DB Shrink

I am planning to Shrink a DB thats been in use for several months. I was going through information in this link - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms189080(v=sql.105).aspx and came to know if the Database is been using indexes, not to shrink
(under Best practices).
I was also running the SQL query which I found in this web site - http://blog.sqlauthority.com/2008/10/03/sql-server-2008-find-if-index-is-being-used-in-database/ and found that the Index is been used in the particular DB.
I am new to Shrinking DB, Can you please let me know if thats fine to Shrink or any good practice to follow...??? Please let me know...

Shrink operations can be performed only on segments in locally managed tablespaces with automatic segment space management (ASSM). Within an ASSM tablespace, all segment types are eligible for online segment shrink except these:
    IOT mapping tables
Tables with rowid based materialized views
Tables with function-based indexesSince this is an IOT, any chance there is an IOT mapping table?
Since this appears to be a data warehouse, any chance there are ROWID based materialized views or function-based indexes?

  • Online Rebuild Index Vs Shrinking With Compact Segment with Release space

    Hi All,
I want to know which is the better option from these as far as availabiltiy of index
    is concerned
I have been doing online INdex rebuild and haven't faced much problems but new to Shrinking
What Grid COntrol says about shrinking is
"This will first compact the segments and then release the recovered space to the tablespace.
During the short space release phase, any cursors referencing this segment may be
invalidated and queries on the segment could be affected"
I dont know how much is that affect...Can anybody share their experience and knowledge
    about shrinking .....
My Idea is to reclaim the space from the INdexes
    Thanks
    Gagan

It depends on many factors of which you have mentioned none.
The affect of cursor invalidation, for example, might be different on Monday than on Tuesday.
You should test this in as real a simulated environment as you can but likely any issues will be minimal.
Just don't be surprised by a surprise or two.

  • Firefox shrinks flash objects if dynamically written from javascript but not if static in html

firefox shrinks flash objects if the code for the and are written to the page via document.write() in javascript during page load. The object is rendered correctly if the same and are tags in the html document.

    Hi Tom,
This looks like a real bug. The problem is this forum is for end user support.

  • Making Text Box Shrink To Text

I'm designing a form with a text box that can grow, which I've done successfully.  The problem is as the user is typing on the next line the previous line scrolls up and is hidden from view.  It expands when the user exits but I think it would be useful if they saw all that they were typing.
I was playing with mouseEnter setting the height to say 2" which would be more than enough, then on mouseExit setting back to the default of .25" expand to fit is checked but  the text box maintains the .25" no matter how much text and the scroll bars appear.  I don't want to start shrinking font size.
    Thanks Mike

  • I am trying to sync my iphone with itunes music and have selected 'entire music library', which shows a large amount of potential music data to be transferred.  Trouble is after sync, the bar shrinks back to just the content of one particular Playlist!?

Please can anyone help?  I am trying to sync my iphone music with itunes, but am finding that as soon as the sync is complete the data bar shrinks back from almost full (my entire music library) to just 100 songs, which happen to be the contents of one playlist I have.  i cannot seem to change the music content on my phone no matter what?  PS when I hit sync the capacity bar fills up, but when I apply, it drops back to just those songs I already mentioned :- (

thank you randers4, unfortunately these restrictions aren't to blame.  Now I realise the problem - I tried to play some of the music and found out that the source data wasn't attached.  The computer was rebuilt and backed up - and it seems perhaps hasn't all been copied back.  I am currently attempting to copy accross some itunes files from my backup drive.  Bit confused, too many itunes files of different types but fingers crossed getting closer to the solution......?

