Default optimization for new files in Acrobat 9 Pro

When I create a new file in Acrobat Pro 9, it automatically saves as version 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x). Much as I would love the whole world to have the latest reader version on their computer, the reality is that many of my website's users have older versions installed. As a consequence, I need to optimize all files as version 1.4, otherwise they won't be able to open the documents in their browsers.
Why isn't there a preference setting to optimize all new files as 1.4 by default? This would save having to run the optimizer every time. Also, if I start from a file that is already optimized as 1.4, I extract a page and save it, this saves as 1.6. Why? If I am starting from a 1.4 PDF, surely that's the version I want?
So every time I extract a page, tese are the steps I have to take:
1) Extract and save the page
2) Optimize it for 1.4
3) Save it again (after confirming that yes, I do indeed want to overwrite it).
I do this several times a day and it's an absolute pain in the neck, which could be avoided by implemeting any of these features:
1) A setting under Preferences> Default PDF Version for new files;
2) A PDF version selection box within the "Save As" dialog (I believe this feature has been requested by others);
3) Acrobat Pro realizing that you have extracted the page from a 1.4 file and therefore saving the new file with the same format;
4) Some sort of batch optimization option, so I only have to run the conversion once.
Frankly I'm surprised none of these features already exist.
Come on Adobe, is this really so hard to do?
Thank you.

  • Optimize my pdf file with Acrobat 10 pro

I have always been able to optimize my pdf file with Acrobat 10 pro until now.  It gives me the following error.  Runtime error, This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.  Please contact the applications support team for more information.  I just need to make it smaller as there is a cap on the senders end that I am sending it to.  I have also tried the reduce pdf and get the same reply.  [email protected]

PDF's with forms can only be optimized with a SAVE AS and the option set to "Save File For Fast Webviewing".
Be sure that option is set and just do a save as and then rename the file back to your original.

  • Set default permissions for new files?

We have a small LAN where different users often need to open and resave each others' files. No server, just a bunch of client computers on ethernet sharing an internet router.
Each time a user creates a file, that file's permissions default to read only for anyone but that user. How can I set up the default permissions so that any newly-created files default to Read & Write for "groups" and "others".
I anticipate I will have to make this change for each user on each workstation.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

If you want users to share files then have them place the file in the /Users/Shared/ folder. Files placed in that folder can be accessed by any user.

If I set the default program for viewing PDF as Acrobat XI Pro the a PDF file will open with Acrobat XI Pro, but in Outlook I will get a white screen and the information bubble "This file cannot be previewed because there is no previewer installed for it" and in Windows Explorer I get a white screen in the preview pane.

I have tried a few things but iTunes closes right after i click okay. Anyone know anything?

Look in your Home > Music folder.  There should be an iTunes folder there and it should have a number of files and folders including one called library.itl  You want to guide iTunes to that file.  If you don't see that file or folder then in your next post you will have to be very specific as to what you do see or how you have your iTunes set up because that's where it should be according to default settings.

  • How do i set a default group (not staff) for new files?

by default, new files created from within applications appear to be assigned group "staff", regardless of the folder in which they are being created.
i want new files to inherit the group of the folder in which they are being created. if i create a new file from the terminal command-line, this works. note that it also works when creating new folders from the finder and "save as" dialogue boxes.
how do i get this to work for new files saved from all applications?
    thanks.

I usually use the .NET method myself, but if I were forced to poll I would do something like this.  I use a variant to hold the list of filenames.  I would only poll the folder info, when it has been modified then do the Folder List.  Any new files are spotted when the variant attribute does not exist (Replace = FALSE), and this is added to the array.

  • Make Acrobat the default reader for pdf-files.

Since some time (probably after I installed Mavericks) pdf-files are by default opened
in Preview. To open them in Adobe Acrobat, I can right-click the pdf-file, choose Acrobat,
and indicate that Acrobat should be the default reader for pdf-files.
This works, and after logout and login, it does still work.
But after a reboot, Preview is again the default reader.
Also, if in Finder I right-click a pdf-file, and via Get Info I configure Acrobat
to be the default reader for the specific file and all other pdf-files (by clicking
Change All), this only works for the current session. After a reboot Preview again is the
    default.
How can I make Acrobat Reader the default reader for pdf-files, and make this setting
    permanent?
    Where is this setting saved?
    Regards,
    Kees.

