Dbus and hal groups, the wiki.

Hey,
I was just reading though the beginners wiki and saw about the dbus and hal groups.
Should I add my user account to them? The wiki said about adding a user to the groups via usermod..
usermod -aG audio,video,floppy,lp,optical,network,storage,wheel,dbus,hal USERNAME
But I installed hal via reading our hal wiki and it says..
For dbus and hal to function properly, local user accounts must be members of the following groups: optical, storage. To achieve this, open a terminal and type the following commands as root:
# gpasswd -a username optical
# gpasswd -a username storage
Which I have done but it doesn't mention about the hal and dbus groups, so is just adding my account to optical and storage sufficient?
Or will adding my account to the hal and dbus groups give me any benefit or cause harm ?

Your user doesn't need to be in the hal and dbus groups.
Edit: I fixed the info in the wiki.

  • DBUS and HAL can't start

    Hi,
Dbus et, consequently HAL, servers can't start.
Dbus says "unable to find UID et GID for user dbus" .
Unfortunatly, i'm not very confortable with dbus server to understand the error myself..

    I reinstall dbus, dbus-core, hal, avahi .
    # sudo /etc/rc.d/hal start
:: Starting D-BUS system messagebus                                                                                            [BUSY] Unknown username "avahi" in message bus configuration file
/bin/touch: initialisation des dates de `/var/run/daemons/dbus': Fonction non implantée
                                                                                                                                   [DONE]
:: Starting Hardware Abstraction Layer                                                                                         [FAIL]
Now, HAL doesn't want to start anymore, and it's really annoying since mouse conf depends on it .

  • VMware Workstation 7.1, dbus and hal

Older thread on the subject: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=230142
I'm running VMware Workstation 7.1 in Xfce 4.8, with dbus running and hal not.
    I get:
    $ vmware
    [ snip ]
process 30387: Attempt to remove filter function 0x7f591ecdb320 user data 0xa2b452, but no such filter has been added
If I either stop dbus (which breaks alot of other things), or start hal along with dbus, it works.
    dbus hal => VMware works
    !dbus !hal => VMware works
dbus !hal => VMware doesn't work (although this is the setup I'd like, dbus without hal).
Any ideas here?  I'd really rather not have to start hal.

  • Dbus and hal: start 'em?

should these two be on my list of daemons to be started, or not?

    fuscia wrote:
Gullible Jones wrote:If you have hal on your daemon list, you don't need dbus; the hal script starts that automatically.
whoa! either way, that's good to know.
here's my list - syslog-ng network netfs crond alsa. can i do without any of those? would putting @ in front of any of them make a difference? am i missing something key?
i appreciate the answers. i try to read about this stuff, but it can be so foreign, at times, i still have no sense of judgment about it.
You can disable daemons with ! like !crond and see if you are losing functionality in everyday usage. Check what each daemon does, crond is for task scheduling, so if u dont have tasks, u can disable it and re-enable it if u want to add tasks sometime in future.
daemons like alsa, crond can boot in background. even my network is background
I would recommend having Arch CD nearby just so you can CD boot and chroot if somehow (unlikely) the system gets screwed,
besides, u would have got better answers if u were more specific on system usage profile,

  • Overhead calculation not happening after using Overhead key and orgin group

overhead calculation not happening after using Overhead key and orgin group.
There was a runtime error earlier related to u201Cdefine credit u201C IMG node under costing sheet component and we have applied SAP note 769946 and that error was gone out of the way
We want to apply/add Overhead to SFG/FG materials.
We are using PP order with PCC(product cost collector) as the cost object , i.e costing by period.(system ECC 6)
But our problem is with material standard cost estimate process.
We have assigned overhead keys to the percentage rates in costing sheet for material standard costing and assigned the origin groups to the credits of costing sheet. But after running the cost estimate overhead is not taking into account for standard cost calculation.
In the define credit entry table key field is valid to date strangly and actually system should allow one than one entry with same valid to date and same sec.Cost element(type-41) for different cost centers.
But if we without using overhead key and origin group, the entire cost in that supporting cost center will come to all materials (SFG/FG) and we can not distinguish between different product materials(SFG /FG).
We have checked all things as mentined below.
Firstly that the correct costing sheet is assigned to the valuation
    variant.
That the costing sheet is entered for the appropriate material type:
Finished and semi finished or material components.
All of the above can be checked and verified via transaction OKKN.
In addition make sure that the base value maintained is present in the
costing, for example the base may include an Origin group, is that
origin group part of the materials being costed?
Similarly if the base is found and values exist how is the overhead
rate of the costing sheet set up, is it valid etc.
And finally do a similar check for the credit.
we doubt this as a programm error...
So, request all experts to have ur feedback..

