Db links and database copy

Oracle 11.1
The Production database (A) has an application owner schema (C) with a private database link to a secure HR/payroll type Oracle database (B). Since it is a private db link, even users with "select any table" on (A) are unable to query across the link. Only C@A is able to access the secure data in B and that is as it should be.
But when database A is copied over to a QA/UAT environment (D), passwords are changed and many other people have access to schema C.
Question: In this scenario, if someone logs in to C@D, would he be able to use the db link to access the secure data in (B)? i.e.are the db link credentials preserved during the database copy? If so, how would this be prevented?

1) Yes, the db link credentials are preserved during the database copy.
2) a) Change the credentials to connect to a userid in the target database with limited permissions, or b) Point the db link to the corresponding development/stage database or c) remove the db link.

What's the difference between client copy with sap_all and doing a database copy.
I know if I do a database copy from Production to our Quality system.
I need to install the license key
restore the production library to the quality library
Initialize TMS and so on.
I know if I want to copy to our Development system. I would need to run either a remote client copy or and export/import since I cannot do a database copy because I would loose all my other clients in Development.
My question is, if the quality systems and the production systems are on the same support packs, same kernel.
What does a database copy give you (besides being faser) that a remote client copy or export/import of a client copy does.

Hello Joe,
If there is inconsistent Z tables between QAS and PRD, remote client copy could fail, especially when the table on PRD has longer length or more fields than the one on QAS.
Also the source client should has no-activity during the client copy, otherwise the application data could be inconsistent. For example, some material documents are copied, but not the corresponding financial documents. (For PRD client, it could be hours between the times those tables are copied.) For database restore, it is rarely an issue.

We are trying to copy database from SAP BW7.0 to SAP BW on HANA 7.4 SPS6 so we are in search for list of steps or activities during database copy both pre and post steps.
Along with the above we are in search of Pre and post migration steps ones database is transferred successfully from oracle to HANA on 7.4 SPS6.

CHARM and System Copy (Database Copy)

Dear All,
Does anyone have experience on managing System Copy (Database Copy) on the SAP Landscape which are implementing Centralize CHARM on Solution Manager?
Case:
Transport route : DEV --> QAS --> PRD
CHARM centralize managed in: SLM.
Now, QAS will be refreshed from PRD (by Database Copy) .
How to ensure the following will be kept consistence:
1. IMG Status on satelite systems
2. SMI Project data linked to satelite systems
3. Support Desk data (Support/notification messages, Business
Partner,iBase,etc) related with CHARM linked to satelite systems
4. Status of SMI Project cycle data linked to satelite systems
I have tried it on Simulation landscape, seems many manually steps need to be done (eg. Redo all RFC definitions to the refreshed system) and some of above data are inconsistence ..

Is there a way to select MULTIPLE tabs and then copy ALL of the the URLs and titles/or URLs+titles+HTML links? This can be done with the Multiple Tab Handler add on; However, I prefer to use a Firefox feature rather than download an add on. Thanks.

Currently, I can copy ONE tab's url and nothing else (not its name). Or I can bookmark all tabs that are open. However, I'd like to have the ability to select multiple tabs and then copy ALL of the the URLs AND their titles/or copy ALL of the URLs+titles+HTML links? This can be done with the Multiple Tab Handler add on; when I download the add on, I get a message saying that using the add on will disable Firefox's tab features. I prefer to use Firefox features rather than download and use an add on. Is there a way to do this without an add on?

You should definitely be able to upload multiple files by Shift-clicking or Ctrl-clicking the files you want to upload. Just to make sure you don't have an old version of the service cached, please clear the browser cache and then log in to https://cloud.acrobat.com/files. After clicking the File Upload icon in the upper-right corner, you should be able so select multiple files for upload.

We can create a mailbox database, then run EMC and EMS to create a database copy.

Note: please pay attention to Prerequisites section, for example:
1. The specified Mailbox server must not already host a copy of the specified mailbox database.
2. The server hosting the specified database and the server that will host the database copy must both be in the same database availability group (DAG). The DAG must also have quorum and be healthy.

This one you should lift from Dropbox. When right-clicking a file and selecting Share Link, don't send me out to creative.adobe.com. Just make me a public link and copy it to my clipboard, allowing me to paste it into a message, email, tweet, whatever. Going out to the site and verifying the creation of a public link feels bureaucratic.

Select text or image. Go to Link field on the Properties panel. If you don't see Properties, hit Ctrl+F3.

Link template and database

I am creating a template from a existing document that uses a database thru php for it's contents. For some reason When I save it as template ( i chooce update link) It does not show the images. Also it does not create the link properly. A couple of things to note :
The image is called by a database field from image folder.
link is also called upon from a database field.
They both work fine in the document but when I create a template or another document based on template the link and image does not work . here are code from the template

You can use the templates for Oracle Enterprise Linux.
According to Readme:
"The oracle-rdbms-server-11gR2-preinstall package is installed in the templates
before the Oracle Linux 6 Update 4 templates. This package installs software
packages and sets system parameters that are required for Oracle single instance
and Real Application Cluster install for Oracle Linux Release 6.
This package creates the 'oracle' user, with an initial login group of 'oinstall',
a supplementary group of 'dba', and a home directory of /home/oracle. The
Oracle-validated package disables logins by the user 'oracle', and the password is
locked for the 'oracle' user by default. To enable the 'oracle' user account, log in
as the 'root' user to the guest virtual machine after it is booted."
If you choose to use OEL 6 Update 4 you can install the package using the package manager.

