DB2 Log file Management is not happening properly

Hi experts,
I am running SAP ERP6.0 EHP4 on DB2 9.5 FP4
I have enabled Archive log by providing First Log Archive Method (LOGARCHMETH1) =DISK: /db2/PRD/log_archive
I have brought down SAP & Database and started database .After starting DB ,  taken full offline backup.
Didnu2019t change below parameters as these are replaced by LOGARCHMETH1 in newer versions as per documents.
Log retain for recovery enabled=OFF
User exit for logging enabled =OFF
/db2/PRD/log_dir (Online transaction Logs) is 25% full but I couldnu2019t find even single file in /db2/PRD/log_archive
I am suspecting DB2 Log file Management is not happening properly as I couldnu2019t find any offline transaction logs in /db2/PRD/log_archive file system
Request you let me know where it went wrong & what could be the issue
thanks

Hello,
From your post it seems that there is a space character between "DISK:" and the path you have provided.
Maybe this is only a wrong display here in the forum.
Nevertheless, can you check it in your system, it should rather look like DISK:/db2/PRD/log_archive.
Can you initiate an archive command with the "db2 archive log for db prd" command.
What does the db2diag.log tell for this archiving attempt?

    Thank you for your question, I tested the File Manager app. If you add a new folder or File I also see that it is blank.
    Is it possible from this menu> Settings > App Manager > File Manager > Set Memory Card Storage to Grant.
    Does this show the files after closing and reopening the app?

    What is "file manager?"  Is that a piece of third-party software, or are you referring to the Finder?  If it's third-party software, you'll need to contact the developer for an update or fix.  If the Finder is not working (how is it not working?), then you could try some of the tips in Understanding upgrade nightmares.

    File manager wont show you the apps installed. You will find them thru menu>settings>app manager >installed applications. Press and hold the app you want to remove.

  • "recover database until cancel" asks for archive log file that do not exist

    Hello,
    Oracle Release : Oracle 10.2.0.2.0
    Last week we performed, a restore and then an Oracle recovery using the recover database until cancel command. (we didn't use backup control files) .It worked fine and we able to restart the SAP instances. However, I still have questions about Oracle behaviour using this command.
    First we restored, an online backup.
    We tried to restart the database, but got ORA-01113,ORA-01110 errors :
    sr3usr.data1 needed media recovery.
    Then we performed the recovery :
    According Oracel documentation, "recover database until cancel recovery" proceeds by prompting you with the suggested filenames of archived redo log files.
    The probleme is it  prompts for archive log file that do not exist.
    As you can see below, it asked for SMAarch1_10420_610186861.dbf that has never been created. Therefore, I cancelled manually the recovery, and restarted the database. We never got the message "media recovery complete"

    When restaring the database we could see that, a recovery of online redo log has been performed automatically, is it the normal behaviour of a recovery using "recover database until cancel"  command ?

    Thank you very much for your help.
    Frod.

    Hi,
    Let me answer your query.
    =======================
    Your question: While performing the recovery, is it possible to locate which online redolog is needed, and then to apply the changes in these logs
    1.   When you have current controlfile and need complete data (no data loss),
          then do not go for until cancel recovery.
    2.   Oracle will apply all the redologs (including current redolog) while recovery
         process is    on.
    3.  During the recovery you need to have all the redologs which are listed in the    view    V$RECOVERY_LOG and all the unarchived and current redolog. By querying  V$RECOVERY_LOG  you    can find out about the redologs required.
    4. If the required sequence is not there in the archive destination, and if recovery process    asks for that sequence you can query V$LOG to see whether requested sequence is part of the    online redologs. If yes you can mention the path of the online redolog to complete the recovery.
    Hope this information helps.

  • DB2, Log File has reached its saturation point" DIA8309C Log file was full,

    Hello Experts,
    I have successfully installed a ECC 6.0 System-ABAP + JAVA (DB2 v9.5 windows server 2008-x64 bit).
    Kernel: 700 , Patch: 185 ; SP level : rel 700 , level 17.
    However now i suddenly cannot connect to database and SAP is down.

