Database Splitting

Hi,
I would like to know if we can split the company database according to posting periods. One of my clients doesn't want to keep more than two years of data visible. He wants to split the database and store the older transactions separately. This is possible in some of the other applications e.g. Tally accounting software (India). How can we achieve this through SAP B1? Or can we do it through SQL?
Thanks,
Amol.

There is no 100% solution for this, because SBO is continuos system and for example datas in invoice lines are linked to order lines and when order is created in previous posting period, SBO will falls.
You may create new company, set all necessary values in accounts, create opened documents and start - but you cannot have there documents for last 2 years.

    Note:All 4 unit working seperatly
    Thanks and regards
    Rahul

    Hi
First of all u cant generate Balance sheet for all four units seperately.....(TB and P&L can be generated sep. if u have maintained Profit centres...) BY using some of tools this also we can achieve but not in std. sbo.
For connecting all Four units u should have Brooad band connection to access the server. In India most of the time the Broadband will be slow r down only....
All customers Balances  can be seen by other branch peoples also.......
Unwanted Masters which is not belongs to other branch also will be availlable to everyone.anyway that can be filltered...

  • MS Access 2010 Database can not be compacted

MS Access 2010 be can not be compacted
We have have MS access database size is closed to 2G. And user can't to compact the database. Is there a way to result the problem?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Could you please tell us how do you compact Access database? You can follow these suggestions to compact it again.
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/access-help/compact-and-repair-a-database-HA010341740.aspx
Is the database split? Front End or Back End? If split is it the Front End or Back End that won't compact. If not split, most likely you have corrupted mdb file.
Or you can try to create a new database and import all of the database objects from the old database into the new database to check if it works.

  • How to reduce size of a huge table in Access

We have an Access mdb file that is getting too large.  It is about 1.7 GB, and will probably hit 2.0 GB in two or three months.  It has already been compacted.  There are only two tables, and 99% is from just one of the two tables, which has
about 8.4 million records.  What are some strategies I could use to reduce the file size?  I've already done the database splitting strategy.  This is one of three back-end files in the split set.  I think some users might have Access 2003,
so if you have a solution that is unique to Access 2007/2010, I'm not sure if it will be viable or not.

Here it is.  Your question prompted me to change the datatype on Account and Fiscal Year, which were previously Text.  That reduced the size by 0.1 GB, but I definitely need to make further improvement.

  • The operating system returned error 21(failed to retrieve text for this error. Reason: 15105

    Hello everybody,
I have a huge database over windows 2003 server and sql server 2008 r2, all of them with all update, no firewall, no antivirus, no any server feature/role installed.
Over the last 2 months I suddently start getting the following error:
The operating system returned error 21(failed to retrieve text for this error. Reason: 15105) to SQL Server during a read at offset 0x000000000da000 in file 'S:\TempDB\tempdb.mdf'. Additional
messages in the SQL Server error log and system event log may provide more detail. This is a severe system-level error condition that threatens database integrity and must be corrected immediately. Complete a full database consistency check (DBCC CHECKDB).
This error can be caused by many factors; for more information, see SQL Server Books Online.
I have the TEMP database split over 5 partitions on 5 different SAN disk.  beggining size of each partition fix to 20 GB with autogrow 10%.  Single Instance, around 15 DB.
The space on each hard disk does not reach 60%.
I got the above error when all temp files reach 27 GB approx.
I already ran a check disk, checkDB and everything says no error found, but I still got same error.
Does anyone know what could cause something like this?
note, when getting the above error, the only way to fix it, because I cannot do any select on any DB is to restart the service, so each temp file start again at 20 GB and everythign seems to be fine until reach the size again.

  • Deleted/Creating whole infocube

    Hello all,
Upon deleting and trying to recreate entire infocubes, I am having a database space issues. Tablespace PSAPSID keeps getting filled up.
Can someone please point out what maybe causing this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Iqbal