    Dear,
Check your origin group & material unit of mesaurement is same.
some time in costing sheet origin group is maintain in different unit & for materail it's maitain in other unit of mesaurement.
You can see unit of measure for material in Additional data - unit of measure.
Check BOM component material unit also.
Check same  unit of measure is maintain in KZS2
    I hope above will useful.

  • Do we have any option to see all the WIKIs submitted/published by me?

    Dear Experts,
Do we have any option to see all the WIKIs submitted/published by me (logged in user)? This option is available for Blogs and Articles.
If it is not available, can we give a thought to implement the same?
It would be very helpfull for the authors to findout their Own WIKIs. Else we need to search in SCN to find out even the own WIKIs.
    Thanks,
    Vinod.

If yes, remove it and leave only dbus
No, neither of them were in packages.i686. I even tried adding dbus to that file to see if it would help, but it didn't change the error message.
It seems like archiso is installing some core files before it installs my custom packages, and maybe that is where the problem lies, but I really have no idea.

  • Can't add groups or users to the wiki

I've found a few threads on this, but none of them have presented a solution.
    Setup:
XServe with Leopard 10.5.4 on it.
    Advanced mode.
    Problem:
Under the Server Admin panel, if I add a user or group to have Wiki and Blog permissions, if I click save, the user and or groups do not stay in the list. And on the site they do not have wiki or blog options. The group/user vanished.
If I try to enable wiki and blog options for a group under the "basic" tab in Workgroup Manager, all options are disabled (i.e. - "Enable the following services for this group on: (None)" is disabled.
    The DNS is set appropriately.
The machine is (correctly) set for Open Directory - Stand Alone server.
Here is an interesting addition to the problem.
1.) Through the System Admin panel, if I add a user to the wiki permission list, and click save
2.) Open a broswer over the System Admin panel (without navigating to anywhere else in System Admin) and log in to the local wiki
3.) The "groups" button is enabled, but the "users" button is not.
    4.) Click on "groups"
5.) Now the "users" button is also enabled.
    6.) Go to "Users"
7.) Select "create a blog" and enter my username and password.
8.) Give my blog a name.
9.) Now the blog shows up under the Users list.
10.) Open my blog in the users list.
11.) Create a new blog entry.
12.) Go back to System Admin panel, navigate anywhere else, and then return to the wiki settings for the appropriate site, the user and or groups are gone once again.
13.) Go back to the web broswers and pull up the local wiki.
14.) "groups" will be enabled. "users" will be disabled.
    15.) Click "groups"
    16.) "Users" is now enabled.
    17.) Click on "users"
18 a.) Often a 404 page appears, or a wiki page that is pure text (no html).
18 b.) Refresh the page, and now the normal list of user blogs appears.
19.) Click on the blog I created previously.
20.) Viola! It is completely usable and viewable, but the User will NEVER appear as having permissions under the Web options in Server Admin.

    @ Pope7
    Hi
The machine is (correctly) set for Open Directory - Stand Alone server
If this is truly what is says then whatever you are trying to achieve won't happen. The Server has to be an OD Master and users and groups need to exist in the LDAP node. Wiki, Blog and iCal will not be available as services until you you do this.
    The DNS is set appropriately
The foundation for a successful Open Directory Master offering LDAP and SSO is DNS. Don't confuse an external DNS service with an internal one that the server will require. You don't have to configure DNS on the server itself just as long as it is configured on another server on the same network will do.
    @ simonblackledge
    Hi
Using DM to make a group. Goto the tab for services and everything ..wiki etc.. is ghosted out
What's DM? If you are not seeing an option to enable calendaring in the Users Advanced Tab or similar options for Wiki, Blog etc in the Groups Tab then either you are in the Local node in which case these services won't work or your Server is not configured as an OD Master. Same advice applies to you really.
The admin manual although poor does clearly state what's required:
    http://images.apple.com/server/macosx/docs/iCalService_Admin_v10.5_2ndEd.pdf
You should download this one as well:
    http://images.apple.com/server/macosx/docs/OpenDirectory_Admin_v10.5_2ndEd.pdf
Finally there is a requirement for clients to be bound to the Server for this to be truly effective. Use Directory Utility found in /Applications/Utilites to achieve this.
If I'm telling you something you already know then please accept my apologies.
    Tony

