Datasource alias

Hi,
I was going through some matter on creating a data dictionary project with a corresponding web module project at:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/6c/c8bbdc13a8435fa4e0d7ccd97bb1ea/frameset.htm
But Im stuck here with 2 doubts:
When I created New -> Persistence, it created a java file for me with
public class Ctx { ....
. Should I overwrite it with
#sql public context Ctx with (dataSource = "java:comp/env/TMP_PERSISTENCE_EXAMPLE");
Secondly, if I have to use the default Datasource alias, I have to create an xml file: "New -> META-INF/data-source-aliases.xml". I have created a dictionary project for the tables and a web module proj. for the classes and the jsp. How do I go about creating the data source alias. I d not get the option for doing so as mentioned above.

Hi,

    Hello,
    i will bind a UserDatasource to a Combobox.
    But i get an Error " DataSource Alias not Found"
    Here my Code
    ouserdatasource = oForm.DataSources.UserDataSources.Add("NAG_MODUL", BoDataType.dt_SHORT_TEXT, 20);
                oItem = oForm.Items.Add("cb_Modul1", BoFormItemTypes.it_COMBO_BOX);
                oItem.Left = 235;

    And here the UserTable

    Hi Dhomas,
    Try This.....
    'If You are using the userdatasource
    ouserdatasource = oForm.DataSources.UserDataSources.Add("NAG_MODUL", BoDataType.dt_SHORT_TEXT, 20);
                oItem = oForm.Items.Add("cb_Modul1", BoFormItemTypes.it_COMBO_BOX);
                oItem.Left = 235;
                oItem.Top = 330;
                oItem.Width = 130;
                oCombobox_5 = (SAPbouiCOM.ComboBox)oItem.Specific;
                oCombobox_5.DataBind.SetBound(true, "", "NAG_MODUL");
    If You want to insert the data from combobox to the userdefined table (UDT) then
    Try This....
    SAPbouiCOM.DBDataSource dbdatasource = default(SAPbouiCOM.DBDataSource);
    dbdatasource = oform.DataSources.DBDataSources.Add("@Tablename");
    oItem = oForm.Items.Add("cb_Modul1", BoFormItemTypes.it_COMBO_BOX);
                oItem.Left = 235;
                oItem.Top = 330;
                oItem.Width = 130;
                oCombobox_5 = (SAPbouiCOM.ComboBox)oItem.Specific;
                oCombobox_5.DataBind.SetBound(true, "@Tablename", "Code");

  • Error in creating a DataSource inVisual Administrator

    Hi Friends,
    My requirement is to connect to an external oracle database, for which I am trying to create a DATA SOURCE in Visual Administrator.
    the approach I followed is as given in many threads,
    In JDBC Connector service in Visual Admin:
    1. Created a driver using ojdbc.jar
    2. Created a datasource using the above driver,
    but after filling all the values, when I save it, I get following error(some part is displayed here):
    java.rmi.RemoteException: com.sap.engine.services.dbpool.exceptions.BaseRemoteException: Error during start of application "sap.com/DS_ConnectOracle". [id = StartupError]
         at com.sap.engine.services.dbpool.deploy.DataSourceManagerImpl.startApplication(DataSourceManagerImpl.java:608)
         at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method)
    Also this application name comes from where?
    why it is not able to start the application?
    Just to inform I am successfully able to connect to database using webdynpro application where I have coded the lines to connect to Oracle database.
    But DataSource thng is not working.
    Regards
    Deepak

    just to inform the issue is resolved, I got to know the cause.
    actually I was giving the DataSource Name & DataSource Alias Name as same,
    while they must be different.

  • NameNotFoundException: Object not found in lookup of 'JDBC-Alias Name'

    Hi Experts,
    I am getting the NameNotFoundException: Object not found in lookup exception, when accessing the DataSource  using the alias name EMPLOYEE_DS from JspDynpage.
    Here is the code for lookup
    InitialContext ctx = new InitialContext();
    // TODO  chenage the alias to the right one
    DataSource  ds = (DataSource) ctx.lookup("jdbc/EMPLOYEE_DS ");
    The same application is running using the above alias name in our development environment, but the same is not working in production system.
    I have created the same Alias Name for JDBC Datasource, but still is not working.

