Datecombo won't work under JRE1.5.0_06

Hi,
I am working on converting Java code from JRE 1.4.2 to 1.5.0_06.
Our application works fine under JRE1.4.2, but not JRE1.5.0_06.
I am having a problem to load an applet with DateComboBox widget. It is working under eclipse with JRE1.5.0_05. Once it is loaded to IE 6.0 Browser, the Mouse events are disable inside browser.
I have checked setups for Java security and setups for Java under Browser. It looks fine. Also, the same code works fine for JRE1.4.2.

Application worked under Adminstrator account but won't work under standard

I wanted to setup the Toontown Launcher application for my son under his "standard user" account. But the application only works when I log in as an administrator, it won't work when my son log in as a standard user. It said "Cannot run application from this location. Copy app to desktop." I tried to copy it to desktop but it still won't work with same error message. FYI, I did not turn on Parent Control for the standard user account. Anybody knows why? Most apps for a Mac are just drag & drop, although some require installers. Those that do usually have uninstallers. I've never used a 3rd-party uninstaller in 25 years of using Macs, so can't comment on them. Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 Won't Work Under One User Account in Windows Vista 32-bit

My Logitech HD Webcam C920 seems to work fine online on Flash Player under all user accounts except one. How do I fix this without having to delete that user account?

Thing is (and this is just basic troubleshooting principles):
If it works (under any account at all), - it ISN'T the camera, or it wouldn't work at all. Likewise, if it DIDN'T work under any account, it COULD be the camera.
If it works (under any account at all), - it ISN'T flash player, or it wouldn't work at all. Likewise, if it DIDN'T work under any account, it COULD be Flash Player.
So the problem HAS to be specific to this one account, and some setting(s) for the account, since the plug-in and hardware have already been proven to be working.
Unless you can pinpoint what setting for this one accoiunt is preventing it from working, you'll most likely have to create a new account to use it.

Executable jar won't work under some directories

I don't know how this works under windows:
The executable jar file I have created will work in some directory locations but not others.
I had moved it to some folder and it stopped working. I moved it back to where it was before and
it worked. What I discovered was that it would work in folders that had no spaces in their names.
For example it would wouldn't work under 'My Documents'. Is this common?

I wouldn't say "common" but it does happen. There are known bugs in the java.io.File object when it tries to deal with filenames containing spaces. (I just ran into one of them myself last week.)
You may be able to fix your code to deal with whatever problem you are having. It's embarrassing to have to distribute an application saying "Don't put this in a directory with a space in its name" but I've installed software from a large company (one whose name is three initials) with just that statement in the installation instructions.

ISync palm conduit in 10.5 - won't work under user imported from 10.4?

My Palm m500 was syncing fine with my PowerBook G4 running Mac OS 10.4
I recently got a spiffy new MacBook Pro (Penryn) with 10.5, and although the Palm does communicate and sync via Palm Desktop, it no longer syncs via iSync with iCal & Address Book. I keep getting the following in the hotsync log:

Other info:
I imported the user info for my main user from the old 10.4 installation using Migration Assistant.
• Deleted old Palm HotSync & Desktop files from the username:Library:Application Support, as palm preference files from username:Library:Preferences
• Copied the old user folder to an alternate location, and removed the Palm folder from username:Documents:
• Re-installed Palm Desktop 4.2.1 under main user (authorized as an "administrator" temporarily)
• Sync worked (no data on Palm Desktop, but everything backed up ok), HotSync even recovers and creates a new user based on the data on the device, and even backs up all the programs.
• Enabled Palm Os Syncing from within iSync (works fine, so long as the account being used has read/write permissions to HD:Library:Application Support:Palm HotSync:Conduits)
• "Enable iSync for this palm device" from the iSync conduit within HotSync Manager.
During a sync, iSync kicks in and "connects", but can't get past AddressBook syncing, and never actually sends info to the Palm device. Presumably, this is where the "NULL message" is received and syncing stops. When I specify "Erase data on device then sync" in iSync (for first syncronization), it does indeed erase address book data on the device, but never sends anything to replace it, but also does not touch the calendar data on the palm device.
Furthermore, I tried the same procedure when logged in as another administrator account (what is normally the main administrator account on this computer), and synced first without iSync, then enabling "iSync for this Palm device". Under this other account, the syncing works. I can add events to iCal, and contacts to address book, and they are transferred sucessfully and synced with the palm device. But it still does not work when logged in as the main user (even when administrator privileges are enabled, which I normally don't want), which actually has all my iCal and Address book data (which syncs successfully through .Mac with my computer at work).
There should be plenty of free space on the device for all my calendar & contact data (3MB).
Given that syncing DOES work for one administrator user (which was never before set-up for this), but not for the user that was imported from 10.4 and was syncing successfully before, I have a suspicion that there's either some leftover files that I missed, or a permissions conflict within the user's home folder that I am missing. Has anyone else been able to resolve this issue, or have any suggestions based on this information?

