Dataguard setup for selected schemas

Version:10.2, 11.2
Platform : Solaris 5.10
In our Production DB, we have some schemas which we do not want to be replicated at the standby site. Logical backup is enough for these schemas.
Instead of replicating the entire database, Is there a way we could set up dataguard in which the logs are shipped only for selected schemas?

With a Physical Standby Database , you always 'replicate' your whole Primary. With Logical Standby, though, you could exclude certain schemas from the 'replication'.
Another option would be - as already mentioned by others - to do a regular replication with Streams or Golden Gate and only replicate the schemas resp. objects that you deem important.
However, I would recommend that you review the requirement to exclude 'unimportant' schemas from your Standby Database. It makes the whole setup more complicated than necessary.
Just go with Physical Standby and ignore those schemas - why bother?
Kind regards

  • Oracle Streams setup for multiple schemas in a same database

    We are on 11.1.0.7 and will be using Oracle 11g Streams that will replicate the data real-time for two schemas between the source and target set of schemas with in the same database. We will be doing DDL as well as DML replication.
    I created the following plan and want your inputs. After implementing this, I created a table in SCOTT but it's get replicated to RPT_SCOTT later I tried inserting a row in the table created under SCOTT but that too didn't get replicated to RPT_SCOTT.
    Here are the steps that I used to set up my STREAMS -
    Database Instance:     TESTDB
    Schemas:
         Source:          SCOTT
                   HR
         Target:          RPT_SCOTT
                   RPT_HR
    Configuring Streams:
    1.     Database is in Archive log mode
    2.     Set up the Streams administrator.
    create user STRMADMIN identified by STRMADMIN default tablespace USERS temporary tablespace temp;
    grant resource, dba, AQ_ADMINISTRATOR_ROLE to STRMADMIN;
    BEGIN
    DBMS_STREAMS_AUTH.GRANT_ADMIN_PRIVILEGE(
    grantee => 'STRMADMIN',
    grant_privileges => TRUE);
    END;
    3.     Set up Streams queues
    CONNECT STRMADMIN/****
    BEGIN
    DBMS_STREAMS_ADM.SET_UP_QUEUE(
    queue_name => 'STREAMS_QUEUE',
    queue_table => 'STREAMS_QUETAB',
    queue_user => 'STRMADMIN');
    END;
    4.     Add the Apply rule
    BEGIN
    DBMS_STREAMS_ADM.ADD_SCHEMA_RULES(
    schema_name      => 'RPT_SCOTT',
    streams_type     => 'APPLY',

    BEGIN
    DBMS_CAPTURE_ADM.START_CAPTURE('CAPTURE_AB_STREAM');
    END;
    Waiting for your inputs!

    If I understand from your code, you want to do this on the same DB :
    SCOTT --> RPT_SCOTT
    HR  --> RPT_HRSo there is a schema transformation, where is it coded ?
    General info : http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28321/strms_transform.htm
    More specific on schema rename : http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28321/strms_mtransform.htm#CHDGDHDE
    Next : where are the initialisation of both capture schema ?
    Missing :
    execute DBMS_CAPTURE_ADM.PREPARE_SCHEMA_INSTANTIATION( schema_name          => 'scott'');
    execute DBMS_CAPTURE_ADM.PREPARE_SCHEMA_INSTANTIATION( schema_name          => 'HR'');This tell Streams from where to capture the SCN.
    Also there is an (WRONG) instantiation of SCOTT for the apply, which tells the apply to consider as valuable candidate all LCR after source_scn,
    but where is the code or RPT_HR. Alas, you put for the APPLY target schema 'SCOTT' while it should have been 'RPT_SCOTT'.
    the fact that is correct or false depends where you put the schema transformation. If you put the transformation at apply time then use the SOURCE schema name (SCOTT, HR) for the LCR will contains their name. If you put the transformation at capture time, then put target schema name for the LCR will contain their name (RPT_HR,RPT_SCOTT).
    Let's say you put the schema transformation at capture time then
    Missing:
    DBMS_APPLY_ADM.SET_SCHEMA_INSTANTIATION_SCN (
    source_schema_name => 'RPT_HR',
    source_database_name => 'TESTDB',
    instantiation_scn => source_scn);If you attache the transformation on the apply process then the code is :
    DBMS_APPLY_ADM.SET_SCHEMA_INSTANTIATION_SCN (
    source_schema_name => 'HR',
    source_database_name => 'TESTDB',
    instantiation_scn => source_scn);And this is useless:
    -- useless code
    BEGIN
    DBMS_APPLY_ADM.ALTER_APPLY(
    apply_name => 'APPLY_CC_STREAM',
    apply_user => 'STRMADMIN');
    END;
    BEGIN
    DBMS_APPLY_ADM.ALTER_APPLY(
    apply_name => 'APPLY_AB_STREAM',
    apply_user => 'STRMADMIN');
    END;
    /Last : You are using the same queue for 2 separated capture/apply transformation.
    Do yourself a favor and give each couple capture/tranform/apply its own queue.

