Default tablespace problem

I created a new user. I wanted to attach this user to a default tablespace. After I gave the command, "ALTER USER DEFAULT TABLESPACE rent QUOTA UNLIMITED ON rent;", the Oracle SQl Developer gave a command succeeded message. But when I tried to access a table within that tablespace, I couldn't. I was only able to access the table in the tablespace using the full qualification.
1) SELECT * FROM rent; -- failed
2) SELECT * FROM halibut.rent; -- succeeded
1) should work, since I attached the default tablespace to that user. How to overcome this problem?
I use Oracle SQL Developer version 1.1.2.25 and Oracle 10g Standard Edition.

I assume that you have given quota to that user using sysdba user only.
1) SELECT * FROM rent; -- failed
2) SELECT * FROM halibut.rent; -- succeeded
1 one has to fail because rent table exist in halibut schema.Giving quota unlimited doesn't mean you can access everything in that tbs owned by other user also.It just allow to use all space on that tbs. This is basic of oracle DBA dear.

  • BC4J temporary tables - default tablespace

    I have database Oracle database 9i. I have created database user by CREATE USER "DBUSER" PROFILE "DEFAULT" IDENTIFIED BY "dbuser" DEFAULT TABLESPACE "MYTABLESPACE" TEMPORARY TABLESPACE "TEMP" ACCOUNT UNLOCK;
So I expect all tables are created inside ORDBS tablespace. They do - but only my application tables. BC4J temporary tables (PCOLL_CONTROL, ...) are created inside "USERS" tablespace, not MYTABLESPACE nor TEMP.
Why? I don't want they are created inside users but don't know how to change it...
    Any idea?
Thank you very much for any comment

    PS. I use JDeveloper 9.0.3.4

    Hi Steve/Nick,
I am facing a similar kind of problem in oracle 9iAS(90220). A few days back there was a lot of user activity in one of the application modules and 7 PS_<app.module.name(s)> tables were created with around 7GB of size which eventually filled up the entire tablespace(100%). I spoke to the developers about the attributes that need to be set for Row spill over feature discussed in this forum but they said after lots of testing they have set those values and cannot be changed.
Could you please suggest me how can I ensure that, next time any application module specific PS_ tables will get created I can route them to different tablespace based on the module name. (I donot want to move them after they are created, to a different tablespace) Please let me know asap so that I can implement it and avert any future problems.
    Thanks & regards,

  • Import tablespace problem

    Dear all,
I've encountered a problem during importing schema.
The case is that I migrated a schema from SQL server by OMWB to a tablespace called ts1 in Oracle 9i. When I export this schema and then import to another tablespace called ts2, some tables cannot be created and prompt me warning said "cannot create table xxx, table space ts1 does not exist. This problem only exists on some tables, but the rest are fine.
This problem makes me cannot import this schema to different tablespace. Could anyone help me by giving some advise.
    Thank you very much

When you are importing, it definately seeks for the default tablespace of the object. The workaround, either you create the same tablespace or do the following to the user where you are importing.
remove unlimited tablespace previlege from the user.
grant unlimited quota on its default tablespace to the user.
start your import with ignore=y parameter.

  • Moving tables to a new default tablespace

I want to move all the tables owned by a user (OUTLN) to a new tablespace.
I know that if I make an export file of that schema and then I make an import after deleting the tables and changing the default tablespace of that schema I should solve the problem (as suggested from documentation), but it isn't so.
The tablespace of the tables after the import remains the same.
    Why?
    Thank you

I want to move all the tables owned by a user (OUTLN) to a new tablespace.
I know that if I make an export file of that schema and then I make an import after deleting the tables and changing the default tablespace of that schema I should solve the problem (as suggested from documentation), but it isn't so.
The tablespace of the tables after the import remains the same.
Why? If you are concerned about importing large number of tables to a different tablespace, you can do it in this way. After exporting the tables, import them to a .sql file. In other words, tables does not get imported by this method to the database but the "create table" script is generated for the tables. Then you can edit this .sql file using any text editor, replace all the tablespace names with the tablespace name you want. Then run the script. Remember to remove the "Rem" comment words. The following syntax will help you to do this.
    c:\>imp80 scott/tiger file=c:\tabledump.dmp indexfile=c:\tablecreate.sql full=y
Here, though we say "indexfile", it generates full create table script.
In order to import the data, re-run the import without indexfile option and with ignore=y option.
    Hope this will help.

