Is it possible to keep an email account on the iPhone but stop if from checking for new mail?

I have an email account that has been deleted from the provider (Gmail), but I want to keep the old mails on my phone, while stopping it from checking for new mail.  Is this possible?
If I disable the account to stop if from checking for new mail (and producing a bunch of annoying pop-ups every time the mail app is opened), the account becomes invisible and the old mails disappear.  I want to keep them visible to I can read and refer to them, but want to stop the phone from trying to download new ones or check the account.
Any help appreciated.

Thanks for the thought.  In this case, that doesn't really help much, as it requires a bunch of button pushing just to check emails.  Plus, if I'm not mistaken, in addition to switching modes every time I check email, it also prevents the other accounts from downloading the most recent mails as well.  Since it's possible to keep an account on a Mac computer, but take it offline, it's very disappointing if there isn't a way to do the equivalent on an iPhone so that it passively holds the mails but doesn't send constant pop-ups every time the app is accessed.

  • Email automatically checking for new mail !

Has anyone else had this problem.
As far as i'm aware my iPhone is set to only check for new mail manually, but on making a phonecall it automatically checks for new mail and pings up on my iPhone.
Push is off, Fetch new data is off, and advanced setting are all set as 'Manual'.
Any luddite mistakes i may be making ?
    Thanks,
    Scott.

Mine only seems to do that at 11:30PM.
Don't ask why the time.. nothing consistently triggers my random email fetching.

    Hey Garlicdaisy,
Thank you for the follow up.
With iCloud, you can have iTunes automatically download new music purchases to all your devices the moment you tap Buy. You can also access past music, movie, and TV show purchases from any of your devices — wirelessly and without syncing.
For more information, see the following:
Apple - iCloud - All your music on all your devices.

To download past purchases on your devices, follow these steps:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

If you want the benefits of iTunes in the Cloud for music you haven’t purchased from iTunes, iTunes Match is the perfect solution:

  • Having issue setting up email account on the iphone.

having issue setting up email account on the iphone.  Going into settings mail, contacts, calendars...it goes back to the welcome screen.  How do I delete all email accounts and set up from scratch?

I was having the exact same issue.  It was driving me crazy.  Just as a fluke, I tried logging in to my wife's account on the verizon.net website to se if I had a bad password or something.  As soon as I logged in on my computer, her account verified & installed on her iphone.  I have no idea why, but it worked.

  • Email not checking for new mail

hi, my email has stopped auto checking for new mail ( as it is set up to) , and will only do so when i quit and restart the program
if i hit get mail while it's running, nothing happens
i can see new emails via .mac but will only get them if i quit and restart mail
also now the rules and i have sometimes work and sometimes don't
i tried sending myself test emails, and there is long delay between sending and receiving it ( about an hour )
    thanks

    hi there
    it's .mac
we did try removing the .plist file, and it made no differnce
i am getting increasingly frustrated by the mail app, it's never been a particularlty good example of MAC software ( not very stable ), but now as well as unexplainable lulls where all you can do is watch spinning clock faces ( despite having a fast broadband connection ) , i'm also having to deal with sent emails re-appearing as drafts, even though they have been already been sent
i feel like i don't have the time to keep trying to find out what is going on, as i'm very busy right now, although any help is always appreciated
    thanks
    Alan,
Refresh my memory: what type(s) of account are you
using -- POP, IMAP or .mac?
Since I believe your setting up a new User Account,
and Mail in it worked, did you ever remove the
com.apple.mail.plist, and cause Mail to need to be
setup again? To do this, quit Mail, and in the
Finder open Home/Library and locate the Mail folder.
Control-click over the Mail folder, and choose
Duplicate -- then drag the resulting copy to the
Desktop for temporary backup. Next, open
    Home/Library/Preferences and find the
com.apple.mail.plist file and drag it to the
    desktop.
Relaunch Mail, which will open as though new, and
when prompted to import anything DECLINE.
Instead, re-enter your account info, and Mail will
re-discover the account for this account, and all
    should be well.
Sorry that I have not had time to go back over every
    one of your prior posts.

  • Mail constantly checks for new mail; downloads same emails repeatedly HELP!