    Hi Iqbal,
Before finding & solving problem, we have to know some ins outs.
    Here is
Indexing & Tablespace is about database . Indexing is common for any database. But in specially table space word is used in oracle database. In table space u can find ur data files of database where ur logical database split. and ... In Oracle database a tablespace is a logical group of data files in a database. A typical database contains at least one tablespace, and usually two or more. In a database, a tablespace plays a role similar to that of a folder on the hard drive of a computer.
In SAP 640 we are having Tablespace like :
    PSAPSID
    PSAPSID640
    PSAPSIDUSR
    PSAPTEMP
    PSAPUNDO
    SYSTEM
If ur table space PSAPSID keep filling then you have to add Datafile or resize it.
we can add datafile in two ways
    A. by using Brtools:
    1) su – ora<sid>
    2) start brtools
    3) Select option 2 -- Space management
    4) Select option 1 -- Extend tablespace
    5) Select option 3 --Tablespace name (specify tablespace name) and say continue(c- cont)
    6) Select option 3 – New data file to be added and return
    7) Select option 5 -- Size of the new file in MB (specify the size of the file) and say continue
B.To add datafile please do as specified below.
1.If yours is unix login as ora<SID> and type brtools at command prompt.
2.in the menu select 2,space management
3.in the next menu select 1.extend table space
3.In the next menu select 3,tablespace name and it prompts for the name and type PSAPUNDO.
    4.CONTINUE
    5.CONTINUE
6.you will get the following screen.
Options for extension of tablespace PSAPUNDO (1. file)
    1 * Last added file name (lastfile) ....... [/oracle/CRD/sapdata2/undo_1/undo.d
    ata1]
2 * Last added file size in MB (lastsize) . [6800]
3 - New file to be added (file) ........... [/oracle/CRD/sapdata2/undo_2/undo.d
    ata2]
    4 ~ Raw disk / link target (rawlink) ...... []
5 - Size of the new file in MB (size) ..... [6800]
6 - File autoextend mode (autoextend) ..... [no]
7 # Maximum file size in MB (maxsize) ..... [10000]
8 # File increment size in MB (incrsize) .. [20]
9 - SQL command (command) ................. [alter tablespace PSAPUNDO add data
file '/oracle/CRD/sapdata2/undo_2/undo.data2' size 6800M autoextend off]
7.choose 5 if you want to specify size of Datafile. Also check whether enough space is available at OS level to add this datafile.(use df -k "path of directoy" to check space
8.click on continueand it will take few minutes to add the datafile and your tablespace is now extended!
You can execute this when SAP is Up and running,no need to stop SAP or DB
Hope it helps,if yes pls reward!

  • Filter by form shows only "Is Null" and "Is Not Null" value in split database

    Hello,
I have a SPLIT database into FE (forms, queries...) and BE (tables with data) ready for distribution.
    PROBLEM
When "Filter by Form" is chosen
only 2 values are available in combobox filter ("Is Null", "Is Not Null"). All other functionalities of the form work fine (data display), which means that tables are linked
    correctly.
In the UNSPLIT database "Filter by Form" works OK (i.e. comboboxes show lists of possible values to choose from).
All the forms (and queries) behave like this.
Recordsource of all forms are queries.
Type of filtered fields => text (no memo fields, no comboboxes)
    QUESTION:
What is the reason of this behavior and how can it be fixed so that "Filter by Form" works in SPLIT database (and displays available values in comboboxes)?
    Thank you for help.

    Hi,
this is the default behaviour with linked tables. To change it:
open the form in design view
select the text box you want to use for the filter
in the properties of the text box click at the data tab and change the FilterLookUp property from "Database default" to "Always"

  • Split database

I plan to move several schemas (e.g. applications) from one database to a new other database (does not exists yet).
Database version is 10.2.0.4 for both.
The target will be that about 10-20 schemas with about 120 GB of data are then in the new Database. The old database will keep around 250 GB in about 5-10 schemas. Both databases will probably run on the same physical machine. I would like to find a way to do this split with as little downtime as possible.
Do you have any ideas how to accomplish this? Any comments regarding risks and advantages are welcome.
Currently I'm considering three different ways, but maybe there are more options.
    Way 1) Traditional export/import
    - create new db
    - export schemas on old Db with expdp (downtime starts)
    - import schemas on new Db with impdb
    - lock / drop users on old Db (downtime ends)
    Way 2) Database Copy
    - create new db
    - copy DB from RMAN backup
    - lock / drop users on old Db (downtime ends)
Not sure if it is possible to do a running copy. To create the new DB including online backups up to the most recent point. Kind of Standby Db.
    Way 3) Datafile/Tablespace Copy
    - create new Db
    - move objects in old DB to some transport tablespace (this can be done partially at less used hoursm no downtime yet).
    - stop old db (downtime starts)
    - copy/move datafiles/tablespace from old to new
    - lock / drop users on old Db (downtime ends)
Any comments/suggestions are welcome. of cause the whole thing will be tested before the production database is touched.