    I understand these are basics. Please bear with me.
    Thanks.Hi,
    On standby side need following steps.
    1. You must install Oracle Database Enterprise Edition (same version, same patchset) Software only.
    2. Add Listener, and add standby service name
    3. You must create folders for data files, flash recovery area and diags.
    Not need any additional tools.

  • Team Calendar warning - No Team setup for the user in the selection period.

    Good morning,
    I am attempting to replace the older iViews (leaverequestapprover and teamcalendar) with the newer iView (approveleaverequest) which seems to combine the two functions.
    When implementing the approveleaverequest iView, I get the following mesaage "No Team setup for the user in the selection period. Contact Administrator."
    However, looking at the older Team Calendar iView, teamcalendar, I can see the team.  Both iViews are assigned to the Team page for comparison.
    Not sure what's wrong but I'm confident I have all the configuration correct else the test team members wouldn't be appearing in the older iView.  I've read some other unanswered posts that asked the same question and rechecked all the objects people had suggested.
    What's even more puzzling, if I have one of my managers submit a leave request to their manager, the approveleaverequest iView will show the entire team with the leave request for the manager waiting for approval.
    I'm stumped and could use some guidance on how to get the team calendar to work.

  • External Drive selection/setup for TM

    Just upgraded to Leopard. Very excited to use Time Machine, and really want to set it up right from the begining. Thought of this setup:
    - for TM: external hard-drive with 2TB (400/800) WD or Seagate
    - for shared storage (pix/music/etc.) for iMac and other laptops (PCs): TimeCapsule 1TB (i would like to TM this external as well)
    if I get a 1TB for TM, and it starts to run out of space, can I daisy chain it (i.e. expand it)?
    thank you for your time and help in advance.

    1. You can configure the 1TB Time Capsule for TM backups of all your computers in the house.
    2. Attach a 1TB USB2 HDD (known as AirDisk) to thee USB2 Time Capsule port and all your computers will have access to it via file sharing and/or Account/PW setups using the Mac's AirPort Utility.
    So long as speed to/from the AirDisk does not present a problem then this setup should work for you.
    If you want more shared storage then attach a powered hub to the Time Capsules USB2 port and hang more USB2 HDDs to the hub.
    Review Drobo device as well. Spendy but easy to use and setup. See http://www.drobo.com/products.aspx

  • Structure App Designer Setup for Schemas

    Fellow Forum Members,
    My stylesheets are 31 separate FO-XSL files. There is one MAIN XSL file that contains links to all 30 XSL files.  It's the only file that needs to be pointed to using a directory path.
    In addition, I do not have a single  DTD.file. Instead the S1000D_4-0-1 folder contains 16 FOS files, 51 XSD files, and 16 DCF files.
    Can anyone out there please provide a brief overview on how I'm suppose to setup all my Schema and Stylesheet files to the dialog window shown below:
    In what field do I insert my path to my MAIN FO-XSL stylesheet file? The word "Stylesheet" doesn't show anywhere in the dialog window?
    Also how do I setup the multitude of files within my S1000D_4-0-1 folder?  Do all of thes files need to be converted into EDD files?  I don't see any field in the S.A.D. dialog window that will allow me to define a path to all of my S1000D_4-0-1 schema files.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Binar...
    I'm not clear on what you're expecting from FrameMaker in this situation. XSL-FO stylesheets are typically used to create page-formatted output (PDF and other). If you've got these stylesheets, you don't really need FrameMaker (although FrameMaker will do a far better job than FO can).
    While there may be some way to set up a structured application to kick off a "build" of your stylesheets, you'll likely need to work closely with a consultant who understands the way structure applications work. The Structure Application Designer is poorly documented and isn't probably what you should be using .. read the Structure Application Developer's Guide to learn how to set them up via the file system instead. This is a very edge case .. possibly the only one like it, so you're not likely to hear from someone else who has done this before.
    In general, you'd use a build scripting language like Ant to set up an XSL-FO based build process.
    Good luck!

