Dead N8's Any Official Word From Nokia?

I am one of the many unfortunate N8 owners whose phone has died and or has continually restarted.
Is there any chance of an official word from Nokia as to why this is happening & when suppliers will receive sufficient stock to replace these faulty units?
If it's of any concern to Nokia some of us on contracts are now paying revised premiums to our providers for phones we haven't got or are unable to use.
Come on Nokia man up let us know what's happening.

As far as I know, there is even a section
HERE! Location-based services from Nokia: Maps, Navigation and GPS
There's not much effort needed to find tones of threads for WP and almost none for Symbian.
There are even official video stickers of HERE Maps working on Lumia phones.
So I presume that yes, everybody is discussing HERE services round here. Why not do that for Symbian?
Besides, Nokia has made a commitment to provide lifetime voice-guided nav for Symbian devices. Without updates, the navigation is useless. If Lumia based phones are getting updates, I see no reason for us not getting them. I don't care who owns HERE (which is still Nokia, BTW). I purchased a Nokia phone.
I should definitely claim for it HERE.

  • Official Word from Apple re: anti-virus

What's the official word from Apple regarding anti-virus and its use with FCP?

There are currently no known virii that can affect Mac OS X. None whatsoever.
So when one does eventually turn up, you will have no protection at all because virus detection relies on your AV software being up to date with it's definitions that identify the virus signature.
While it will not be affected, your computer can still act as a virus carrier though, in that you can pass on an infected file from one Windows user to another. Depends on what your points of contact with others are. Limit those and you will increase security.
I send and receive files via FTP, sometimes dealing with people that I do not know. That computer has the free [ClamXav|http://www.clamxav.com> anti-virus on it. It is set to check my Mail and FTP Downloads folders only. The machine is not used for editing even though I have ClamXav limited in what it searches. Most commercial products constantly scan everything, which as already noted will have an effect on performance.

  • Are There Any Official Answers From Apple/Logic Team To All Our Questions?

Are There Any Official Answers From Apple/Logic Team To All Our Questions Here?????
Why is Logic's interface still heavy Graphically? My G5 Dual 2.5 with 5.5 Gig ram is not enough? see how Cubase handels graphics on the same machine or even ProTools??? by the way I am a Logic user for more than 15 years, so I guess Apple knows exactly that their clients are faithfull to their products so why Logic is still outdated in many aspects, if Apple does not have the intension to make Logic the industry STANDARD they can tell us clearly

    Thoughts???
Sure; that if this was once an awesome app that i would either go back to that version or, having been seduced by new features etc., i find that i can't live without them then I would (and have ) dl Reaper (mac, free), try the Sonar7 demo bootcamped (a truly awesome app), find an le version of Cubase (there's no demo and the full version ain't cheap) and try 'em all out on a second machine over a long, slow weekend. They all have strengths and weaknesses. They all have problems for some users. if you can get around on one of them you can quickly gain passable competence on any of them and at the very least you'll learn new things you can do with Logic and, more than likely, learn that Logic is still your favorite. 8 is a major overhaul, it's bound to take a few patches to get it right. Do we want it to be perfect out of the box? Of course. Is that ever gonna' happen? Noooo ... but if it doesn't work, go back to 7, hassle Apple about and wait till the fix it.
    Good luck!

  • Official word from Apple?

Has Apple released an official word on the problems caused by the ipod updater 1-10 and/or itunes 6.0.2?
Does anyone have any links that indicate that they have identified the problem and are working on it asap? Any patch release dates?

  • T43 Vertical Scrolling Problem (not just Firefox)- Any official response from Lenovo

After searching the forum, i have not been able to find any response from Lenovo as to how to correct this problem.
Incidentally, my "occasional" vertical scrolling problem occurs in any browser,  IE7, Firefox3, Opera9 (at least those 3) as well as Windows applications with a vertical scroll bar like Windows Explorer.
This only started to occur very randomly around 6 months ago.  But as of late it is occuring more often.
    The only work-around
    http://blog.jonschneider.com/2008/03/workaround-thinkpad-gets-into-always.html
might indicate that it is a possible hardware problem.
However, I have to say that I rarely use the laptop scrolling buttons and 99.9% of the time, latetly, I use a Logitech laser USB mouse for scrolling purposes.
As another possible work-around (if you are using an external mouse) is to uncheck the enable virtual scrolling in the touchpad properties window.
I certainly hope it is not a hardware problem, as the warranty on my T43 ran out a long time ago.
btw, I am running Windows XP Pro XP3.

  • Warmer screen? Any official link from ?

