DB2 V9.5 migration on cluster

Hello guys,
I've just migrated my DB2 8.2 databases and now I've detected a problem.
When I try to start database in second node cluster, it gives me an error. My cluster is HACMP.
db2set variables are not available... and it doesn't recognize any instance.
Just to refer, that during the migration I've just installed DB2 software in second node and respective licenses.... should I do anything else?
thanks.
regards,
Filipe Vasconcelos

My error is as bellow:
ECPEIR2:db2ir2 13> db2set
DBI1306N  The instance profile is not defined.
Explanation:
The instance is not defined in the target machine registry.
User response:
Specify an existing instance name or create the required instance.
My home directory db2ir2 belongs to the cluster so it's the same of the primary node.
Could you help me?

    <Context docBase="D:\j2sdk_nb\NetBeans3.6\progetti\Pegaso2" path="/pegaso2" reloadable="true">
    <Resource auth="Container" name="jdbc/pegaso61" type="javax.sql.DataSource"/>
    <ResourceParams name="jdbc/pegaso61">
    <parameter>
    <name>factory</name>
    <value>org.apache.commons.dbcp.BasicDataSourceFactory</value>
    </parameter>
    <parameter>
    <name>driverClassName</name>
    <value>COM.ibm.db2.jdbc.app.DB2Driver</value>
    </parameter>
    <parameter>
    <name>url</name>
    <value>jdbc:db2:pegaso61</value>
    </parameter>
    <parameter>
    <name>username</name>
    <value>userxxxx</value>
    </parameter>
    <parameter>
    <name>password</name>
    <value>passxxxx</value>
    </parameter>
    </ResourceParams>
    </Context>
    When running my servlets, i get this error:
    Exception in PoolDB2Connector.getConnection():org.apache.commons.dbcp.SQLNestedException: Cannot create PoolableConnectionFactory, cause: [IBM][CLI Driver] SQL1403N The username and/or password supplied is incorrect. SQLSTATE=08004
    So it means ( I think !!) that the web-application i getting the right driver ( i got a db2 error) but is having problem with username and password.
    I am using getConnection() method ( with no argouments) in my PoolDB2Connecto class (according to the documentation the getConnection(user,password) method is not supported)
    I have a parallel installation of netbeans 3.5.1 (tomcat 4.0.6) with the same parameters (username, password, url...) and is still perfectly working
    Any help will be greatly appreciated,
    Andrea

    OK, I found the problem !
    It is not due to any configuration issue, but it is due to a BUG in tomcat 5.xx
    I reproduced the problem with mysql db server other than db2 db servver.
    The problem is the presence of the $ sign in the users' s password !!!!
    Probably the xml parser rading server.xml introduce some error finding $ sign.
    The problem is still present in the 5.028 version of tomcat.
    If i modify user's password REMOVING $ sign, everything is OK
    Perhaps $ sign should be escaped (?!?)

  • How to migrate SQL Cluster into Virtual SQL server or Virtual SQL Cluster

    Hello All,
    Currently we will be attempting to migrate a SQL cluster of (2 systems) into are virtual enviroment.  We have been tracking the system requirements with Vmware Consolidation Tool and IO Meter to make sure our hosts have enough resources to accomidate this.  All the metrics coming back looks like it will run just fine virtulized as the cluster was just for failover purposes anyhow and not for performance purproses.  With that said a few questions have come up.
    1.)  What is the best way to virtulize this or to convert it (P2V)
         -  Should we just create a new Virtual Machine and install the same version of SQL and do a manual migration to the new SQL server and leave it as 1 SQL server with HA
         -  Or is there a way to P2V this kind of a setup ? if so what are the steps involved?
    2.)  If a P2V is possible I was under the impression that you will have to use a RAW mapping for the hard disks otherwise the cluster will not work ?  Can anyone speak to this? as I'm pretty sure I have clustered windows server 2008 without RAW mapping before but not with SQL