  • Office 2013 RMS Client Configuration - Your Machine is not setup for IRM

    Hi All,
    I have successfully setup a test AD RMS farm but stuck at trying to configure Office 2013 to work with this. The farm configuration is as below
    DC: Windows 2003
    AD RMS Server: Windows 2008/ SQL Server 2008 R2
    Client: Windows 7 64 bit with Office 2013 32 bit, Domain Joined
    Client is domain joined and SCP has been successfully registered ( I can see the SCP in AD RMS properties).
    When I open word and select Protect Document -> Restrict Access, the only option is to Connect to RMS Server and get template, which eventually gives an error
    Your Machine isn't setup for Information Rights Management (IRM). To set up IRM, sign in to office, open an existing IRM protected message or document, or contact your help desk.
    Surprisingly, when I open a document protected by IRM (from a different machine), IRM is automatically configured for the user and starts working from that point. However any new domain user login into this client faces the same issue.
    Can anyone help identify the required registry keys that need to be present for getting this working on the client.
    Thanks for your help

  • AP Check printing setups for printing checks on your own

    HI
    I am wondering if there a good document which deals with AP check printing with MICR and signature on your own check stock
    thanks

    Recently we started to deal with AP check printing in our organizatin. It was a daunting task with the information and resources scattered all over and missing critical pieces of information to make sense out of the whole process flow. We attempted to go through the AP check printing internally and succeded.
    I decided to post the information for the benefit of people about the our experience
    Check Printing Basics and Beyond for Printing Checks on Your Own
    by
    Sarma Chilukuri
    This article deals with what is needed to get your own checks printed. It is a first attempt to uncover all the hidden rules that one should be aware to get your own checks printed. The first section deals with the basic AP check printing setup, while the 2nd half explores some of the flow of events that make it possible to print the check.
    Part I – Basic Setup
    AP Setup for check printing
    There are multiple steps in the AP check printing. First set of steps deal with the AP side setups. The second step is to get the System side setups. The system side setup deals with printer setup and program options setups. The last step would be to make the print format files configured with the vendor provided escape sequences in the laser print format file.
    Step 1: login as Payable Manager
    Step 2: Bank Setup: Navigate to Setup: Payments > Banks
    1.     Make sure the Bank # etc are present
    2.     Tab to “Bank Accounts”, and make sure your account # has been setup
    3.     On the Bank Accounts screen, tab to the “Payables Documents” and verify that Payment format (E.g., COK Laser Format) has been entered. This “Payment format links to next section where we associate it to the right payment program.
    Fig 1. AP Payment Bank Setup Screen
    Step 3: Program Setup (Setup: Payments > Programs)
    As we know there are only 5 formats 3 of which are “Ever Green Laser” (APXPBFE G|L|F) which are explained in the AP Users Guide. For your own form printing, you have to associate the format to APXPFEL (laser format) program. Also, the APXPBFEL or APXPBFEF call the APXPBFEG, which is the base program that pulls the data from oracle base tables. APXPBFEL is the one which allows us to print the checks with MICR and signature on a plain paper not on a pre printed stationery.
    Fig. 2 AP Payment Format Setup Screen
    Printer Styles, Drivers setup
    The above process summarizes the AP Setup. As a DBA, the printer setup needs to be validated. The base install provides the right setup to some extent. But the differences in printers and print queues may add some complexity to the final configuration. The following section discusses the set up the base install provides and changes as needed.
    Step 1. Login as system Administrator
    Step 2: Style (Install : Printer > Style)
    Look for the “PORTRAITHPLJ4LASCHECK”. This one is associated with the SRW Driver Called, “APLASP” (AP Laser printer format).
    Step 3: Driver (Install : Printer > Driver).
         1. The “PORTRAITHPLJ4LASCHECK” is associated with a “User Driver” of PORTRAIT for HPLJ4 and and a SRW driver of “APLASP”
         2. Also notice that there is an Initialization string at the bottom of it. This initialization string gets called as pre-report trigger for the APXPBFEG program (APXPBFEG.rdf) file. It sets the kind of format it should be. Please see the Appendix A for details on these printer pcl code translations. The Initialization string was as follows:
    Initialization: /eE/e&l0o2a7C/e(s0P/e(8U
    Step 4: Printer type (Install : Printer > Register)
    Each printer type is associated with a set of styles. Make sure the printer that was selected has the above style and its associated driver listed against that.
    Fig. 3 System Administrator Printer Seups
    Step 5: Program Setup (Concurrent > Program > Define)