Having read all the online news, rumors and what-got-you, those are NOT official statement to state that  did adjust the iPhone 3G color temperature to a warmer tone.
Was searching  knowledge base and support sites and I couldn't find anything on the screen looking yellow is normal.
Until a proper KB or whatever official is posted on  sites, can I treat my yellow tinted iPhone 3G screen as a defective product?
Hate sending back the cool phone but I'm uncomfortable with the yellow tint. Didn't have to compare with any other screen. It just looks yellow to me. Tried firmware update to 2.0.2 (5C1) and did restore to default. Still yellow.

Unicode code point U+F8FF is the last character in the Unicode private use area. Its meaning and appearance vary depending on the font in use, but its usage in several fonts make it the most notable code point in the private use area.
    * In most Apple supplied fonts, it represents the Apple logo, or an early version of the command key.
Translation: The OP is SUCH an Apple fanboy he does not realize his little symbol it totally nonstandard and does not travel well.

  • Regarding No Official Word from Apple on Updates

I have tried several channels to appple to get some word on updates. Since the 15 day return period is almost up and I have not got a reponse - I most likely will return this wonderful device. My reasoning - If Apple lives up to its reputation, within 6 months we will have the 2nd Gen iPhone - most likely with all the bells and whistles that it is lacking today and (hopefully!) larger storage capacity.
I would gladly keep the phone IF Apple would comment one way or another on whether or not future Updates will add additional functionality or just be fixes...
Any thoughts before I return? Any and all comments appreciated!

That's a [insert preferred word for ridiculous] way to buy stuff.
If you like it, keep it.
If you don't like it, return it.
With the exception of living creatures, it's not a good idea to buy and keep something based on what it might become over time. Buy and keep it only if you like it now!
the iPhone is pretty cool, no? Worth the price of admission for me, as is. The gravy: Apple will add features over time through software updates (not just bug fixes). However, don't keep it because of likely future updates, keep it only if you like it now!

  • Why doesn't iphone offer most basic features that I can enjoy on any simple device from Nokia or Samsung?

    For example:
1 - Sending photos, videos, recordings over bluetooth to any other device. Is it so difficult?
    2 - Forwarding sms messages
3 - inserting a contact number in an sms
4 - Assigning any sound file to a contact
these are the first ones that spring to my mind, I'm pretty sure there are more of such lacks.I've been using an iphone 4 for like 5 months already, and i really like this phone, but got to admit that it lacks many things and sometimes it drives me crazy. Why have I paid 1800 turkish liras (about 900 euros), then?

Difficult? No. But it's never been a feature of the iPhone. Probably in an attempt to reduce or at least contain music piracy.
    2 - Forwarding sms messages
3 - inserting a contact number in an sms
    These are easily done.
4 - Assigning any sound file to a contact
Once you convert the audio file you want to assign to a contact to a ringtone, this is simple. It should take no more than about 2 minutes to do this once you know how. There are a number of free apps that can do this directly on the phone, or you can do it on your computer and sync the ringtones back to the phone with ease.