    Another quick question.  The Vmware SQL Clustering KB article says:
    vSphere MSCS Setup Limitations
    Before you set up MSCS, review the list of functionality that is not supported for this release, and any
    requirements and recommendations that apply to your configuration.
    The following environments and functionality are not supported for MSCS setups with this release of vSphere:
    n Clustering on iSCSI, FCoE, and NFS disks.
    n Mixed environments, such as configurations where one cluster node is running a different version of ESX/
    ESXi than another cluster node.
    n Use of MSCS in conjunction with VMware Fault Tolerance.
    n Migration with VMotion of clustered virtual machines.
    n N-Port ID Virtualization (NPIV)
    n With native multipathing (NMP), clustering is not supported when the path policy is set to round robin.
    n You must use hardware version 7 with ESX/ESXi 4.0.
    Can you not do clustering if your shared storage is iSCSI ? or can you not do RAW mapping with it to create the cluster ?

  • Queries regarding DB2 to Oracle migration

    Hi,
    I am new to working on Oracle Migration Workbench and DB2. We are evaluating Oracle Migration Workbench (OMWB )for migrating our client's database which is on DB2 Version 5 Release 2 to Oracle. Request clarifications on below listed questions:
    1/ Is OMWB capable of migrating database which is on DB2 Version 5 Release 2 to Oracle?
    2/ When I connected to the AS/400 system using Capture Wizard, the system just stays on the Source Database Window with the message "Capturing Source Database..." for an unusually long time. Is there anyway to figureout if the process is going on fine or if there is an issue?
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Balu

    To answer you first question, we don't support that version. You will need to seek an alternative tool, like for example SQL Ways from Ispirer

  • Define BINARY DATA column (DB2 to Oracle migration)

    Have a table where a column is defined as 'FOR BIT DATA'. This specifies that the contents of the column are to be treated as bit (binary) data. During data exchange with other systems, code page conversions are not performed. Comparisons are done in binary, irrespective of the database collating sequence.
    During conversion to Oracle using Oracle Migration Workbench, this table is converted irrespective of this definition. Please see below for details:
    DB2 table definition:
    CREATE TABLE ADMIN.XENCY (
              ID INTEGER NOT NULL ,
              XENCYSYMBOL CHAR(2) FOR BIT DATA NOT NULL ,
              IN TS_XENCY ;
    Oracle table definition as generated by OMWB:
    CREATE TABLE ADMIN.XENCY
    ( ID NUMBER(10,0) NOT NULL ENABLE,
    XENCYSYMBOL CHAR(2) NOT NULL ENABLE,
    ) PCTFREE 10 PCTUSED 40 INITRANS 1 MAXTRANS 255 NOCOMPRESS LOGGING
    STORAGE(INITIAL 65536 NEXT 1048576 MINEXTENTS 1 MAXEXTENTS 2147483645
    PCTINCREASE 0 FREELISTS 1 FREELIST GROUPS 1 BUFFER_POOL DEFAULT)
    TABLESPACE TS_XENCY;
    During data loading from DB2 to Oracle it fails for this table with the following error:
    Type: Error
    Time: 14-08-2006 18:21:02
    Phase: Migrating
    Message: Unable to migrate data from source table ADMIN.XENCY to destination table ADMIN.XENCY : ADMIN.XENCY; ORA-12899: value too large for column "ADMIN"."XENCY"."XENCYSYMBOL" (actual: 4, maximum: 2)
    For Oracle the length of the data in this column is 4; however for DB2 it is 2 only as shown below:
    $ db2 "select max(length(Xencysymbol)) from admin.Xency with ur"
    1
    2
    1 record(s) selected.
    $
    The distinct contents of this table is as follows:
    $ db2 "select distinct Xencysymbol from admin.Xency with ur"
    XENCYSYMBOL
    x'0024'
    x'2020'
    2 record(s) selected.
    $
    How do I define a column as containing binary data in Oracle?
    Thanks in advance.

