Date time characteristic converted in a string in Universe OLAP

Hi there,
We are facing to the following issue. Maybe one of you has been already facing to.
We have created a BO universe on top of BI queries (based on MDX) and we make WEBI reports.
We note when we update/refresh the OLAP structure, all characteristics (Number and date) are converted/considered as a character and string and we loose in that way the time information.
This is very ennoying when sorting on time dimensions as WEBI can only sort on Alphabetic order.
Indeed, we would like to display the last 13 month of a key figure as from the last month.
As the time characteristic is automatically converted by the Olap refresh structure in a string, we can't display the last 13 months in logical/natural/calendar order.
Ex: NOV 2007 | DEC 2007 | JAN 2008 | FEB 2008 ....DEC 2008
Any idea :
- why the 'Refresh structure' command automatically convert into a string?
- how to force him not to convert to string and keep the date information?
- order date as the logical/natural/calendar one?
Beforehand, thanks a lot

Hi Ingo,
I'm using 0CMonth or 0CALMONTH which are SAP characteristics.
Do you know how to sort data by date and not by string?
When we recuperate infoobejcts from BI queriies, all objects are string and all LOV are sorted by string which don't help us.
imagine we have JAN 1996, JAN 1997,... FEB 1996 etc etc.
A nightmare

  • How do I preserve date/time when converting to DNG?

    When I convert a file to DNG format in Lightroom, it changes the capture time in the metadata to the current date and time, rather than copying the source data.  Is there a way in which I can tell it to leave my dates alone?

    You wrote: “I noticed my mistake. It seems that what the conversion process was changing was the ‘Metadata Date’ and ‘Date Time’ fields, but ‘Date Time ‘" and ‘Date Time Digitized’ were remaining the proper, original date. The cause of my confusion was that my Metadata panel view was hiding all but the ‘Date Time’ field, so it appeared as though it had overwritten my prior date information.”
    Date/times in photo metadata can be very confusing.  There are all these fields with confusing names imposed by legacy industry standards -- I challenge anyone except a metadata nerd like me to remember the meanings and differences of Date/Time, Date/Time Original, Date/Time Digitized, Capture Time, Metadata Date, Modify Date, ....  The worst are the two XMP fields Date Created and Create Date, which have two very different meanings!  And every app and operating system makes a half-hearted attempt to "simplify" it for the user by choosing different names.
    LR makes no serious attempt to make this easy for the user, and over the first several versions, it's handling of date/times was pretty sloppy. (It still has outstanding bugs that don't crop up that often in practice.)  You would think that at least LR would provide roll-over tool tips on the field names in the Metadata panel explaining each field.

  • Convert timestamp to string with milliseconds showing.

    I have two questions. The first is I need to know how to convert the timestamp that displays from "Get Date/Time in seconds" to a string format.  I found the vi that converts to string but it stops at seconds and cuts off the milliseconds. I wired true to the "Get seconds" terminal so I get the time in seconds, I just don't get the millisecond value. Also I need to know if the clock from "Get Date/Time in seconds", is synchronized (or shows the same time down to the millisecond) with the timestamp that shows in the CAN read vi. I need to have the clock/timestamp from the CAN read synchronized with the "Get Date/Time in seconds" clock/timestamp. I am trying to compare delays in the CAN so I need precision down to the millisecond.

    Use Format Date/Time String.  For the format code use %H%M%S%4u to get two digits for hours, two digits for minutes, two digits for seconds, then a decimal, and after the decimal you get 4 digits for fractions of a second.  Replace the 4 with a 3 to get milliseconds, or with a 1 to get tenths of a second.   You get the idea...  See attached vi.

  • Extract date/time stamp and modifier name from memo field

    I need to extract all date/time stamps and modifier name strings from the Work Log memo field - or conversely, filter out all of the comments after the date/time modifier strings.    I have the string extract but it only extracts the first one.  I need to loop until all are found - how can I do this?  The memo field will look something like this:
    3/5/2009 3:32:05 PM John Doe
    Comments - string can be any length
    3/4/2009 12:35:43 PM John Doe
    Comments - string can be any length
    3/4/2009 12:28:17 PM Jane Dough
    Comments - string can be any length and include date format 2009-06-04 14:20 CST.
    3/4/2009 12:27:47 PM Mary HadaliddleLam
    Comments - string can be any length
    3/4/2009 12:26:55 PM Lamseedivy
    Comments - string can be any length

    Comments - string can be any length.

