Database Time Spent Waiting (%): Wait Class Other nearly 100% all the time

Don't understand why OEM is reporting that Database Time Spent Waiting (%): Wait Class Other is nearly 100% all the time. Database 10.1.0.4 just installed on Linux(RHEL4AS) and nobody use it for now except OEM and me for admin purpose.
Any clue for that problem ?

Nicolas

Seems like you are not the first to see this kind of behaviour.
I've found another similar thread on metalink. I can't say the answer is terribly helpful, but thought you might be interested anyway:

Database Time Spent Waiting (%) at 100 in event class Commit
Hi everyone, yesterday we create a new database instance with dbca, the creation process was ok, and the two instances are running ok, database stops and starts without any problem, and listeners are ok. In the enterprise manager of this new instance we found this message:
Database Time Spent Waiting (%) at 100 in event class Commit, this event happend every 1 or 2 minutes sometimes at 100, the next 40%, the next 98, ... and so on.
Do you know what's happend in this instance?
Thanks in advance to everyone

From Oracle Database Reference Manual:
Commit
This wait class only comprises one wait event - wait for redo log write confirmation after a commit (that is, 'log file sync')
So you can't write fast enough into your log files.
Did you check the frequency of log switches?

Hi José! Please don't get anxious because of this: Wait time must be SOMEWHERE, there's a saying "An OLTP DB is only as fast as its redo logs", but if you are not having any performance problem you don't need to do anything special.
You say you've just created the DB. Now make it DO something: put it to the test by simulating production conditions as closely as you can, and after some hours ask the users whether there is some problem. If there is, take a look at the wait statistics... you'll probably see many other top events before this one!

  • (CS4) Photoshop 32Bit + Bridge + Win7 = CPU 100% all the time

This is something that occurred to me many times now:
I need to use the 32Bit-Version of Photoshop because of all the Plugins I use and some of them run ONLY on one of them at a time, like PixelBender ( W H Y ? ? ? )
So: Whenever I have Photoshop 32bits running (because it would default to 64bits where my plugins are not available) and open Bridge afterwards to open a file in PS, Photoshop stays at 100% CPU (on one of the cores) all the time without any reason. I also checked if there were selections active (yes, selections sometimes pretty much need a LOT of CPU power, whyever!)
Otherwise, when I first start Bridge and THEN Photoshop 32Bits, the CPU usage is okay. Something seems using up much CPU power in some kind of endless loop / dead lock or something?!
It's quite annoying, because I don't use Bridge that often. Sometimes I want to start Bridge "on demand". And if I have opened Photoshop already I would have to close down everything just to be able to start Bridge again without losing a full CPU core.
So if anyone has the same issues like me: Just reverse the opening order: First open Bridge, THEN open Photoshop and everything should be fine.

I don't have an answer to your question about the infinite loop, but I can answer this:
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}

    ( W H Y ? ? ? )
A plugin is a special kind of callable function library (Dynamic Link Library, or DLL in Windows speak).  A 32 bit DLL cannot be used by a 64 bit version of Photoshop.  In order to use the completely different instruction set the processor provides for 64 bit operation, the plugin code must be compiled specifically for 64 bit operation.
All plugins developed before the time of Photoshop CS4 were originally developed as 32 bit applications, because Photoshop was only 32 bit.  Even today, 32 bit users outnumber 64 bit users by a large margin.
Microsoft makes it almost trivially easy to compile 32 bit source code as a 64 bit application, BUT...  If the programmer hasn't been careful in his use of data types - specifically those that will be a different size (e.g., a pointer will be increased from 32 bits to 64 bits), then doing so - even if the software compiles successfully - might yield a non-functional plugin.
Sadly, many programmers are not careful with their use of data types.  This is 30+ years of software engineering talking.
With good design and good coding practices, the code will be good and the programmer will be able to compile a 64 bit plugin quickly.  Even bad code can be cleaned up in time, so that it can be made to work in 64 bit form.
But there's even more that must be done...
Most serious software uses an installer.
Installing software on a 64 bit system requires big changes to the installation package, or maybe even a whole new installer.  There is, for example, the added complexity that you, the user, might want the proper variant of the plugin installed into each of your 32 bit and 64 bit Photoshop installations.  And possibly multiples (e.g., CS4, CS5).  Creating a good installer package is somewhat akin to designing a rocket booster.  Except that the latter is generally agreed to be easier.
And all this is just on the Windows side!  It must be repeated for the Mac, assuming the plugin is marketed into that segment as well.
So...  If your favorite plugin doesn't run under Photoshop x64, and the author doesn't have an upgrade available that does, maybe they are struggling to make it work, maybe they decided the x64 user market isn't big enough for their attention right now, or maybe they're just working on something else.
Probably more than you wanted to know, eh?

