DBMS Settings

Hi,
I have installed Oracle and MDM . In MDM Console, after I mount the server, the field "DBMS Settings" is disabled.
Can anyone let me know why it is in disabled mode?

Hi Naga,
I hope you are checking for the DBMS settings at the server level by clicking on the server which is mounted.
If you are at the server level ,check to see on the right hand side whether you see the columns 'DBMS Server' and 'DBMS type' .If your oracle is properly installed you should see the DBMS server name and in type it should display as Oracle.
if these settings are ok then you should see the DBMS settings under MDM server in the menu bar.
Hope it helps
Thanks & Regards
Simona

    plz help

    Hey Akhil,
In the MDM console right click on the SAP MDM SERVER and Mount the MDM Server by specifying either the IP address or the host name of the MDM Server.
After u mount the MDM server if it is in stopped mode then start it.
If u want to mount any repository right click on thatMDM server and say either create repository or unarchive  repository.
If u want to unarchive any repository u must keep the A2A files which are provided along with SAP Business content on the MDM server SAP MDM -->> Server -->> Archives.
Then only u will be able to unarchive the repository and get the structure provided by SAP like for eg. Vendor,Employee,Article,Material etc...
    Hope dis helps u

  • DBMS Settings Dialog

    Hi All,
When opening DBMS settings dialog in Console, in the property column, im not getting datapath, logpath and partitions under DBMS settings , also even if i right click and give expand branch, its not expanding(there is no + sign).
And when i try to create or unarchive a repository im getting an error "SQL Statement failed to execute".
In logs , the error reads as " tablespace A2I_A2I_XCAT_DBS does not exist".
Can anyone please suggest to resolve this.
    Regards,
    Nimal

    Hello Nimal
If the same error you get when connected to another repositories from that  DBMS server you should do next steps:
    1. check you DBMS connection from standart DBMS application
    2. update DBMS configuration in your console
    if previous steps is OK.
    1. unmount your repository
    2. mount it to SAP MDM server
    3. connect to repository
    4. start repair process for it
    5. load

  • Linking DBMS on separate server

I would like to run the MDM server and the DBMS on separate servers. The Console seems to only provide the option to link the MDM server to a DBMS on the same server. How do I configure the repository from the Console or mds.ini to link to a DBMS on a different server?
My platform is AIX and DB2.

Refer to "DBMS Settings" in "MDM 5.5 SP04 - Console Reference Guide.pdf" found here: https://websmp208.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700006291622006E (Needs SAP SMP Credentials).
You can also connect to any DBMS server on any host other than the MDM Server or console host using the same configuration.

  • Error while create or mount a repository in MDM

    Hi,
after installing SAP MDM 5.5 SP06 and SAP MaxDB 7.6.00.35 on the same hardware (Laptop with Windows NT Client) I started MDM Console, mounted the MDM Server and then started the MDM Server (green arrow).
When I try to add a repository (unarchiving an existing or creating a new one) I enter the data (DBMS eerver, User-ID and password) and then I always get the same error message:
"Error Getting DBMS Settings" --> "Error initializing database engine".
Any ideas where the problem is?
    thanks and regards

  • Error - Table not found

    Hi Guys,
    Error - TABLLE NOT FOUND
We are working on discovery server which comes preconfigured from SAP.
I am able to work on the standard repositories like products available on this server for syndication and importing, but when I am trying to create the new repository I am getting the error TABLE NOT FOUND. Getting this error after entering the DBMS Server, Login Details and Repository Name and Port details.
    Thanks,
    MS

    Hi colleagues
    You should check follow:
    - DBMS-user can connect to DBMS from your workstation(where you run SAP MDM Console)
    - DBMS-user has premissions(grants) according to "installation guide".
    - restart SAP MDM Server
    - update DBMS Settings
    - create new repository

