Datafile autoextend off possible in Physical standby?

Hi,
I am making datafiles auto extend off in primary database. is there anything i should do in standy database as well?
i have 10.2.0.4 version in IBM AIX machines with physical standby database configured...
I have standby_file_management is AUTO...
Any suggestions?

Means standy database will automatically propgate change of auto extend off? as DBA we dont do anything?Well, i have not tested it recently, but in back of my memories which i am trying to recall i have done it.For datafile/tablespace related standby_file_management parameter has to be set to auto, which is already set so you must must not face any problem.You can monitor the alert log file of the standby database.

  • Drop a datafile from physical standby's control file

    I am trying to create a physical standby database for my production...
    1) I have taken cold backup of my primary database on 18-Nov-2013...
    2) I added a datafile on 19-nov-2013 ( 'O:\ORADATA\SFMS\SFMS_DATA4.DBF' )
    3) Standby control file was generated on 20-ov-2013 (today) after shutting down and then mounting the primary database...
    When i try to recover the newly setup standby using archive files, i am getting the following error (datafile added on 19th Nov is missing)
    SQL> recover standby database;
    ORA-00283: recovery session canceled due to errors
    ORA-01110: data file 39: 'O:\ORADATA\SFMS\SFMS_DATA4.DBF'
    ORA-01157: cannot identify/lock data file 39 - see DBWR trace file
    ORA-01110: data file 39: 'O:\ORADATA\SFMS\SFMS_DATA4.DBF'
    How to overcome this situation...
    Can i delete the entry for the newly added datafile from the backup control file ?
    When i tried to delete datafile using "alter tablespace SFMS_BR_DATA drop datafile 'O:\ORADATA\SFMS\SFMS_DATA4.DBF';", it is showing that database should be  open..

    What is your version?
    If you added new datafile or created new tablespace, take backup again for restore new created standby database.
    If your standby  database running well, DG configuration success, then this datafile will create on standby side, too.
    Set STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT=AUTO best practice.
    When i try to recover the newly setup standby using archive files, i am getting the following error (datafile added on 19th Nov is missing)

    Not need any delete datafile from standby side, you must recreate standby database, or you can  take RMAN backup and restore to standby  side again.

    1.create a primary database
    2.duplicate a physical standby database;
    3.turn on flashback on both databases.
    4.record SCN xxx on physical standby database.
    5.convert physical standby to logical standby (using keep identity statement)
    6.flashback to logical standby to xxx
    7.convert logical standby to physical standby
    8.using real time apply
    I got errors:

    Errors appears every 10 seconds. Seems MPR0 is waiting for new incarnation for a long time. So am I.

  • Resizing datafile in a Physical Standby

    I have created a physical standby db for testing. One of the tests was to resize a dbf on the primary, knowing that the file could not extend on the standby due to space limitations. This has caused arch files not to be applied to the standby db. How is a situation like this resolved? Do I need to recreate the standby controlfile and replace it with the existing one? Or is this resolved a different way? Thanks.

    Just a follow up :
    the problem was with a DDL database trigger, that is not sensitive to the read only mode of the standby database
    disabling the DDL trigger solved my problem

  • Bringing a Physical Standby database online without (a) tablespace(s)

    Dear all,
    Is it possible to create a kind of "dblink" in a physical standby database residing in a remote host (another host than the primary production database)? We want to make this standby DB to be online without one tablespace.
    Our database consists of 2 parts: a core part (around 55 Gb) - stored in 2 tablespaces, residing in one mounted disk - and an "attachment" part (around 550 Gb) - stored in one tablespace, residing in 2 mounted disks. The attachment part is of less importance. We would like to make a standby DB for the core part and exclude the attachment part (because of its extensive size) to be online.
    Currently we can not put this physical standby DB online, since it requires the attachment datafiles to be available.
    Would it be a problem if we NFS mount these 2 disks on the host where the standby database resides?
    The best solution would be if we can tell the standby DB that there is no need to update the attachment tablespace.