  • Time capsule makes me redo a full update all the time

i have the last macbook they made..like the late 2011 model i think they call it and when i upgraded to Yosemite, it will say a lot that the back up failed and i have to erase the time capsule disk and do a full back up from start. do you think there is something wrong with the hdd in the tc?  is there a way to do a hardware test on it.  i can't find anything online about this.  thanks for looking

If you have seen that message more than 2-3 times, it is highly likely that the hard drive is physically damaged.
Unfortunately, there is no easy way to test it, and if it is damaged....which is highly likely....no way to repair it.
You would have to pull the drive from the Time Capsule, place it in a special USB to SATA converter, and run Disk Utility to take a look at the drive. A lot of work....and probably not worth the time and effort.
Best bet is to replace the Time Capsule or buy another hard drive and connect it directly to your Mac.

  • Very slow Pages, CPU at 100% all the time

    Hey there,
I have some trouble with my Pages 2.0.1 on my PowerMac G3 with Sonnet G4-800. Every time the text window is in foreground and you want to write something, the CPU is at 100% ant the mouse is moving in discrete steps. Then, when I'm typing in, Pages is 3-4 words behind me. It is getting worse if I want to scroll in a document.
All other Apps on this machine are as fast as they should be, incl. Keynote.
I have no trouble at all with Pages on my PowerBook 1,5GHz.
    Has anybody some work around?
    TNX

Try the following things, which all have been known to cause slowdowns.
    1. Do you have any PostScript Fonts installed? Some people have reported problems with some PostScript Fonts.
    2. Do you have any missing fonts? When you open the document, does Pages complain that it cannot find one or several fonts?
    3. Do you have corrupt fonts? Open FontBook, select all fonts and then File > Validate Fonts.
    4. Corrupt pictures, songs and movies in your home folder's Movies, Music and Pictures folders can slow down the product through the Media Browser. AVI films in the Movie folder can slow things down, as QT usually cannot play them.
    5. Go to View > Hide > Layout. For some reason the layout slows things down.
    6. Don't view Thumbnails.
    7. Use the Text Fit option "follow contour" instead of "follow a square" in the bottom section of the wrap inspector. (Or was it the other way round? Anyone?)
    8. If an object is set to wrap, and a wrapped side squeezes out any possibility of text wrapping along that side - such as extending a text box to the margin, the extreme slowdown will occur. So don't.
    9. Use as few objects as possible Fixed on Page. Instead use Moves with Text.
    10. Reduce the resolution of your screen.

  • GT60 0NC, no GPU and fan at 100% all the time

    Hello.
Recently after many tries to solve nvlddmkm.sys problems I've got final crash. After which my OS could not see my GPU and fan was spinning at full speed. It was after underclocking shader clock from 1240MHz to 1200MHz and opening a game. The screen froze and at the bottom of the it, there was black belt through the screen with RGB colours dots in random locations. Now after full reinstall of the OS from win7 64bit to win8.1 64bit, this all still persist.
Any ideas would be good, as I could not see nor find any solution to this.
    My current config is:
    -MSI laptop GT60 0NC
    -NVIDIA GPU GeForce GTX 670M
    -Intel Core i7-3630QM
    -Windows 8.1 Pro N 64bit

So to settle the fan down I would have to disable dGPU. Not just unplug it but disable it. And to do this I would probably need unlocked BIOS. Correct me if I am wrong, if not I would appreciate any leads how to do this.
And if my dGPU is broken I can at least try the oven. And question about further actions, can i access mini PCI-e in MSI GT60 0NC in any way? To try connecting external GPU via EXP GDC Beast Laptop External Independent Video Card Dock. I do have GTX 460 from my old PC so I am just wondering.