    This step holds the key for check printing. It is necessary to define whether you need the check on top followed by the Stub or the other way around. The way it is controlled is based on the APXPBFEG.rdf, the report definition file and the APLASP.prt (Printer Style associate with the Portrait laser check format SRW driver). The APLASP.prt file ($FND_TOP/reports) has two identical setups called the 100 series and the 200 series. Those identical sets of setups define where the MICR and signature print on the check. The following table lists the some of the codes in the 100 series. Please refer to Doc ID #146452.1 for complete details.
    Fig. 4 System Administrator Concurrent Program Definitions
    CODE #     Code Definition
    100     Electronic check activation string
    101     1st Check #
    102     2nd Check #
    104     Deactivate check number mode string
    111     Activate MICR line
    112     MICR Deactivation / reset the printer head position
    121     1st Signature
    122     2nd Signature
    141     Address font activation string
    199     Return to default state string
    Table 1. APLASP.prt -- MICR Activation Codes
    The above code block repeats itself the same way in the 200 series. The decision to activate one way or the other controls the Check printing.
    Step 2: Setting up the Option block
    In the concurrent program definition for the APXPBFEL, there is an Options block in the middle. You need to list the codes that you want to activate. Please refer to Doc ID # 186640.1 for some explanation on these.
    E.g.,
    p_printer_code_mask="201,211,221,241" p_sig2_amount="" p_sig3_amount="" p_sig1_vendnum="" p_sig2_vendnum="" p_sig3_vendnum="" p_country_to_ignore="US" p_continuous_stationery="N"
    Step 3: Output format is Text
    Text format is sufficient, as the printer will pick up these escape sequences anyway.
    Fig. 5 System Administrator Concurrent Program APXPBFEL Options Definition
    UIPRINT.TXT, UIFONTS.ALI
    One needs to be aware of a few more pieces in this puzzle. The UIPRINT.TXT identifies to the Oracle Applications the print queues that were setup. This file is needed to set your PCL / Post Script printer definitions. I did not have to really tinker with these files other than identifying the PCL and Post Script Q’s that were setup on the UNIX box.
    Part II: Integrating all the pieces
    The above setups are all documented in various articles. We need to understand a few more steps to see how all these pieces come together.
    What you need to know about APXPBFEG.rdf
    APXPBFEG (.rdf) is the report file which when called pulls the data from Oracle. If you open the APXPBFEG.rdf in the Oracle reports, there is initialization to the report called, SRW.Init. This will bring in the initialization string associated with the PORTRAITHPLJ4LASCHECK driver definition file. Also, please be very careful with this report format file. When you open it, there is small tiny empty block. in the first block which calls the printer initialization code 100/200 under the Format Mask (from APLASP.prt). If this portion gets changed or messed up, one can end up with some unexpected results. Each of those blocks like MICR, CHECK etc… have associated format triggers and printer codes.
    Please make sure that the printer mask is properly handled. I noticed that the 200 series MICR (211) and Signature (221) printer masks were tied to 111 and 121 respectively. These should have been 211 and 221. The other place you need to be careful was the printer code before and after is proper.
    For E.g.,
    For the MICR, the ”printer code before and after columns “ should be 111 and 112 (or 211 / 212) respectively while Format Trigger should reference to 111 (211).
    Fig. 6 APXPBFEG rdf file printer mask and Format Triggers
    The escape sequences in the APLASP.prt file for these codes will play the crucial role in getting our format around the report output that gets generated from the APXPBFEG program. Please refer to the explanation of these escape sequence codes in the APPENDIX A.
    At this point when you run the program, you will see that the formatted output report file will have all the initialization strings and the output associated with that. You can compare the fields and verify the results. Let us closely examine the parts of the 111 and 121 where the micr and signature prints. The key to this to code the escape sequences the right way to get the associate MICR and signature print out correctly.
    Fig. 7 APXPBFEG rdf file MICR printer mask and Format Triggers
    Code 111 and Code 112 from the APLASP.prt file.
    I broke the line into pieces to illustrate the exact escape sequence code.
    Code "211"
    Part 1: esc "&f0S" esc "&f0y0X" esc "&l0E" esc "&a0L"
    Part 2: esc "(8M" esc "(s0p8.00h8.0v0s0b80T" --- This will be provided by the ROM
    Cartridge provider
    Part 3: esc "&k15H" esc "*p3215Y" esc "&a13.8C"
    code "212"
    Part 1 : esc "&f1x3x8X"
    Part 2 : esc "&f1S"
    Let us go over these 2 sets of codes carefully.
    Escape Code     Meaning     Comment
    esc "&f0S"      Push Cursor Position
    esc "&f0y0X"     Define Macro ID 0 and Start Macro Definition
    esc "&l0E"      Define Top Margin at 0 Lines
    esc "&a0L"      Define Left Margin at Column 0