    Since we only will use the standby DB in read only mode, maybe the use of a Logical one will be usefull afterall.
    Can you please explain how to configure this need (having a standby DB without this one large TB) in a Logical standby DB?

  • Oracle DataGuard - Standy Redo log on physical Standby db

    Hello Guys,
    A quick question on my 10.2.0.2 db with Windows 2003 x64 OSs.
    I have 2 machines - One for primary & the other for physical standby
    I have successfully setup DG with Real Time Apply and also tested switchover & failover scenarios and they work well and as expected...
    But I have a query which popped up when I was trying to set this up at home.
    I create the physical standby db by shutting the primary db and copying all the datafiles, tempfiles,online redo logs and then creating a standby control file which will be used for the physical standby db to start off with.
    After mounting the standby db, I tried to create standby redo logs files starting with Group 4 but I got error that standby group 4 already exists.
    Upon querying v$logfile view, I noticed that the standby redo logs that I created on primary are also showing up on the standby db which I understand is from the standby control file.
    So here is my quesiton: What is correct method of creating these standby redo logs on the standby database?
    I know that I could drop those 4 standby redo logs from the standby db and recreate them but all the DG docs online and the documents that I have referred say that I should create the standby redo logs on the standby as I did on the primary but how can this duplication be avoided i.e. from the standby control file?
    I know that I could use another method to create a hot backup such as RMAN etc...but I wanted to follow this way of shutting down the primary and copy the relevant database files.
    Any help appreciated...and thanks in advance guys!

    so with the setup that I used, i.e. create a standby control file which contains info about the standby redo logs at the primary site, should I also copy over the standby redo logs from the primary to standby as I only copied the datafiles, tempfile(s) & online redo logs? But then the filenames of the standby redo logs will be the exact same as that of the primary. Will that cause any issue during a switchover/failover?
    I don't remember exactly how I did it when I got the whole thing working but I have a vague remembrance that I drop the std. redo log files entries from the std database and then recreate new ones with different filenames (as compared to primary).

  • Recovering Physical Standby Database

    I created a simple script to recover/synchronies physical standby database. This script runs on schedule basis and finds if any recovery is required and if so, it applies the required archived files, or otherwise it will give an error showing the suggested file is not found. I want to suppress that error message and I wonder if there is a way to do that, so Oracle will exit the session without displaying the error message.

    anyways yes it is possible.
    u create the replica of your database
    like install the other server with same version and same datafile location and alll...
    there is no automatic transmission from oracle but u can automate from script like using rpc and in windows its more easy to copy archive anyways
    shutdown ur primary database copy all relevant files
    and paste it to ur secondary database
    now your database is ready in other machine as well.
    now what routine you have to follow for doing manual standby is
    you have copy all archives daily after copy of physical db files and also your control file from the primary database.

  • Autoextend off / on?

    I have been having pbs with rman backups and this is due to the fact that during rman backup, a datafile is being extend and it gives the error below.
    RMAN-10035: exception raised in RPC: ORA-19575: expected 820995 blocks in file /u05/oradata/MTNPRD/applsysx01.dbf, found 820990
    RMAN-10031: ORA-19583 occurred during call to DBMS_BACKUP_RESTORE.BACKUPPIECECREATE
    Now, I will like to change the datafile from autoextend on to off but before doing that, I will like to have some advice as I wanna know the up and downside of it!

    You can turn off autoextend, but if the tablespace needs to autoextend an error will be raised. Another option is to adjust your backup time to a time where the tablespace is less likely to autoextend if possible.

  • Error while trying to open physical standby database - (DATA GUARD)

    I have problems in opening the database of the physical standby in read- write mode/ read only mode. I have a primary server which is running on 2 node RAC and the standby on a seperate single server being used as DR. I recently got this server and my aim was to isolate the standby server from primary server and perform few test. As it has never been tested even once.
    Primary Database spec: (2 Node Rac on ASM)

  • Can I rename a physical Standby database without having to recreate?