The little connecting circle comes on and turns no matter what -- whether it's from a bookmark, an email, a typed in address. It turns and turns, then either times out or says problem loading page ALMOST all the time (I can't figure our why or why not). I just downloaded the latest versions of both Firefox & Thunderbird. I check my AVG and Firefox has a clear pass.

  • I want to connect an Airport Express via WiFi to my internet connection and then connect its LAN port to the WAN port of a Time Capsule. Will then any device connected to the time capsule wirelessly be also connected to the internet?

Background is I can't hook up my time capsule directly to my internet connection via network cable. I tried to extend the network via Wifi, but that did not work. At the moment I have two wireless networks, one with internet connection and another one with my time capsule. So to use time machine I have to change my network all the time.
Can I buy an Airport Express, use is as a client to my internet connection wifi and provide that connection via network cable to my time capsule and all it's wifi clients?

The AirPort Express will connect to your existing wireless network if the network is using WPA2 Personal or WPA/WPA2 Personal wireless security settings.
So, it can join the network as a client and then provide an Ethernet signal to your Time Capsule.
Be sure to configure the Time Capsule to operate in Bridge Mode so that it will be operating on the same network.

  • Photoshop quits all the time

Photoshop quits all the time! and downloading images off firefox - quits all the time! Anything using images - Quits all the time! Snow Leopard - I'd like to quit and go backwards!

    David AC Holmes wrote:

Here is how I would proceed to go back to Leo. I would start by bootably cloning your Sno install on an external drive. The clone will be your backup, your migration medium, and your fail-safe device. You also could continue to experiment with this install and try to fix its problems.
After doing so, install Leo on your internal drive via erase and install. You will need your original Leo install DVD to do so. After installing, you can restore all your data from the clone at the end of your Leo install. Under the circumstances, I would not restore your users, settings, and apps from the clone. Note that your choice will be to restore all apps or none. Be very careful about trying to just copy apps. You cannot copy many apps successfully from one install to another. Reinstalling almost all apps is my recommendation.
You can use the same user name, password, and other such install-related data as currently is used on you Sno install if you want. If you connect to the internet via Ethernet, then leave your Ethernet cable attached during your install. But, disconnect all unnecessary peripherals during the install being prepared to plug in your cloned external at the end of the install--when your will asked if you want to restore from various sources. As mentioned, you would restore from your clone.
Here are the basic erase and intall procedures.
    1. Erase and install using your install Leo DVD. To do so, start up from your install DVD; choose your language; use the menus at the top of the next screen to start Disk Utility; use Disk Utility to erase our drive Mac extended (journaled); quit Disk Utility; and continue your installation.
    2. At the end of your install restore your data files from the clone.
    3. Reinstall your apps by hand, including the iLife and iWork apps from your applications DVD.
    4. Repair permissions when you have completed all installations.

I started the computer by running Windows 8 OEM. Then my nightmare began.
1/ Waited almost 2 hours to DL Windows Update (60 upgrades found)

3/ After all updates where done HDD usage at 0% down to 100% so I tought the problem was solved.
4/ Now when starting my computer the HDD usage seems ok BUT my HDD is still scratching all the time as if he was working... I'm sitting on the desktop doing nothing but the HDD is always working.

  • My mac redirects me to other sites all the time.its some what slow.how can i fix?

my mac redirects me to other sites all the time.its some what slow.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with "Model Identifier." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.