    The signature piece (221) has also similar meaning.
    Escape Code     Meaning     Comment
    esc "&f0S"     Push Cursor Position
    esc "*t300R"     300 DPI Graphics resolution
    esc "*p1500X"     Horiz position = 1500 Dots

I took the ! from the above and let it stay with the 3rd part of it so that signature does not print twice.
    esc "&f1S"      Pop Cursor Position

    Summary
    One can print their own checks using the above steps. This can work as a cost effective solution for small organizations where the budgetary constraints are tighter. We are successful in getting the AP Checks printed using the above method.

  • Why opening from java the rpt search for a JNDI when it's setup for a DNS ?

    I downloaded CR for eclipse 2.
    All is 'quite' working froma a java app.
    i've only a problem with an 'jndi name search error'. I'll try to explain.
    In the RPT i use a DSN connection to a sql server into a differente machine. When I open directly the rpt, all is working.
    From java code, i'll open the report, but when i try to export  to pdf iit tell me about an error 'jndi name search error', with the name of the DSN connection i setup.
    Why? Why opening rpt all is working, but opening from code NOT is working ?
    What's the difference from two opening methods? Why an .rpt opened from java cannot just open the connection like when opened from cristal report !?
    *My question is: why opening from java the rpt search for a JNDI when it's setup for a DNS connection ?! *

    The .rpt has been originally created from an ancient version of Cristal report. probably the '8'.
    In an italian software called 'Business', the .rpt is populated for printing of invoices and similar docs.
    My society is trying to 'integrate' our software with the .rpt used from our customer.
    So we want simply open .rpt, add a new logo, set the selection for record and save as pdf.
    We so bought Cristal report 2008 (v.12 ), opened the .rpt, saved (so it 's now in a supported version).
    The sql server is located at 10.1.2.40, and is a Microsoft Sql Server.
    In my development pc I've installed Cr 12. I added a User DSN to point to Sql server at 10.1.2.40, at right DB with username and password. Opening from my development machine the .rpt and 'running' it, it display the data. Ok !
    I downloaded CR4 Eclipse 2.
    I open report using the unmanaged sdk. (to access it through file system, not via RAS), Ok.
    I set selection record. Ok.
    I execute .export with 'PDF' for format option and here I get an exception: the JNDI name 'CPR'  is not found. Where CPR is the DSN name setup into .rpt from Cristal Report 2008.
    So, no, i'm not trying to using the designer from Eclipse, but from the full application. But I must use the rpt at runtime to export some rendered records.
    What must I do to do this?
    CR4E only supports java based connections, so it is looking for the JDBC/JNDI name and won't look at the DSN's.
    How Can i setup at runtime a JDBC / JNDI connection ?
    I already have a 'connection' from my code to the sql server, using sqlserver jdbc driver v. 4 from microsoft. And executing query I see the results. So i have right driver, ip, db name, user name and password
    But is there a way to simply tell at runtime to my .rpt to use THIS connection? Or a similar connection...
    Thanks in advance for help provided to us. (we bought a CR license only for this work...)