    Here is a formula that will strip all 'comment' and blank lines and puts the datetime stamp and user names into an array.  You have to manipulate the elements of the array to further separate the datetime stamp and user name if required.
    // Declare two indices
    numbervar i := 1;
    numbervar j := 1;
    // Split each row of the memo field into an array
    // if chr(10) does not work then try with chrw(13) or chr(13)
    stringvar array x := split({Sheet1_.Comments},chr(10));
    // Declare a holding array
    stringvar array y;
    // Declare the size of the new array to be equal to the elements in array 1
    redim y[ubound(x)];
    // Copy only if the first word of each element of array 1 is neither "comments" nor a blank line
    for i := 1 to ubound(x) do
    if split(x<i>) = 'comments' or x<i> = '' then
    else
    (y[j] := x<i>;
    j := j + 1;
    // Compress the new array to eliminate the last blank element
    redim preserve y[j-1];
    // Joining the elements of the new array and the number of elements for display
    join(y,chrw(13)) & chrw(13) & ubound(y);
    With your example, this formula will return:
    3/5/2009 3:32:05 PM John Doe
    3/4/2009 12:35:43 PM John Doe
    3/4/2009 12:28:17 PM Jane Dough
    3/4/2009 12:27:47 PM Mary HadaliddleLam
    3/4/2009 12:26:55 PM Lamseedivy
    3/4/2009 12:15:22 PM Mareseedoes
    6.00
    Make sure the "can grow" option is checked to display the results and also check for case sensitivity of "comments".

  • Problem converting U8 array to date-time string

    Hi All,
    How can I convert U8 array (time_t data type from C dll) to date time string?
    A dll function that I am calling has a structure of string, integer and time_t as one of the parameters. Instead of passing cluster, I pass an array of U8 of the size that the structure should be. All the members of the strcuture and parsed correctly except the date/time.
    Function Parameter:
    typedef struct {
    Int AlarmState ;
    Int AlarmGrade ;
    TCHAR AlarmMessage [100] ;
    time_t AlarmTimeStamp ;
    } WV_ALARM_INFO ;
    Total size = 4 + 4 + 100 + 4 = 112
    Using Call Library Function, I set the parameter type to Array of U8 and size 112.
    After the array is populated when the function is called, I have done the following to interpret date and time.
    1) Using Extract Zero Terminated String.VI I converted U8 array (of size 4) to string.
    2) Type casted string to integer (I32).
    3) Swap bytes
    4) Swap Words
    5) Format Date/Time String.
    Please see the attached screenshot for visual display of the above.

  • LV 8.5.X: Converting String Data/Time to Timestamp

    Hello again,
    is there really no convenient way to convert a String Data/Time to an
    Timestamp?
    Thanks and greetings
    Udo

    You can use the Scan from String function:
    Look at the bottom for an example. If you can't get the format string right, you can configure a timestamp control/indicator to what you need and then use the properties (right click) then select Advanced at the bottom to get the string you need.
    Now is the right time to use %^<%Y-%m-%dT%H:%M:%S%3uZ>T

  • Convert Data type from Oracle Data time string to SQL Date time data type

    I have a time stamp column pulled from oracle into a SQL server db table varchar datatype column.
    Now i want to change that column to date time.
    Following is the data present in the table:
    01-APR-11 02.15.00.026000 AM -08:00
    01-APR-11 04.15.00.399000 AM -08:00
    01-APR-11 06.15.00.039000 AM -08:00
    I want to convert this data into sql server datetime data type.
    Please advice.
    Thanks,
    Sam.
    I am unable to find the solution in other sites which is why I have posted it in Oracle forum for seeking solution.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Sam.

