Database Migration using ASM
Hello All,
We are using oracle database 10g on AIX. We are using asm for storage on a shared location.
Now we want to move our database from old servers to new servers.
I want to know if we could use the same asm based datafiles for new database to avoide database data migration. Can we switch our database from one server to another and use the same datafiles??? or we have to migrate our database by RMAN or expdp etc???
we want to move 9 Tb database from tru64 and filesystem to solaris and asm on 10.2.0.3, we will be testing RMAN with CONVERT;

so do you have any experience with the source and the target OS different case, like source as Tru64 and destination as Solaris;

IBM DB2 to Oracle Database Migration Using SQL Developer
Hi,
We are doing migration of the whole database from IBM DB2 8.2 which is running in WINDOWS to Oracle 11g Database in LINUX.
As part of pre-requisites we have installed the Oracle SQL Developer 4.0.1 (4.0.1.14.48) in Linux Server with JDK 1.7. Also Established a connection with Oracle Database.
Questions:
1) How can we enable the Third Party Database Connectivity in SQL Developer?
I have copied the files db2jcc.jar and db2jcc_license_cu.jar from the IBM DB2 (Windows) to Oracle (Linux)
2) Will these JAR files are universal drivers? will these jar files will support in Linux platform?
3) I got a DB2 full privileged schema name "assistdba", Shall i create a new user with the same name "assistdba" in the Oracle Database & grant DBA Privillege? (This is for Repository Creation)
4) We have around 35GB of data in DB2, shall i proceed with ONLINE CAPTURE during the migration?
5) Do you have any approx. estimation of Time to migrate a 35 GB of data?
6) In-case of any issue during the migration activity, shall i get an support from Oracle Team (We have a Valid Support ID)?
7) What are all the necessary Test Cases to confirm the status of VALID Migration?
Request you to share the relevant metalink documents!!!

We have seen only "Missing" in the chart, also we couldn't have any option to trace it in Log file.
Only after the status is VALID, we can proceed with the Translation & Migration PHASE.
Kindly help us how to approach this issue now.

How to make a physical copy of database when using ASM
I used to make a physical copy of production database
every night to create test environment. I have
simply physically copied files, recreated control file,
... to create it.
But on 10g I want to use ASM, is there some way
to do physical copy of the database similar way?You can not directly to duplicate a regular database that does not use ASM into new one that does not use ASM. The problem with ASM is that you can not see the files directly at the disk level.
If you use RMAN you could use the command duplicate and all would be easier.

New 11.2 database instalation using ASM
Hello peeps,
My unix team has asked me how many mount points i would like on the unix system? Normally i use OFA of /u01, /u02, /u03, /u04
With this new database i will be installing dataguard using ASM. So my question is : what do i tell the Unix team for mount points?

The answer might not have helped you as such. ASM is totally different from what you were used to in normal NFS or RAW. It talkes a lot more to configure and you need to know what you are doing. If this is a production system, I would suggest that you get hold of a decent book on ASM as the guide suggested might not be adequate for a full fledge Prod installation for an ASM newbie. ASM allows you to present LUNs or disks to the database is a much more different manner than you might be used to.

I am planning to do a database migration from 8.0.6 to 10.2.0.4. I am using export/import. Please answer some of my queries:
1) Do i need to do full export using SYS/SYSTEM user.
exp80 system/manager file=c:full.dmp log=c:\full.txt full=y consistent=y
2) Will there be any data corruption while export.
3) Is export/import the only method of migration/upgradation.

1) Do i need to do full export using SYS/SYSTEM user.
exp80 system/manager file=c:full.dmp log=c:\full.txt full=y consistent=yA full export will move as much information (metadata/data) as possible. In order to do a full export/import, you need to do this from a
privileged account. A privileged account is one with EXP_FULL_DATABASE for export and IMP_FULL_DATABASE for import.
2) Will there be any data corruption while export.The data in the objects that you are exporting is being read, nothing is written to user data. I'm not sure what this is available in 8.0.6,
but if you need a consistent export, look to see if consistent=y is available in 8.0.6. All this means is that the dump file created will have
consistent data in it.
3) Is export/import the only method of migration/upgradation.If you are changing hardware, the only supported way from 8.0 to 10.2.0.4, that I know of, is using exp/imp.

