Default error message

1. Is there an administrator setting that can make the path and name of the referring template be left out in a default error message but still be recorded in application.log?
2. If the answer to 1. is yes, does the ColdFusion service need to be turned off and back on for it to take effect?
3. Is cferror with type of request or exception as good as usiing cfcatch/try blocks?
Thank you very much.

1. Yes. The referrer of a page is CGI.HTTP_Referer. The administrator allows you to switch off CGI variables from the debugging output. The settings are  under Debugging & Logging => Debug Output Settings. You simply have to uncheck the CGI checkbox.
2. No, you don't have to restart Coldfusion. Just press the button to submit the changes.
3. Cferror is just as good as cfcatch/try. However, cferror is suited to site-wide error-handling, whereas try-catch is suited for error-handling within a block of code or page.

  • Override Default Error Messages

    Hi,
    We are using ADF components and want to override the default error handling mechanism. The requirement to be precise, whenever we validate an input text for mandatory, we get the default error message which shows us a cross, displays "Error: A value is required" and then our message which we specified in the requiredMessageDetail. Our requirement is that on validation the system should display only our message, both on the <af:message and <af:messages level.
    Can someone please suggest a way of ovveriding the default behaviour of ADF Errors.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Lilly

  • Change default error messages

    Hello..
    I want to change the default error message in apex. for example I wanna change the Not-Null default error message so instead of "Field1 must have some value" I wanna get "Field1 must not be null".
    Thanks

    Hi Patrick,
    It’s an interesting reply, especially as the OP marked it as correct, but still I’m trying to understand something.
    As far as I can tell, you can use the translation system only for messages that was defined under a different language from the application primary language. For example, if you are working in English, and you are defining new text messages under English, with new text content, the Application Builder will ignore them as long as your application language is English (i.e. you can’t change/edit the internally used messages of your primary language). So, is this particular text message different?
    Thanks,
    Arie.

  • Suppress default error messages.

    Hi Friends
    I have one query that
    I had a .jspx page which contains the label textbox and button.
    I have made the inputText 's property showRequired="true" and now when i submit the clear button i donot want to display the error message (suppress the error message) for the mandatory fields must contain value.What neccessary changes i should do to achieve this?
              <td class="formLabel">
                  <af:outputText value="username"
                                 styleClass="AFFieldText" escape="false" id="ot13"/>
                  <af:outputLabel inlineStyle="color:Red;" value="*" id="ol3"/>
                 </td>
                 <td>
                  <af:inputText columns="30" value=""
                                required="true" simple="true"
                                label="username"
                                showRequired="true" id="it1">
                               </af:inputText>
                 </td>
    <td>
    <af:commandButton text="clear"
                                    action="as" rendered="true"
                                    id="cb2">
                                    </af:commandButton>
    </td>

    Look like you are looking for a mechanism to reset the contents from model
    You may need to try adding <af:resetActionListener/> as a child of the button whose immediate=true .More details - http://jobinesh.blogspot.com/2009/10/reset-content-of-web-page.html

  • How do you use user defined error messages in Value Help?

    Hi,
    I'm currently working on a Modifiable Value Help Selector in Web Dynpro Java, and I want to use a user defined error message when I validate the values entered by a user. Currently, it's returning its default error message ("Character <string> does not match...").
    Since the project requires a different error message, is there a way to override the default error message and use my defined error message instead?
    Thanks!

    Hi Angelo,
    I am not sure why message area is showing both Custom and inbuilt messages but you can try the following:
    i guess you must be using reportContextAttribute exception for showing Error messages on the input fields as well.in that case you can disable the message area so messages will appear only on the Context level ie; on input fields.
    For other messages apart from validation messages you can enable the message area before reporting the exception.
    make sure the boolean context variable which will be used for enabling and disabling the message area should have Readonly property set as true.
    I am not sure whether this is the only solution for this but you can try and see if it works.

  • Regarding error message in a different locale

    Hi
    I have 2 applicaions .
    one contains task flow containing 1 jsff having one input text required property set to true.
    other contains page template having 2 links to switch language based on locale.
    If I use another adf application and import task flow it works well.
    but if I import task flow into webcenter portal application as adf jar file and insert TF as region then it gives error message always in english and ok button in appropriate locale.
    If I use another adf application and import task flow it works well.
    can you suggest some solution for this.
    JDEV - 11.4

    Yes I am using default error messages generated by adf framework . for ex. required="true"
    for changing locale my code is:
      public void setLocaleEnUS() {
        // change the locale
        Locale newLocale = new Locale("en", "US");
        FacesContext fctx=FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
        fctx.getViewRoot().setLocale(newLocale);
        setPreferredLocale(FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getViewRoot().getLocale());
      public void setLocaleZhHK() {
        // change the locale
        Locale newLocale = new Locale("zh", "TW");
        FacesContext fctx=FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
        fctx.getViewRoot().setLocale(newLocale);
        setPreferredLocale(FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getViewRoot().getLocale());
      }

    Hi
    I have a JSF from containing around 10 controls(input, select etc.) .
    Now I need to display an error message in case any of the mandatory control has validation error.
    Message format would be like
    "*Please,Complete the fields marked with yellow!"* The message I need to show in a div tag with Yelow background.
    Currently, I am getting individual default error message in case validation fails and related field is bordered with Yellow.
    My code is below.