    R. Magesh.

  • Glitches in address fill-ins with nicknames; default font problem; plus other glitches in Thunderbird 31.3.0 and 31.4.0; can I roll back to an earlier version?

I am unhappy with the recent upgrade to Thunderbird 31.3.0 and now 31.4.0. My bottom line question is whether I can roll back to the previous version, which was working well for me.
The problems I have encountered include:
    1. I used to be able to enter a single letter in many cases in the address field, and the autocomplete would fill in the entry that I always use with that single letter. That function has been lost, as has auto fill-in based on the nicknames I have entered in my Address Book. I see there is another thread on this problem (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1036962), but no satisfactory answer so far. Entering a single letter now pulls up completely unrelated address entries that may not even have that letter as part of the name, address or nickname for that unrelated address. I have created new nicknames to try to adapt to this problem, but even these new nicknames no longer work with the 31.4.0 upgrade yesterday, forcing me to create yet more complex and hard-to-remember nicknames to pull up my frequent addressees. This is all very frustrating to me, as I depend on speed and ease when creating messages.
    2. Also, I used to be able to enter a single letter in the address field and then use the mouse to click on the "To:" symbol to the left of the next address line to change the next entry to "Cc:"; doing so would then cause the complete address to fill in in the "To:" address field, and make the next field ready for an entry. That no longer works. If I use that technique, the shortcut that I entered in the first field gets included along with the address (if I'm lucky enough to have the address itself selected now, given the problems I've mentioned above). I now have to press "Enter" in order to get the address in the first field to "take" correctly, and then have to click on the "To:" symbol for the next line as a separate action. Just another inconvenience with the new version.
    3. While still on the subject of addresses, personally I see no reason why the address and subject fields should now be colored blue by default rather than appearing as blank, white fields. I far prefer the old look. And I suspect that changing from the blue color to a nice, clean, white field takes time and computer resources that slow things down.
    4. The default font (Times in my case) no longer "takes" when replying to or forwarding messages. I've checked Tools/Options/Composition, and Times is still shown as my default font. However, when I start to type (in a reply with the original message quoted or in a forwarded message), the result is "Variable Width". In order to get Times, I need to highlight the block of text after typing, including the lead-in to the quoted message or the header of the forwarded message, and select "Times" when "(mixed)" shows up. This is a big pain; I often forget to do so and end up having to edit the Unsent Message (which I check before sending) as New and correct the font.
    5. A minor problem: I rely on the reminder to attach a message which shows up when an "attachment-related" word is entered in the body of the message. It has been a wonderful feature of Thunderbird that has prevented me on many occasions from sending off messages without the attachments. However, in the new versions, even if I have indeed added the attachment, a pop-up comes up on sending the message saying there has been no attachment and asking if I want to add one. It's easy enough to just click "No", but it's yet one more unnecessary and distracting step that this new version is requiring of the user.
I'm really sad to see these various changes/glitches. I love Thunderbird and it bothers me deeply to find myself mired in so many new problems that slow down my work. I would be grateful for any suggestions and advice, and, particularly, for any information as whether I can roll back to the version prior to 31.3.0 that was working well for me.