  • When I open my iPad the page is too big for the screen and won't shrink down. The keypad has also become very 'sticky'

Recently when I open any apps the pages are too big for the screen. They shrink when pinched but immediately become bigger again. It's very difficult to scroll too. The keypad has become very sticky. Missing letters and spaces when I type and needing to tap the keys much harder than usual

I have the exact same problem, I think.  I was on my iPad 3's home page swiping R-L to locate a certain icon when all of a sudden the screen appeared to get HUGE.  So big I could only see one or two icons.  I couldn't even turn it off to try a reboot because after I pushed the sleep/wake button, I couldn't find the red slide bar.  I finally just had to wait for the battery to die, then recharge it, and it looked normal again.  I also spoke with several friends who haven either iPads or iPhones, and they've all had this happen to them.  I checked my accessibility settings, and Zoom was already off.  So what is causing this problem for so many people, and what can we do to prevent it?  Please help.

  • Email pdf to windows reduces / shrinks pdf

I've had a recent problem that's never happened before.  When I send a PDF to a windows user, the PDF shrinks.  I'm not talking about file size, but when they open the document, it's 50-75% of the original size and hard to read.
On my computer everything looks fine.  I'm not using any filters to reduce file size.

  • How do I make one block shrink as another grows to replace it?

I'm trying to show some sort of Magic Move or Action event that show two objects in slide one that become one object in slide two when Object A shrinks to nothing and Object B grows to fill the space vacated by the absence of A.
In other words, say I have two mutual funds, Fund A with 26k in and Fund B with 24k. I want to automate the sale of Fund B by having it shrink to zero while Fund A simultaneously increases to 50 as the money from the sale of Fund A is reinvested into Fund B.
I tried a Magic Move which successfully grew Fund A but it failed to shrink Fund B to zero - instead it just made it disappear. I want the shrinking action to look like the growing action, only in reverse. If I used the Action Build each action followed on from the last, the rectangle didn't shrink along its length, but towards its centre, and each part move needed a spacebar or arrow key click to activate that process.
I'm using rectangular blocks to represent the Fund values.
    Any suggestions/ideas?
    TIA

I tried something with two vertical columns. Take a look at http://www.troumconsulting.com/upanddown.key
It addresses the growth and shrinking concepts you mention.

  • How can I shrink browser content on an iPad similar to using the Control  /- Shortcut on my laptop?

A website is not showing completely on an ipad and I need to show content that is outside of the brower window. (Shows fine on laptop). Is there a keystroke similar to pressing Control and minus key which shrinks browser content. I am aware of pinching to grow and shrink content but am looking shrink contnet beyond the default size.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Thank you for sending us your PDF document.
We opened your PDF document (pocTest.pdf) in Adobe Reader for iOS version 11.2.4.  The nested bookmarks are displayed correctly.
Perhaps you and your end users have different expectations on how nested bookmarks appear in Reader.  The user interface for Bookmarks in Reader for iOS is indeed different from the one in the desktop version of Reader.
Here are the screenshots of nested bookmarks for the other PDF document iPadUserGuide.pdf.
Initially, Reader for iOS displays the top level bookmarks only.

  • How can I prevent children from shrinking to infinitesimal values on MouseEvents?

    Hi.

you can troubleshoot the issue by adding a 12 frame MovieClip to your Library when you test this code and give it the names I referenced above in Bold.
That is, whomever will have time to help me out.
The problem I'm facing is not with loading the content of the Movie Clip, (though I might experience issues with that later when I try to load dynamic swfs) because as for now I just have placeholders on frames.
What I want to know is why my red squares on the left navigation keep getting smaller as I repeat the MouseOver and MouseOut events.  It doesn't seem that these squares follow the logic of the code the way I have written it.  Some of the code was generated from a previous post with the help of contributors.
Now I have again hit a slight snag with coding the math properly.  Initially when I tested the code it worked fine without any "shrinking" going on.  However, now with more code added the red navigation squares don't bounce back to their original states, they just keep getting smaller.
Can anyone help me with this?
    Kindly thanking in advance,

However, this code only ends up allowing the first thumbnail square to have the event listener.  I tried several variations of placement of the Boolean within the code but in some cases I got that nothing was functioning at all and in some cases I got that the Boolean didn't prevent the shrinking from occuring.  This code is as close as I got to calling the code to stop adding event listeners.
    I also tried:
    var alreadyExecuted+i:Boolean;
    if(!alreadyExecuted+i){
    code
but I got an error telling me that it expects a semicolon before plus.  I guess you can't create numeric instances of  Booleans in the for loop.  The goal was to create a single boolean for each i in the loop to have a total of 12 booleans 0 through 11, one for each thumbnail so that the event listeners don't repeat as you suggested the Boolean would do.
    Still stumped.

