven’t already set a manual IP address and manual DNS servers, please do so.  If you are unsure how to do this I have included another post, with screen shots, on how to do this.  Please do not worry that the screen shots show a Photosmart 7510 printer, the steps are the same.
If you have already set a manual IP address and manual DNS servers and are still unable to use the scan to email feature, please call HP’s Cloud Services at 1-855-785-2777 if you live in the USA/Canada region. • HP Photosmart 7520 scan to email not working / working only once in a while

I have read through all of the answers that I can find as to how to fix the scan to email function on my printer.  The printer is only a couple of months old.  I am using a Mac.  I need this to work.  The problem is that while I always receive the emails, they don't always have the scan attached to them.  Sometimes, but not always.
When I scan one page, it works.  When I scan 10 pages, it works about half the time.  When I scan 25 pages, as I sometimes do, it doesnt' work.
HP, please fix this !  It worked just fine a couple of weeks ago!

    Hi Machta,
Welcome to the HP Support forums.  I see that your scan to email feature of your Photosmart 7520 seems to be inconsistent when attaching the scanned documents to the email.
Please start by assigning a manual IP address and manual DNS servers to your printer.  If you are unsure how to do this please click here.  It will take you to another post I’ve done that has the steps with screen shots.  Don’t fret that the screen shots are for a Photosmart  7510 printer, the steps are the same.

  • Photosmart 7520 on wireless network no longer recognized by laptop

The printer was fully functional on my wireless network, accessible by phone, tablet & laptop. Now it is not recognized by the laptop but still usable by other devices through the wireless network. The laptop is Windows 7 professional. The laptop and printer are both on the same (only) wireless network. I uninstalled the printer and driver from the laptop, temporarily disabled Norton Antivirus, then tried to install a new driver but installation failed. I repeated the entire process again, with the same results. What else should I try?

    Hi @SaMi4,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that your HP Photosmart 7520 that is on a wireless network, is no longer recognized by your laptop. I am sorry to hear about this, but I am happy to help!
I would recommend this printing guide, 'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the Printer Does Not Print: Windows 7.

    Welcome to the HP Forum.
The following applies to Windows OS.
Know that a recent Update for this printer (mid-August 2014) has resolved some disconnection issues.  If you have not done so for a while, please consider reinstalling the Full Feature Software for your printer.
    Try / Consider:
    Full Feature Software:
Install Full Feature Software – Photosmart 7520
    Go to  your printer panel:
Click the ePrint button (top left button) and check for Updates.
If your printer needs the Updates, it will search them out and download them.
    ===========================================================================
If the issue is only one of the jobs being stuck in the printer queue on the computer, then the following might help:
    The direct approach:
Open a Windows Explorer (called File Explorer in Windows 8.x)
    Navigate to folder: C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS **
Delete any files you find in the PRINTERS folder
** When you try to click into the PRINTERS folder, you may see a warning message about permission, Click through and / or enter the Administrator level password to gain access to the folder
One method to restart the spooler:
Control Panel > icon view > Administrative Tools > Services >
Click on Name to sort the column alphabetically  (optional) >
Scroll down and look for Print spooler > Highlight / Left-Click Print Spooler >

  • Color scanning problem with Photosmart 7520

I can not get my new Photosmart 7520 to scan in color.
The device scans to PDF, sending the file directly to my Mac computer but when I open the file the document is in b/w.
Everything else about the process works fine.
What should I do to capture color?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi Magnusho,
Im suspecting that the default mode for the PDF is Grayscale/Black and White. To verify this, follow steps below:
    1. Double click /Applications/Hewlett-Packard/HP Utility
    2. Click "Scan to computer"
    3. Click "Edit Scan Task..." button
    4. Hp Scan wil launch and will open Preferences window
    5. Select "Document (PDF)" or shortcuts that contains PDF
    6. Click "Edit" button.
    7. Click "Show Details" button. Scan Presets will display.
    8.Check the Mode?
If the mode is in "Grayscale/Black and White" then thats the reason why the scan output is not color. If you want colored scan output, change the mode to Color. Then click "OK" button.
    Try scanning again.

  • HP Support Assistant not able to print/scan with my HP photosmart B-209a-m wireless

I am running Windows 7 (64 bit) and rencently my photosmart B-209a-m wireless is not responding when I try to scan or print.  I just downloaded the print and scan doctor and I am getting a port match errror.  Do you have any suggestions for how I can resolve this issue?
    Thank you,

I think your router has issued a new IP address for your printer and the Win software can no longer find the printer.
Let's set a static (non-changing) IP address for the printer:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
    - Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS. This is Google DNS. You can choose another external DNS if you wish.
    - Click 'Apply'.
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
Next, go to Start > Control Panel > Devices and Printers and delete all instances of the printer.
Finally, re-add the printer in this manner:
    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing. Get its IP from a Network Test printed from the front panel of the printer.
    2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Devices & Printers.
    3. Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's IP address. Click Next.
    7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. You may be asked to share the printer. Choose NO.
    11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
    12. Click Finish.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Photosmart 7520--can't set up to wireless network

I set up photosmart 7520 on wireless network just fine out of the box.  a few days ago I couldn't print to it and now can't reset up on wireless network to print. Help!!!

    Hey jonathanray,
I see you are having an issue getting your printer to connect to your home network.  This thread is about the Photosmart 7520.  Is this the model printer you are working with?
You mention resetting the printer.  Did you simply power cycle the unit to Hard Reset the device or what type of reset did you perform?
Have you tried restoring the network defaults of the printer to see if it can connect after performing a Hard Reset to all devices in the network connection?
Follow these steps to reset your HP printer, your wireless router, and your computer.
Press the Power button on the HP printer to turn it off.
Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the HP printer.
Disconnect the power cord from the wireless router.
    Turn off the computer.
    Wait 30 seconds.
Reconnect the power cord to the wireless router.
Wait 30 seconds, or until the router is fully on and ready.
    Turn the computer back on.
Wait for the computer to reload.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the HP printer.
    Turn the printer back on.
Press the Setup menu option on the front panel of the printer
    Select the Wireless submenu
Scroll to the bottom of the list and select "Restore Network Defaults"
Select Yes on the next screen
After performing these steps try connecting the printer again using the Wireless Setup Wizard in the Wireless submenu of the Setup menu again.  Does this help get the unit connected?
What brand/model of router are you using?  What is the name of the company that provides your internet service?
Let me know how this goes and the answers to these questions and I will do my best to provide continued support,
    Jason