    Hi all,
    One of my DBA's created a new standby database yesterday. He was supposed to create the standby database with a unique name from the primary system, but he didn't. So right now, DataGuard is running and replicating, and the standby has the exact same database name as primary.
    I'd like to get this configured the way we had planned, to rename the standby database to something unique. I see Metalink Doc ID 15390.1, showing how to rename a database, but I'm not sure if this is possible in the standby environment? Has anyone ever done this? Anything different that needs to be accounted for, in the physical standby DB?
    I'm on 10.2.0.3, on Windows 2003.
    Any help/advice is appreciated!!

    Dear TheBlakester,
    You have to write it on the spfile and bounce the database. You should also have to change the log_archive_config parameter with the new standby db_unique_name.
    From the online Oracle documentation;
    For example, if the DB_UNIQUE_NAME parameter has not been defined on either database, the following SQL statements might be used to assign a unique name to each database.
    Execute this SQL statement on the primary database:
    SQL> ALTER SYSTEM SET DB_UNIQUE_NAME='CHICAGO' SCOPE=SPFILE;
    Execute this SQL statement on the standby database:
    SQL> ALTER SYSTEM SET DB_UNIQUE_NAME='BOSTON' SCOPE=SPFILE;
    Step 4   Verify that the LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG database initialization parameter has been defined on the primary and standby database and that its value includes a DG_CONFIG list that includes the DB_UNIQUE_NAME of the primary and standby database.
    For example, if the LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG parameter has not been defined on either database, the following SQL statement could be executed on each database to configure the LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG parameter:
    SQL> ALTER SYSTEM SET
      2> LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG='DG_CONFIG=(CHICAGO,BOSTON)';After than that it is better for you to check following items just in case;
    v$archived_log
    v$dataguard_status

  • Problems while creating a physical Standby

    Hi,
    I am trying to setup a physical standby database with oracle 10g.
    I configured a specific log archive destination:
    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_3 = 'SERVICE=ORAMPSEC REOPEN=60 MAX_FAILURE=3 LGWR SYNC
    VALID_FOR=(ONLINE_LOGFILES,PRIMARY_ROLE) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=ORAMPSEC'
    The service is reachable via network.
    To establish the standby database I copied all datafiles from the primary database using scp. I also created a standby controlfile and a modified pfile. In addition I added a standby redo logfile which has the same size as the online redo log files on the primary database.
    After starting the standby database in open read only mode I receive the following error message:
    Database mounted.
    ORA-16004: backup database requires recovery
    ORA-01194: file 1 needs more recovery to be consistent
    ORA-01110: data file 1: '/oradata/ORAMPPRD/data/system01.dbf'
    I tried to recover using "recover standby database" I receive the following message:
    ORA-00279: change 884348 generated at 07/18/2006 17:08:07 needed for thread 1
    ORA-00289: suggestion : /oradata/ORAMPPRD/archive/1_30_595767954.dbf
    ORA-00280: change 884348 for thread 1 is in sequence #30
    Specify log: {<RET>=suggested | filename | AUTO | CANCEL}
    Although I transmitted all archived log files from the primary database the archived log file mentioned above is not available. After hitting RETURN I get this message:
    ORA-00308: cannot open archived log

    ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status
    SVR4 Error: 2: No such file or directory Additional information: 3

    Although there still seems to be something wrong, the archived log file transmission seems to work since there is no error reported on the log archive destination:

    And after I manually force a log switch I see that archived redo logs were applied on the standby database:

    Unfortunately because of the recovering problem I cannot open the database to see if the changes were applied. So my first question is, how can I get the standby database completely recovered ??
    In addition to this I was expecting that the changes to the standby database were made immediately since I choosed LGWR sync but I have to manually force the logfile switch. As I already mentioned a standby redo log file is available as well.

    Hi,
    since it does not seem to work with just copying the datafiles I switched to RMAN. I created a full database backup from Enterprise Manager. Similiar to http://dizwell.com/main/content/view/81/122/1/1/ I tried to duplicate the database to the standby instance (running on a different server). But unfortunately I receive error messages that the files, previously created, cannot be found:
