Debug app for office on office online

Hi,
I want to test the task pane app for office which I created and haven't published on office online, but I cannot find a way. In the project properties, I already selected Internet Explorer from "Start Action", but it doesn't work. It keeps asking
me to input Site URL.
Can anyone tell me?

According to the description, you want to debug the apps for Office for the Office online.
To debug for the Office onine, we need to provide a SharePoint site which host the Office online. That's the reason that Visual Studio needs us to provide the site URL.

[Outlook 2013] Apps for Office and Internet Explorer 11 (IE11)

We have the following configuration:
Windows 7 Professional,
Internet Explorer 11,
Microsoft Office 2013 (32-bit),
Microsoft Exchange 2013 CU6,
Symantec Enterprise Vault 11.
Patch level Microsoft Until 03-oct-2014, so very very recent.
What is the problem, in Exchange its possible to use "Office Web Apps" for integration with OWA. This works very good and we dont have any problems with OWA and the Office Web Apps within OWA Enterprise client.
But, in Outlook 2013, almost every "App for Office" crashes with a popup from Internet Explorer 11. When we open the App, we get a loading.... and after a while A popup with the message "Internet Exporer stopped working".
This is with every App i tested. And it can be reproduced.
What we tried:
Proxy settings;
Re-install Office 2013;
Internet Zone settings;
Browser compatibility modus with zones;
Reset internet explorer settings;
Various reg-hacks for IE security;
GPO settings for untrusted locations of Office Web Apps.
And lucky? No.
So we went back to IE9, and it works like a charm. No problems at all. But Unfortunately, IE9 is not an option due to company apps written for IE10+.
But when it works outside Outlook 2013 in IE11, but not inside outlook with IE11, there must be a problem somewhere with Outlook 2013/IE 11 integration. And actually, the currents Apps we don't need in Outlook 2013 (until snd quarter 2015, then we need them).
So for this time we configured "Block Apps for Office" GPO setting and depoyed it. And... In Every Office components Apps are disabled, but NOT in Outlook. So the GPO is not working for Outlook.
How to solve?

App for Office -- Opening a document -- Default behavior and options

I have created a simple App for Office with a task pane. After launching the application, when I open another (existing) document, it opens a new window. The new window does not have the task pane open.
Is there any way to open the new document in the same window as the original document? The task pane should also remain open.

Hi Ojix,
According to the description, you want to keep the apps for Office inserted automaticlly when you open a new document.
As far as I know, this is not supported. Based on my understanding, when we insert the apps for Office into an document, there are some settings about apps are inserted. And since these settings will not inserted when we creating an new document, the apps
will not be inserted automaticlly.
If you do want Excel to support this feature, you can try to submit the feedback by click the "smile face" at the top right corner of Excel.

Is there any "Apps for Office" that can connect to Tabular Model ?

all the "Apps for Office" that i saw in the "STORE" are using the tables that alrady in the excel ( powerpivot ) , but i need to use those tables which are on the
Tabular Model

According to your description, you want to find the recently used tables in tabular tables. Right?
In Excel, the My Apps just shows the Apps which are embedded in Office, it's not related to SSAS tabular at all. SSAS tabular is just a BI feature for SQL Server. Excel can just open a connection to SSAS tabular model and import the data into pivot table
report or something else. If you want to see the recently used data. You may see then in the
Recently Workbooks.

Hi,
I’m not sure if I understand your question correctly, so please correct me if I have any misunderstandings.
For the defined names, I assume you mean the named range. If so, you can create the binding to the named range through
Bindings.addFromNamedItemAsync method.
For the styles, I think the article below may give you some help.

By the way, there are no methods to iterate the styles and named range through the current Office JavaScript API.

How to move an email from user mailbox to shared mailbox using apps for office mail app

How can I move an email from a users main mailbox to a shared mailbox using apps for office. I know I can do this manually but i am creating an for owa/outlook that would be a button to move the item. I have tried using ews but can only find

Can I create a xml that would would do this? Is there a way to do it using the EWS service reference. I do not want to use import/export to do this.

yes I was able to make it work using Microsoft.Exchange.WebServices.Data and writing it as a web API, however i am unable to to authenticate the user if it is hosted on another server (without them retyping their password. I assume that
their is a matching java script version of what i am doing on the api side. I am just stuck trying to figure it out. the below code works as a Web Api if i could authenticate the user.