    Sam,
    How are you actually loading the data into SQL*Server - are you using something like an Oracle gateway, BCP or another Microsoft utility of some sort ?
    If you are using an Oracle problem then we may be able to help but if using a Microsoft utility then you should really follow up with Microsoft to know what format the data should be in to use a Microsoft utility.

  • Internationalization  issue : convert date/time to GMT/UTC

    We have our webservices running in websphere /oracle.There is this requirement to internationalize the application ...like
    a) language .....
    d)Internatiolization of time :
    For this requirment I am planning to do the following.Service request with date will be converted to GMT before it is stored in database and the response back will be converted from GMT back to the time zone of the requester and have the application server/database server configured to UTC time.Is this a good strategy or is there a better one.

    Sabre,to confirm again...you are suggesting that there is even no need to change the oracle Date field from Date type to Timestamp.The only thing I really have to do is for display purpose convert/format the response date to the zone the request is coming from.Please let me know if I missed anything.The above statement is indefinite.
    Are you starting with a java.util.Date or perhaps a java.sql.Timestamp?
    Then you do NOT convert them. You display them. You use SimpleDateFormat for that. You do not concern yourself at all with timezones exception in terms of creating a SimpleDateFormat. And that is ONLY an issue if you are creating the string (display value) on a server. If you are doing that you will need the client to provide you with a timezone. There is no magic way to get that from the client. If a client app is doing the display the the client is running in a client VM and that VM will already have a display format that might be suitable.
    Conversely if you are receiving a timestamp value as a text value (say read it from a file) then you must convert that into a java.util.Date. You do that via SimpleDateFormat. The specifics of how you do that depends on the form of the text value.

  • Convert date/time to Unix epoch

    I have thousands of date time stamps I would like to convert to Unix epoch ten-digit strings. That is, take some thing like:
    Dec 9, 2005 10:24 AM
    and convert to
    1234567890 (only in the correct unix epoch time)
    What formula can I use? I've found that this "=DATE(1970,1,1)+P2/86400" can convert a 10 string epoch time down to just a date correctly, but without time. But I need to go in the opposite direction, with the time included.
    Using Numbers 09 ver 2.0.5 (368)

    CP,
    An up-to-date Unix Time would be provided by:
    =DUR2SECONDS((NOW()-"1/1/1970"))
    A somewhat more robust form would be:
    =DUR2SECONDS(NOW()-DATE(1970,1,1))
    If the time to be converted is in Cell P2, the expression would be:
    =DUR2SECONDS(P2-DATE(1970,1,1))

  • CMC not converting parameter correctly YYYYMM to Real Date Time

    I have a paramater in a report that is a string because the value is stored in the database as a string: YYYYMM.
    I need to convert this string parameter into a real date time (Assuming the last day of the month)
    I've tried this a number of ways which work fine in my desktop Crystal client but CMC changes the values.
    For Year I'm using this function:
    numbervar DateInput;
    numbervar DtYear;
    DateInput:= {?p_RevYRMOEndRange};
    DtYear:= ToNumber (mid(ToText (DateInput),1,4));
    DtYear;
    which returns 2010 for example on the desktop, and 201 in infoview/CMC
    For the Month my function is:
    numbervar DateInput;
    stringvar DtMo;
    numbervar DtMoNum;
    DateInput:= {?p_RevYRMOEndRange};
    DtMo:= (Right(ToText (DateInput),2));
    DtMoNum:= ToNumber (DtMo);
    DtMoNum;
    which returns 2 on my desktop and 0 in CMC.
    Any ideas on a different way I could do this which might be more reliable in CMC?
    Thanks,
    John

    numbervar DateInput;
    numbervar DtYear;
    DateInput:= {?p_RevYRMOEndRange};
    DtYear:= ToNumber (mid(ToText (DateInput),1,4));
    DtYear;
    2010 and 201 looks like there is a leading space
    try to print
    numbervar DateInput;
    DateInput:= ">"+{?p_RevYRMOEndRange}+"<";
    and then look at trim options

  • How to compare Date/time string

    I read from datalog file including Date/time string ,and want to query the special Date/time string span ,how to compare the data/time string ?