Clones and database links

Hi,
I have generally found that after an instance (E-Business Suite) is cloned, the database links do not work in the cloned instance, and have to be recreated.
Is there a reason why the database links do not work, as the target instance (in the db link) and its credentials remain the same?

Hi Carlo,
I am not the DBA, so will not be able to answer any of your questions.
I am in the Development team and just found it odd that a DB link needs to be re-created after a clone, even though all the information remains the same. The DBA team was not able answer my question - they just said that it is a step that needs to be done. I do not know how the tnsnames entries look, but I assume that is somehow having an impact as mentioned in the prior posts.

Database copy is failed and suspended

Hi Everyone,
My environment is Exchange server 2010 sp3, two sites one denver one houston, 2 DAGs and DR server of each DAG is placed on the second DAG.
Scenario is
Site 1:denmbx1,denmbx2 and den1 are hosted on denver DAG01
Site 2: HOUmbx1,HOUmbx2 and HOU1 are hosted on DAG02
We've had outage few days back and now one mailbox database copy on one DR server is FAILED and SUSPNEDED while rest of the databases are Fine.
Now i cannot resume and update this database copy.
CAn anyone please help on this?

Hi,
You can reseed database copy manually to check result. You need to dismount the active copy of the database and copy the database file (EDB file) to the same location on Mailbox server in
the DR site. If you use this method, there will be an interruption in service because the process requires you to dismount the database.
1. If circular logging is enabled for the database, it must be disabled before proceeding.
2.
On the server who holds the active copy of the mailbox database, dismount this mailbox database.
3.
Verify that database is in a Clean Shutdown state.
4.
If it is Dirty Shutdown, we must use the command “ESEUTIL /r” to manually recover the database.
5.
Copy the edb file to passive node to the same path as the active database copy.
6. Perform seeding operation using following command:
Update-MailboxDatabaseCopy -Identity "database name / server name"
To check if the above steps finished successfully. We could run the following command to check the mailbox database copy status:
Get-MailboxDatabase| Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus

In the databse it's created a table with the same name of dictionary table, u should get a book of SQL command, or see the SQL command in Internet, for example search the command CREATE TABLE

Problems with domain name in global_name and database links

I have to create a database link on Oracle 9i **without** a domain. Somehow whenever I create a database link, a domain is added. This domain seems to be the domain that is also added to the database global name (and is the same as my TCP/IP domain on my windows machine).
I tried to create the db link:
create database link "TEST"
connect to remotedb
identified by mypassword
using 'myservicename';
and get:
TEST.DOMAIN.COM instead of TEST.
I also tried to change my database global name:
alter database rename global_name to NEWNAME
and still the database name is NEWNAME.DOMAIN.COM
So there does not seem to be any way to remove the domain.
Note that:
- db_domain is not set in init.ora
- names.default_domain is not set in sqlnet.ora
- global_names = false
So... how to get rid of the domain part?

this is not what you want to hear, but once a global_name has a domain associated with it you can't get rid of it, you can change it to a different domain with the alter database command but not to null and it is this domain that will always get appended as default to your db link name so your stuck with it

Difference between create database link and create shared Database link

Hi Guys,
can any one suggest me where to use "create database link" statement and where to use "Create shared database link". I have only idea that using shared database link the process can reuse connections already established to the remote server.
In my envrionment I am used to connect with db link but sometimes its not working so try with shared link and its working fine. In local as well as remote database we are using DEDICATED only not the shared server.
so, what the cause behind this?
Any suggestion?

Seed mailbox database copy through replication network (DAG members on different subnets in different sites)

Good afternoon
I currently operate a two node DAG in our primary site supporting one mailbox database. I plan to introduce a third DAG node in our datacenter which is in a different Active Directory site. Both current DAG members replicate over a dedicated replication
network to keep the traffic separate from the MAPI traffic. The third DAG member will also have a dedicated replication network adapter (of course, on a different subnet). Ideally I would like to seed the database at a time of my choosing, rather than at the
moment I add the mailbox database copy (I know how to achieve this), but I would like to specify which network the data replicates over.
According to the following (see below link) under the 'Seeding and Networks' section as my two DAG members will be on different subnets in different sites Exchange will make the decision to use the MAPI network adapters of the target and source server.
'If the source server and target server are on different subnets, even if a replication network that contains those subnets has been configured, the client (MAPI) network will be used for seeding.'

Am I able to force Exchange to use the replication network adapters of both source and target server when I initiate the seeding process? I have a 200+ GB mailbox database that will need to replicate over a 100Mbps internet connection to our secondary

If you want to specify the networks for seeding, you can use the
Network parameter when running the
Update-MailboxDatabaseCopy cmdlet and specify the DAG networks that you want to use.
If you don't use the Network parameter, then the system uses the following default behavior for selecting a network to use for the seeding operation:
If the source server and target server are on the same subnet and a replication network has been configured that includes the subnet, the replication network will be used.
If the source server and target server are on different subnets, even if a replication network that contains those subnets has been configured, the client (MAPI) network will be used for seeding.
If the source server and target server are in different datacenters, the client (MAPI) network will be used for seeding.
So please use the Update-MailboxDatabaseCopy cmdlet with
NetWork parameter to specify which DAG network should be used for seeding.