I finally solved this, but I still don't understand how.
To begin with I have 2 hard-drives in my iMac. The OS is on the primary HD, and data are on the secondary drive. My Home directory too is on this secondary HD.
To check whether the location of the Home directory might be the problem, I copied the Home directory to the primary HD, changed the path in my profile, and did a reboot.
The next step was to configure Adobe Acrobat as the default reader for pdf-files. To my surprise,  after rebooting, Acrobat still was the default reader for pdf-files.
So it looks as if this problem has something to do with the location of the Home directory.
The original Home directory was still present on the secondary  HD,  So the next step was to change in my profile the path to the Home directory again (pointing again to the original Home directory on the second HD), do a reboot and delete the copy of the Home directory on the primary HD.
So now the situation was back to as it was before: the Home directory on the second HD.
To my surprise now Acrobat still was the default reader for pdf-files.
And I could also change the default reader to Preview, and back to Acrobat, and this setting was saved across reboots.
I'm curious to what solved this problem, and where the setting of the default pdf-reader, or more general, the default application for file types, is stored.
So I hope that someone who reads this, can shed some light on this.

Everytime I try to open my iTunes I receive the following message - The iTunes Library.itl file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the "i Tunes" folder in the "Music" folder. Please help as I'm getting very frustrated and want to throw every apple device in the trash!!!

    Found the solution.

  • Vista - how do you make iTunes the default player for audio files?

Having started using iTunes on a new Vista PC, I've found that it defaults back to Windows Media as the default audio file player every time the machine is rebooted.
But worse than that, I cannot find any option to make iTunes the default player for MP3 files - under the Vista settings, the ONLY option offered is Windows Media: there is not even a box to tick for iTunes.
Have others found this? Is there any way around this?
(I thought that Microsoft was legally precluded from making these kind of enforced settings now???)

Although I now seem to have successfully made iTunes the default player for audio files, iTunes has started putting up this message:
"The iTunes Music Library file cannot be saved. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."
A quick scan of the forum shows this problem has come up quite a few times, but I'm far from clear if there is a definitive answer/solution. I am the administrator for the computer. It sounds worrying that the Library file is not being saved - should I be worried?

napetrov, there are two varieties of UNIX behavior regarding the group of a newly created file. The first variety, which Linux uses, comes from System V UNIX — where the file is created with the group ID of the creating user. The second variety, which Mac OS X uses, comes from BSD UNIX — where the file is created with the group ID of the directory in which it is located.
In some UNIXes that come with the System V behavior by default, the BSD behavior can be applied to a particular directory by setting the directory‘s “setgid” bit. However, it is rare for a UNIX that comes with the BSD behavior by default to provide a way to allow the System V behavior for a particular user. To my knowledge, Mac OS X does not provide a way to allow the System V behavior for a particular user; thus, I’d recommend the explicit use of chgrp to set the group ID of a newly created file to that of the creating user, if that behavior is what your application needs.

-= Changing the application used to open all files of a certain kind (written with reference to OSX 10.4 but may not have changed) =-
    1) In a Finder window highlight a file of the kind you want to change the application to open that kind of file.
    2) While that file is highlighted, select File > Get Info or press command (apple or propeller icon) + i to get a file information window.
    3) In the lower part of the info window there is an "open with" menu with a list of applications.
    4) If your application is already in the box then it is the default application for opening that kind of file and you don't need to do anything more.  Close the get info window.
    5) If the application showing in the menu is not the one with which you wish to open the file then select a new application. If your application does not appear there then select the "other..." and track down the application (usually in the Applications folder at the main level of the computer).
    6) If you wish to change all files of this type to open with this application in future, make sure the "change all" button is selected.
    7) Close the get info window.

  • I need help every time my iTunes library updates i get this error messege: The iTunes.itl file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the "iTunes" folder in the "Music" folder. but the file should be there.

Every time I have to upgrade iTunes it gives me this messege:'The default location for this file is in the "iTunes" folder in the "Music" folder.' the file should be there but I don't understand why it does this every time Apple upgrades the Itunes library. Its on the computer somewhere but it only affects this login on my computer (meaning on this Windows Account). Why does my iTunes do this? Then I have to spend hours placing all my libraries back together and all my music back into the library. Which usually takes me a few days to sort all out. What is wrong with my iTunes? The iTunes folder is a folder in my Music folder where I store the iTunes music/files/libraries at on my computer so I can have all of the iTunes files in one place on my computer.

I have a Windows 7 operating system my computer runs from.