  • My Wikis and Ical on the WEB  give a Server starting up.. message

Wikis (and Ical on the WEB) give a Server starting up... message with the turning wheel. They were working perfect, and yesterday started the problem. I have not changed any of the server settings neither permissions. From Mozilla Firefox on windows throes an Mac OS X server message
500: An internal error occurred trying to process your request. Sorry. Safari gives a Server starting up..
I checked permissions and look ok, root and admin group have read & write access. to
/Volumes/DATA HD/ServiceData/Web/Documents/Collaboration folder and up in the path.
Does anybody know how to solve this?
I tried updating to OS X 10.6.5 but the problem continues.

I am having a similar issue as you marktech, with colaboration folder on a different drive.
My temporary solution is to stop and start web services on the server, and the message goes away and users can log in.  Problem comes back on a server restart.
Swamped here so have not been able to apply troubleshooting techniques.
What I have checked is verifying permissions on collaboration folder.  Seems like I had to re-apply permissions after any significant update.
My final resolution will be to migrate from the ssd hard drive (the extra speed is not any significant impact for us) to a 1TB hard drive and migrate data back over to a single drive in original directory locations.  appologies have not had ample time to research the issues....

  • How do you get the Calendar in My Page on the Wiki to show up on Group Calendar in Wiki

I"m using Snow Leopard Server 10.6.8, and it permits you to setup a personal web calendar and a group calendar on its WIKI.  Since I'm a member of the group, why can't the calendar events I enter in My Page show up on the Group Calendar WIKI page?

    Greetings Stephen,
You may wish to ask this question in the server forum as Calendar Wikis are a function of server, not of the iCal.app: https://discussions.apple.com/community/servers_enterprise_software/mac_os_x_ser ver_v10.6_snow_leopard

And https://blogs.oracle.com/robreynolds/entry/security_in_obiee_11g_part_1 to know more about Security. The default users would be in identity store.
If you want to get the list of WLS users and WLS groups then have a look at : http://mverzijl.wordpress.com/2012/08/23/weblogic-wlst-get-users-and-groups/
Coming to your original questions .. To get the list of AD users and AD groups not Roles two different things, may be you can try
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/2195.active-directory-dsquery-commands.aspx or use some LDAP browser .

  • Enabling the wiki service for a group not working

    Hey all,
I am getting my server up and running and I have the following services: AFP, DNS, and Web. I am currently trying to enable the use of a Wiki but am running into some problems. I have enabled Wiki and blog in the Web Services in Server Admin and I have added the groups I wish to be able to use the Wiki. When I go to Workgroup Manager, I get stuck. In the Accounts tab and the group I am trying to give access to, I attempt to use the pulldown tab to "Enable the following serves for this group on:" I would like to get the pulldown to be set on "Default web site of server17.pretendco.com, but I cannot even use the pulldown. It is grayed over, and I cannot change the settings.
I am using the Administrator account, so I should be able to change that. Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Pat

    Hi
The reason the option is grayed out for your users is because your server is not an OD Master. Wiki, Blog and iCal won't be available unless this happens first.
Page 61 Web Technologies Admin Manual
Wiki will not work without a local Open Directory master. Your server can be connected
to another directory server simultaneously, but for wiki to work, your server must be an
Open Directory master. For more information, see Open Directory Administration.
You can download the relevant manuals from here:
    http://images.apple.com/server/macosx/docs/WebTechnologies_Adminv10.5.pdf
    http://images.apple.com/server/macosx/docs/OpenDirectory_Admin_v10.5_2ndEd.pdf
Other manuals may also be of use:
    http://www.apple.com/server/macosx/resources/
Open Directory requires a tested and configured Internal DNS Service resolving on the forward and reverse lookups. DNS does not need to be running on the server itself just as long as it is running on a server on the same network. Don't confuse internal DNS Services with the external ones you are used to.

  • Is there a way to use Sync to restore the windows and tab groups I had on my previous computer?

I recently set up a new computer. Signing into Sync restored my bookmarks but not my Firefox windows and tab groups. I can get a LIST of "Tabs From Other Devices" to show up, but what I want to do is to restore the session from my previous computer. Is it possible to do this with Sync? I thought that this was supposed to be one of the things it was for.

You can copy the sessionstore.js file in the current Firefox profile folder to an USB stick and copy that file to the profile folder on the other computer.

    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
