DB2 V9 and Universal Tablespaces

Hello
and again a question concerning DB2 V9. The new feature universal tablespace (UTS) enables growth in a partition-like manner without the need to partition the TS by key.
Now my first question : has anybody already migrated to V9 and afterwards changed some objects ? If so I guess it has to be done by transaction SE14 which implies a so called table conversion (unload - drop - create - reload). Or is it easier to achieve ?
Second : when tablespaces are created under V9 is there an automatism in the dictionary that creates them generally as UTS by growth if not XSAP ? I guess no because the dictionary would have to know which DSSIZE applies.
And third : if someone already has UTS did you experience great values apart of the benefit that you don't have to worry about extremly growing clusters ?
I searched the SAP-Notes , the DBA Guide and Best practice for migrating but did not find anything special for these questions.
Thanks a lot
Martin Ketterer

Hello,
I hope I can provide some info with respect to questions 1) and 2).
The answer depends a little bit on the SAP Release:
With SAP Release <= 7.00 UTS is not generally used, however it is possible to move tables to UTS (partition-by-growth using transaction SE14). The respective functionality was shipped with Support Packages 620/64, 640/22 and 640/700/14. The default behavior is not changed.
With SAP Release >= 7.10 and DB2 v9.1 all tables are created implicitly (which includes the automatic creation of an UTS tablespace). During an upgrade this only affects the newly and converted tables. There is no automatic procedure that transfers tables/tablespaces to UTS.
We plan to provide a White Paper within SDN by the end of 2Q08 that covers all the new SE14/DDIC functions shipped with the latest SPs.
Best Regards,
Bernd Kohler (SAP on System z).

    Hi,
During the PREPARE phase normally it creates a script which you can run for the creation of these Tablespaces, this script can be found in the Upgrade directory(eg:/usr/sap/put/log/DB6TBSXT.CLP - this script will have the command to create the tablespaces).Just run this script,it will create all the tablespaces based on the requirement.

  • Remote and Universal Dock

    Hi guys,
There's been a few discussion already on the remote and universal dock. Is it difficult for Apple to enable the display of the Ipod screen to the TV-out? You can gain a huge amount of functionality on the Ipod if you can actually see where you are on the menu and remotely navigate it. It just seems strange that I need to walk over to change from one play list to the next even after owning the remote. Apple please take note for this suggestion!
    cheers,
    vswtan

Nevermind, a hard reset fixed it!

  • System and sysaux tablespace

    hi,
can anyone tell me whata system and sysaux tablespace contains, and how to manage them.

    The system tablespace
The system tablespace is always available when a database is open (it cannot be taken offline).
The system tablespace stores the data dictionary (or their base tables, respectively).
    The sysaux tablespace
The sysaux tablespace is new with Oracle 10g. It is used to store database components that were stored in the system tablespace in prior releases of the database.
Also, the tablespaces that were needed for RMAN's recovery catalog, for Ultra Search, for Data Mining, for XDP and for OLAP are going to sysaux with 10g.
Additionally, it is the place where automatic workload repository stores its information.
The SYSAUX tablespace was installed as an auxiliary tablespace to the SYSTEM tablespace when you created your database. Some database components that formerly created and used separate tablespaces now occupy the SYSAUX tablespace.
If the SYSAUX tablespace becomes unavailable, core database functionality will remain operational. The database features that use the SYSAUX tablespace could fail, or function with limited capability.

  • Toggle between Rosetta and Universal

I just installed Flip4mac wmv, in the post is suggested that I select Rosetta in the Get info panel that all went well and I was able to watch the wmv file, no problem.
My question is how do I get out of or toggle out of Rosetta back into Universal. I have looked on different sites, I must have missed something, I can't seem to figue out how to do this.
Please excuse my lack on knowledge, this is my second week on a Mac.
    Many thanks.

I went into Quicktime and was able to select Get Info to change to Rosetta, yet there is no option to go back to universal. What I m reading on the posts that suggested that you can toggle between Rosetta and Universal, or am I misreading that.?
My Mac Pro is Intel chipped.