Experimentation reveals that:
• replacing the old addressbook data with blank allows syncing to work without problems.
• having multiple groups causes the same error: BUT only on the first sync (set to “Erase data on device then sync”, but also if set to “merge”). Adding groups after a successful initial sync did not interfere with further syncs.
• deleting groups from existing AddressBook data does allow a successful first sync.
• but adding them back in again breaks the sync.
Having no groups would seem to allow a successful sync.

I don’t want to have to limit myself to this. I do use groups rather a lot and it would be frustrating to have to give up using them just so I can sync my Palm in Leopard.
The following does NOT solve the problem:
1. Move old Address Book data to a backup location (after exporting AddressBook library)
2. do a first sync
3. re-import full Address Book data from archive
4. continue with regular syncs.
• only sync one Group still leads to the same error.
• iSync 2 doesn’t run under Leopard (error message along the lines of “You can’t use this software with this version of Mac OS”).
• I also tried to use the previous iSync palm conduit (v3.0.2 instead of v3.1.0), but got the same errors.
For now, I removed all the groups and synced my contacts to my Palm, but I then turned off syncing for contacts within iSync, so I could recover all my Address Book Groups. Fortunately, I need to update Calendar information more often than contact info, and I won’t be able to change contact info on the Palm device. When I do want to do a periodic update to my Palm device, I will have to:
1. Backup my address book
2. Delete all groups (but not the contacts within them, which stay in the library itself)
3. Turn contact syncing on in iSync
4. Sync the Palm device
5. Turn contact syncing OFF in iSync
6. Recover my Address Book Library & groups from backup
Not as simple as I would expect from Apple software ... I hope this issue gets fixed in iSync 3 (Leopard).

Send Unix command won't work under 10.2.8

So I am running this command in a lab of 10.2.8 machines. I go to send Unix Command then I put this in:

It doesn't appear that the System Events under 10.2.x responds to the keystroke command (it doesn't appear in the AppleScript Dictionary.)

IMessage Won't Work Under Cellular Data

Hi everyone!
My fiance has an iPhone 3GS and we are having trouble with the iMessage. It works fine under wifi but once it starts using cellular data, it stops sending and recieving iMessages.
It used to be my old phone and I just gave it to him not even a week ago. It had worked and then suddenly stopped. I have tried everything! Turning off and on iMessage, turning off and on celluar data, turning on and off airplane mode. Nothing seems to work.
I know on one forum it said to completely restore the phone and bring it up as a new phone rather than use a backup. Anyone have any other ideas before we do that?

On iPhone, if iMessage is unavailable, the message may be sent as SMS or MMS, depending on content. Carrier messaging rates may apply. You can adjust this behavior in iPhone at Settings > Messages > Send As SMS. Messages sent using iMessage appear in a light blue bubble, while messages sent using SMS or MMS appear in a green bubble.

RenameTo won't work under OS/2 ?

i have a small program I wrote on Windows. It copies
some files from one machine to another by building
pathnames and using the 'renameTo' function under
java.io.File. However, when I tried to port it over to OS/2,
it stopped working altogether. THe renameTo function
will not work. I even tried a practice class where I
attempted to copy:
d:\\surs\\report\\Test.zip
to
P:\\surs\\report\\Test.zip
the first file is present and everything, but it still fails!
Plus, the destination folder exists. It is just strange. Does
anyone know why Java will not complete the 'renameTo'
under OS/2? thanks

Moving a file from D: to P: is moving from one file system to another. Apparently the implementation of Java on OS/2 cannot do it. You'll have to copy it manually and then delete the orignal file.