    This Phase listener is to border the control with Yellow in case validation fail.
    Now my Query
    *1) How can I show a single message for all fields as I marked above in case of validation failure?*
    *2) Now, the control is becoming yellow borderd when user clicks the submit button and validation fails.*
    *User can move from one control to other using tab. That time proper validation message is appearing.*
    *but the border of the control is not changing to yellow.*
    *What's the correcion can be made to meet that requirement too.*

    Hi Nabheet,
    Thanks for your response.
    The FM returns the error messages if they are standard ones. For example, if the posting period is closed - the FM will not allow the Workflow to proceed further.
    But in this case, I have a custom error - for a particular Profit center, Cost center and I/O fields are mandatory(not at time of parking, but should be filled before posting).
    Since this is not a standard error, this FM will not stop workflow from proceeding further. How can I have the custom error captured in this FM?
    Thanks.

  • How to customize an Error Message

    Hi Gurus,
    Does anyone knows how can I customize the error messages?
    In example, I'm getting the "???en.DOBJ.UPDATE_PERMISSION_DENIED???" error message when a user try to change the user details and do not have permission. But I would like to show a friendly message like "You do not have permission to change this object" or something else.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi bigboss,
    Thank you for your help. But in which format I need to input the error translation in xlWebAdmin.properties? Something like "DOBJ.UPDATE_PERMISSION_DENIED = You do not have permission to update this object" ?
    Just to let you know, I need to show more user friendly error messages for OIM default error messages.
    Cheers.

  • Validation Errors - Messages Presentation

    By default, error messages associated with validations are displayed in popup dialogs for client-side validations or as a message on the page for server side validations.
    I have a requirement that both validations need to be displayed as popup messages.
    Is this possible to achieve with ADF Faces? If so which article / document do you recommend me reading ?
    Thanks,
    Claudio.

    Yes, requirement is to be a Javascript alert window (same as it is done right now by ADF Faces when validations are done on the client).
    Is there other option available apart from that of displaying a message on the page for server side validations ?
    Thanks,
    Claudio.

  • ADF-BC:Customize Error Messages for Database Constraint Violations

    Hai all
    I have an apploication using JDEV 10.1.3.3 and ADF BC.
    In my applcation I'm overriding the default error messages on violation of constraints by using a custom message bundle .
    I did all the things specified in Oracle® ADF Developer's Guide
    Chapter 25.8 Customizing Business Components Error Messages .
    IT is working fine
    My problem is along with the userdefined custom messge in the bundle
    another default message is showing which is nothing meaningful to the
    end user.
    For Ex: for an Uniqiue constraint the following error message comes
    Error
    1 .The Usercode should be unique!!!
    2 .ORA-00001: unique constraint (MYDB.USERCODEUNIQUE) violated
    ORA-06512: at line 1
    The first line is defined by me.the second one is added automatically.
    I want to prevent showing the error no 2 for all DB constraint violations
    Is there any method to do it.I think I'm missing someting
    Please help me.This is very annoying to the end user.
    Thanks

  • Error message customization issues

    Hi ppl,
    This is with regards to the issue with customization error messages, I have already gone through the following,but haven't been able to achieve what i want:-

    I have certain basic validations
    -should contain one numeric
    -must not be less than 8 charecters etc
    i can do the following:-
    make my own customized message bundle and successfully throw it when my custom method validator fails , i do so by using the command:-
    throw new AdminJboException (AdminMsgBundle.USER_ID_NO_SPACE,params);
    where AdminMsgBundle is my customized bundle message class and AdminJboException is a custom class that extends JBo exception ( for conveniance ).
    What i can't do is this :-

    At validation ( i presume at validateEntity() ), my exception gets thrown ), but before that the JBO-27024 gets thrown (because the data doesnt get validated and hence not stored and hence null), following which the required error is thrown , following which the 27025 and 27014 are thrown. Is there anyway i can suppress the JBO default error messages ONLY when i know for sure that my validation error message has been thrown. I was able to suppress the JBO-27014 exception altogether from the EntityModelImpl ( out of frustration ) , and it worked , but obviously it hampered proper functioning in other areas.
    My question is :--
    Which is the simplest cleanest way of throwing only your customized message and ignoring the default JBO ones when your exception is thrown , and letting things go normally if your customized exception is not thrown... ?
    P.S i can even override the "content" of the message being thrown from 27014 etc, but thats not what i want .
    Thanks in advance !