I'm not too familiar with RMAN. Of cause if we clone the DB from some RMAN backup we will have only the data from backup point.
Of cause as long as the database is running there are hundreads of transactions going on. I will probably need to stop all transactions at some specified time. Is it possible to create a copy up to that time and will it take long? Or more precicly asked. How can I minimize the time needed for the cloning process? The only way I can think to minimize the cloning process is to take a backup as close to the time you start the clone as possible. In addition, only clone the required tablespaces.
Is it possible to clone the new DB at night and then to do a point in time recovery using the backups from the old Db. So that the downtime is only 10-30 minutes at noon. No, from the documentation:
You may want to synchronize a duplicate database with the original database that was duplicated. The solution is to run the DUPLICATE DATABASE command again, essentially re-creating the duplicate database. My suggestion:
    1. Determine the set of tablespaces that are going to be moved to the new database.
    2. Set this set of tablespaces to read only, maybe sometime at night.
    3. Take an RMAN backup immediately after.
    4. Build duplicate based off of this backup.
    5. Enable write on the tablespaces in the new database.
    6. Point users at new database.
    7. Enjoy :)
It still results in down time unfortunately, but maybe allowing them to read data is sufficient.

  • Can we split and fetch the records in Database Adapter

    Hi,
I designed a Database Adapter to fetch the records from oracle Database. Some time, the Database Adapter need to fetch around 5000, or 10,000 records in single shot. In that case my BPEL process is choking and getting error as
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space at java.util.Arrays.copyOf(Arrays.java:2882) at java.lang.AbstractStringBuilder.expandCapacity(AbstractStringBuilder.java:100)
Could someone help me to resolve this?
In Database Adapter can we split and fetch the records, if number of records more then 1000.
ex. First 100 rec as one set and next 100 as 2nd set like this.
    Thank you.

You can send the records as batches useing the debatching feature of db adapter. Refer documentation for implementation details.

  • Uploading Access split database to Sharepoint Site.

Hi, I'm having trouble finding instructions on how exactly you would upload a split database to SharePoint. If I split my database locally i can't then move the back end.
I want to upload my the back end of the Access database to "mysitesname".sharepoint.com I have full admin privileges but the only place I see to upload a file is the "shared documents" area of the site which I presume would only be useful
for hosting the front end for users to download. Trying to split the database to the site by using it's URL "https://"mysitesname".sharepoint.com/SitePages/Home.aspx" nd variations results in access telling me the site could not be reached.
I'm sure this is something simple to do and I'm just missing some critical piece of information.

Thank you for the reply but I'm not using a web database or web app. I should have mentioned I solved the problem yesterday.
A split database is simpler than I thought, mine is just a standard access database with linked tables. You share your file (front end) around and the back end is just a bunch of SharePoint lists if you are using SharePoint or an access file containing tables
    if using a file server.
My problem was that I couldn't upload my back end to SharePoint. I ended up making my tables into SharePoint lists and uploading those to my personal SharePoint folder as the team site didn't allow me to upload them.

  • Splitting large sql database files

    Hi
I have large sap sql server data files having size in 40 GB/ 3 data files. Is there any way to split those data files into smaller size  .
    Thanks and Regards
    Jijeesh

    Hi Jijesh,
There is a way of splitting files without hampering performance, I have done this on a production system without loss of performance.
All data files in MSSQL belong to a FILE Group, suppose there are 4 datafiles in your database each of 4GB, assume all files belong to the same filegroup.
    file1.mdf
    file2.mdf
    file3.mdf
    file4.mdf
and you want to split each into 2 GB datafiles here is what you do.
(Before starting Take Complete Offline backup of your database by stopping SAP and performing a full offline backup of all data and log files.
This operation technically could be performed with SAP Up and running , however its safer to keep database idle when doing a reorg, so stop SAP instance and do the following.)
    1.We select the file file1.mdf
2.Add 2 new files to the same filegroup as file1.mdf and name them as file1a.mdf and file1b.mdf of size 2GB each.
3.RESTRICT growth on all rest files (file2.mdf, file3.mdf and file4.mdf) by unchecking the Auto grow option.
    4. Open the SQL Analyser and give the command:
    <b>         USE '<SAP SID>' ;
             GO
             DBCC SHRINKFILE 'file1.mdf'  EMPTYFILE;
             GO
    </b>
The above mentioned commands will empty the contents of 'file1.mdf' and restribute the data to other files in its FILEGROUP.
Now we have restricted growth by TURNING OFF growth on 'file2.mdf' , file3.mdf and file4.mdf.
The command will distribute data to the new files created by us file1a.mdf and file1b.mdf.
When the command has completed, you can safely remove the file1.mdf
    5. Perform steps 1-4 for all the remaining files file2.mdf and file3.mdf and file4.mdf.
After doing the above operation run a CHECK DB using DBCC CHECKDB , this will ensure that your database integrity is checked and everything is okay.
Now run Update statistics to ensure that your performance will not be hampered.
    Regards,
    Siddhesh