    The MWB DB2 LUW plug-in incorrectly translates CHAR FOR BIT. Doesn't particularly pay attention to any of the CHAR modifiers. It will just see that column as a CHAR. Obviously, this is a defect.
    Binary data of limited length is stored in RAW type columns in Oracle DB.
    You have two problems (in addition to issuing an ALTER COLUMN to fix the type delcaration or dropping, tweaking the table creation script and reloading. )
    1. The data extraction scripts utilized for that table have not properly encoded the data for transport between DB systems. If there are endian differences between he source and target platform there may be additional problems. Nominally, you can export the binary data in hex format.
    2. The SQL*Loader file needs to be adjusted. (if you dump in hex format, so the data in the file is characters of a hex value )
    XENCYSYMBOL CHAR : hextoraw( : XENCYSYMBOL)
    Loader will convert those hex characters back into RAW as it loads.
    [ The  built in data pump will not work obviously because the system thinks it is a CHAR. So offline data transfer is your only option.  ]

  • Migration of cluster

    One of our customer will soon be migrating to one of their more important clusters to new hardware. In the past we have used log shipping to make this transition as fast and as smooth as possible, but
    I wanted to ask experts if anyone can suggest if there is a better method using more current technology.
    One option they are willing to consider is adding the new servers to the existing cluster, however there will be new storage so I do not see that being too beneficial. Also, the primary database on
    this server is configured for Always On.
    Thanks in advance for any thoughts you might have on this.

    Hello,
    I think the best way (smooth) to migrate in this scenario is using log shipping. It can coexist with AlwaysOn Availability
    Groups perfectly.
    Hope this helps.

  • Migrate Sun Cluster (+RACdisks to new hardware running Sun Cluster ( + RAC)

    Hello,
    We have old hardware (v490s) running Sun Cluster 3.2 + Oracle RAC 10.2.0.4.0 connected to SAN. We need to move to T4. Oracle advised against including new hardware into existing cluster, so we are planning on building a new cluster with T4's, same software (Solaris 10, Sun Cluster 3.2, RAC 10.2.0.4.0).
    When ready, we plan to shut down existing cluster, zone new cluster to existing disks and bring up everything on new hardware (simply stated).
    Will it work?
    Any gotchas - like need to clear disk ids or Sun Cluster panicking? RAC panicking? Any reference docs out there?
    Thanks
    user12961096

    Do we absolutely need that in our new setup or could we forgo that additional layer? Would Sun Cluster give us anything that the OS + RAC doesn't give us?Yes, Oracle Solaris Cluster does make things a lot easier. It looks after your device space and gives you consistent DID devices for CRS/RAC. It gives you the choice to use sQFS, raw metasets, or ASM. It has clprivnet which is a lot easier and performs better than an IPMP solution. The node failure detection time is <= 10 seconds which is quicker than CRS on it's own and it uses SCSI fencing instead of a STONITH approach. Finally, you have all the off the shelf agents that Solaris Cluster offers.
    However, if you are only doing RAC and you just want ASM and you don't need the last few seconds of failure detection that OSC gives you and you think STONITH is good enough for your fencing purposes, then CRS on its own is perfect. There are many, many deployments both with and without OSC, it's not a simple yes/no answer.
    Having worked for the Solaris Cluster group, I'm still slightly bias to including it rather than going without. Others have the alternate view! :-)
    Hope that helps,
    Tim

  • Unknown error (0x1008) when migrating to cluster shared volume.

    Hi All,
    Currently have 4 HV hosts with FC IBM SAN. Each host is Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 6.1.76.01, System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager 3.0.6062. The SAN has been broken up into 20 LUN's, each LUN has been formatted NTFS and hosts the single VHD file for each
    of the 20 VM's.
    We have provisioned a 3TB CSV to use as a sort of staging area and are attempting to migrate each VM to this in order to consolidate and recreate the individual LUN's into another CSV.
    When attempting to perform a live storage migration we receive the following error almost instantly.
    Error (12711)
    VMM cannot complete the WMI operation on the server (DGHVS02.example.com.au.local) because of an error: [MSCluster_Resource.Name="DTHV_EXAMPLEVM03_8abc6468-ae4a-41db-bd67-d787b81a6772"]
    Unknown error (0x1008)
    Recommended Action
    Resolve the issue and then try the operation again.
    There is nothing in the event logs on either server (VMM or HV host).
    We have also attempted to start a debug trace but the VMM event providers are missing.
    Any help would be much appreciated.