Thank you, Zenos. I tried rolling back to v31.2.0, since I had not encountered problems prior to December. However, that didn't help. So I followed your valuable suggestion to revert to v24.6; that seems to have done the trick.
I would like to mark this problem as "Solved" -- the rollback seems to have worked. However, since my original post was a complex mix of things, before I do that, should I post the individual problem sets that I had noted (address fields/nicknames problems -- numbers 1-3; default font problem -- number 4; attachment reminder problem -- number 5) as separate issues which have not been solved?
Do you know if these various issues are being worked on? I'm glad to have the temporary fix of rolling back to an earlier version, but I'd like to get back on the current update schedule at some point if and when these problems have been corrected.
    Thank you again!

  • Use of DEFAULT tablespace while re-enabling constraint

    Using 8.1.7.2.
While trying to re-enable a constraint on a table, we hit a ORA-01630. According to the error message, Oracle was trying to use the DEFAULT tablespace (USERS) instead of the TEMPORARY tablespace (TEMP) to do the work.
Why would Oracle use a tablespace other than TEMP to do work that needed temporary space?
    [email protected]

What is the 'temporary_tablespace' value when you query user_users as this user?
Oracle will use the tablespace that is specified as the users TEMPORARY_TABLESPACE for all sorts. If that tablespace does not exists, it uses SYSTEM.

Can I limit a user to create objects only on his own default tablespace ?
alter user quota 0M on < all other tablespaces except user's default> ?

    Hi,
I have really no idea why oracle is behaving like this. How can you create a table without a quota.
    1) Write here the oracle version for your database software
    2) Can you try connecting to the database with same user id but from a remote client using TNS method instead of logging in locally, and they try creating the table.
    3) Can you give only CREATE SESSION privilege (not create table) and then perform the same task again.
PS: Please paster your code/output enclosed withing code tag. Write **, then your code/output and then again *{code*

What prevents you from doing this yourself and seeing for yourself what the behavior is?   (How do you think the 'gurus' got to be 'gurus'?)
If, after conducting your own test, you see behavior you don't understand, I'm sure someone here will help explain the behavior you observe vs the behavior you expected.

That's right. Additionally, you can use assistant to perform this task. In the near future you may want to have the SQL Reference handy: http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/toc.htm

  • Table created by datapump imp/exp, change default tablespace?

Is there a way, without changing the users default tablespace, to force the table created by data pump import or export to go to a different tablespace than the users default? Our policy is that users must declare the tablespace they want an object created in, therefore the users tablespace is very small (6M), so if they accidently created an object in this TS it would fail. When we run expdp, this default tablespace fills up and export fails. I can't find a parameter in the documentation on giving an alternative tablespace for this table.

When you run expdp, it creates a table under the user you logged in as. This table is used to keep track of the datapump process. I am looking for a way to direct datapump to create this table in a specific tablespace instead of the users default.

  • Default printer problems with adobe 10.1.2

I was having problems printing PDFs since upgrading to 10.1.2.  After reading and trying many recommendations, I happened to notice that my default printer(I have only one printer) was listed twice on the print window.  The first (default) printer is spelled "HP PSC 2350 series" (upper case 'PSC')  The second is "HP psc 2350 series" (lower case 'psc') .  The printer is named 'HP psc 2350 series' in my printers and devices, and if I select this printer, the page will print perfectly.  Now that I have solved my printing issue,  I would like to change the default setting on the adobe print window to come up as the active link, so I don't have to continue to select a different printer everytime I wish to print a document.  The printer by the lower case "psc" name is set as the default printer in printers and devices, and I cannot figure out why it doesn't come up as the default printer on the adobe reader print window.  I also cannot figure out how to change the default in the print window.   An added interesting fact is that I get no response in the print window when I try to select "preferences' or 'advanced' for the upper case 'PSC' printer.
My computer runs in Windows 7 (64-bit).  The printer is HP psc 2355xi all-in-one.  Any suggestions are much appreciated

I have not been able to select a different default printer for Adobe,  but I can print if I manually select the correct link everytime.

I am having the same issue. The correct printer is selected as the default printer on the control panel and there is no driver with the lowercase convention. However, the first printer option that appears is the lowercase convention. Is there any way to select a default printer for specifically for Adobe, as opossed to the PC itself?