Does BCM work for Office online for education

I have office 365 Academic and downloaded BCM.
I've installed and used it for a few days. Now it stopped working, I can still see the link, but it's kind of frozen.
Is Business Contact Manager supposed to work for
Office 365 Academic and if yes, how can I fix the problem.
If no, can I purchase it with a one-time payment
and kind of download it from the web or do I need to change the plan and pay monthly?

Yammer for Academic
The latest desktop version of Office
Lync Online (Plan 2)
Office Online for Education
SharePoint Plan 2 for EDU
Exchange Online (Plan 2)

BCM should work well as you mentioned you had used it for a few days, and you also have the latest desktop version of Office. However, I haven't found any official documents about this, I will need to do more research on this.
About the issue "I can still see the link, but it's kind of frozen." What link is it here you referred to? Let's see whether we can work together to fix the issue.

Can't create Virtual App for Office 2007

I'm trialing ZAV 8.0.1 and was able to virtualise a very simple app no problem so I figuerd I'd move to something more complex, such as Office.
I trying to use the wizard but I keep getting the following error

I can't find anything on the support site, anyone else come accross this?

Worked it out, I was accessing my snapshotting vm via RDP, seems ZAV don't like that.

How to get Client ID and Client Secret for Office App for Word which accessing SharePoint Online

we currently implementing an Office App for MS Word which access SharePoint list and get data from lists. Our aim is any user can get this app from Office App store and enter their SharePoint URL and browse their own SharePoint lists and use those. When
I was checking mechanisms which you used to access SharePoint, in some of them have used ClientId and Client Secret to authenticate with SharePoint. I have following questions.
1.If I want to sell my app using Office app store where can I get those clientId and client secret which is used to get the access tokens.
2.Is it possible to create SharePoint app and publish it to SharePoint app store and get clientId and client secret and use it when accessing through office. So users first download our SharePoint app install it to their SharePoint environment then get out

As far as I know, when register your web app to SharePoint Online, you will get the ClientId and ClientSecret from the Azure Active Directory. And you need to store the Client ID and Client

Create office app for word using visual studio 2013

i tried to create an app for office using visual studio 2013 i just created one in task pane with all default settings and then deployed succesffully and i can't find the app in task pane in word office any ideas

Please try to enable a build-in app for Office, such as "Bing dictionary" and check if the task pane pop-up.
If the "Bing dictionary" works well, I suppose that this issue might be caused by itself. I recommend you post the question to Word for DEV forum:

If all the apps can't be used, they might be blocked. Please go to File/option/trust center/trusted app catalogs/enable it.

Apps for Excel Online and IFrames

We've just submitted an app for approval. The report we received indicates that the app doesn't load in Excel Online. This is because we include an X-Frame-Options: DENY header when we serve the app, which tells the browser not to render it in iframes.
We really don't want to leave off that header, for security reasons. Not very many browsers support X-Frame-Options: ALLOW-FROM, so I don't think that's a good option. Is there some way to render the app without iframes? Or some other solution that
doesn't involve compromising security? We can't be the only ones who have run into this.

To test the apps for Office using Office online, we need to have an Office 365 Developer Site (a SharePoint site preconfigured for apps).
Then we can change the Start action to the broswer and set the site url with the Office 365 Devloper site like figure below:

Getting error when updating the JavaScript API for Office and manifest schema files in your Visual Studio project from version 1.0 to 1.1

Hi,
I`m getting error message like "None of the apps in your project can be activated in the target. The manifest file of one or more apps contain API sets or Office applications that are not supported by
the target Office client. To debug those apps, update manifest files to exclude any unsupported API sets or Office applications, and then start the project again. Alternatively, you can debug your apps by using Office 365 as a target." when when
updating the JavaScript API for Office and manifest schema files in your Visual Studio project from version 1.0 to 1.1 in manifest file though i have added host elements.
any help in this regard is highly appreciated

Based on the description, you got the error message when you update the apps from version 1.0 to 1.1.
From the error message, it seems the menifest include some settings no allowed in the new version. Would you mind sharing more detail about how you update the project?

API for office 365

Hi,
I'm looking to access Office 365 mail, calendar, contacts.
Is there are REST API available for this?
I found I can use SOAP, but when authenticating against https://outlook.office365.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx I'm not getting anything.
Is there anything specific settings in Office 365 that needs to be enabled? I'm not developing an app for office 365. Simply want to push and pull data from Office 365 using stateless web calls without library. For reference I'm using Python.

I am completely new to anything Dev/Code but am really interested in learning to develop apps for SharePoint (predominantly SharePoint Online).