    This has been solved.
    [MSCluster_Resource.Name="DTHV_EXAMPLEVM03_8abc6468-ae4a-41db-bd67-d787b81a6772"]
    This is resource is added by DoubleTake to each VM which manages live replication to a DR site. Once replication was stopped for this VM storage migration worked.
    Hope this helps someone else.......

  • Server 2012 cluster - virtual machine live migration does not work

    Hi,
    We have a hyper-v cluster with two nodes running Windows Server 2012. All the configurations are identical.
    When I try to make a Live migration from one node to the other I get an error message saying:
    Live migration of 'Virtual Machine XXXXXX' failed.
    I get no other error messages, not even in event viewer. This same happens with all of our virtual machines.
    A normal Quick migration works just fine for all of the virtual machines, so network configuration should not be an issue.
    The above error message does not provide much information.

    Hi,
    Please check whether your configuration meet live migration requirement:
    Two (or more) servers running Hyper-V that:
    Support hardware virtualization.
    Yes they support virtualization.
    Are using processors from the same manufacturer (for example, all AMD or all Intel).
    Both Servers are identical and brand new Fujitsu-Siemens RX300S7 with the same kind of processor (Xeon E5-2620).
    Belong to either the same Active Directory domain, or to domains that trust each other.
    Both nodes are in the same domain.
    Virtual machines must be configured to use virtual hard disks or virtual Fibre Channel disks (no physical disks).
    All of the vitual machines have virtual hard disks.
    Use of a private network is recommended for live migration network traffic.
    Have tried this, but does not help.
    Requirements for live migration in a cluster:
    Windows Failover Clustering is enabled and configured.
    Yes
    Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) storage in the cluster is enabled.
    Yes
    Requirements for live migration using shared storage:
    All files that comprise a virtual machine (for example, virtual hard disks, snapshots, and configuration) are stored on an SMB share. They are all on the same CSV
    Permissions on the SMB share have been configured to grant access to the computer accounts of all servers running Hyper-V.
    Requirements for live migration with no shared infrastructure:
    No extra requirements exist.
    Also please refer to this article to check whether you have finished all preparation works for live migration:

  • Hyper-V Failover Cluster Migration

    We currently have two Dell VRTX boxes, one in production, and one not (yet).  The new one is running Server 2012 R2 and the production system is running Server 2012.  I have read all of the documentation on migrating the cluster to the new servers,
    but what I want to do is a little different.  I want to upgrade the existing blade servers to R2.  I'm not actually worried about migrating the VM's themselves.  Does anyone know if it is possible to move the cluster roles to the new server,
    upgrade the existing servers to R2, then move the roles back, and start up the VM's again.  The VM storage wouldn't change at all, and we would obviously be down while we are upgrading the current servers to R2.  The goal is to avoid moving the terrabytes
    of data to a temporary location, just to move it back.  It would take longer to transfer the data than install the new OS.
    Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.  Thank you.

    Hi RTat10,
    You can migrate your 2012 cluster vms to 2012r2 cluster, then upgrade your current 2012 node, then add this nodes back to 2012r2 cluster, last evict the new 2012r2
    nodes. You can refer the following KB to performing the migrate.

  • OS Migration from Windows 2003 cluster  to Windows 2008 R2 MSCS

    We want to go for windows 2008 R2 server ( 64-Bit)  MSCS by migrating from windows 2003 Cluster ( 32- Bit) . We are running on ECC 6.0 and oracle 10.2.0.2 DB.
    Is it possible ?
    Is it traditional System copy if so how to migrate the cluster ?
    Regards

    > 2. If the oracle version is 10.2.0.2 then does it will support Windows 2008 R2.
    You need at least 10.2.0.4 (you need to install that version with a separate DVD, you can't install with the normal Oracle DVD (10.2.0.1). See
    Note 1303262 - Oracle on Windows Server 2008
    Be aware of the fact that the normal standard support for 10.2.x is ending at end of july (you'll have to pay an extra maintenance fee if you continue to run that version) - see
    Note 1110995 - Extended maintenance for Oracle Version 10.2
    So if you now do a system copy to new hardware with a new os anyway, I would upgrade to 11.2.