    "Log File has reached its saturation point" DIA8309C Log file was full.
    "Backup pending.  Database has been made recoverable.  Backup now required."  DIA8168C Backup pending for database .
    Also, regarding DB2 licensing,i have a query:
    db2licm -l gives the following:
    C:\Users\db2dsq.DUCATI>db2licm -l
    Product name:                     "DB2 Enterprise Server Edition"
    License type:                     "CPU Option"
    Expiry date:                      "Permanent"
    Product identifier:               "db2ese"
    Version information:              "9.5"
    Enforcement policy:               "Soft Stop"
    Features:
    DB2 Database Partitioning:        "Licensed"
    DB2 Performance Optimization ESE: "Licensed"
    DB2 Storage Optimization:         "Licensed"

    Product identifier:               "db2consv"

    I have applied both sap and DB2 license. Is everything ok regarding licensing of DB v9.5 for using with SAP?
    I am new to DB2 database and looking for expert guidance regarding the above mentioned issues.

  • DB2 Log file retrieval during normal operation

    Hi,
    We recently upgraded our databases to DB2 v9.7 FP1 and started noticing entries in the db2diag.log that state a log file is being retrieved (after it was archived). We are not performing a restore, although this only seems to be happening during the time our online backup is running.
    This is one example of an entry in the db2diag.log:

    Hi,
    The online backup by default invokes the option "include logs". And that is why you see the required archived logs being retrieved.

  • Norton Log-in Management is not working after downloading Firefox 4.0

    Since downloading Firefox version 4.0, Norton Log-In Management no longer works as it used to. Prior to the download, and after signing on to Norton, the Log-In Manager would automatically populate any web page which requires me to log in. Also, the Log-In Manager no longer appears in the toolbar.

    Symantec need to update their Firefox add-ons so that they are compatible with Firefox 4. They have indicated that for Norton 360 they plan to release an update to Norton 360 to support Firefox 4 in early May - http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20100720113635EN&ln=en_US
    I do not know about the time scale for updates for other Norton products. Pending the update by Symantec, if you want to use the Norton add-ons you will need to downgrade to Firefox 3.6.
    To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
    You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
    To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.
    For details of how to find your profile folder see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles

  • Redo log file corupted, database not getting open

    I am Oracle Funda-1 student.
    Have install standard Oracle 9I on Windows XP pro service pack 2.
    I made some changes in sample table & given commit. So log buffer will flush to redo log file.
    Then I open current redo log file from OS & selected all junk characters [select all] & deleted same. Save the file. Causing redo file size 0KB.
    Then made more changes to table & issue commit. no errors ! every thing working file.
    Even chked V$log & V$logfile.
    Again I open current redo log file from OS & selected all junk characters [ select all ] & deleted same. Save the file. Causing redo file size 0KB.
    Then issue manual log switch. Alter system switch logfile
    I got disconnected from database & database was close.
    When I reconnected & try to open database in normal mode. Gave error saying redolog_1.log is corrupted & needed for recovery.
    Now not even allowing me clear redo group 1. with alter database clear logfile group 1. as database is not coming to open stage.
    just able to mount the database. with error rdolog_1 corrupted.
    Wasn't oracle suppose to be halted when very 1st time I corrupted redo log file.
    Why it disconnected me & got close.
    When then one use alter database clear logfile group 1.

    I may try this ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS;
    As no backup & not multiplex.
    Still looking for explanation why database got close down instead of getting halt.
    I have found one more status in V$log, which is not given in Oracle university book or online document.
    INVALIDATED
    Which come as a result when oracle unable to switch to next on line group due to non availability of next group redo log physical file.
    SQL> select group#,members,status from V$log;
    GROUP# MEMBERS STATUS
    1 1 INVALIDATED
    2 1 INACTIVE
    4 1 UNUSED
    As matter of fact, it's only portion of a big
    document which happen to cover what you are testing
    in detail.
    I would invest time to read the document to
    understand how things work instead of getting dirty
    quick answers.