I never did oracle 11gr2 installation using ASM and I need to install Oracle software on standalone server and then create database 11g Release 2.
I have following doubts:
1. Do we need to install Grid infrastructure software for standalone server as well ?
2. Does Grid Infrastructure software comes separately or alongwith DB software ?
3.Is Grid software same for RAC and standalone server setup ?
4.Do we need to create user Grid for installation of Grid for standalone server as well ?
can anyone give me full steps from scratch ?

MOSS 2007 Database Migration using SQL connection alias change throwing error

We are trying to move SharePoint SQL server from one DC to another DC.
Since we have made SQL server in new DC with other name so opted SQL server connection alias method to remap SQL mapping with existing farm.
After creating SQL alias we are able to browse central admin sites but could not able to browse any other sharepoint sites.
Event viewer showing below exception
SQL database login failed. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below.
Login failed for user 'computername$'.
Any view will be much appreciable.
RegardsFirst: Putting SQL Server on a domain controller is not recommended.
Are the two domain controllers in different domains? Is the SharePoint server in the same domain as the new SQL instance?
Do you have a SharePoint farm or a standalone installation? A
common cause of the error you're seeing is if the application pools are using Network Service or Local System which can be the case of a standalone installation.

Trouble using asm instance for new database
I have an asm instance and am trying to create a new database that will use the asm storage. I'm using dbca to create the new database. This is a test system on windows so I'm using the asmtool -create flatfiles for disks with the asmallow_only_raw_disks parameter set to false.
If I have #SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NTS) commented out in my sqlnet.ora, then I can't get into asmcmd:
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges (DBD ERROR: OCISessionBegin)
and dbca won't create the new database that uses asm because the dbca gets the same 01031 error when trying to create the control files for that database.
If I have SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NTS) NOT commented out, the I can get into asmcmd, but I can't startup the databases using sys, even though I am sitting at the server,
AND, dbca won't create the new database that uses asm becuase the dbca can't start the instance
credential retrieval failure.
I'm in a catch 22. Something is not right with my system but I just can't seem to figure out what it is.
The asm instance does have a password file.I let the dbca create scripts and am currently walking through the scripts. I think it's my asm database that is actually creating the problem. I did the orapwd and oradim manually and can startup nomount the instance just fine. The create database statement fails on creating the controlfile but it's saying it already exists. I suspected the dbca form wasn't giving me all the errors like it should.

Restore Database to non-ASM Storage - Issue with Bigfile Tablespace
I have been testing a restore of my prod database that uses ASM (and oracle managed files) for storage to a different server and non-ASM storage. Oracle version is 10g EE. My database has one bigfile tablespace and it's datafile is about 250GB. The restore fails and it has something to do with the bigfile tablespace.
Here is the rman restore script:

Why at the beginning is it "creating" datafile 11? Then it doesnt even say it is "restoring" that datafile. Only restoring datafiles 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,12,13,14,15, and 16.
When it creates datafile 11 it is only 26GB, that is much smaller than it should be according to v$datafile view on source prod database. Also even though it says it is creating datafile 11 as /ora02/db/ehr/apollolob01.dbf it actually creates it as an oracle managed file at /ora02/db/ehr/EHR/datafile/o1_mf_apollolo_6crxyqs2_.dbf
After the datafiles are restored the "switch datafile all" command fails:

So my question is how do I get this database restored to non-ASM (and non omf)?So I tried using a different scn with my "set until scn #####" then the restore created 2 datafiles. The datafile for apollolob and apollotab02.dbf. So I think I have narrowed the problem to be that I am not using the correct scn number so RMAN can successfully restore those datafiles and recreates them instead. How do I find the correct scn to use to do a successful restore of the entire database? I have seen different methods on the web, but cant figure it out. Ive used "select archivelog_change#-1 from v$database;" and I also did "list backup of archivelog all" and used the latest sequence number. How can I find the correct scn to use so the entire database will restore?

