Debugging Scripts in SQL Developer

The error messages refer to line numbers, but how do reference them?
I turned on line numbers in the editor but there is no correspondence.
Thanks

Do you select/highlight the statement before running? That would reset the line numbers for the selection.
Else give more details (like post the script and exact steps you take).
Hope that helps,
K.

  • NullPointerException when opening a script in SQL Developer 4.0.0.12

I recently upgraded to SQL Developer v.4.0.0.12 64 bit, and am running into some issues.
I am running this on 64 bit Windows 7. I have a 64 bit Oracle 11, and in addition have the 32 bit oracle client installed.
I made an association between the .sql file extension and sqldeveloper64W.exe.
However I frequently get a nullpointerexception when clicking on a script in the file explorer.
It seems to occur mostly if I loaded scripts into SQL Developer before.
If I close all the windows before closing SQL Developer and then click on a script in the file manager, things work (startup is arguably slower than v.3).
But in most cases either nothing happens, or I get the NullPointerException below.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Regards,
    Wim

  • Problems with debugging in Oracle sql developer

    Dear all,
I have a stored procedure with about 3500 lines of code. The SP is calling some other SP's , so altogether around 30,000 lines of code is to executed.
I have some delete statements in the beginning of my SP.
Till nw i was able to debug and run this SP.
But nw I am facing a strange problem.
    I can run the SP.
But if i try to debug it , it gets hanged after the delete statement and does not move forward.
So i moved all that statements to another SP and I call the new SP from my present one.
In this way If i debug , after calling the newly created SP , my main Sp does not recognise the break points , and it just finishes execution ..
Can any one help me on this.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Kurian Simon

    Simon,
Did you move the breakpoint, and once you'd moved the lines of code, did you recompile, using compile for debug? Also, it's important to do compile for debug on all the program units you want to debug, otherwise SQL Developer will just step over the units not compiled for debug.

  • Debugging in Oracle SQL Developer

I would like to know how to debug my PL / SQL programs in the Oracle SQL Developer program using breakpoints and such. I've never known how to use debugging tools like this and since this program provides this kind of feature, I was wondering if anyone on here might be able to shine some light on this for me. How are these used? How could I use them to say, figure out what the value of a given variable might be on line whatever? Etc.
One reason I'm setting out to learn this is because I'm tired of typing DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE all the time. I would think that there must be a better way than this.
Lastly (and while we're on that subject), what would cause SQL Developer to not output a DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE line? I've given this a string of text to output to the monitor and it's not working. It's in the DECLARE section (thinking I could place these almost anywhere my tiny little heart desired, but apparently, I'm wrong?)
    Again, any insight is appreciated.

    - K - :
Oh, I get it... We had another pesky drop-out fishing for homework cheats again, right?
Here's a suggestion to make this forum (you know, a place where people come together who all think differently about things both deep and shallow) somewhat more accepting and useful a place for idiots like me who might happen to overlook an apparently obvious "Help" menu item with the glowing neon-colored label heading of "Table of Contents": instead of wasting your own time (let alone, others) by posting silly responses that serve arbitrary agendas for the sake of inflating one's ego and online rep points due to having a bad high school experience, why not just instead take a high road (all the real Oracle kings around here hopefully take) and either ignore the response altogether or post something at least 1% useful. Sound like a plan? Great! For instance, why not inquire about why someone posted something that might not make sense to you? It's an amazing concept...
    Because after all...
"+I'm often perplexed about the "answers" we get. Seems like you never posted your suggestions.+"
...doesn't do a lot for people who come across this thread in similar straights or perspective I was in at the time of creating it.
    That said, something like...
"+Since you're using Oracle SQL Developer, you should have a 'Help' menu item near the top of the window. Click on it and then click on 'Table of Contents'. Proceed to do as Jim suggested by locating the topic 'Running and Debugging Functions and Procedures'. In that section of the contents, you will find more information about debugging your program, tips and tricks, etc. If this doesn't help you or if you're unsure about something in general, feel free to post back and we'll try to help you further.+"
...is much more helpful and succinct. It's welcoming, objective, and very informative (not that Jim's response wasn't).
On that note, Jim, I do appreciate your response. When I first read your suggestion, I had misinterpreted what you proposed in the heat of the moment. Above all else, I also had some things going on around me that were distracting me. Thanks again. I'm reading the topic right now...

  • Default path for scripts within SQL Developer version 3.2.20.09.87

I have SQL Developer version 3.2.20.09.87 and needed to know if the 'Set default path to look for scripts' be a UNC path?
    Thanks

I hadn't tried it but now I did and it worked.
I also tried setting the Utilities Export default file location to a UNC path and I was able to set it but when I try to go to it via the 'browse' button, it doesnt go to it. It does, however, use it when I export.
Also when I do File > Open, I'm not able to navigate to UNC paths via the 'Home' or 'Desktop' buttons on the left hand side of the window and am not able to navigate to a network location from the 'Locations' box.
Any ideas? I am on Windows 7.
    Thanks

  • HOW TO : Writing simple scripts in SQL Developer??

Here is a simple script I run in SQL*Plus...
the first SQL prints the QCSID, the second script prompts for a SID which is the QCSID from the first SQL... once provided it gives me the output I want...
I just cannot do this in SQL DEVELOPER..... or Can I?
    select distinct qcsid from v$px_session;
    select sid,serial#,qcsid,qcserial#,degree,req_degree from v$px_session
    where qcsid in (select qcsid from v$px_session where sid='&sid');

    Ganesh,
Simple substitution and defines work in SQL Developer scripts.
I think the problem with running your script is that the first query results are not displayed before the window asking for the '&sid' value. That is the output to the 'screen output' tab is buffered and not synchronized with additional pop up (or dialog) windows. Is that correct?
    Currently:
You can use substitution variables in the f5 'Run Script' but no bind variables.
You can use bind variables in the f9 'Execute Statement' but no substitution statements.
You can use anonymous PLSQL blocks, and packaged functions and procedures, so you can store per session state in PLSQL packages.

  • Extracting Script from sql developer

I have to extract the script of 25 tables from a database including all its objects. How can i do this using sql developer using any script

You can try this : But you have to write DBMS_METADATA.get_ddl 25 times as cols and give alias to them
    SELECT DBMS_METADATA.get_ddl ('TABLE', 'TABLE_NAME') t1,
    DBMS_METADATA.get_ddl ('TABLE', 'TABLE_NAME') t2
    FROM DUAL;
Lets see what others suggests .. But this will get your CREATE scripts as well as will get to know as which objects being used in tables.

  • Scripts in SQL Developer

    Dear budddies,
I need to migrate a few hundred tables from SQL Server 2005 to Oracle 10g, both residing in different servers.
My firms requirement is as such, that they should be able to redo the migration at any point in time, so they prefer using anything in a script form.
If I use SQL Developer's script for DLL and the scripts to Move Data, would I be able to recreate them at any point in time in any database?
I need only the tables and the data.
    Please advice.
    Nith

Sure, I don't see why not. But best try it out yourself instead of relying always on forum posts.

SQL Server Physical model doesn't save table identity column.
here are the steps to get this bug:
    1. create a table in relational model with a column as an integer to be used as an identity.
    2. create or open a physical model for SQL-SERVER 2005
    3. open the table in the physical model
    4. edit the integer column property dialog
    5. tick the identity check box and close the property dialog
    6. save the model and close it
    7. open it again, you will find the identity check is removed! (probably not saved from the start)

I select "new", but the SQL File is grey. My version is 1.0.14.67, OS is Windowxp

I think that you may have an unpatched version or a bad copy.
Try a clean install or checking for updates in your current version.