For the last three days (since 19th), Mail has been downloading the same emails over and over again. I first noticed a problem when about 20 spam emails that usually route to my Junk folder appeared in my Inbox. I thought I had just moved it incorrectly and deleted them, then they appeared again later.
The mail jogger cycle (next to Inbox) keeps turning and turning like it can't stop checking for new mail. How do I get it to stop?? The emails are multiplying like gremlins in my Inbox and driving me nuts!
Also, it only downloads new emails when I first open the app. I have to force-quit out of Mail, then reopen, and I will get a couple of new emails, and then ALL THE EMAILS FOR THE LAST THREE DAYS AGAIN.
Mail was working fine for me until three days ago. The only thing I've changed recently is a Software Update on the 15th for QuickTime and iTunes.
Please help! I tried to Repair Permissions and it didn't do anything. I also tried removing all messages from the server and that did nothing either.
    Mail Version 2.1
THANK YOU ANYONE WHO CAN HELP ME!!
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   2.1 GHz, 512 MB Memory

UPDATE: I think I got it to stop checking mail. I have Yahoo mail and I checked my email through online Yahoo. I was able to delete a bunch of emails and it suddenly stopped checking for email in the Mail app.
HOWEVER, it will NOT remove some of my junk emails. I was able to delete over 100+ of them. But one specific message (which I now have 8 copies of) will not go away. It is one of those 'Delivery Status Notification' emails. Is this a virus??
I've tried Erasing Deleted Messages and Erasing Junk Mail. Neither helps. These emails won't go away.
Help please! I would be very grateful.

  • Check for new mail not working on one account

For a number of months now I have been having trouble getting new mail. I have my Apple Mail 2.1 preferences set to check for new mail every minute and play a New Mail Sound when something arrives. This seems to be working for my earthlink POP account but not my dot.mac e-mail account. The only way to get new dot.mac e-mail on my G5 tower is to alternately click on the left most icons for the different incomming tray icons in my in box, then the InBox icon itself. I dont have to do that for my second e-mail account--an earthlink POP account, or on either account on my laptop. Also, When I do click on the specific in box for my dot mac account, it takes forever to load that new mail, and the activity monitor shows that it is caching every attachment that is already in my in box even though it is already old mail.
Also, Mail seems to be following Smart Mailboxes arbitrarily. For instance, I have a smart mailbox set up to display any incoming mail from someone in my Family Group from address book, however it seems to ignore about half of these, but display the other half accurately.
Anyone know whats going on or how to fix it so I dont have to mannually keep checking for new mail? Again, I have my preferences set to check for new mail every minute and to play a new mail sound, and new mail does work fine from my Earthlink POP account.
    Thanks for your help.

If this happens to your .Mac account only, try rebuilding the mailbox, i.e. select it and do Mailbox > Rebuild.

  • Just got an iphone 4 from my dad and its his old iphone and i was gonna delete his account so i can put my account on the iphone but he does not remember the  password so I couldnt delete it. I need help deleting it without a password

just got an iphone 4 from my dad and its his old iphone and i was gonna delete his account so i can put my account on the iphone but he does not remember the  password so I couldnt delete it. I need help deleting it without a password.

If the iPad has Activation Lock - that is, it's asking for the previous owner's Apple ID and password to activate the device or to turn off Find My iPhone - then you will need that information. There's no way around it If your father can't remember the password, he'll need to recover it.
    http://iforgot.apple.com
If he can't do it via that page, then he'll have to call Apple Support and ask to speak with Account Security.
If that's not the "password" you meant, please post back and clarify.
    Regards.

  • HT3748 My exchange email account works in iPhone but it does not work in mac, how do i solve it?

I've tried several times to add my work exchange email account on macBook Pro but it cant connect to the server. It works fine on my iPhone. Is there any solution to this problem?

Are you connecting to Exchange 2003? If yes, Mail requires Exchange 2007 and higher. Your iPhone can connect but not Mail. You would have to setup as POP in Mail. Microsoft Entourage 2008 connects to Exchange 2003. It's old End of Life software so it will receive no further updates.
If you are using one of the newer versions of Exchange you might need to turn off AutoDiscover settings. This link has directions for Microsoft Outlook:

  • Is it possible to sync multiple mobileme accounts onto the iphone, syncing ical calendars for these multiple mobile me accounts ?

I am trying to sync two mobileme accounts into my iphone and each account have different calendars ( all being with ical NOT CALDAV).
Now, my question is can I sync these different calendars, belonging to different mobileme accounts, into the iphone? please assist me on this matter.
Basically i want to have a work calendar  to share with my colleagues and a personal calendar to share just with my friends and family.

