Deal with http forms from java

hi everyone...
im trying to interact with a webpage that have a FORM in it....
the form is a log in form...
i want to supply the username and password through the java desktop application and get response from the form back to my java application.
the form uses POST.
is that doable in java ?
thanks in advance

It is possible. But rather than interacting with the Form page itself, you want to send a POST request to the page the form submits to. You should be able to look at the HTML to find what the target URL is, and what parameters need to be sent.
Once you know the page, and the parameter names/values, you use an HttpURLConnection to send the POST request.
Note that in some sites, you have to first send a request to the log in form, parse the response for a session key/timestamp, and respond with that key as well as the username and password.

  • How to deal with validation errors from DAO layer.

    I have been pondering on how to deal with validation errors from DAO layer.
    Lets say you have a DAO that can save a car object. A car has a year, make, model, vin and so on. During the save operation of this DAO, it validates the car attributes to see if they pass some business rules. If it does not it throws some validation exception that contains all the validation errors. These validation errors know nothing about jsf or my components it just knows what attributes on the object are invalid and why.
    If I just want to show those errors at the top of the page that would be no problem I could just create some FacesMessage objects and add them to the FacesContext messages. But if the DAO layer is telling me that the make attribute is invalid it would be nice to map it to the make field on the screen. I am wondering if any of you have tackled this problem or have some ideas on how to tackle it?
    Brian

    Let it throw an exception with a self explaining message, then catch it and embed that message in a FacesMessage.
    Or let it throw more specific exception types (InvalidCarMakeException extends CarDAOException and so on) and let JSF handle it with own FacesMessage message.

  • Strategies for dealing with large forms

    I've created a dynamic form that is about 30 pages long. Although performance in reader is OK, when editing, every change takes about 10 seconds to be digested by Designer. I've tried editing parts and then copying them across, but formatting information seems to be lost when pasting.
    What are the practical limits to how long a form can be, and are there any suggestions for how to deal with longer forms?
    Many thanks
    Alex

    Performance may be okay in Reader 8, but a 30-page dynamic form will probably by unusable in Reader 7. I have done work with very large forms before, and I have maintained each page in a separate XDP and then brought them together once all the kinks are worked out. I don't know why you would be losing formatting information.
    There is a technique that I have used where you use dynamic subforms to show only one page of the form at a time. That approach allows a very large form to be used in version 7 with acceptable response time. However, it's a very complex approach, and I have come to think that it's too complex for comfort. The more complex your approach is the more likely it is to fail in a future version of Reader.

  • Problems with running applet from Java Tutorial

    Hello
    I'd like to compile applet from Lesson Applets, trail: Deployment, title of lesson: A Simple Network Client Applet. But at the beginning of the source code is written that it will work only with: JavaSE 5 version.
    * SwingWorker can be downloaded at:
    * https://swingworker.dev.java.net/
    * SwingWorker must be downloaded for JavaSE 5, but will be included
    * in JavaSE 6.
    Well, does anyone know about applet doing the same thing which would work in older versions of JDK?. Do I necessarily have to install JavaSE6?. I have J2EE 1.4SDK and I run into errors compiling this example.

    I've got another applet which was written for version 1.1 of Java. It compiles but when I run it, instead of letters of quote I get rectangles, positioned one next to the other. So I can't read the quote. What's wrong with this applet?. Here's the code of it:

  • Dealing with null values from a database (easy?)

    I'm sure this should be a simple question :
    I'm creating a dynamic dropdown of my companies products that once a product is selected draws values (links) from a database and displays them (links to User guides, FAQs etc).
    My problem is dealing with blank entries in the database - i.e. if a product doesn't have a User guide I've left the database blank.
    I'd like to show 'none' or 'not available' if the entry is blank rather than the 'null' I currently get.
    I'm sure it should be a straightforward if .... else .... but I'm struggling and would appreciate any help,
    Many thanks,

  • PDFMaker missing files issue with PDF Forms from Office 2007

    Hi,
    I have Adobe PDF 8.0 Pro installed  (full installation) and I upgraded office from 2003 to 2007 AND Windows from 2000 to XP Pro.
    I used to be able to create PDF Forms from an Excel document when using Office 2003.
    Now, when I choose to create a new form starting with an electronic document [from an Excel 2003 document (.xls)], I get this error message:
    "PDFMaker files are missing, would you like to repair?" (please image attached)
    I did the repair. Did not worked.
    I made sure the add-in in office was enabled. Did not worked.
    I un-installed Adobe 8.0 Pro and Adobe Reader 9.0 and re-installed only Adobe 8.0 Pro , thinking there was a problem there. Did not work.
    I googled for more answers, did not find anything else.
    I am able to "print as Adobe PDF", I can create normal PDF documents, but not the Forms.
    I used that option all the time for work. Can someone help me please?!!
    Thanks!
    Gwen

    Bill, it worked!!
    I updated to 8.1.6 and now I can use an electronic document to create a form.
    Thank you!
    I have another question: in the past, to enable Acrobat READER users to fill out a form and save it on their computer, all I had to do is "Enable Usage Rights in Adobe Reader" in the "advanced" menu of Acrobat Pro.
    I did just that but my colleagues who have Adobe Reader 9 cannot fill the form. It appears as a scanned PDF document to them.
    Any idea why?!

  • How to deal with xsd:dateTime from webservice in ADF? (Frank can you help?)