    Hi Anup,
    As I said, My application is working in both Development and Quality system with the lookup
    DataSource ds = (DataSource) context.lookup("jdbc/MYDB")
    but the problem is in only Production system, I believe there might be some configuration missed.
    As you said I have tried with
    DataSource ds = (DataSource) context.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/MYDB")
    with the abvoe lookup my application stopped working and getting the below exception and throws the below exception
    com.sap.engine.services.jndi.persistent.exceptions.NameNotFoundException: Path to object does not exist at java:comp, the whole lookup name is java:comp/env/jdbc/REPORTING_DASHBOARD.
    I believe my lookup is working without any issues, because it is working in dev and quality systems, problem might be in configuration. I have done the alias creation through nwa, following
    http://<server:port>/nwa>Configuration>Application Resources-->JDBC Datasource Alias
    Any more suggestions regarding this.
    Thanks,
    Chinna.

  • Datasource Connection

    Hello, I'm tryng to write an application that must be connected to a database.
    -In my EAR Project I declared a dataSource Alias (in <i>data-source-aliases.xml</i>).
    -In my EJB Project in <i>ejb-jar.xml</i> (and in <i>ejb-j2ee-engine.xml</i> defining the JNDI name) I passed the dataSource alias (in reaource-ref folder).
    But when I try to connect to the DB it doesn't work.
    In my Java class I'm using:
    <b><i>ctx = new InitialContext();
    ds = (DataSource)ctx.lookup("jdbc/<DataSourceAlias>");</i></b>
    Is this the right procedure or I'm missing something??
    Another question: this application is a WebService, if I need to test can I use the WS Navigator's test in my Enterprice Portal??
    Thank You in Advance

    Check this thread: Web Dynpro | EJB | JNDI lookup

    Hi Kevin,
    What DataSource does your testalias refer to?
    - If it is a custom DataSource, you must have created this custom DataSource also.
    - If it is the default DataSource, you shouldn't have this problem in general...
    In either case, you can try deploying your DataSource and/or DataSource alias together with your application:

    Hi,
    you have to define a datasource alias for your db (in "Application Resources" in SAP Netweaver Administrator) or use an existing one and add it as a "jta-data-source" child for your corresponding persistence unit within your persistence.xml

  • SQLJ use in Web Dynpro

    Dear All.
    How can i use my SQLJ and other helper classes (DB engine) in Web Dynpro? Where can i create the connection context? Is it possible, to use java relational persistence in Web Dynpro without EJB model?
    Best Regards, Andrey.

    Hi Andrey,
    you should wrap your SQLJ related classes behind some EJB module project and another application project. You can create the Connection Context class and other SQLJ classes just by saying File>New>Other>Persistence>SQLJ Source. So first create your connection context class there and llok up for the Datasource alias as defined in your application.xml file in your application project. Later on in the business methods of your session bean you can access these sqlj helper classes for processing ad access the business methods from web dynpro through EJB project reference or local web service model.
    For relational persistence you can use JDO if you dont want to use EJB CMP. Though for JDO, there are no wizards in NWDS for creating the .map or .jdo files. So you have to create these files by your own and have to take care of syntactical errors as in any xml.

  • How to find Oracle drivers are installed in WAS

    Hi
    I am doing Proto type application using webdynpro.I want to create tables in Oracle database,because WAS is installed on Oracle.Now i went to Visual Admin tool and checked the "JDBC Connector" properties.I tried to create the new 'DataSource".While creating DataSource ,it is asking me DriverName,Driver ClassName,Version.I have following questions:
    1.How to find the wheather Oracle drivers are installed or not?if not where to get these drivers?
    2.Once DataSource is created ,how to test wheater it is working fine or not?please help
    Thanks
    Prasad

    Hello Prasad,
    Don't create a new datasource, but create a datasource alias for the existing SAP<sid>DB datasource with your new name.
    <u>(remember to restart the j2ee cluster)</u>
    Then in your application instatiate the datasource and use your create/update/select statements.
    <b><i>Once this is set up test from your java code as follows:</i></b>
    InitialContext ic = new InitialContext();
    DataSource mySource = (DataSource)ic.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/YourDataSource");
    or.. DataSource mySource = (DataSource)ic.lookup("java:jdbc/YourDataSource"); <b>(can't remember which of the 2 worked)</b>
    if this throws a NamingException, then your alias doesn't work, or perhaps you forgot to restart the cluster.
    After this executes successfully, use the datasource freely.
    Connection con = mySource.getConnection();
    con.executeQuery
    con.executeUpdate
    con.executeStatement
    ect...
    And forget about oracle, sapdb, informix, db2, or whatever drivers. This makes your application portable and independent from the DB layer.
    Please feel free to reward points if this solves your problem.