  • Problem in mounting the repository

    Hai expertise,
When i try to mount repository or change database settings it is showing some error (The same thing is working previously) :
         1) I have not saved the list of mounted servers SAP MDM Servers.mcs while closing the MDM console (From that time the same problem is occuring)
         2) when i try to change the configuration -> database settings it is showing the following error even though i am giving proper database username and password
<b>Error is like this " DBMS has not been initilialized for use with MDM. Leaev the feild blank to use the default DBMS paths.or use good paths to override the defaults.if the DBMS host has multiple path instances use unique paths to this instance.these paths may change later through DBMS setting options
Data File path and Transaction Log File Path ".
I created 2 folders in my Microsoft SQL Server folder and entered them in these two feilds. Then error pop up windows appear as
    Unable to modify database
MDM repository list schema has not been created
cannot get DBMS settings from server</b>
      3) Same error comes when i try to mount a repository to my MDM server
    How to  resolve the issue????

    Hello Govada,
Lemme know are u specifying the database name to which u need to connect and then specifying the Database password.
Coz I was also having the same problem but after specifying the database name and password it got resolved.

  • Error while loggin and creating new repository

    Hi All,
I have installed SAP MDM on with SQL 2005 on a server. All the services are running, but when im trying to login into an exisitng repository sys is throwing an error "Repository connect fail. Unable to connect to *repository" and when im trying to create a new repository error is " Unable to connect to database server". Can some one provide any lead on this.
    Thanks in advance
    Manish

    Hi Manish,
Apart from what other have mentioned I would like to add a few points. Please also check for following case:
    1) The DBMS user that MDM uses to connect to a DBMS must have access rights equivalent to the
system user. You can use the system account or create a user with equivalent rights. Like in your case the built-in system accounts is  MS SQL u2013 sa (reserved).
2)Make sure that the MDM user SAPService<SID> has the necessary rights for accessing the database client.
    3) Check if you have provided proper DBMS path in DBMS settings.
    4) Check if your SQL server is loaded. If not please start the SQL services.
I hope I am able to solve your problem

  • Error while creating the repository

    Hi MDM Guru's
I have Installed SAP MDM 5.5 SP06 Patch 1 on Solaris with Oracle 10g
Initially I could create the repository also but when I changed the DBMS settings Data Path and Index Path from Blank to some path. I am not able to create repository and in the Server Log I see the following Error.

But even after I set the Data Path and Index Path to blank what it was, I still get the same error. Can someone please guide me on this one?
    Needs to resolve this Urgently.
    Pravin

    Hi Dilmit Chadha,
NO I did not. When I said I changed the DBMS Settings that means. In the SAP MDM COnsole, right click on mounted MDM server, click on DBMS Settings, Input the DBMS Server, username and passowrd  and on the screen I changed the Data Path and Index Path.
As per me Data Path is for creating the data file of Oracle tablespace for the Data part of Repository. and Index Path is for creating the data file of oracle for the Index part of the same Repository.
Following error may also help which I see in the server log at the time when I tried to create the repository.

  • Error while creating duplicate repository

    Hi,
While creating a duplicate repository, i'm encountering the following error:
    "Unable to modify database"
Can anyone plz guide me on the same

    Hi Ketan,
I'm not sure what you mean by setting the DBMS settings to blank... in mds.ini? This used to work in the Console when using SQL Server, but now by default it's disabled (but if you're trying this in the Console, you'd get an error right away on the mount/create/duplicate screen).
I assume the verify/repair found no errors? Have you tried archiving and unarchiving the repository? It's a cheesy way to do a Duplicate operation -- maybe it will help you in the short term while we figure out what's going on (unless you can't unarchive because of the same error).
Are you using the administrator user (I think in Oracle it's called System) or a user that you created yourself? Is it a user that MDS/Console proposed to create for you when you first used this Oracle DBMS? (That would've been a long time ago, since you're upgrading from SP4 -- this user is fine, but one that you may have created yourself may not have all the right permissions.)
Could you please post the version number you're using, so I can find out if there are any known issues? Also, please make sure the version of the Oracle client on the machine that is running MDS is up-to-date with respect to the Oracle server (assuming they are not the same machine).
I will also do further investigation about the error in the log. Thank you for your patience; we will do everything we can to get you up and running as soon as possible!