You are correct.  This used to work in the past although admittedly I haven't tried it for some time as it was of no direct use for my purposes.
If the goal is to see another MobileMe account's calendar(s) on your iOS device then an alternative would be to share the calendar(s) in question to yourself.
    Example:
Assume you currently have MobileMe user account A on your iPhone.
Login to MM user account B with me.com which has the calendar you wish to have access to on your iPhone
    Click on Calendars
Click on the Share button for the calendar you wish to see added to your iPhone.
Type in the MobileMe email address for MM user account A and set it for read & write access
Login to MM user account A on me.com
Go to calendars and accept the invitation to join the calendar you sent from MM account B
Go your iPhone (you may need to turn it on and off to make the calendars refresh ) and check your calendars, you should now have the other calendars added to your MobileMe account A's calendar
Note: You can repeat step # 3 for each of the calendars you wish to see on your iPhone.

  • Two email accounts on the iphone?

I currently have my iphone setup with my personal pop3 account.
    1. I want to add my work exchange account to the iphone as well. Can someone tell me how that works? Will it dump all the mail into one mailbox and not distinguish which messages came from which account? How does it handle if i create a new message, which account it will send from?
    2. Along the same lines, I am syncing to MS Outlook 2003 with my personal pop3 account and personal contacts. I intend to add my work exchange account and calendar. Will the iphone sync whatever is in my calendar regardless of where it came from (personal vs work)?
    Thanks!

I have five accounts on mine.. but be aware that the phone does not support some accounts.. Mine are AOL one is yahoo. it does not support hotmail, it does support gmail but some company accounts are not accessible. <</div>
I think the issue actually is that Hotmail (and some others) do not include support of the POP or IMAP email protocol unless you pay for the "upgrade" to those (standard) features. It is just a way to siphon money with a "free" service. The device is perfectly capable of interfacing with all the providers I use.
I have 9 accounts from 5 providers...... all good so far.

  • Im tryin got set up my outlook email account on my iphone but its asking for a "server" i dont no what this means?

i'm trying to add my outlook email account to my iphone3gs but when i've typed all the information in it
comes up with "server" i've looked around to find out what this means but i just dont no, what do i type there?
or how do i atleast find out what to type there?

Check with your company or email provider for the server. If you use a webmail, the server is also hidden sometimes in the advanced options. Are you using Outlook Web Access or some other email service that you use with the outlook application?

  • After MobileMe Mail update june 18, email quits after checking for new mail

on jun 18 2010 a All-new Mail update & Find my iPhone update on my iPod Touch has changed something alright. After checking for emails (me.com), the visual feedback hour thingie stops turning and then the email program on the iPod Touch quits. Restarted the iPod Touch but no change. Even if I can open an email, after 1 second the program quits. I have removed the Find my iPhone application but that did not fix the problem. This problem appeared AFTER the update. I removed the application Find my iPhone / iPod Touch because that program could not find my iPod, since I am working abroad.
Must I reset the iPod Touch to factory defaults and load it again? Then find out if it works ?

After receiving no tips on how to tackle this, I decided to just delete the email profiles on the iPod Touch and build from scratch. Since I use more than 1 emailaccount on that iPod Touch. It seems (so far) that the local Internet Service Provider with it's email settings is responsable for the crashes on iTouch. It checks an awfull long time for mail. On the Desktop computer iMac 20, Apple Mail program works ok. So maybe the new version is more critical about certain protocols. (?)
Anyway I deleted that emailaccount on the iPod Touch for now.

  • I have just updated my iphone 3gs to the latest operating system but cannot now update my emails even though it tells me I have new emails in my btinternet account. I have tried re-installing the email account onto my iphone but to no avail.

After some troubleshooting, I decided to order a new battery.  I replaced the battery and was then able to get it to restore, however--after I restore it and it comes time to restart the phone, it gets stuck and doesn't turn on.
Sorry, your repair ruined the iPhone.
She does not have apple care and even though she loved this device, she isn't going to buy another iPhone because of all the problems shes had with this one (it's just over a year old).
After you ruined the iPhone with DIY, Apple won't touch it anymore. You should have asked before all these had happened.
I'm an android user myself and I love rooting/flashing new ROMS, so if jailbreaking her phone or doing some kind of super-restore with 3rd party programs might help, I'm all for it-
Yeah, all Android user can think of is Jailbreaking, read this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3743

  • I have several email accounts on my iphone but only my icloud emails show in icloud

is it normal that i backed up 3 email accounts to icloud but only my icloud email shows in icloud

    iCloud doesn't backup email accounts.
iCloud provides an optional email account that syncs between all your devices.
iCloud does nothing at all for external non-iCloud email accounts.