    Homer Vargas

  • TableView item selection problems

    Detlev, if you are out there, please help!
    I have been trying to follow the doc and examples for selecting an item in a TableView. I have got the event to fire, but there is no such event as TableSelectionEvent, instead you must use TableRowSelectionEvent.
    Also, this does not have the promised getRowIndex() method. The javadoc say you can get the selected row from Event.getParams(), but this returns null!
    Furthermore, SAP have a working example of selecting TableView rows and keeping the selection, but the code samples cannot possibly be from the working example.

    Hi Martin,
    just in addition to Brian's answer, see How to use onRowSelection !!!! for further discussions - and with that, maybe you'll like the idea of using search functionality of SDN
    And if you ask that directly for my help --- please give some respect to my ending notes on How to create datasource alias in EP project? ... Your misfortune is that I have a quite good memory...

  • ConnectionFactory Exception

    Hello All,
    I am working on migrating a J2EE app from Websphere Application Developer 5.1.2 to run on SAP J2EE engine.  Once I deployed the ear and started the app, I get the app's login screen.  When I try to login, I get the following exception:
    com.sap.engine.services.jndi.persistent.exceptions.NamingException: Exception during lookup operation of object with name webContainer/applications/sap.com/PTA/pta-web/java:comp/env/jdbc/NonXADataSource, cannot resolve object reference. [Root exception is com.sap.engine.services.connector.exceptions.BaseResourceException: ConnectionFactory "jdbc/NonXADataSource" does not exist. Possible reasons: the connector in which ConnectionFactory "jdbc/NonXADataSource" is defined is not deployed or not started.
    Below are the steps that I've done on the migration to SAP:
    1.  From SAP Management Console, started the J2EE Engine.
    2.  From Visual Administrator Tool, I created the JDBC driver (added appropriate drivers needed for SQL Server 2000) and datasources (added two datasources needed by our app), using the JDBC Connector.
    3.  From Deployment Tool, I did the following:
            a.  Created a project.
            b.  Using the Assembler tab, created an  EAR file from the WAR file that I exported from our J2EE app in Websphere Application Developer 5.1.2.
            c.  Using the Deployer tab, added the datasource configuration and added the datasource alias.
            d.  Using the Deployer tab, I deployed the EAR file and started the application.
    Since I am new in using SAP, I most likely missed something in my configuration setup.  Any advice on this issue is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jose

    Hello Srinivasan,
    Thanks for the reply and good point.
    When I setup my datasources, I did run the test query in the DB initialization to make sure that the datasources were setup correctly.  I received an OK reply when the query ran successfully.
    Is there any other setup which I may have left out?
    Thanks,
    Jose

  • Re: Oracle ODAC 12c Release 3 32-bit supports EF 6.x?

    I am also facing same problem with latest ODP.NET. Our existing application with 11G and EF 4.3 DB first worked very well. We need to migrate our application from 11G to 12C. But its showstopper for us to proceed. Please help us.
    My environment details
    Latest Oracle ODAC 12c Release 3 - 32-bit released on 24-Dec-2014
    Visual Studio 2013 Update 3 - 32 Bit on Windows 8.1 64 bit OS
    Entity Framework 6.1.31219.0 (EntityFramework.6.1.2)
    I have tried with .Net framework 4.5, 4.5.1 and 4.5.2.
    The latest EntityFramework.dll (6.1.31219.0) added to project reference, EF 6.x option alone comes also getting greyed out.
    If I remove EntityFramework.dll from project reference, getting only option to use EF 5.0
    Tried various config file changes, different versions of EF (6+), also tried reverting to ODAC 12c Release 3 Beta. I could not make it working 12c ODP.Net with EF 6+ DB first.
    Please suggest us the ideal environment for 12c ODP.Net with EF 6+ DB first.
    Thanks