  • Installing MDME 5.5

    Hi,
I'm just a beginner in MDME 5.5, and i have some problems in the install process. This is the steps that i take:
1 - Install the Oracle Server
3 - Create the database with character set WE8MSWIN1252
2 - Install the Oracle client (in the same server)
3 - Install the MDME Server
4 - Install the MDME Console.
After install and reboot the machine, i open the MDME console, locate and start the server. Then i try to create a repository, or enter the DBMS setting: it display the "select DBMS server" dialog. I select the server, the login (system) and password for the DBMS.
But then it displays the message: " Error initializing database engine" and " Cannot get DBMS settings from server".
In log there is: "ERROR CODE=12514 ||| ORA-12514: TNS:listener could not resolve SERVICE_NAME given in connect descriptor"
There is a listener activate, and configured for port 1521. I know than i'm doing some mistake, but can someone help me? please!
    Thanks in advance!

Here is the extract from the install guide page 6. If you have followed all the steps detailed in here then you should be able to get it working. Thanks!
    Configuring an Oracle DBMS
MDME Server can connect to an Oracle 9.2.x DBMS.
    1. MDME Server supports only the following character set on the Oracle database:.“WE8MSWIN1252”.
    2. Install Oracle and Create a Database
    a. Install the Oracle DBMS software. You may be installing both DBMS and Client portions of Oracle if you plan to host Oracle on the same machine as MDME. If the DBMS will reside on another host machine, the MDME engine will require only the Oracle Client software to be installed. On a fresh install of Oracle on a Windows platform, be sure to reboot the machine so that the MDME service can inherit the Oracle “Path” from the system.
    b. If you have the opportunity to “create a database” during a complete install, avoid the automatic or typical creation and take the steps manually. Set the Character Set to a supported value as detailed in item 1.
    c. If you do not have a database that uses one of the supported character sets, create one.
    3. On the MDME host run the Oracle Network Configurator to identify the DBMS to Oracle clients. In this case the MDME Server is an Oracle client.
    4. Run the Oracle client utility SQLPlus (or SQLPlus worksheet) to determine which character set the MDME engine should use.
    a. After connecting to the DBMS run the following query:
select VALUE from NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS where PARAMETER='NLS_CHARACTERSET'
    b. The result will tell with what character set the database was built. If it is not one of the character sets mentioned in Step 1, then you will have to create a new database with an acceptable character set.
    c. Find the mds.Ini file located in the same directory as the mds.exe (MDME Server) and, using a text editor, add a line similar to the following line in the top section of mds.Ini, just below the “[MDME Server]” line:
    Oracle NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA. WE8MSWIN1252

    Hi,
Please After cliking Mount server if your server is not being displayed,By right clicking mount MDM Derver on your SAP MDM Server, manually in the Mount MDM server Pop up window,  write IP address or your host-name of  machine on which MDM Server is installed then Press ok and check is your MDM server is mounted this time or not, if it get mounted right click on it and follow  as i described earlier.you can check ip address of MDM system by run command prompt and type ipconfig and enter, here your can see your IP address and write this IP address and then your MDM server get mounted. if your MDM server service is then you can see green color sign on your Monted MDM server and then right click on your Mounted MDM server and select DBMS Settings.

  • Database error - MDM server installation

    Hi,
I installed SQL Server and then MDM server. Now SQL server is up, server sign on console is green,  when I try to unarchive repository archive, I got database error: error to initialize database. (I uses "sa" to connect )
What is needed to configure MDM to talk with SQL Server?
    Thanks a lot in advance!
    David

    Hi Subbu,
When i tried to set DBMS settings or unarchive repository, it prompt me <server name>[Sql Server] Initialization. Two entries are needed there:
    Data file path:
    Transactional log file path:
    I set them as following:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data
    then get error:
    "Unable to set current database with database server";
"The MDM repository list schema has not been created"
    I also tried to input as "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data\mdmsp3_Data.mdf" and C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data\mdmsp3_log.ldf"
    still get the same error.
Please put some light on this!
    Thanks!