I'm upgrading my 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.1 on RHEL5.4.
I start up the 11.2 dbua, and select the database to upgrade, then dbua pops up a box that says:
"The database is using ASM as storage. Before you upgrade the database, you need to upgrade ASM using Automatic Storage Configuration Assistant (ASMCA) from grid infrastructure home. Starting 11gR2, ASM should be running from grid infrastructure home"
The problem is.... I am not running ASM.
Any reasons why dbua is complaining about this, and how I can get past it?

Log transport failing to standby host , target using ASM.
Hi,
Please help me in the following scenario. I have two nodes ASM1 & ASM2 with RHEL4 U5 OS. On node ASM1 there is database ORCL using ASM diskgroups DATA & RECOVER and archive location is on '+RECOVER/orcl/'. On ASM2 node, I have to configure STDBYORCL (standby) database without ASM (i.e. on FS). I have taken the copy of database ORCL via RMAN, using following command:

Unfortunately, log transport service is not working and archives are not getting shipped to standby host.

Can't create database using ASM (SOLVED)
Hi all
I'm trying to use ASM for the first time, on Oracle 10.2.0.1 on Solaris x64.
I have installed the ASM instance into /opt/oracle/asm/10.2.0 and created disk groups. I have cssd running OK. I am able to start and stop the ASM instance without problems, and I can select from v$asm_diskgroup to confirm that disks are mounted OK.
I have then installed Oracle EE separately into /opt/oracle/server/10.2.0. I first did a software only install, and now I am trying to create a DB.
The problems come when I try to use this ASM instance to host a new database. I first tried to use DBCA to create a new database, but on database creation I got the following errors:
ORA-00200: control file could not be created
ORA-00202: control file: '+DBLIVE1'
ORA-17502: ksfdcre:4 Failed to create file +DBLIVE1
ORA-15001: diskgroup "DBLIVE1" does not exist or is not mounted
ORA-15055: Message 15055 not found; No message file for product=RDBMS, facility=ORA
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
I then told DBCA just to create the DB creation scripts, and I tried manually running these with SQL*Plus.
When doing it with SQL*PLus, I initially got the same error as shown above. But then something changed (sorry, not sure what), and now the error I get is:

ORA-00349: failure obtaining block size for '+DBLIVE1'
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
I've put some debug info below, showing me succesfully connecting to the ASM instance and then attempting to create the DB using the db creation scripts, showing the error at the end. You can see that the oracle OS user is able to connect fine to ASM, then I swithc ORACLE_SID and ORACLE_HOME to the EE install and try to create the DB, at which point it apparently can't connect to ASM any more.
I've tried the DB creation many times, and in between attempts I completely empty $ORACLE_HOME/admin/<dbname> and delete the files related to the attempted install from $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/ . I've also stopping/starting ASM, rebooting, and I've done the install of ASM and EE a couple of times over in case I made any mistakes in my earlier attempts.
Any help would be much appreciated!

The basic error is this:
ORA-00200: control file could not be created
ORA-00202: control file: '+DBLIVE1'

However if my init.ora contains the line:
control_files=/opt/oracle/server/10.2.0/dbs/cntrlNEONREL1.dbf
then I instead get the second error:

ORA-00349: failure obtaining block size for '+DBLIVE1'

So basically these must be the same error, just in the second case I'm not trying to put the control file on the ASM so it fails at a different point.

I installed Grid Infrastructure with grid user:

The big issue is... that the DBCA can not see the diskgroups. When I choose ASM Storage it can not see them. It shows the chart in blank and if i try to write the disk group, so the following message appears: can not use ASM for database storage due to following reason: Could not connect to ASM due to following error: ORA-01034 ORACLE not available

Really the problem initially was because of this:
[INS-06006] Passwordless SSH connectivity not set up between the following node(s): [node1, node2]. CVU may reports "PRVF-4007 : User equivalence check failed for user "user"" for same error
and I had to install node1 first and after node2 manually and perhaps for this the product was not well linked.
I resolved the problem establishing the keys with the wizard and after copying the following files from node1 to node2
/home/grid/.ssh -------> /home/grid/.ssh
authorized_keys
known_hosts
This is the procedure if you run the wizard at the node1.
The problem is that the wizard creates the keys incompletely...