  • Crystal Reports for Enterprise and universe connections

Hi, I have noticed an issue with Crystal Reports for Enterprise that may give many administrators a headache.
If a BOBJ user has access to a sensitive universe (eg HR or Finance data) to run pre-built WebI reports from  (but not create new ones or edit the universe) then they must have been give data-access to that universe's connection object. Security on the universe and folder could prevent them from accessing information from the universe they shouldn't see or editing the reports and creating new ones.
However if the same user is given access to Crystal Reports for Enterprise in order to access other data sources, then the fact that they have data-access to the above universe connection object now creates a security problem.
Crystal for Enterprise allows a user to open a universe connection object as a data-source. If the user opened the connection for the above 'sensitive' universe they could see all the data in the database - avoiding any universe level restrictions in the process.
What is the suggested way around this? There doesn't appear to be granular enough security to prevent users with data access on a connection object also using that object to create new reports in Crystal for Enterprise.
The only way around it I can see is to deny the user access to the sensitive universe output altogether, but this changes the whole business process for the team involved.
    thanks
    Keith

I have a couple of thoughts:
    1.  Create a special reporting user in the database that only has access to a set of views that don't include the sensitive information.  Then create a universe based on those views which uses a connecting that logs in as that special user.  Give the folks who don't have access to the sensitive data access to this connection and universe instead of the universe and connection that include the sensitive data.
    2.  Since you have BO, you should have a support contract.  I would report this as a bug.  However, SAP may tell you that it is "working as designed", in which case you could go to IdeaPlace (https://ideas.sap.com/) and add this as a requested enhancement.

  • How to exclude UNDO and temp tablespace using monitoring template

    hi,
as per MOS note id 816920.1 undo and temp tablespace is excluded from monitoring starting version 11G onwards. It says that thresholds will need to be explicitly set if undo and temp needs to be monitored
we have grid 12C implemented now with monitoring templates which sets thresholds for all tablespaces. does it apply that thresholds to undo and temp too?? we are receiving alerts for undo and temp tablespaces and we wish to disable them. We have undo tablespaces with different names in many databases as per naming conventions for that line of business.
How can i exclude undo and temp tablespaces from monitoring using grid 12C monitoring templates. is there a way through templates where i can set thresholds of permanent tablespaces only???

In EM12c, go to the 'Enterprise' menu, then 'Job', then 'Library'. There should be an out-of-the-box job called "DISABLE TABLESPACE USED (%) ALERTS FOR UNDO AND TEMP TABLESPACES" that you can run against your database targets, and that job will disable database-generated alerts.
If a previous admin has set up EM12c-generated alerts for undo and temp, then yes, a monitoring template will take care of disabling them. Either remove those alerts from the existing monitoring template and apply them to your targets, or create a new monitoring template based on one database's current settings, remove those warning/critical thresholds for your undo and temp tablespaces, and apply it to your targets.

  • Were to find db2 drivers and how to check if it is working

i have to configure a scenario from db2 to xi to rfc
let me know were to find the db2 driver and once done how do i check if i have installed the correct driver. is there any sample program through which i can check if the driver is installed

    Hi Amit,
IF you have already instaled DB2 databse, then you can get the driver, in this location from your DB2 database folder,
    /usr/local/java/db2/lib/db2jdbc.zip
If you need to install DB2, then I would suggest that you try this link,
    http://www.ibm.com/software/data/db2/
    http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/db2/library/techarticle/0203zikopoulos/0203zikopoulos.html
As DB2 is a Database from IBM, a search in the IBM website can also help you if the above links do not help.

  • Link between reports and universes and universe name change

I want to change a universe name.
What is the impact on my WebI reports and DeskI reports ?
Is it risky ? Will the link between reports and universes be saved ?
Does someone know how the link between reports and universes works for WebI reports and DeskI reports ?
    Thanks

    Hello Umberto,
I recommend to post this query to the [WEBI|SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence; and [DESKI|SAP BusinessObjects Desktop Intelligence; forums.
These forums are monitored by qualified technicians and you will get a faster response there.
Also, all Webi and Deski queries remain in one place and thus can be easily searched in one place.

The Universe name is stored within the data context of the report so the report (deski and webi) refer to a Universe.
Changing the name of that Universe has a very bad effect: the reports usually stop working!
In order to change the name, you must manually visit each report and change the Universe associated with EACH QUERY IN EACH REPORT!!  It can be done, but it is time consuming.  And you'll need both Universe names in the CMS until you're done
Deski -> View Data, Definition, Click on the ... beside the Universe
Webi -> Edit Query, Properties, Click on the ... beside the Universe

  • OWM and transportable Tablespace

    Hi,
Is there any restrictions regarding using OWM and transportable Tablespaces??
    Thanks for any hint.
    haitham

    Hi,
OWM does not currently support transportable tablespaces. The reason for this is that only the table metadata and rows are preserved after importing the tablespace. None of the triggers, views or procedures that are created by workspace manager and defined on the table are maintained.
Also, the metadata that is maintained would become out of sync with the imported data and would lead to unexpected results.
Workspace manager currently only supports a full database import/export or a workspace level import/export using the dbms_wm.export and dbms_wm.import procedures. Further documentation on this can be found in the user guide.

    Ben