  • Logical file path is not working properly with different DTP's

    Hi all,
    I have a open hub, that push data in to application server(AL11) with file name /tmp/.
    I have two DTP's, one for company code. P001 and other for U001.
    i want to display dynamic file names as P001 when DTP for P001 is executed and U001 when  DTP for U001 is executed
    file names as follows  /tmp/P00120110412openhub.csv  and /tmp/U00120110412openhub.csv.
    for this i have writen code in function module Y_FILENAME_EXIT_name. and it is working fine.
    my problem is I can run only one DTP and only one time, for this it is creating the file.  when i am executing the same DTP or other DTP, the DTP is running without errors and  it is not creating the file in AL11.  if I activate the open hub and execute the DTP then it is creating the file.
    every time i have activate the open hub and then i am running the DTP's. please suggest me to avoid this.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Latheep.

    But I don't know what log file is missing, this SQL show me sequence# 0

    How can I discover what log file is missing? Thanks.

  • LMS3.0.1 Log files' size are not purged.

    There is a LMS 3.0.1.
    Every day size of all log files only are increased.
    I have a 12G particion for log files but it's full every 2 weeks.
    In this case I have to stop LMS, delete all log files and start LMS manually every two weeks.
    Also, there is following message:
    CiscoWorks Folder Utilization is 8%Processes DFMCTMStartup, DataPurge are down.
    I tried to start these services several times but it failed all time.
    Hot to make LMS to prevent of increasing of log files over Recommended Size Limit?

    These two processes should be done in normal operation.  Do not try and start them manually.
    To rotate log files periodically, you will need to configure logrot.  Search the Common Services online help for "logrot", and you will get the instructions for configuring it.  Essentially, you will need to run NMSROOT/bin/perl NMSROOT/bin/logrot.pl -c, then walk through the menu prompts to configure the files you want to rotate.

    What does the message mean?
    What to do about it?
    I don't use any LV in my system!!!!!
    Thanks and my apology for the long message
    Rafi

    Hi Rafi,
    On #1 the warnings appear whenever you have an expression that specifies a sequence file because many expressions are not valid until runtime, you can ignore it as long as ALL sequences that expression may evaluate to are included in the Workspace.
    >2) The utility does not include the cfg/TypePalettes where I have a my own file.
    >Is there a reason to it? Do I need to include it manually?
    No it does not include it because it is not needed unless you plan to edit on the deployed sequence (generally not recommended). If you add a custom type to a sequence the sequence file will have a copy of the type. You can include the types palettes manually in the workspace if desired.
    >3) When I included workspace in the utility I get the following errors:
    >What does the message mean?
    The deployment utility thinks you have a VI to deploy, it is trying to load LabVIEW and failing because LabVIEW is not installed.
    >What to do about it? I don't use any LV in my system!!!!!
    Somewhere there is a .vi or .llb in the system. Find the VI(s) and uncheck them. I did find a bug that the deployment utility caches the flag indicating if a VI is present, but it is easily worked around: Save a tsd file, Press the New button and then reload the tsd.

    <?xml version=1.0 encoding=UFT-8?>Always start on the 4th line after BA_LOG_OUTPUT line
         public void readFile(){
              String line = null;
              Pattern p = Pattern.compile( "BA_LOG_OUTPUT" );
              Pattern p1 = Pattern.compile( "[" );
              try{

                                  line = br.readLine();

              }catch( Exception e ){
                   System.err.println( e.getMessage() );
         }In the code above, I can find where I want to read from, but how do I make the code so that it read the rest of the xml save them in stack (which would eventually be passed to SAX parser) and stop when it find the pattern [.
    Find the next pattern in the file (BA_LOG_OUTPUT), read the whole xml which start 4 line after the pattern, save it on the stack, stop reading when it find the pattern [.  and so on.
    It should continue to do the same throughout the file.

    The solution may work but the problem is a bit more complicated than that. The example I gave above is just an example. In the real log file, the tags are never the same, so you may have something that look like this:
    [21/06/07] System DEBUG * BA_LOG_OUTPUT
    System DEBUG Random text  Random text