  • How to get the most from Nokia Support Discussions

This forum is a community of users of Nokia products and services from around the world who share their experiences and help people to solve problems. I've been using this forum for a couple of years now, I originally joined because I work in telecomms and I was looking for answers to a few issues that I was experiencing, and like many of the regular members, I've been coming here ever since. There is a really good crowd here, and it is often fun to read the boards as well as informative.
If you have a problem, if nobody else can help, and if you can find us (it's not hard, Discussions all over Google whenever you search for something Nokia-related), then maybe you can hire: The D Team!
The communityThis is a peer-to-peer community, you are usually dealing with people who have an interest in mobile technology, albeit with a particular preference to Nokia, who can help on a wide range of questions - the advantage that we have as a community is that many users have experience of a range of devices and accessories, so you can often get help here about issues concerning Nokia products being used with products from other companies that even Nokia itself cannot offer. There has also recently been a presence of Nokia staff (their usernames are shown in green) who are also helping users on the forum in their own time.
Unlike many forums that we all use regularly, this is an official forum owned and run by Nokia, not the creation of amateur enthusiasts like you and I, so they are much more strict about behaviour than other forums, and the moderators will remove anything that is offensive or disrespectful to other users, or which may cause offence to users of a sensitive nature. Basically, you should treat other users the way you could treat another member of the public in a public place - too many people take advantage of the anonymity offered by the internet to behave in a way that they would not normally do.
This forum is not a source of official support from Nokia, for that you have to call or e-mail from the "Contact us" link. Most of us are just normal consumers like you, therefore we don't have information on when products, services, software updates etc. will be available so it's futile to ask. Nokia doesn't even publish this information in most cases, so even the Nokia employee members probably wouldn't be able to answer these sorts of questions even if they do have the information.
Tips for getting your question answered:
     (1) Search firstSomebody else may already have posted the same question, so you can save yourself time by checking first if the answer you need is already published on the forum.
    (2) Choose the right boardPeople are online at different times, we may be taking a break from our work, relaxing at home after a meal, flicking back to the forum whilst doing other surfing on the 'net or anything else, and people will look in boards where they have a specific personal interest so, for example, if you have a problem playing a video on your N96 use the Imaging and videos board in the Ovi and Mobile Media section or if you have a problem installing themes or applications on your 6220 Classic, use the Phone Applications under Software. Posting these questions on the Nseries and S60 smartphones board might see them get lost amongst lots of technical questions about the phone itself, you have a better chance of getting an answer by choosing the right place to ask it.
    (3) Write a clear titleSpeaking for myself, I don't have time to read everything on the boards, so I look for topics that I might be able to answer; therefore don't just put the subject as a phone model number or the name of an application or users might just pass over your post without opening it to read. For example, a title like "Can't get GPS signal in 5800" is much more likely to catch the attention of an experienced GPS user or a 5800 user and get the question answered quicker.
    (4) Explain your problem clearlyPhones and the software that we use in them and with them grow ever more complex, just saying "I can't send an SMS" or "Mr camera isn't working" does not give any information with which an experienced user can help you to troubleshoot. Whatever the case, explain exactly what you are trying to achieve, what you tried, and describe what happened, for example: did an application shut itelf down? Did the phone freeze? Was there an error message, and if so what was it? All of this will help other users to identify what is going wrong for you and the less questions they have to ask you back, the quicker they might help you.
Tips for making the right impression:
     (5) Use normal textWRITING ENTIRELY IN CAPITALS does not convey a sense of urgency, in internet communities it is perceived as shouting or other generally agressive behaviour, so it will not win the hearts and minds of the people whose help you need. Also, using large characters or bright colours may look nice to you, but too much text written in very large, bold or colourful letters can simply fill the screen unnecessarily and is not always any easier to read, so it can also put people off from helping you. Use these features when you need to highlight a particular point, not all of the time.  (6) Resize imagesIf you are embedding a picture in your post, resize it so that it fits into the frame of the normal page. A full screenshot of your PC or a megapixel+ picture will stretch the borders of the page so far that people have to scroll left and right repeatedly to read not only your post, but the entire page of the thread that it is on, and just as above, if you make it difficult for others to read the thread, they could miss some information or just pass over it altogether. If you want to share a large image, you can also add it as an attachment to the post so that people can view it when they choose without impacting on the display of the page for everybody.
    (7) Pleeeeaaaaazzzzeeee don't do thisFar from making most users take pity on you and try to help you, this kind of thing can be just as bad as all capitals, especially is you make a word so long that it affects the display of the page like inserting large images does. You are also better off not using SMS shorthand and local slang in your posts, because users of the boards are from all over the world and might be speaking English as a second, third, etc. language, so the person who knows the exact solution to your question might not understand the way you have asked it.

You mention it is a DV/HDV Film - how did you edit it? Did you edit both formats on the same timeline in Final Cut? (What were the settings in Final Cut for the timeline?)
If you are using HDV in a timeline due to the length of time to conform the output, you may be better off exporting the entire thing for testing (small enough for HDV, though I often use AIC or 422 nowadays).
What settings are you using in Compressor? I know you mentioned many combinations, but did you use any frame controls? What was the rate? Did you use CBR/VBR?
One thing to try to get things started. Use 8 CBR and in the frame controls set them to to "Better" for all of them. Will take a bit longer using the filters but should give you an idea where you are at. (Also take a look at the self contained movie to see if there are any artifacts/picels there).
How are you watching the DVD - computer screen or burning to a DVD?

  • Any official Apple response about defective MM?

So many complains about the defective wireless MM, and not even one single official word from Apple... Am I right, or have I missed something? Frustrating! Apple should at least have acknowledged the existence of such a problem even if they do not seem to have the finest idea what to do about it.
From what I read, there is no fix either. All known 'fixes' are premature. I hate the idea of switching MM on/off on a constant basis... I am not willing to change every half an hour or so the location of the battery... I have no sensitive fingers to know exactly where to touch the notty mouse...
In short, wireless MM is not an Apple product like those I used to be proud at, and the fact that Apple apparently does not care drives me nuts! Naively, as a loyal Mac lover for years, I do expect more from my Apple.

No answer is also an answer...

  • PR 1.2 any news from Nokia?

Just found my phone laying in the shelf for a while. Recalled how excellent was the idea behind the phone, but how awful was user experience (that I finally switched to iPhone).
Recalled that Nokia promised a "legion" of updates.  Are there any news from Nokia on this?

Hey lucky N950 owner!     How about you post a nice big juicy list of all the cool new things you've noticed, so that us humble (haha) N9 owners can see what we're looking forward to!
    Thanks!