  • Best setup for iMac with SSD & HDD? Best location of scratch & home folders

    Best setup for iMac with SSD and HDD? Best location of scratch & home folders?
    Computer:
    iMac 2.93 GHz Quad core i7, 8GB RAM, 1 TB HDD + 256 GB SSD
    There is not much info from Apple about the best way to set up an iMac with a Hard Drive and Solid state drive. I’ve looked at a few of the forum posts across the web and came up with a plan and lots of questions. (I do use photoshop frequently, but not on a professional level):
    1. I will keep OS and Applications on SSD
    2. About moving the home folder: I saw some posts about moving the whole home folder, but it makes more sense to me to only move selected fodlers withing the home folder tomake the best use of the SSD. So will keep the home folder on SSD, but move certain folders (document /music/iphoto/download) to 1 TB HDD via instructions I found on the macintoshperformanceguide website:
    cd
    sudo cp -r Documents /Volumes/Master
    sudo rm -rf Documents
    sudo ln -s /Volumes/Master/Documents Documents
    3. I would like to get 8 more RAM when I can afford it
    4. I will attach an external hard drive for most of my documents and backup storage
    5. Now here is where I’m not sure what’s best:
    a. Should I partition my internal 1 TB hard drive and use the first partition as a scratch disc for photoshop and other applications? How much should I partition? Is there any benefit to this if the rive is partitioned?
    b. Should I use an external drive as a scratch disc?
    c. Any advice on a good 1-2 TB external drive?
    d. Should I just leave things in factory settings?
    Don't assume I know the basics - I got all the above just by searching around. Any advice and commentary is appreciatedThanks.

    Thanks for the advice and the links. yes, I would like to speed up ps as much as possible.
    I wonder if putting the scratch disc on the same drive as the OS would cause them to interfere with each other? Even if they are on different partitions, they would not be able to be accessed at the same time, or could they? That's why I was wondering if I should place scratch disc on the internal HDD -- but then I don't know how much to partition for it (or to partition at all?)
    ALso, I read on a few places that too much read/write on the SSD wears it down over time? Is this more of a theoretical concerns - it does not make sense to me since it has no moving parts!
    thanks again for the advice ... I'm gonna go digest those links

  • No dimensions available for selection in Query Wizard

    Good afternoon. I have created some presentations in JDeveloper and am quite happy with the results thus far. However, I recently began working with Reports and have stumbled across an error for which I may be responsible.
    I had no problems whatsoever in JDeveloper. When trying to create a query in Reports, there are no dimensions available for selection, only measures. I researched this somewhat and ran across the statement in the OLAP API docs that states the creation of 'measure folders' in the OLAP DB is necessary in order for that information to become avaiable elsewhere.
    I believe this hypothesis is correct because (please ocrrect me if I am wrong) JDeveloper uses JDBC to connect with OLAP by default. However, I believe that Reports uses the OLAP API.
    The reason I am not 100% certain that this is the culprit, is the fact that I am still able to see the measures; just that when I select the measures, there are no dimensions associated with them (which thereby prohibits me from proceeding in setting up the query).
    Has anyone else seen this behavior, and is it caused by not having measure folders setup? Thanks.
    -Jeff Trudeau

    Np. I am running the 9.0.3.4 maintenance release of JDeveloper and the corresponding release of BIBeans. As for Reports, I am running the version that was included with the latest 9i Developer Suite (release 2). I am not aware that a more recent version of Reports has been released.
    I am running a 9i database with the latest patches. Again, JDeveloper with BIBeans is working fine, but the problem lies in setting up a query in Reports. Thanks for the help.