    Hello Joshua,
    To compare date/time you have to extract the different components (day, month, year, hour, minute, second) anyway. Why not "convert to seconds"? I think it's easier to compare one number (where you also can do other math, like calc the difference and so on) than to compare seven (?) parameters with some exceptions... If the dates are read from excel (there was a similar thread some days ago), why not convert to seconds in excel (just a format change)?

  • Problems converting FILETIME date/time into MM/DD/YYYY format...

    Has anyone successfully converted a FILETIME date/time value into a MM/DD/YYYY format using ColdFusion? I am failing drastically, and it seems like an easy conversion.
    FILETIME format (details: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms724284(v=vs.85).aspx) is a 64-bit value representing the number of 100-nanosecond intervals since January 1, 1601 (UTC).
    A database I'm working with has such values, and I want to display them in a user-friendly date format within my application.
    For example, one record is:
    13003368600
    The above number represents the following date and time:
    1/22/2013 @ 2:50 PM
    Sadly I know this only because the FILETIME value gets written to the database by a third-party application, and within that application I specify it in the MM/DD/YYYY format.
    Can anyone offer me some guidance, or better yet has anyone accomplished this already and want to share code?

    I did this, on cf9/linux, and it seemed to do the trick:
    <cfscript>
    Long = createObject("java","java.lang.Long");
    Date = createObject("java","java.util.Date");
    fileTimeToEpoch =
    // take pwdLastSet From Active Directory, it's in filetime
    pwdLastSet = JavaCast("long", Long.parseLong("130292682204519505"));

    // http://www.silisoftware.com/tools/date.php - converted: jan 1, 1970 00:00 -00
    javaTime = JavaCast("long", pwdLastSet - 116444736000000000);
    // convert to milliseconds
    javaTime = JavaCast("long", javaTime / 10000);
    today = JavaCast("string", Date.init(javaTime));
    </cfscript>

  • Discussion - Date/Time POJO property - String or java.util.Date

    Hi,
    I always wonder how date/time should be declared in POJOs - String or java.util.Date. I have used both and always felt comfortable with String but still would like to know your views. (In DB datatype is datetime).
    I know some of you will say "as per requirement" but what I have experienced we never give too much thought and when we have issues down the line we start wondering.

    I always wonder how date/time should be declared in POJOs - String or java.util.Date. I have used both and always felt comfortable with String but still would like to know your views.
    (In DB datatype is datetime).If the latter is a given, then I would definitely use a Date. Doing the Date/String conversion at the DAO level seems an improper location; in particular, it constrains what upper layers can do with it:
    - if the business logic has to do date/time computation, it will have to convert back to Date (or Joda DateTime)
    - if the UI needs a different representation than the one that was used in the DAO (such as, different time zone, or showing only the month, whatever,...) it will probably need such a conversion too, and another one for the reformatting (or clumsy code parsing the date string).
    I know some of you will say "as per requirement" but what I have experienced we never give too much thought and when we have issues down the line we start wondering.I can easily see the issues caused by premature conversion to String. But what kind of issues do you risk if you keep the Date representation?
    In summary, I'm all in favor of using a Date (or Joda DateTime ) all along, until it's eventually displayed.

  • Day of year bug - format date/time string and scan from string?

    I've noticed that the day of year returned by "Format Date/Time String.vi" starts with a value of 1 for Jan-1 while "Scan from String.vi" wants a 0 index.  Is this a bug or feature?
    (I'm using Labview 2010 Service Pack 1)

    I think the best idea is to use seconds since for your arithmetic, because it is going to be the most consistent and robust solution. Knowing that a day has 86400 seconds is all that is needed and you won't run in possible inconsistencies with date time implementations caused by our anything but logic calender. I would hazard that the functionality of converting a timestamp into year and day of year and back is impossible to make consistent without sacrificing other possibly conflicting transformation in the Timestamp into String and Timestamp from String manipulations.
    "Seconds since" being the actual base unit in all LabVIEW timestamps, it is best to do any arithmetic on it in this base unit.