    I have a webservice that returns a date in the yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSSZ format (as far as i know the default Calendar type format) specified by an xsd:dateTime. When i generate a webservice datacontrol on the service i get an entry like <Attribute Name="testDate" IsUpdateable="0" Type="java.util.Date" /> in the datacontrol xml file generated for the service (should that not be a java.util.Calendar type?). When i try to output the value on a jsf page it results in the following error:
    oracle.jbo.domain.DataCreationException: JBO-25009: Can not create object of type java.util.Date with value 1994-02-01T00:00:00.000+01:00
    As far as i understand adf tries to create a java.util.Date object from the webservice output 'string' which fails. The webservice is a plsql webservice generated with jdeveloper. If i change the type in the datacontrol xml file from java.util.Date to java.lang.String it prints out the entire date string but i would like to keep it a date type to be able to format the output to the dd-MM-yyyy pattern.
    Any help or suggestions.....?

    Andre,
    sorry, for not replying earlier - missed this post obviously. I don't know whether or not the behavior you see is correct or a bug - need to investigate this first (or find somebody to invest).
    However, as a work around for now you can:
    Option 1: bind the UI component to a managed bean that then accesses the binding layer to access the Web Service Data Control. This way you can work with Strings and just create a java.util.Date object for the component using the SimpleDate formatter
    Option 2: Use a Web Service proxy and a JavaBean DataControl to access the proxy. This allows pre-processing of the Web Service response, e.g. handling the Date
    Note that this is just for possible work around until I find the time to look at this. However, if this is a blocking issue for a production application then I suggest to contact customer support for immediate help

  • Strange problem with procedure calling from Java!!!

    I am using Oracle 8.1.7 Database, Oracle 8i Application server and WInNT platform.
    I am facing a strange problem while inserting a String from Java to Oracle database through Procedure. When i am passing the String containing single quotes(e.g "test' and ' and ' end") and without including any escape charactes for the single quotes I am passing the String by the setString() method then the procedure is inserting the single quotes without any problem.
    Of course when I am independently executing the procedure thru backend and passing the same String containing single quotes then the error message comes as " quoted string not properly terminated" which is justified,
    I have even printed the String in a file through sql on the runtime of the procedure when it is called by Java and then also the String contatins single quotes that is passed through java without any escape characters. This means that procedure is inserting the String into the column without any hassles!!!!!
    Can anyone tell me what may be the reason for the peculiar behaviour of Database?
    Thanks

    No actually in the documentation of oracle database 10g plsql user guide, oracle explains the concept of declaring nested plsql subprograms he gave the example but in the main block he gave NULL, without calling any procedure.Can you provide a link to where in the Oracle documentation you saw this example?
    in order to know which procedure is getting first i added a dbms statement in both the functions and called the function from the main block.
    the original example was
    DECLARE
    PROCEDURE proc1(number1 NUMBER); -- forward declaration
    PROCEDURE proc2(number2 NUMBER) IS
    BEGIN
    proc1(number2); -- calls proc1
    END;
    PROCEDURE proc1(number1 NUMBER) IS
    BEGIN
    proc2 (number1); -- calls proc2
    END;
    BEGIN
    NULL;
    END;
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The original example is equivalent to:
    BEGIN
       NULL;
    END;That is, the main block never calls anything. Either you are misinterpreting the Oracle documentation, or if the example came from a non-Oracle source as I suspect, the author of that example has a deeply flawed understanding of how programming works.

  • Making https: connection from java code loaded into Oracle 8i database

    A bit of a blast from the past, really, as 8i provides a JVM at 1.2.2.
    I need to provide an PL/SQL function which accesses a RESTful web service requiring https connection. Got the call working under 1.2 locally without much trouble using:
    static {
            System.setProperty("java.protocol.handler.pkgs",
                    "com.sun.net.ssl.internal.www.protocol");
            Security.addProvider(new com.sun.net.ssl.internal.ssl.Provider());
        }The trick is to get the Oracle database to run the code internally. What libraries do I need where? I get an extremely unhelpful NoClassDefFoundError, without mention of the offending class.
    By doing loadjava with jcert.jar,. jnet.jar and jsse.jar (the libraries I'm using with the test program) I can get loadjava to accept and allegedly resolve the class.

I find it astonishing that any implementation would be that stupid.Seriously. The strange thing is that before I got to the NoClassDefFound I had a Initialization error (until I added a security rule for setting the Provider) and for that I got a full stack trace (in an obscure trace file, granted).

  • Problems with data controls from java classes in JSF pages.

    Hi! We have a problem in our Application that we are developing with JSF pages using Data Controls generated from facades java classes. When we running a page in debug mode and the page are loading, if we insert a breakpoint in the first line of method referenced in the data control, the execution enter two times in the method, and this is a problem for us. How to solve this?
    We are using JDeveloper 11.1.1.2 with ADF faces.

    You might need to play around with the refresh property of the action binding.

  • Problem with calling Webservice from Java Webdynpro

    Hi,
    I have a scenario where I need to call a Webservice through my Webdynpro application. I need to pass few parameters(of type string) and the Webservice is suppose to retrun a few records based on the input values.
    When I run the webservice directly using the browser, the output is in XML format.
    When I create a model for the webservice in webdynpro, the return value is a Node element of type java.lang.Object. From webdynpro, I am successfully able to make a call to the Webservice (as there is no exception with model execute command), but the return value is always null. I am not sure if the webservice is not returning any data or if I am not reading the correct context element. There is no documentation available for the webservice either.
    Can anyone tell me what is that I am missing. Is it not possible for Webdynpro to call a webservice which can return only XML data?
    Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi guys,
    i have a form in which one of its components is a optional file that can be uploaded to the server. Up here, no matter...
    I thought that i could evaluate the file size, so i would avoid upload process which size was bigger than something, like 10kBytes. Of course, i wouldnt like to do something like: post to servlet and then, dispatcher an error page. If the browser could stay with the same page( and form), it would be very good!