So how did you do it?
by understand what iweb widgets do, in this case setting gridEntry widget's scalMode preference from fill to fit.
then reset the displayed image, so it fits in the display area even if it's portrait aspect.
however, i found some glitches in gridEntry widget that's quite strange... but all fix-able.
perhaps, iweb experts (whose had poked at my example) here can chime in.

  • How to setup grow/shrink behavior on a moving group?

SD project. Group consists of 18 evenly spaced SD video clips each individually sized to 40%. The group is positioned near the top of the screen at 100% size.
The group then marches smoothly across the screen by transforming position X over 36 seconds using linear interpolation.
I am trying to cause the group (10 seconds into the timeline) to smoothly increase in size by applying a grow/shrink behavior over 3 seconds while continuing the X transform.
Position Y is changed to keep the location of the top of the group the same while the group grows.
Starts OK and ends OK. Works fine all the way to the end once the behavior finishes. Using the same X transform.
The problem is that during the grow behavior the apparent X and Y axis motion behaves incorrectly. The motion appears to change speed and even briefly reverses direction.
I understand why this is happening but I don't know how to fix it.
I have tried every combination of interpolation for the transforms along with every variation of the grow behavior parameters I can think of.
Everything I have tried makes things worse and/or introduces unwanted side effects.
    Any thoughts?

I tried to implement what you were talking about. Just to make it easier on myself, I did use a 18 piece replicator instead of 18 individual files...so hopefully that doesn't change things. I did not get any reverse or weird X,Y behaviors acting incorrectly. It started at timeline 10:00 and ended at timeline 13:00, grew 120%, and the group had an anchor point set to the top of the group so it would only grow bottom and to the sides. Stuck with the same interpolation and everything. The only thing that looked weird was that the boxes pop back in place after the grow/shrink is done. Which is just because the behavior ends. Now! something that was odd was that I couldn't keyframe any parameters in the behavior?

  • How do I print A4 pages on Letter without shrinking?

We have correspondents in another continent, who are submitting reports, invoices, and other documents as *.pdf files. They are also in a nation which customarily uses A4 paper, not 8.5 x 11 Letter paper.  Every document that they send shrinks when I try to print them.  Problem:  many of these documents are documents which need to be approved with signature; they look much too small compared with similar documents coming from other correspondents.
    Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended v. 9.0.0
How do I set up Acrobat settings to solve this?
    or,
How do the correspondents solve this?
    Thanks,
    John

I think the crop is what you want to do. Just use the crop tool and select a portion of the page, click on the page area, and the crop tool details should pop up. Then adjust the margins as you wish. You might not be able to make them larger, but at least you should be able to avoid the shrinking. I don't play with the tool a lot, but think it should do the job for you.
You might want to go to Adobe.com/downloads and select the updates (upper right) to get to the Acrobat updates. Then down load the first update and give it a try (these updates have to be installed in order). I would suggest getting all of the updates, but you may not be able to install any, thanks to your IT folks, and thus the download would be a waste of time. Try that download and see if it works.
If the download does not install, I would complain to the IT folks. A lot of the updates are security updates and I would think that would be something the IT folks would want to observe (or they are lazy). One failure to update a security update with a resultant failure, would seem to be reason for termination to me. Otherwise, they should let you do it. Fortunately, our IT folks are there to help, not to update and maintain my computer -- the way I like it. However, some faculty really need to have hand holding. You would think that some folks with PhDs would be a bit more computer savvy. So, there are pros and cons depending on the clientelle to IT operations. In many cases I think it is to keep the company out of legal hassles of software pirating and such.
Oh well, maybe I have helped some.