Oracle 8.1.7 client installer won't work under windows 2000

I am trying to run the latest oracle client install of 8.1.7 on my windows 2000 PC and when I double click on it, it show the hour glass for a few seconds, then nothing happens. No screens come up at all. I have a Dell PC with an ATI rage 16 MB ultra card and I have dowlnloaded the latest jre 1.1.8 and nothing helps. If I try another kind of PC like my ibm, the installer works fine. Dell has no answers??

I found the solution on another discussion group and it worked for WinNT4 SP6a:
First copy your CD content to your hard disk (by example c:\temp), then rename file "symcjit.dll" (by example "symcjit.old") in directory "c:\temp\Stage\Components\Oracle.swd.jre\1.1.7.30\1\DataFiles\Expanded\jre\win32\bin".
Finally, run Setup.exe in directory "c:\temp\Install\Win32".

Ipod won't work under Windows Vista on Equium A200

I've had my Ipod for over a year now i used it fine on my old computer which was running on XP.
I now have my laptop Equium A200 series running on vista.
When i first connected my ipod to it it showed up and asked if i would like to connect my ipod to this computer instead of the other pc so i accepted.
It cleared all my songs so i can put my new music on.
Once it had done this my laptop could not pick up my ipod anywhere.
When I connect my ipod in the laptop makes a noise to show it's recognised it's been connected, but when i go to itunes it doesn't show up.
I've been into device manager to check there it has a ipod symble with an ! mark next to it, so i click update driver but nothing is ever found.
My Ipod charges fine and works fine, i've been on apple website looking for solutions i've restored my ipod everything they've sugested but nothing seems to work. Can someone please help me i miss using my ipod.

Hm, maybe you should reinstall the Ipod software. That would be the only idea I have. Otherwise you should take a look at the BIG Apple forum. ;)

Color selection won't work under Yosemite

Since I upgraded to Yosemite on my MacPro CS6 color selector fails to work. It either says "no pixels were selected" or selects the wrong color or even, sometimes (non-repeatable) the inverse. I have tried every setting I can find but no change in behavior. Rebooted the machine. Nothing. Magic wand works fine. What is wrong?

Go to the Setup room, then go to the User Prefs tab. Make sure that "update UI during Playback" "Update Primary Display" and "Update Secondary Display" are all checked on. This should fix your issue.

I have applications which won't work now lion 10.7 is installed do I have to re-install them all?

Depends on what they are.
If they are old, PowerPC based programs, they won't work under Lion. If they are Universal applications, then reinstalling might work. However, you should check with the developer to see if there are any updates.

Which extensions no longer work under 3.6.6 ?

I hesitate to upgrade to 3.6.6 because whenever I upgrade some extension gets clobbered.
Mozilla gives no hint about which extensions won't work under a new release, so I'm loath to upgrade.
Is there a list somewhere of extensions clobbered or not by 3.6.6?

The problem here is that Firefox does not develop the addons. Most addons are developed by outside people and therefore we don't support them. I would upgrade to 3.6.6 and by now most addons should be up to date and if there not give it a week or two. Note all the addons I use all work with the latest version of Firefox.

MSI - P7N Diamond ESATA doesn't work under XP

I have 2 P7N Diamond motherboards and am running XP Pro/sp2.
I have never been able to get the esata ports to work. I have spent the last 4 months RMAing boards back and forth to MSI. I have tried at least 4 motherboards, 3 esata external drives, and 3 cables (all 6 feet).
Sometimes on the upper port (lower port doesn't work at all), the drives get detected in bios as gibberish. Other times it is listed correctly in post, but then I get a "9th slave hard disk error". I press F1 to resume, enter the bios, and the drive shows up. The drive never gets detected in windows, however.
In bios I have the Extra IDE/RAID Controller enabled and RAID mode is set to IDE.
In XP I have the JMP36X IDE Controller installed.
During all this time, MSI Tech Support has insisted that I am doing everything right. I called them last night and they mentioned doing an rma yet again, but when I called back today and talked to someone else, he told me that esata only works under vista in AHCI mode. He said that it won’t work under XP in IDE or AHCI mode.
Hope someone can help me!!