    Have you set the entityFramework correctly in the local app.config/web.config? You need to set it both in any libraries using the code and in the deployed application.
    And - how is the system.data/DbProviderFactories in the correct machine.config? You either have to have it set in the correct machine.config or the local app.config/web.config files.
    Here's my working local config file, using the 12c R3 release version dll's and the managed drivers:
      <configSections>
        <section name="entityFramework" type="System.Data.Entity.Internal.ConfigFile.EntityFrameworkSection, EntityFramework, Version=6.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" requirePermission="false" />
        <section name="oracle.manageddataaccess.client" type="OracleInternal.Common.ODPMSectionHandler, Oracle.ManagedDataAccess, Version=4.121.2.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342" />
      </configSections>
      <entityFramework>
        <defaultConnectionFactory type="System.Data.Entity.Infrastructure.SqlConnectionFactory, EntityFramework" />
        <providers>
          <provider invariantName="Oracle.ManagedDataAccess.Client" type="Oracle.ManagedDataAccess.EntityFramework.EFOracleProviderServices, Oracle.ManagedDataAccess.EntityFramework, Version=6.121.2.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342" />
          <provider invariantName="System.Data.SqlClient" type="System.Data.Entity.SqlServer.SqlProviderServices, EntityFramework.SqlServer" />
        </providers>
      </entityFramework>
      <system.data>
        <DbProviderFactories>
          <!-- Remove in case this is already defined in machine.config -->
          <remove invariant="Oracle.ManagedDataAccess.Client" />
          <add name="ODP.NET, Managed Driver" invariant="Oracle.ManagedDataAccess.Client" description="Oracle Data Provider for .NET, Managed Driver" type="Oracle.ManagedDataAccess.Client.OracleClientFactory, Oracle.ManagedDataAccess, Version=4.121.2.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342" />
        </DbProviderFactories>
      </system.data>
      <connectionStrings>
        <add name="MyOracleModel" connectionString="DATA SOURCE=MySource;PASSWORD=MyPassword;PERSIST SECURITY INFO=True;USER ID=MyUserName" providerName="Oracle.ManagedDataAccess.Client" />
      </connectionStrings>
    And for example
      <oracle.manageddataaccess.client>
        <version number="4.121.2.0">
          <dataSources>
            <dataSource alias="MySource" descriptor="(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=localhost)(PORT=1521))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER=DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME=MyService)))" />
          </dataSources>
        </version>
      </oracle.manageddataaccess.client>
    for explicit server settings or
      <oracle.manageddataaccess.client>
        <version number="4.121.2.0">
          <settings>
            <setting name="TNS_ADMIN" value="C:\app\path\to\tnsnamesdotora\here\network\ADMIN" />
          </settings>
        </version>
      </oracle.manageddataaccess.client>
    ..to point to a tnsnames.ora file.

  • Get BaseResourceException with JDBC ds.getConnection()

    Hi,
    I have created a stateless sessionbean with the intension to connect to the default SAP database by JDBC. Therefore I have created 3 project: a dictionairy project, a enterprise java bean project and a j2ee application project. Within the j2ee application project I have created a datasource alias:
    ?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE data-source-aliases SYSTEM "data-source-aliases.dtd">
    <data-source-aliases>
         <aliases>
              <data-source-name>${com.sap.datasource.default}</data-source-name>
              <alias>UNIQEMA_CONTACT_US</alias>
         </aliases>
    </data-source-aliases>
    And in the ejb module project I have created also a reference to the datasource:
                   <resource-ref>
                        <res-ref-name>UNIQEMA_CONTACT_US</res-ref-name>
                        <res-type>javax.sql.DataSource</res-type>
                        <res-auth>Application</res-auth>
                        <res-sharing-scope>Shareable</res-sharing-scope>
                   </resource-ref>
    I have also created the following create method in the ejb :
         public void ejbCreate() throws CreateException {
              try {
    //               Class.forName("com.sap.dbtech.jdbc.DriverSapDB");
                   Context ctx = new InitialContext();
                   DataSource ds = (DataSource) ctx.lookup("java:comp/env/UNIQEMA_CONTACT_US");
                   conn = ds.getConnection();
              } catch (Exception e) {
                   throw new CreateException("e.getMessage");
    But when the ejb excutes the ds.getConnection() I got the following error:
    com.sap.engine.services.connector.exceptions.BaseResourceException: Cannot get connection. Reason: the thread of component "ejbContexts/sap.com/com.atosorigin.uniqema.contactus.appl/uniqema_contact_us_country" in application "sap.com/com.atosorigin.uniqema.contactus.appl" is currently associated with a restricted resource set and it is not allowed to get connection within it.
    Please can someone say what I have done wrong a which feature I have forgotten to set.
    regards,
    Sander Valkenburg

    Hi Sander,
    another note on using DS connections:
    1. connection as you may know are scarce resources, meant to be shared among apps. Storing a connection in a instance variable of a bean is not a good idea for another reason to: the database times out connections too!
    2. proper usage would be something like this
    Connection conn = null;
    try {
      // acquire conn.
      conn = ds.getConnection();
      // do something with it
    } catch( ..) {
    } finally {
      // give conn back to pool
      try { if () conn.close(); } catch(Exception e) {}
    Regards
    Gregor
